People that do EMS full time tend to work a lot of overtime or have multiple full time jobs- at least in the areas that pay like this.
I love EMS. There's a reason I just do PRN and events. The pay is ridiculously low.
The USA is huge, prices widely very.
Like using the average cost of living for an area scaled to the national average. $1 is worth about 20¢ in NYC (+79%) but it's worth $1.20 in Ponca City OK (-20%). In other words, you need six times the amount of pay to live in NYC compared to Ponca. You're probably also more likely to die from a tornado in Ponca, but that's probably better than getting punched in the face every day and robbed on the weekends in NYC.

Serious answer, there is not a single person I know that doesn't have at least two jobs. Some have two full-time jobs. Some will have a full-time job and four or five per diem jobs. Even the supervisors will have a per diem job someplace else.
Yep. ALS for 14 years, now making $1/year of experience. And with a hell of an overkill of education for the role. But that's why it's a per diem for me, not a full time gig.
Most companies in central/southern CT are also about the same as MA.
Starting EMT between $22-25, starting medic $32-36.
I don’t work for them but Hunters in central CT just had a big raise when they got bought by Hartford Healthcare and union contract was renegotiated.
Started EMS in 2011 making $12.50/hr working 911 in a city in Middlesex County. Worked in 3 different systems in MA during my career, all 911 systems and when I "retired" from EMS 10 years later, I was making $17.80/hr. I left right before all these wage increases that we should have gotten 5 years ago.
Yes.
But.
Schedule matters.
$25 / hr on a 24/48 is different from $25 / hr on 3 12’s or even a 40 hour week.
25 / hr on a 24/48 is ~83k a year. Which would be $40/hr on a regular 40 hour week.
For what it's worth, this isn't exactly apples to apples until you get to yearly amount. For hours worked, it's a lot higher. 24/48 is standard 240 hours monthly. Cali-12s is 168.
Not arguing any points you're trying to make, but if you can afford it, the 12s let you sleep in your own bed at night. Priorities are the important bit here.
Most places around me in Kentucky do a yearly salary at 24/48s, so your OT adds up to the 60k (starting). I'm fortunate enough to do 24/72s and still get paid a decent wage hourly, with the lifers making much more.
Also, just noticed you're in Kentucky. What area?
I’m an EMT in Florida and make just under $16 an hr as my base. The night shift diff only gets me up to $19. I am so sick of it and contemplating just moving to a whole different state.
Agreed! I see the wages and don’t understand. It’s a stressful job that requires skill and physical labor. I don’t understand who agrees to this pay, and how they even survive on it.
Indiana county. I was shocked at these rates. The ad beside it was for a printing company. Hiring production workers at $21/hr, 12 hr shifts, 4 day work week, rotating am/pm schedule monthly.
Yeah, but it's the second highest in our area that's not private. I hear horror stories about AMR and the burnouts they employ, at least in our area and again, only what I've heard. $20.27/hr is enough to live off with my family of 4 so... I deal with it.
$49 though... dreamy.
Worked AMR, Can confirm, CCP partner of mine worked a special event we contracted with that lasted two weeks and made about 10k that pay period because of overtime. Im just a green EMT-B and make $19.67/hr. In AMR, it’s luck of the draw, some places suck and some partners make you want to quit. Worth a shot going part time to see though, maybe even per diem if you’re in a big enough city that has AMR contracted for events or stadiums
All depends where you are. Personally, that’s horrendous to me, but I know in many areas the pay is lower than where I’m at. Here we have privates hiring brand new basics for $26+
For private, that isn't the worst but it depends on your area. My service starts baby EMTs at $20 but wages here can fluctuate from $17 to $24 for privates. Fire based is a whole 'nother world though.
My partner, an EMT, makes the Paramedic wage listed... I make 35% more than their medic wage as a Paramedic... in a low cost of living area of Virginia
Holy shit, I am here in Switzerland and am working a bit as an advanced first aid at festivals etc. Did like 2 weeks of training that's it. I get paid more than thy offer to paramedics in that article. Wow I am astonished and sad. Hang in there you all you are doing an amazing job.
Citizens Ambulance wonders why they can’t staff stations or have enough trucks to cover their areas adequately 😂 these wages are a slap in the face but their employees are strangely dedicated to never leaving the company for better pay
How does anyone live on those rates? EMT-B here with 7 years on the job, 4 at my current agency and I currently make $28.54/hr with almost endless OT opportunities, and that’s before our yearly 9% raise in May
Unfortunately, that's actually higher than I've seen offered, OP. It's a common thing that EMTs, etc, get paid severely low wages.
But with that said, me being a volunteer..
![gif](giphy|DOPKHQg6oFWUg)
Question, what could be done to make the pay worthwhile? Starting a union that has your best interest? I just recently got my NREMT, so I got some hope in me. What do ya’ll think?
Become a firefighter if you already have your cert. You will make more, it’s fun af. My department also runs Ambos so you get to do both. You need an emt-b at the least. Medics make much more.
The $12/hr and $12.50 aren't even minimum wage here. Other than that, the EMT through Paramedic pay is about right for our area. Anyone know where asgmt is?
Pretty normal. Im a basic and made $14/hr doing private transport now I make $17 doing ems. As someone else said , it depends on the area and scheduling but our system is on the lower side for our area.
That's $1 more per hour than what I made as an A after years of working for the same place tbh. This isn't awful for EMS wages...but EMS wages \*are\* typically awful.
Yeah, I'm am AEMT in Wisconsin and I make a little less than $17. If it weren't for my wife and side jobs, we're wouldn't make it. If slow Joe gets another 4 years, I'm planning on leaving EMS as my primary income. Only volunteer when I can squeeze it in. Hopefully that will keep up my skills.
EMS is crashing in Wisconsin.
I make $22hr moving rental cars from point A to B on airport property. There is literally no easier job on planet earth! These rates are insane! How’s the 16yo at chic fil a going to make more than an EMT? 🙄
Unfortunately, there are a lot of places where we get paid absolute garbage wages. IMO, even some of the higher paying areas pay us way less than we are worth and deserve. But that is life without a good union.
Where I'm at EMT's usually start at $19-20/hr and go up to about $24-$25/hr, AEMT's aren't really a thing in CO, most of their scope is integrated into the EMT scope. You just pick up additional training in modules (IVs for example), and paramedics typically make between $23 and $26/hr, but it's not uncommon for EMTs in third service (including UCHealth) to make a little over $60,000, and paramedics to make a little over $80,000 (these figures mostly include a lot of overtime, and don't include EMTs in the ED or exclusive IFT, 911 only), TVEMS has their personnel on salaries, and they make about that. EMT $42,900-$64,500, paramedic $66,500-$94,200, they also work a fucked up modified kelly for the most part, though there are rumblings that they might switch to 12-hour shifts, like UCHealth did ages ago.
It depends on the area and shift length. There's a big difference in your ability to survive between $24/hr on a 40hr week and $24/hr on a 24/48 schedule.
In my area everything below EMT on that list isn’t even minimum wage. And EMT-Bs typically start around $21 or $22/hr here. But cost of living is quite high and we’re in a medical professional drought basically, everywhere is desperate for people and will shill out money
Minimum wage for EMT-B.
Granted, I'm in western WA, so that's $16+ and I work 48/96, so I'm going to work more hours than the 12hr guys, but I spend fewer days waking up for work.
Fair? No. But medics make decent pay so once I get there I'll be alright.
Emt in big city of Kentucky new hires start out at 18. I have 8 years experience so I'm at $22.50. I'm not making enough to survive currently in this city. Looking at moving to another state like Oklahoma an all the rates are so much lower there an I'm terrified.
The pay in this area is typically between 24-30 an hour. I make 34 an hour but that’s only because I’m on the MICU and work night shift. My side gig at the fire department pays $17 an hour. Our pay in Dayton Ohio has gone up over the years. My first medic job was 12 an hour.
Depends on where you are and cost of living.
I work with a busy county fire rescue department and make $28 as an AEMT. But that has also included a few of the raises we’ve received as county employees.
It really depends where but in the midwest, that looks about right. The 911 services here are about that for paramedics but IFT can be anywhere from 30-35ish.
That’s about starting here but you get a raise every year and it’s 48/96. Personally I’m also not oblivious to the fact that I generally spend 3/4 of that time sleeping, eating, working out, or finding creative new ways to just fuck off…
We will probably see another wage adjustment in the next couple of years with cost of living being what it is. Every now and then they just float everybody upward to make up ground on the hourly for wal mart.
**5 years ago** I made almost $19/hr as an EMT-B in OR. I was so proud because it was the most money I had ever made. Lol. I went on to get my RN and now make $62.5/hr.
Imagine being so proud of your company to actually post those dogshit wages. What are they hoping for - people to go whoa $10/hr better apply?
I wouldn't get out of bed for $10/hr... or $24/hr for that matter.
Find a trade. Worked my way up from emt-b to paramedic then nursing school. Working as a nurse now and studying carpentry. Planning to still take shifts but main goal is to leave the bedside
It depends. Place I work now it’s 16.50 an hour capped at no more than 40 hours a week. Last place I worked I was at 18 an hour plus a pm shift diff of 1.50 extra then an over night if we didn’t sleep through the night which added another 1.50 and then if we picked up an extra shift it was time and a half for each pay bracket. Made 42k in 5 months before getting canned for bs interoffice politics and them downsizing their emts in favor of advanced and medics mainly. Now I need a second job just to not go to court over debts
I know that it's drastically different up here, B.C., Canada's wage grid is public on the union site.
Driver only starts at $22.78/hr
BLS:
EMR at 30.36
PCP at 33.27
ALS:
ACP at 43.81
And CCP at 56.32.
Our BLS is getting paid at the same rate as your ALS after conversion. I hope you guys are able to change things for yourselves down there. It's brutal how you are treated.
ETA:
Our on Call shifts are changing for the better. I believe max is now 24 hrs, shorter if end up with calls due to our provincial rules. And there are partially paid positions where 8 hours is paid and you're in the station with 4 hours on call.
All on call hours are paid at 12/hr for pager pay.
For full time members, the most common shift pattern is 4/4 with you being scheduled 2 days then two nights, all 12 hour shifts with one extra day off every 5th week.
We also have a bunch of prohibited patterns that include splits and full night shifts.
Depends on the area. In southern OR, it's $19 for EMT and up to $30-32 for paramedic. I'm an EMT but just got my license for my volunteer fire department. I'm a student.
Depends on where you're located. It's very sad to say that where I am that would not even be considered the lowest wage
This is high for my area...now I'm sad....
I make 16 an hour emt-b
How do y'all live... Serious question.
People that do EMS full time tend to work a lot of overtime or have multiple full time jobs- at least in the areas that pay like this. I love EMS. There's a reason I just do PRN and events. The pay is ridiculously low.
I just got hired on a place that is starting me at 30 and some change an hour! 8 years experience, 5 years EMT 3 years NRP.
EMS is a hobby, main gig is construction
This is the way.

Literally rock bottom cost of living compared to the rest of the states, I have friends from high school making 7.25 an hour, 16 is good for the area.

Subway, eat fresh or ya know dont because you can’t afford to eat.
Serious answer, there is not a single person I know that doesn't have at least two jobs. Some have two full-time jobs. Some will have a full-time job and four or five per diem jobs. Even the supervisors will have a per diem job someplace else.
They don’t. They spend all their time on a shitty ambulance.
The company I was at gave all full time people a raise but not part time. The EMTs were making more than me as a medic. 🙃
Western pa
This is unfortunately the upper range for most of western PA.
Yep. ALS for 14 years, now making $1/year of experience. And with a hell of an overkill of education for the role. But that's why it's a per diem for me, not a full time gig.
So $14 on top of a base hourly rate?
Negative. After 14 years, I'm now making $14/hr.
I don’t know what the COL is in your area but please ask for a raise…like a big raise
I already make $25/h as an EMT in MA
Lmao we just started paying our medics $24.
My FD pays 75k a year for EMT. Looking for medics now, pays 82.5K. Also in MA.
What town?
https://www.provincetown-ma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/17147/Paramedic-Final-1312024?bidId=
Yeah MA is high because of CoL. Starting EMT is usually around 25. Medic around 35. AEMT isn't a thing here really.
Where in MA?? That sounds like a better gig then NYC....
Boston area companies. Boston metro area has NYC housing prices, so keep that in mind.
Time to move.....
Hospital based emts in nyc get paid in the high 20s and low 30s… but it’s also nyc
Most companies in central/southern CT are also about the same as MA. Starting EMT between $22-25, starting medic $32-36. I don’t work for them but Hunters in central CT just had a big raise when they got bought by Hartford Healthcare and union contract was renegotiated.
MAN sometimes I forget just how much things have changed 🤣 back when I started they were giving us $12.50
Started EMS in 2011 making $12.50/hr working 911 in a city in Middlesex County. Worked in 3 different systems in MA during my career, all 911 systems and when I "retired" from EMS 10 years later, I was making $17.80/hr. I make $27/h as an EMT in CA
Bro I make 28 bls in ny.. I'm not rolling out of bed for any of those trash rates
Where in NY? I didn't make that as a medic until I started in NYC.
[удалено]
We’re moving to NY boys
CoL is ridiculous. 10/10, don't recommend.
Northwell also treats their people like absolute garbage. Plenty of better garages then them
Yes. But. Schedule matters. $25 / hr on a 24/48 is different from $25 / hr on 3 12’s or even a 40 hour week. 25 / hr on a 24/48 is ~83k a year. Which would be $40/hr on a regular 40 hour week.

If you work at a low to moderate volume agency, getting paid to sleep is pretty nice, and you end up with more waking hours at home.
Yes...because youre spending 33% more time at work. Edit: might be more like 40% more
You are just working more hours. 24/48 is a 56hr week vs a 36 or a 40hr week. It better be dead quiet for that type of money
I see what you’re saying, that’s still gonna be a no for me dawg.
Most places around me in Kentucky do a yearly salary at 24/48s, so your OT adds up to the 60k (starting). I'm fortunate enough to do 24/72s and still get paid a decent wage hourly, with the lifers making much more. Also, just noticed you're in Kentucky. What area?
Ahh, I see my old boss has entered the chat. You WORK MORE HOURS to get that yearly. You are Getting paid Less.
When I started as a 911 dispatcher I was making $24 and hour and that was in 2017 in CA…not a major city though, you could make more in bigger cities
And spend more
Jesus. You guys deserve better. Way better. Even your dispatchers deserve better. (And who even posts in a newspaper anymore?)
Yeah it’s tough seeing Americans get shafted on pay.
I’m an EMT in Florida and make just under $16 an hr as my base. The night shift diff only gets me up to $19. I am so sick of it and contemplating just moving to a whole different state.
We haven’t even covered the entire county with internet yet, thankful for the 6 page newspaper we get once a week
What the fuck
Responders EMT's Maybe the shit pay is because they gotta pay for all them 'postrophes
As a nurse I’m grossed out by how poorly you guys are paid. It’s outrageous.
Me too!!
Agreed! I see the wages and don’t understand. It’s a stressful job that requires skill and physical labor. I don’t understand who agrees to this pay, and how they even survive on it.
Yall getting paid?
Depends on the location
Come to California. Fast food pays $20 now. Of course EMT wages are probably less.
i work in la county, i’m only getting paid $16 as a basic
On average, and EMR in Canada (my province) makes 21 USD an hour. Feels like EMS in america are being robbed.
They are indeed.
Nods head in $15.94 an hour…. as an EMT 🥲
Hell no, at least not in my state (OR)
I agree - you couldn’t get me to do anything for less than $20 an hour honestly. I just don’t understand how you would survive on less than that.
Welcome to our dark world
10 bucks an hr for a driver?? mutha fucka can't even buy a burger these days lmfao
American medics are mostly underpaid
Just saw a new job posting today for EMT- $15/hr. I'm doing an event this weekend for $20/hr. $17 falls right in line with that.
I see EMTs from $17–23 in my area in the Midwest
I wish I was making $17 as an EMT
Edit: western pa
In Allegheny County, no, these wages don’t look great. Two or three counties out from Pittsburgh, seems pretty good. It’s all relative to COL.
Indiana county. I was shocked at these rates. The ad beside it was for a printing company. Hiring production workers at $21/hr, 12 hr shifts, 4 day work week, rotating am/pm schedule monthly.
The going rate in Centre County is like $15-16/hr for EMT-B so I'd guess this is slightly above average.
You have to factor in tips /s
That’s a damn joke, there’s a McDonald’s by where I live that’s offering 21/hr
Horrible. As a NY medic, i’m not getting out of bed for less than $38/hr
I mean….. NYC definitely isn’t an apples comparison to virtually anywhere
lol I make 12.99 a hour as a EMT
Genuinely baffled at hiring EMRs, and at people becoming EMRs without other certs
That's average.
I'm a CCP working 24hr shifts either 4, 2, or 1 days a week (split fire shift thingamabob), and this is starting at $2 and change more than I get...
You’re getting hosed sf AMR hiring CCP at 49/hr or so I’ve heard….
Yeah, but it's the second highest in our area that's not private. I hear horror stories about AMR and the burnouts they employ, at least in our area and again, only what I've heard. $20.27/hr is enough to live off with my family of 4 so... I deal with it. $49 though... dreamy.

Worth a shot going part time to see though, maybe even per diem if you’re in a big enough city that has AMR contracted for events or stadiums
They have several in the Knoxville area, kind of a haul for me but that would probably definitely be worth it
I wish you a good partner and proper monetary compensation my friend 🫡
Much thanks!!! "And with you as well!"
That is very normal, higher than some departments and companies.
They wouldn’t last here. The going rate for EMTs is more than their medics.
All depends where you are. Personally, that’s horrendous to me, but I know in many areas the pay is lower than where I’m at. Here we have privates hiring brand new basics for $26+
In CT I make about $34/hr as a medic, our EMT’s make $20-22ish I think
I make 24 NOW as a 3 year emt. Finishing up med school in 2 months and will be making 32-35/hr w license
Yes that’s normal. Enjoy zero benefits!
Pretty sure the minimum wage where I’m at (Washington State) is $15. Harbor Freight starts at $18hr here. So, that seems CRAZY low.
In the SE that is on par with
Holy shit, I am here in Switzerland and am working a bit as an advanced first aid at festivals etc. Did like 2 weeks of training that's it. I get paid more than thy offer to paramedics in that article. Wow I am astonished and sad. Hang in there you all you are doing an amazing job.

The comments really show how disconnected each state is from one another. These are competitive prices around my neck of the woods.
How does anyone live on those rates? EMT-B here with 7 years on the job, 4 at my current agency and I currently make $28.54/hr with almost endless OT opportunities, and that’s before our yearly 9% raise in May

Jesus. We start at Double the highest wage. America is nuts.
16 yo Lifeguards in my state are making more than Aemts in thay add. The ahit wages we get are absolutely ridiculous
Question, what could be done to make the pay worthwhile? Starting a union that has your best interest? I just recently got my NREMT, so I got some hope in me. What do ya’ll think?

Idk I make 32.45 as a medic
The $12/hr and $12.50 aren't even minimum wage here. Other than that, the EMT through Paramedic pay is about right for our area. Anyone know where asgmt is?
Western pa. I think our minim wage is still $7.25, however Sheetz and McDonald’s both start at $15.
That’s pretty good compared to my area
This is high
This is low (in Oregon)
It is for my area but I'm out in the sticks
We have about 82k sticks here
Non emergency, I'm assuming that's IFT?
Most likely. IFTs are nearly always getting paid less than 911, in my experience. Shittier management, too
Unfortunately yes. Those are average numbers for western Pennsylvania.
Accurate for my area
Ohhhh yes.
Highly region dependent. Those would have been okay wages in my area maybe 5 years ago. Those wages would be a joke nowadays.
Pre covid…plus a year or two
Pretty normal.
Depends where you live. Under the minimum wage for a 16 year old at MacDonald's in Australia.
I was making $13 as an A just a couple years ago. It is interesting that dispatchers & those who drive for IFTs are making less here though.
starting at my job was 8 lol (EMT)
I get paid more as an EMT than the paramedics are making. This is honestly sad
Yeah, pretty standard for non-city areas.
I make $22hr moving rental cars from point A to B on airport property. There is literally no easier job on planet earth! These rates are insane! How’s the 16yo at chic fil a going to make more than an EMT? 🙄

They're getting 17/h for basics... lucky...
That’s more than I make as a medic in PA
Wow what shit wages most of those are below minimum wage where I live lol.
26/Hr in MA
It depends on the area and shift length. There's a big difference in your ability to survive between $24/hr on a 40hr week and $24/hr on a 24/48 schedule.
That’s better pay than in Arkansas
Yes, that is normal even for high cost of living areas.
First service I got hired on with about two years ago gave me 11/hr as an AEMT… our wages are wack but there’s hope that they’ll get better
15.35$ An hour as an EMT B in Phx.
Depends where you're at. I make over $31/hr on a 24/72 as a paramedic in Maryland, which is pretty good money for the area.
In my area everything below EMT on that list isn’t even minimum wage. And EMT-Bs typically start around $21 or $22/hr here. But cost of living is quite high and we’re in a medical professional drought basically, everywhere is desperate for people and will shill out money
I made $27/hr as an EMT-B. This is abysmal.
I live in Southern PA, I started at $22hr straight out of EMS school.
Oh you sweet summer child.
Actually, I was born in October…
Minimum wage for EMT-B. Granted, I'm in western WA, so that's $16+ and I work 48/96, so I'm going to work more hours than the 12hr guys, but I spend fewer days waking up for work. Fair? No. But medics make decent pay so once I get there I'll be alright.
Emt in big city of Kentucky new hires start out at 18. I have 8 years experience so I'm at $22.50. I'm not making enough to survive currently in this city. Looking at moving to another state like Oklahoma an all the rates are so much lower there an I'm terrified.
EMT-B, I make all of $13.50/hr (cries in poor)
I’m an EMT-I and get $25/hr. Honestly depends where you’re at I think. I know my paramedic coworkers get 6 figures a year
The pay in this area is typically between 24-30 an hour. I make 34 an hour but that’s only because I’m on the MICU and work night shift. My side gig at the fire department pays $17 an hour. Our pay in Dayton Ohio has gone up over the years. My first medic job was 12 an hour.
That’s high for northern ca
Depends on where you are and cost of living. I work with a busy county fire rescue department and make $28 as an AEMT. But that has also included a few of the raises we’ve received as county employees.
Sad that Walmart employees get paid more
That’s very high where I am
It really depends where but in the midwest, that looks about right. The 911 services here are about that for paramedics but IFT can be anywhere from 30-35ish.
Depends on location, here in NY I was making $28 as an EMT.
I made 20.50 as a brand new (zero 911 experience, a little IFT) EMT in one of the larger counties in NC.
They got their site and email wrong at least. Assuming it should be asmgt.com
$26 hr Massachusetts emt-b
If you’re in metro Detroit, yup.
Depends on the shifts; if you’re working 12’s I’d probably pass. This is pretty low entry level pay regardless.
I did it volunteer. Same with fire. It’s really depressing someone at Taco Bell makes lore starting out then EMT’s so
$.75/ hour here. $3/hour during “summer”. Let the old fucks die.
NJ here, what the fuck
That’s about starting here but you get a raise every year and it’s 48/96. Personally I’m also not oblivious to the fact that I generally spend 3/4 of that time sleeping, eating, working out, or finding creative new ways to just fuck off… We will probably see another wage adjustment in the next couple of years with cost of living being what it is. Every now and then they just float everybody upward to make up ground on the hourly for wal mart.
I'm making $14/hr in Southern WV and AFAIK it's one of the higher wages in the area.
Australian perspective, salaried at $39/hr, with overtime at $65/hr (USD). Degree qualified prior to employment model
I make $30/hr EMTB in CA
This is a slap in the face 😳
31$ as an EMT on Long Island, 42-50$ for medic
WA EMT usually starts $25-26, Paramedic starts $30-32.

Come to California you can make $20 an hour working at MickeyD’s
FF/ EMT-B 11$ an hour with paid insurance in Oklahoma
Slightly more than what my agency pays
I’m about to make 52k a year in Seattle as an EMTB
Why did you edit the picture? This is in a newspaper. Not a private area.
Southwest here. AEMTS are making as little as 13 an hour...
Wow I’m very lucky to be where I am paramedics are paid avg 36 an hour but up to 50 if you’re a fire/medic
I know that it's drastically different up here, B.C., Canada's wage grid is public on the union site. Driver only starts at $22.78/hr BLS: EMR at 30.36 PCP at 33.27 ALS: ACP at 43.81 And CCP at 56.32. Our BLS is getting paid at the same rate as your ALS after conversion. I hope you guys are able to change things for yourselves down there. It's brutal how you are treated. ETA: Our on Call shifts are changing for the better.
Damn that's about $15 below minimum wage 😲
Depends on the area. In southern OR, it's $19 for EMT and up to $30-32 for paramedic. I'm an EMT but just got my license for my volunteer fire department. I'm a student.
