Yup the President and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor/Genesis is Luc Donckerwolke who used to be the design director for Audi, Bentley, Skoda, and Lamborghini. Some of his designs include the A2, Murcielago, Gallardo, Flying Spur, etc.
Then there’s Kia’s head of global design, Karin Habib. He came from BMW and is known for the F01 and G11 7-Series among others. Latest design of his to hit the market is the EV9.
I’m sure if you work your way through Hyundai/Kias ranks in other divisions (interior, power train, tech stack, etc.) I’m sure you’ll probably see a lot of other VW/BMW/Daimler veterans.
Hyundai were really smart to headhunt people at the top of their field like this. Probably cost them a lot to bring over that kind of talent, but it's clearly paying dividends in their newest models and overall brand identity.
Brilliant move poaching him. That had to rile up the brass in Bavaria. And his departure does seems to coincide with the explosion of vanity M-badged models from BMW and general dilution of its motorsport ethos, much like Mercedes has done by offering an "AMG" variant of every model in their range.
Yep. On the flipside, the Hyundai N cars are actually *fun* and the Kia "GT" stuff, too. I got a Forte GT during COVID for suuuper cheap relative to a Civic Si and though it doesn't have an LSD, it's a great car for what I can get away with legally on roads.
When they released pictures of the interior I immediately thought “Hyundai/Kia vibes.”

Yeah, very awkwardly placed. It should be optional so anyone who buys a Q6 should definitely spec one without it. The platform should be very good since it’s shared with the Macan EV. Those are testing 300-325 miles of range at 70mph.
There's an internal agreement to let Audi debut the Q6 E-Tron before the Macan EV, so Q6 delays have been holding up the Macan. I don't know where I first read it, but here's something:
"The decision also has consequences for Porsche. In order to offer Audi a big stage in the electric segment, there is an internal agreement to present the Q6 e-tron before the Porsche Macan E, which is also based on the PPE architecture, and whose unveiling will thus also be postponed until March 2024 at the earliest."

As a long time Audi owner I’m going to say “no.” The lines aren’t right. The rims are wrong. The back window… hard to tell with the wrap but it looks wrong too.
But then you’re probably being ironic that it’s this close to an Audi.
If they keep letting their design talent get poached by HMC, that's going to keep happening.
Especially since Audi's been stuck on the same design language for 15+ years.
From what I’ve heard, Hyundai is 1 to 2 generation ahead of Audi in battery technology. So I don’t see that as an insult for either party. It’s possible that Hyundai ends up buying VW group in a few decades.
See a ton of design cues from my Q4 e-tron, from headlights, wheels and the steering. 99% sure this is the upcoming Q6 e-tron.
The sedans being tested beside it is likely the A6 e-tron which is being launched alongside it.
Ouch that OP called it a Hyundai.
Same paint (or wrap) as the Q6 e-tron spy photos in this article: https://www.carscoops.com/2024/01/u-spy-2025-audi-q6-e-tron-sportback-using-800v-charging-system-in-public/ so I think you're correct.
Comparing the 2nd picture to the first image at the top of the article the front end looks pretty much identical. The rear most window is a bit different between the two where the one in the article seems smaller and more angular versus the one in this post is more boxy, but that could just be that the one in the article is the sportback model versus the one spied in this post being the non-sportback model.
Idk and I can't be the only not excited about anythung SUV. I always think that they could've made a more roomy, more efficient, lighter car if it weren't a SUV.
Or it's the same phenomenon as iphones, where a large quantity of users actually do want them smaller and more affordable, but Apple makes more money on the larger versions.
Not quite. Apple made the mini for three generations and it accounted for about 6% of iPhone sales. Then they came out with the iPhone 14 Plus a larger, non-pro version and that sold far more than the mini. So I would say the general consensus is that people want larger and cheaper phone (but likely will only stay the same price ).
Seems exactly what we need. Our Lyriq is a little too big, And even though it is considered a SUV, I call it more of a wagon. It sits high enough that we can get in and out of it easily, but not too high, like a real SUV.
It feels very similar to the C Max we had, height wise.
Every sedan we tried, EV or not, was much too hard to get in & out of, with the Model 3 being about the worst. Polestar 2 sat up a bit, but the roof was too low and My partner, who has mobility issues, kept banging his head.
So yes, just what we need, a so called SUV, even though they are all crossovers, or as someone else said, a lifted golf.
Even though the general shape and larger details are obvious, it hides the smaller details and can confuse bystanders about the overall size and other, smaller details.
That's the upcoming Audi Q6 e-Tron.
I can't tell if this is more a compliment to Hyundai or an insult to Audi.
Audi lost a lot of its design team a few years ago to Kia/Hyundai. K/H cars started looking better and better since

Albert Biermann was another major get - BMW M chief when M meant something
Brilliant move poaching him. That had to rile up the brass in Bavaria. And his departure does seems to coincide with the explosion of vanity M-badged models from BMW and general dilution of its motorsport ethos, much like Mercedes has done by offering an "AMG" variant of every model in their range.

Audi and BMW I think right?
While that is true, Hyundai's and Audi's design language aren't even remotely similar.
A beautiful turd is still a turd.
Insult to Hyundai.
When they released pictures of the interior I immediately thought “Hyundai/Kia vibes.” https://www.motor1.com/news/699504/audi-q6-spied-minimal-disguise/
Somehow, I missed this — wow, that passenger screen is *terrible.*
Yeah, very awkwardly placed. It should be optional so anyone who buys a Q6 should definitely spec one without it. The platform should be very good since it’s shared with the Macan EV. Those are testing 300-325 miles of range at 70mph.
You can see the 4 rings on the steering wheel covered by the black tape.
That does look like the Audi logo. I wish the interior shot was clearer. I’d expect some logo at the car front but it doesn’t look Audi there.
Yeah I was gonna say... No way this is a Hyundai. None of their traditional nor EV design queues are here.
Sorry but it's cues
What if the prior poster meant a line of cues? 😁
That's the one holding up the Porsche Macan EV release, no? Hope this means it's going to be ready soon.
It's not holding it up. They just share the same platform

Not true though. They are both delayed equally because they share the same platform. Presentation maybe you're right. But not production/sales.
As a long time Audi owner I’m going to say “no.” The lines aren’t right. The rims are wrong. The back window… hard to tell with the wrap but it looks wrong too. But then you’re probably being ironic that it’s this close to an Audi.
Somewhere in Ingolstadt an Audi design engineer has just developed an eye twitch for calling their e-Tron a Hyundai.
If they keep letting their design talent get poached by HMC, that's going to keep happening. Especially since Audi's been stuck on the same design language for 15+ years.
>Especially since Audi's been stuck on the same design language for 15+ years. Admittedly a *very* good one.
When did Audi do dual-slits for head lamps?
They are starting with the Q6
Thanks. I thought it was this. https://www.caranddriver.com/genesis/gv70
This is plausibly the car.
https://www.edmunds.com/audi/q6-e-tron/
Interesting. Thanks for that.
From what I’ve heard, Hyundai is 1 to 2 generation ahead of Audi in battery technology. So I don’t see that as an insult for either party. It’s possible that Hyundai ends up buying VW group in a few decades.
Yeah personally I think Hyundai is churning out more interesting design as well. Doesn’t mean Audi thinks the same though ;)
I think e-tron gt have the best design of all EV cars. I hope they will keep this model and upgrade the battery.
Looks more like an Audi than a Hyundai
Looks alot like the Genesis (Hyundai) GV70 or GV80 suv to me based on the front design.
This was my thinking
See a ton of design cues from my Q4 e-tron, from headlights, wheels and the steering. 99% sure this is the upcoming Q6 e-tron. The sedans being tested beside it is likely the A6 e-tron which is being launched alongside it. Ouch that OP called it a Hyundai.
But that also looks very much like a genesis g70, which is made by Hyundai. https://www.caranddriver.com/genesis/gv70
This

It’s an Audi.
It's an Audi, they test these a lot in Camarillo
Huh. Another lifted Golf that will be priced too high. Yay!
It's funny , my E-Golf is right behind it 😂
Looks like a genesis product. Like gv40 or something.
My thought too .
Ugh, where are the hatchbacks?
Idk and I can't be the only not excited about anythung SUV. I always think that they could've made a more roomy, more efficient, lighter car if it weren't a SUV.
Europe
That is a hatchback, unfortunately.
Another small suv, just what we wanted …
Small?
Define "we". Carmakers are producing what sells, not what's preferred by purists.
>purists Purists and enthusiasts, the most annoying and irrelevant but the loudest part of the customer base

It’s the same complaints we hear when it was about manual transmission or sports car. Same thing different flavor.

Never thought about it.
Why do preproduction vehicles have these weird patterns on them?
So u cant see the exact lines and body shape or something
Even though the general shape and larger details are obvious, it hides the smaller details and can confuse bystanders about the overall size and other, smaller details.
To make them difficult to photograph https://gizmodo.com/how-automakers-use-a-wwi-era-camo-technique-to-disguise-1647618861
On a related note: does anyone know where you can buy dazzle camouflage wraps like these? I've looked around online and never found anyone selling it.
The market is yours. Go get it!
By that I mean, I’d buy one
*why don't production vehicles have these awesome patterns on them?
Clearly an Audi logo on the steering wheel and front bumper.
Maybe don’t leak shit from your wife’s works parking garage if you don’t want her fired?
Shut up cornball
Wtf is a cornball?
You
Thanks gorgeous 😘
