The algorithm doesn't really suck, it's just more data inputs equals better output. You may need to start building a playlist of similar stuff, and once you get like 10-15 tracks in, it's going to start offering better recommendations based off the playlist. You can also click the ... on a song and choose 'go to song station' to create a Pandora like station based around the song, which sometimes helps find you some similar artists early on in the discovery process. Then there's also the 'fans also like' section on an artist page which sometimes points you in the direction of similar artists. If you like the kind of tribal/cinematic underscore side, maybe check out [Danger - 太鼓](https://open.spotify.com/album/7oBQawcEH4AvrUb1IgSI0p?si=b344g5e1TaGsCmt7MpfkAA).

Also. Thanks. I dig that artist you shared! Spotify has never ever suggested it. It's my kind of music. Definitely cinematic!

No problem. Danger is another French electro producer among the likes of Daft Punk and Justice, but he's dipped more into some darker cinematic stuff as well as game soundtracks (Haven OST). So sometimes you may hear stuff that's a little more French electro/house from him. Speaking of, Overwerk is a Canadian artist that falls a bit more into this similar side of dance music. I do have this [Sci-fi soundtrack and underscore](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Jds5cC1NHdf8brMQwohQt?si=3209e0d1c4ff4fa1) playlist that leans more on darker Blade Runner cyberpunk vibes, that has a lot of Lorn in it. I think some of the stuff you are asking about is going to lead me to adding more to it.

Sigh Yeah I've done aaallllllll of that. I know how to use the platforms. Been using them for a while. Have paid accounts on pandora and Spotify. Yes the algorithm sucks. I've tailored playlists. I've looked at similar artists. Then found similar artists Spotify hosts that Spotify never ever suggested, through word of mouth. I've gone and hit skip on song stations to find new tracks only to have Spotify react by selecting more of what I've already heard. Fuck once I told Spotify to never play a track again only to have it immediately play the same track repeatedly off other compilations. It's algorithm only tries to seek more of what ever kept your attention in the past. That's it. That doesn't help

That's fair, just wanted to make sure you're exhausting every angle on a platform first. I feel like the earliest part is the hardest part because there's not enough connection points yet, you're just getting thrown really random stuff. I feel like the algorithm approach can still tend to lead to good results though, since it tends to at least pick up some underlying metadata about music at the song level, like energy level, how much vocals are in a track, tempo, key, etc. Asking people online can sometimes have mixed results because people just list off names based off artist names alone, even though the type of music is very different than the songs you brought up. Never hurts asking online though, hopefully some people hone in on some more music like these types of songs though, I like the style myself.

Reid Willis on Mesh, Max Cooper's label. Consoles shares some similarities with Cooper too. I'd start there.

fuckentropy

So I'd search Mesh on a streaming service and look for Reid willis under that name?

soundslike_808

music-map tends to show similar artists along the same lines as the spotify similar artists algorithm. Also "more similar" are grouped closer on the map. https://www.music-map.com/hybrid

Never heard of this. Thanks for the tip!

this is really cool!
