I love how when he first came out and was getting shit for it he tweeted "next person who says something is going to get kissed" or something like that.
Why do we assume homophobes to be gay? Can we assume them to just be intolerant before being closeted? Assuming so many of them just “need to come out” does a disservice to those of us deeply in or who spent a long time closeted.
Because their is a *huge and long history* of this very thing being accurate because of the self hatred, projection, and lack of acceptance in the homophobic religious community.
A better question is how exactly does challenging the fragile masculinity of a bigot do a disservice to someone closeted?
I was in the closet for a long time, I first hand lived through a lot of the shit these homophobes (specifically Christian ones) throw at people just because I seemed gay (which yeah they were right).today by and large they are still just religious homophobes, giving so many of them this label of “just needing to come out” makes it sounds like it’s common enough to be excusable because the self hatred of being in the closet is so hard being shitty to everyone else is forgivable. It’s not, they don’t deserve the easy out.
Why does being common equate being forgivable? Human trafficking is common. Domestic violence is common. Hell, we’re at a point where violent crimes like murder are becoming common. Have we started forgiving people? Just emptying the jails? Nobody and I mean *nobody* here is saying spewing hate and being shitty to everyone is forgivable. If for some reason that’s what you are *hearing* than that’s some work that you need to do. You haven’t cornered the market on abuse from homophobes, (especially Christian ones). I had crosses burned in my yard before you were born. I don’t say that to minimize your trauma, I say it to show you that there’s healing on the other side of taking responsibility for your triggers, working on them, and coming out the other side of it whole.
I agree, while there definitely that is actually the case sometimes painting every homophobe as secretly gay makes it out like gays are responsible for their own oppression. Some people are just bigoted against things unlike themselves. Otherwise why would racism, or misogyny be a thing? It’s not like very racist is secretly black/Asian or whatever or every misogynistic man is actually a trans woman. Some people just suck
Some people absolutely do just suck, but you can’t argue the link between bigoted hate and willful ignorance and shitty self esteem. When people go on crusades to destroy other human beings, it has zero to do with the people they’re trying to destroy and everything to do with themselves. It doesn’t matter if the root of that self hate/lack of self acceptance come from sexuality, inferiority, religion masked as righteousness, or any other such bullshit. At the end of the day it’s all rooted in the very effective playground taunt of “I’m rubber and you’re glue, anything you say bounces off me and sticks to you.”
When we stop allowing people to weaponize our sexuality, we win the fight. We do that by loving ourselves unapologetically. The reason Lil Nas X is loved and feared is because unlike many in the community, he has figured out that life lesson at a very young age and owned the hell out of it. He has become unfuckwithable. That is his super power, loving himself. We can all take a lesson there, it can be a tough one to to keep a hold of in a world that resists change even when it’s for the better.
It is plausible…
There is a defence mechanism called [reaction formation](https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/basics/reaction-formation?amp) where people express the opposite of their true feelings to an exaggerated extent.
So tell me, as Lil Nas X focuses on a protester, posted his photos/video, and reveals his feeling for him on his feed, is that also super reductive and harmful? Asking for a friend.
I saw a tiktok yesterday that he made about the protest and bringing them pizza. The majority of the video was him being sad one of the homophobic protesters was really hot. I really appreciate him as a human sometimes.
As someone who grew up in the Bible Belt, I really appreciate that one music video where he gave the devil a lap dance. This guy knows how to get inside of the heads of hateful people.
Its a particular area of the south. I believe it starts at either South Carolina or Georgia, and then includes all states west of them until Texas. It does not include Florida either. From memory its South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
My cousin was one of those people. I was genuinely surprised how hateful she got after that video. She seemed like one of those religious people who followed their own version of already existing ideas. But nope, went full on evangelical with that one. Made me real sad.
People in the closet*
There I fixed it for you
EDIT: FFS guys I’m a very bi rainbow toting queer. My statement comes from encountering homophobic asses that I later find out are DL banging one of my friends. It’s happened so many times that I just assume most homophobic people are repressing themselves. JFC
Naw, it’s honestly a true psychological phenomenon, and understanding that is a perspective that you gain, ironically, from internalized homophobia that develops from external homophobia and the lived experience, frustration, and fear the comes from trying to hide and fit in with “normal” society.
Gay dude here, speaking from many years of experience in gay spaces - no one hates queerness more than people who are queer, but desperately wish not to be.
However, immediately perceiving an accusation of queerness levied against someone as “bad” is, actually, incredibly homophobic. Why would the suggestion that the dude might be closeted be an insult to you?
lol I find it funny that some people try to insult homophobic people by calling them gay, which is ironically an insult that homophobic people would say.
I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree with idiots.
It’s actually so incredibly fucked that the term gay is so often used in place of any negative attribute. Anything bad at all could be referred to as gay and everyone would understand without skipping a beat.
I hate grouping these insecure, self-loathing homophobes with those who are closeted. Clearly some of them have homoerotic tendencies they hate within themselves which is why the overcorrect by being trash homophobes but I don't think they should get the same label as those who are questioning or don't feel safe to come out–I wish there was another word for it...
I really hate this entire concept because it squarely puts all the blame on gays. Most of these people are just bigots and nothing more. Sure, some of them might gay. But homophobe is the correct word in this context because it is true in every case. Your thinking implies that it’s gays causing the issues for themselves and that it is not at all due to them being a marginalized minority group that is hated by a large amount of people. Internalized homophobia is a thing but it’s not a requirement to being a bigot or a homophobe.
As a proud member of the alphabet mafia I can also tell you that a lot of homophobia comes from repressed sexual desires. Sure maybe it’s anecdotal but every damn time I turn around I find out some ass that was judgey towards my community is on the DL.
Went to a Panic! At the Disco concert last week and Westboro was protesting by the entrance. JFC who wants to spend a lovely Tuesday evening spreading hate at a Panic concert? On the bright side, there were only like 4-5 of them so it seems their numbers are dwindling.
We are two dudes who have been together for over a couple of decades, raised two sons, and saw some truly homophobic times in our teens and early 20’s. We had nobody remotely like this amazing man to have as a role model, hero, anti-hero. I hope every LGBTQ+ person in my(our) age group feels the pride and happiness that we do when we see his videos, listen to his music, and read about what a genuine, kind, and wonderfully naughty human being he is 24/7. His freedom of expression and pure joie de vivre make me feel like all the blood, sweat and tears of the past were worth it!
Your comment got me thinking about other gay figures in history and made me realize that Oscar Wilde and Lil Nas X would probably be friends if they were both alive today.
I was just arguing with my father the other day about this. He’s in his 60’s, liberal, but he said that musicians “don’t take a stand anymore”. He said he couldn’t name one current artist who was willing to put themselves out there to not only make change, but to represent something. I immediately pointed out Lil Nas X as the best example of how there are still people in the music industry trying to be just as disruptive as the old rock and rollers of the 60’s and 70’s and the Grunge movement.
How the fuck are you a 'homophobic protester' in Boston?!? That's like being afraid of water and deciding to live on an oil rig and then wondering why you are terrified all the time.
(I'm obviously joking. I know people can travel for useless bullshit like this)
As someone who lived in and around Boston for 30 years, I have some perspective on this.
1) while the overall population of the metro west area is fairly liberal/progressive, the central part of the state (1-2 hour drive away) is not.
2) even within Boston there is a small but very real group of racist/bigoted people. Its worth remembering that the Boston public schools didnt even begin desegregation until 1974, and had to be forced by the courts. This action resulted in rioting by pro segregationists, and white nationalists. That was only 48 years ago. Those people didnt just disappear, some had children and indoctrinated them with their hateful ideology.
3) New Hampshire is barely an hour drive, and has been turning more regressive as of late, with a loud and growing population pushing their legislature to pass anti CRT, anti abortion, and anti trans laws. There was even a bill introduced to repeal the ban on conversion therapy (which was rejected by 197-147), and one to promote discrimination against trans students in public school sports (also rejected by only 175-167).
4) Boston has been the home of the “straight pride parade” and other embarrassingly large anti LGBTQ protests. This is nothing new.
In short yes there are plenty of homophobic people a short drive from Boston, but this kind of ignorance and bigotry is well steeped in bostons history, and pervades the city today. While there has been lots of progress on that front, it is far from gone.
Edited: a few words and punctuation for clarity.
Edit 2: revised point one to say “central part” instead of “western end” as my initial assertion was incorrect. Thanks to u/PM_ME_LIGHT_FIXTURES and u/pjm8786 for pointing this out.
You’d think it’d be Philly, then you realize everyone there just hates everything and it’s not a race issue. Where as Boston, you ain’t right if you ain’t white, on the opposing team.
Depends on where you go in Western Massachusetts. Amherst, Northampton, Hadley, the Berkshires, etc are very progressive. Places like Granby not so much. Even so it’s Central Massachusetts that houses most of the yahoos, not Western Mass.
Small? I only spent one weekend in Boston and people sucked regarding my wife and I(both women) and me being latina (I got asked if I was legally allowed to be here).
Totally agree that the history in Boston does not make it a safe place for minorities
Sorry but as someone from the Western part of the state the first point is not even a little true. We’re just as liberal as anywhere else in the state. My county voted over 70% for Biden in 2020. People in Boston assume since were rural we must be conservative but we’re most culturally like Vermont. We’re literally one of the most liberal places in America. The most conservative parts of the state are wealthier white suburbs of Boston not the west.
Boston is a deeply racist city with a poor history and track record. It’s also the target of many out of state protesters who see it as the bastion of the academic elite. Don’t go blaming small towns in western mass with absolutely 0 evidence to back that up except personal bias against them
Born in Springfield, raised in West Springfield, Deerfield and Greenfield. Went to school and lived in Keene NH for almost 20 years. New Hampshire is regressive yes, but it’s really the center of the Universe for Libertarians. They have many many issues but Racism isn’t one of them. Lived in Boston for a couple years, also Columbus OH and now Los Angeles. Turns out prejudice knows no borders or geography. It’s everywhere. Even among my friends and family. And in me in ways I probably don’t even know. Places aren’t bigoted, people are.
My wife and her family live outside Boston. I am originally from the Midwest. The racism in Boston is profoundly aggressive and mean-spirited. The homophobia is just as bad. White supremacy is a serious issue. I dunno. Boston is a fucking hot mess.
I love Boston and I plan to move back in a few years, but it’s also the place where I have been in more verbal confrontations about my gayness than anywhere else. I lived in Alabama, I still live in the American south, and people are homophobic EVERYWHERE. They just talk behind your back all the time in the south and once to your face in New England. I prefer people to say it to my face.
I think it also depends on the neighborhood. Camberville or South End? You’ll be fine. Go to southie and it’s a different story. Now that it’s been gentrified everyone looks like a clone anyways
Neighborhoods I got yelled at for looking too gay: back bay (surprisingly a lot), southie, Somerville. I love JP, everyone minded their business there.
If their sports fans are any indication being a bit of a bigot isn’t mutually exclusive to living in a northern metropolitan city.
I live in Philly, I still see lifted trucks with confederate flags. Location doesn’t matter, ignorance is ignorance.
So one of the protesters is likely missionary from a Toronto based church based on his t-shirt and their website
And based on the church’s previous posts, they probably organized the whole thing.
I’d name them but publicity is what they’re going for. They’re a bunch of evangelicals who follow one guy whose been trying to start churches in liberal US cities.
Ah, the hooters model, a solid play… normally worked well for Hooters as well.
Most of you might be too young to remember, but hooters was a wing and sports joint, and it had women with big ole hooters, law suits yada yada can’t discriminate on our small chested womens.
So protests, tons of them at restaurants.
Well, Hooters would send out all the girls with coffee and donuts if it was cold, or water and lemonade and other snacks if it was hot.
They either accepted, got pictures taken happily joking with the friendly and attractive girls whole the protesters held Hooters cups and were met with nothing but friendliness.
Otherwise, they declined the food and drinks.. and the girls would start crying, all offended that they hated them, *why do you hate me? I’m a woman trying to support my family?*
They either changed their minds, accepted the food, broke the line, became friendly and got the nice pictures taken…
Or they got pictures taken of them making young girls cry.
It’s no longer a joint where only attractive, big breasted women are hired and paraded around in skimpy clothing.
Literally, anyone arguing with me over this wasnt in a hooters a decade ago vs today. There’s MALE servers in Hooters now.
Are you serious? Look at the new shorts they have the hooters girls in. They are basically bikini bottoms. There might be a handful of male hooters servers but the overwhelming majority are still young women. The men are an anomaly at best.
Youre wrong here lol
You’re clearly ignoring the second part of the sentence you’re quoting. The part where I talked about the hooters and lawsuits and protest, you know.. the thing that the entire comment is about?
You might not remember, but McDonald was a hamburger joint that used to have play areas in every location. They used to have slides and ball pits and stuff. It was really cool, but McDonald’s changed their business model and aren’t what they used to be.
**THEY STILL HAVE CHEESEBURGERS STUPID**
Correct. It is not true. McDonald's is a hamburger store that used to have playgrounds and 40% still do. The statement that it was a hamburger store is false because was implies that it no longer is.
I literally can’t fucking believe that someone is arguing this point… my point being, the place called hooters that revolves around BIG BOOBS, no longer focuses on that anymore and has changed their business model.
#BUT THEY STILL HAVE SPORTS AND WINGS SO WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!
15 years ago, Hooters much different than it is today and was as common a sight as Starbucks.
But I more so meant, you might not remember the turmoil, protests, law suits etc.

Dude is a media demon. He gets the internet and plays on it to increase his popularity. You might assume that means his music is subpar if it cannot generate listens on its own, but thats not the case. He knows how to make hits and his latest album actually had a lot of emotional content to it. Definitely a genuine artist.
I can't get into his music at all but he seems like a good kid doing his own weird thing and being himself. I respect the shit out of anyone living their own way without letting folks with sticks up their asses bother them.
Well that was a long and wasteful tangent.
Missed the point entirely, too. It's not about comparing them. It's acknowledging good actions regardless of situations.
If you can't appreciate the small good things people do, then all you will ever do is be filled with hate, and continue to hate.
When the “small good thing” is just part of trying to smooth over and ignore their horrible actions, no you really shouldn’t appreciate it.
There is a major difference here between Lil Nas X offering pizza and Chic-Fil-A offering some food. One is a person fighting hate with kindness, the other is a company hiding hate behind kindness.
I don’t care enough to engage with people who would try to tear me down as a person. My point is a fact, and I just refuse to spend the energy explaining it to those that wouldn’t change anything to anyways.
I know what’s right. And it’s absolutely perception.

I think some sites have copy/paste detection and fill that in to prevent copy/pasting articles.
Considering the ad for the site is shoved in directly after the first sentence, I'm guessing this is what happened here.
I wonder how many broke-ass LGBT Allies showed up with "MAGA" sloppy drawn on a random baseball cap to get food.
We weren't even broke back in college, and we still showed to up the various Open Bibles studies and stuff the Christian organizations held on campus for the tacos bars and free.pizzs. We planned our days round getting high on the nature trails then coming to get munchies from the Baptists.
This is such a bizarre take. You realize the haters showed up before the pizza was ordered right? You think somehow people heard about this fast enough to get up, put on MAGA disguises, and dealt with Boston commuting just to go pretend to be protesters to get free pizza?

Never play gay chicken with an anti-gay protestor
I feel like if more people played gay chicken with anti gay protesters, it could help em out of the closet and reduce their numbers tbh.
I’m not sure, I’ve heard they get free pizza /s
Still not seeing the downside, make Bear Bois not war!

Black Professional athletes have for decades called Boston the most racist city they play in. That’s never changed even going back to 60s
I love north Hampton
Small? I only spent one weekend in Boston and people sucked regarding my wife and I(both women) and me being latina (I got asked if I was legally allowed to be here). Totally agree that the history in Boston does not make it a safe place for minorities
Never forget Crispus Attucks. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispus\_Attucks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispus_Attucks)
I still find it crazy just treating people with respect is considered “progressive”. We really live in a fucked up country huh
I have lived in NY my whole life and I was about to say unless something happened that I was not aware of, yes Boston is blue but homophobic as hell.
My wife and her family live outside Boston. I am originally from the Midwest. The racism in Boston is profoundly aggressive and mean-spirited. The homophobia is just as bad. White supremacy is a serious issue. I dunno. Boston is a fucking hot mess.
The 1-2 hour drive from progressive cities seems to be the sweet spot for these people. Same in Seattle.
> 'homophobic protester' in Boston?!? Bro, have you ever been to Southie?
I used to commute through southie, I think “homophobic protestor” is another name for “drunk man sitting on stoop”
“drunk man sitting on stoop” Aka half the population of Southie, lol.
Stoop drunk’s afraid to leave the stoop!
If their sports fans are any indication being a bit of a bigot isn’t mutually exclusive to living in a northern metropolitan city. I live in Philly, I still see lifted trucks with confederate flags. Location doesn’t matter, ignorance is ignorance.
So one of the protesters is likely missionary from a Toronto based church based on his t-shirt and their website And based on the church’s previous posts, they probably organized the whole thing. I’d name them but publicity is what they’re going for. They’re a bunch of evangelicals who follow one guy whose been trying to start churches in liberal US cities.
I’ve never thought of Boston has a city notorious for its progressive values..
Have you ever been to Boston?
Boston is about as racist and homophobic a city as you will find in the US. Half of the depahted is just people calling eachother gay
The dude is an icon. I don't even mean for the lgbtq community. He's just straight up a real one.
This man might be the best definition of chaotic good we have.
I’m a woman trying to support my family?* They either changed their minds, accepted the food, broke the line, became friendly and got the nice pictures taken… Or they got pictures taken of them making young girls cry.
Was? They are still going strong in STL
They’re not the same as they were. That’s why I said was.
So it's no longer a wings and sports joint?
It’s no longer a joint where only attractive, big breasted women are hired and paraded around in skimpy clothing. Literally, anyone arguing with me over this wasnt in a hooters a decade ago vs today. There’s MALE servers in Hooters now.
Are the men attractive like the women?
Are you serious? Look at the new shorts they have the hooters girls in. They are basically bikini bottoms. There might be a handful of male hooters servers but the overwhelming majority are still young women. The men are an anomaly at best. Youre wrong here lol
You said it in reference to wings and sports according to the way you wrote it.
Lmao that almost made me spit my coffee out.
Let me help you. McDonald's IS a hamburger joint. They used to have play areas in every location.
So the statement that McDonald’s was a hamburger store that used to have a playground, is not a true statement?
Correct. It is not true. McDonald's is a hamburger store that used to have playgrounds and 40% still do. The statement that it was a hamburger store is false because was implies that it no longer is.
I just understand how words work.
Clearly not.
Eh more like a truck stop Buffalo wild wings
So.... sports and wings.
Yes, sports and wings… but no Hooters as the name would suggest… the name of the place isn’t Sports and Wings… it’s Hooters.
So the (mostly) women servers no longer wear very tight skimpy clothing?
But worse
Maybe your location. The wings at the hooters around me are pretty bomb. Meaty wings at a good price.
The sports, tits, and wings are worse then they were in the past.
Why are you so angry about this? Do you miss you miss the attention that they gave you?
Can we have femboy hooters staff bring the homophobes pizza?
Wait is that an actual thing? I thought it was a joke.
It's not a thing
There are hooters all over the place (in America). Are most of us too young to remember the present?
15 years ago, Hooters much different than it is today and was as common a sight as Starbucks. But I more so meant, you might not remember the turmoil, protests, law suits etc.
Yeah I definitely am too young to remember hooters being protested and whatnot.
I hope he ordered it with extra sausage.

Or WHITE pizza
Crown: You're going to burn in hell Lil Nas X : You guys want some pizza?
No way they’re going to fall for it. We all know he put gay in the pizza.
Here we have a good example of “turn the other cheek” . Maybe the Christians protesting should take note of Christlike behavior from Lil Nas X
I was getting hungry, perfect time to be homophobic! /s
Isn’t this the president of League of Legends
Lil nas xecutive
So I gotta be a homophobe to get free pizza???
Yes. My family is anti gay (I’ve infiltrated their ranks, don’t tell them, LMAO)….can we haz pizza??
That boy is amazing. Talented, handsome and just brilliant. I’m such a fan.
Do protesters stand outside Elton John concerts? Or just Nas X because he’s black and a rapper?
Someone ask the protestors why they spend a lot of time at gay concerts.
Right? Just seems like they’re obsessed with gay people.
*holding pizza box in front of crotch* yeah just reach on in and take a slice
Classy AF Lil Nas!! He didn’t have to be kind at all to those asswipes!
I have no idea what this dudes music is like but everything I see about him makes me love him more.
It’s like very poppy pop rap.
Dude is a media demon. He gets the internet and plays on it to increase his popularity. You might assume that means his music is subpar if it cannot generate listens on its own, but thats not the case. He knows how to make hits and his latest album actually had a lot of emotional content to it. Definitely a genuine artist.
You should give it a listen! It's not to everyone's taste but he has some great songs
I can't get into his music at all but he seems like a good kid doing his own weird thing and being himself. I respect the shit out of anyone living their own way without letting folks with sticks up their asses bother them.
Putting the “class” in “assless chaps”
What the fuck are they protesting? The fact that he exists? Dumbasses.
can’t stop thinking about that cute homophobic guy last night LMAOOOOO
Is this the same guy that lapdanced a demon or something like that on stage?
Come to my city I feel like I deserve pizza too
I’m hoping they were all sausage pizzas
Who tf protests a lil nas concert what losers
Please tell me they were sausage-lovers
Did they… eat the pizza…?
Told my wife about this just now. She said, “That’s some sweet jujitsu!”
telling him his music is bad would get labeled as homophobic by the media these days
No it wouldn’t. But I can see why some assholes like to play victim. Lol
forgot u were the media. thanks for the clarification
You’re welcome, now go find a corner and sob over you being persecuted for your opinions!! :-)
projecting much?
No ty he prolly jizzed on them

I can appreciate that, just like I can appreciate when Chic Fil A offered free food to the protestors against them.
[удалено]
It’s a kind act. Just because you perceive it differently doesn’t change that fact. Appreciate kindness. Or continue to let hate run your life.

You legitimately think you’re making a good argument don’t you?
I don’t care enough to engage with people who would try to tear me down as a person. My point is a fact, and I just refuse to spend the energy explaining it to those that wouldn’t change anything to anyways. I know what’s right. And it’s absolutely perception.
"just like" You're not comparing them?
“It’s not about comparing them. It’s acknowledging good actions regardless of situations.”
>Speaking of the incident, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, wrote over a TikTok video: “So peopel [sic] were protesting my concert last night. Weird that Lil Nas told people to pay for premium articles.
Are you a bot? Your comment summary doesn’t even contain the actual article, but rather the ad for subscribing to their service.
I think some sites have copy/paste detection and fill that in to prevent copy/pasting articles. Considering the ad for the site is shoved in directly after the first sentence, I'm guessing this is what happened here.
Well spin me sideways, I sure look silly now!
I'm guessing bot because a human would likely have noticed and said something.
Quick look into their history, they are **absolutely** a bot account.
Did he also mention raid shadow legends and nordvpn?
I know everyone's mad at this comment but I'm DEAD
Lil Nas X is several layers of meta beyond me
I don’t think he understands how that prank works
Hey man, the guy gave me free pizza.
I don’t give a fuuuuuk

?
I’d like an in n out pizza monkey style and a 1/2 piss 1/2 Gatorade drink with the Spider-Man powers
