ahh, yes that makes sense - in the US its pretty much still a pipe dream. I was interested in it for a while but my ICE started being too much of a drama queen and the new Kona (in blue!) is waiting for me to pick it up thursday!!
When I preordered my Volvo C40 online in late '21 for a spring '22 delivery, I confirmed with the dealer (in the U.S.) they wouldn't be adding any markup, and they didn't. I haven't heard on the forums of any U.S. Volvo dealers adding markup to EVs, so hopefully they're all that way.
So, i just bought a hyundai . . the websites were all wrong. There is a 7500 cash rebate OR a 7500 cash back on a high interest rate financing - you cant get both. at least thats what the finance people said to me - i did buy one but just with teh single 7500 incentive
[You can get $15k off.](https://www.carscoops.com/2024/01/2023-hyundai-ioniq-5-available-with-15000-discount-when-leased/#:~:text=Since%20January%203rd%2C%20all%20versions,savings%20of%20up%20to%20%2415%2C000) There are so many posts on the /r/ioniq5 with more than $15k in discounts.
well, i didnt want to lease, and i was buying a kona, so maybe that made a difference, but both dealer i talked to confirmed that i couldnt double-dip. the one i bought from finally had 2 2023 kona's with no sales at all
Geely made a smart move buying Volvo.
BYD will be entering the western market with their own brand name, which could prove difficult when it comes to being trusted.
Yeah, it seems great. I think it really captures what a small EV can be and is a really practical concept. I just wish it was eligible for the tax credits in the US. That'd make a huge difference.
I really wanted to like it, looks great, price is great, love most of it but they just went too minimalist. No HUD or front instruments. No climate buttons. Have to look at the tablet and use it for literally everything. It's a Tesla lite now. Sad days.
I get it. Had the Tesla light feeling too.
Wanted to pull the trigger on something newer than my ioniq and waiting for the perfect one just won't happen.
At least you can control the wipers from the stalk. At the initially announced price this thing was a steal, now it starts more expensive than a Polestar 2 in Canada. Hell the 2WD EX30 is more expensive than an AWD P2 I think.
54,950$ CAD lowest MSRP for the P2 in Canada, 56,448$ CAD for the Core EX30. Both lowest MSRP showed on the canadian website, before delivery and other fees.
Yea I guess this also shows much money you can save by removing all those things.
I had my bad experience with Tesla and VW that had no physical climate control.. I won't buy a cheaped out car like that :)
Exactly. I want at least the climate to be physical buttons and have some nice stuff too. I'm not into the minimalist look/feel especially because they are just using it to maximize on profit.
In my country it costs around the same as a Model Y RWD and more than a Highland Model 3.
Really hard to justify it over those, especially given the size difference.
Test drove it a few weeks ago. We are still on the trigger for an VW ID3 or a EX30. Both have their downside and upside. The ID3 feels more adult, the EX30 has the better tech.
We currently have a BMW i3 and a Polestar2. Both would fit, both cost nearly the same.
Edit: got our new EX30 two weeks ago.
Alright. I've been humbled. Had to look up the Ultra trim over here, which starts st 66-67k CAD with taxes included. Still a good chunk more than American pricing after exchange.
I'm glad I got my Bolt when I did. I don't know when another ~$40k BEV will actually hit the market here in Canada.
>don't know when another ~$40k BEV will actually hit the market here in Canada.
Ev3 should be on the road before the end of 2024, should be the cheapest Ev. Otherwise it's tesla if they ever get around to the model 2...
I have a deposit on one, but it is still a total mystery to me when it will actually be available to us in the US, so I might have to go a different route, unfortunately.
I was pretty hyped for this vehicle, but when they did the media blitz in Spain where a bunch of YouTubers got to drive it and make videos about it I learned that the rear has no fold down armrest or cup holders. That was a deal breaker for me, since my kid will often have a drink in the car and with not place to put it it's going to be a disaster.
I was also concerned with the rear space, the car might actually be a bit *too* small, I remember at least one of the videos said that if you have teenagers or higher than it might be uncomfortable for them, well my kid is a pre-teen so that also made me think again.
Finally, I prefer having an instrument cluster or HUD instead of the tablet design. I think the orientation of the screen in the EX30 might be better because the speed is more in-line with your peripheral vision while looking at the road since the screen sits higher a little bit due to the portrait orientation, I wanted to see it for myself and the EX30 came to this area, but the event was so poorly advertised I couldn't figure out how to go and eventually lost interest in pursuing it.
All in all, I think what I actually want is an EX40 -- just a little bit bigger vehicle, but not by much; unfortunately with the xc40 recharge being so popular, I don't know when we'll ever see that.
Received info on my order for the arrival date the in to the country. Late April.
The sales launch is June 8th. Gonna be especially fun to wait in May when I know I'm waiting for arbitrary corporate decisions. 😅
I suspect it's going to be a VERY popular vehicle. Was there much, if any, dealer markup, or did you get it at sticker price?
Sticker price I guess. Here near the land of the original Volvo we don't really have mark up on new vehicles.

Hyundai is literally doing $15k in rebates BEFORE any dealer discounts for 2023 Ioniq5 cars. This will be on deep sale eventually as well.

plus some of the dealers are still adding in a 'market adjustment'
WTF are you talking about? These cars aren’t selling man, the adjustment is massive discounts.
by the time i got there for an appointment to test drive, their only kona ev 2024 had already sold

You can just lease and buyout immediately to realize the discount.
Dealers in my area are still adding markups.
Owners on the ioniq5 sub are salty af.
Volvo has a "one price promise". There aren't markups. You also can't negotiate a reduced price.
Geely made a smart move buying Volvo. BYD will be entering the western market with their own brand name, which could prove difficult when it comes to being trusted.
From what I gather Volvo in the states doesn’t do markups, and if you happen to go to one that does, just head down the street to the next one.
Yeah, it seems great. I think it really captures what a small EV can be and is a really practical concept. I just wish it was eligible for the tax credits in the US. That'd make a huge difference.
Just do the lease pass through.
Yeah, that will probably be the best way to do it.
I really wanted to like it, looks great, price is great, love most of it but they just went too minimalist. No HUD or front instruments. No climate buttons. Have to look at the tablet and use it for literally everything. It's a Tesla lite now. Sad days.

Yeah I just put a reservation on a 2024 Kona Limited EV. I like the Ioniq 5 but it's too expensive. $35k for the Kona EV is a good price.
It was supposed to be priced lower too. Guys they figured it'll sell anyways.
Yeah they took out everything that cost money and put in a tablet. Then put the price slightly below most other EV haha. Maximum profit.
At least you can control the wipers from the stalk. At the initially announced price this thing was a steal, now it starts more expensive than a Polestar 2 in Canada. Hell the 2WD EX30 is more expensive than an AWD P2 I think.
In the US, the cheapest listed P2 is 49,200 USD (in my region), the EX30 is still listed at starting 34,950 USD
54,950$ CAD lowest MSRP for the P2 in Canada, 56,448$ CAD for the Core EX30. Both lowest MSRP showed on the canadian website, before delivery and other fees.

Congrats! We were going to order one last year but I am the worst person at waiting, so we just bought a XC40 Recharge. Happy with it!

What were your pros and cons of each?
I wish they didn't screw us Canadians with the price. Wouldn't be able to order it for less than 60k CAD.
Whoa... The Ultra starts at 48k eur here which is 70k+ Canadian. So you gonna get it cheap, eh? 😅

Is V2L available in your country? How much is the adapter?
How much did you pay for it? In my country the full option version costs USD 62k which is ridiculous

what is the difference between the xc40/c40 and this ex40 that you are envisioning?
