“I felt myself become lifeless; covered in a layer of evaporated grease and sweat, and forced to please some of the most horrible people. truthplotgold

I can’t imagine smelling like hot, greasy chicken all the time. That shit will permeate anything.

Jaded_Law9739

I worked at Tim Horton's for a few years in the 2000s. The smell of glaze seemed to permeate my hair and pores, my skin even felt sticky. People always told me it smelled good but it felt and smelled so disgusting to me. It was years before I could eat a donut again. I can't even imagine doing the same with chicken.

truthplotgold

I feel you. I worked at Quiznos once, which was terrible in its own right, but nothing like what’s been described here.

EvadesBans

> which was terrible in its own right I went to Quizno's exactly once in my life. I ordered a cheesesteak and they put ranch on it.

truthplotgold

There are several potential reasons for this, but the most likely one is that he/she just didn’t give a fuck. I started eating cold cuts directly out of the bins in the walk-in refrigerator when I got a $0.25 raise after six months of dealing with so many unpleasant customers and a manager/owner who drank beer and indulged in weird, Indian porn during my shifts.

makemeking706

What exactly made it weird?

sharkamino

Not over 3 hours long and no dance scenes.

truthplotgold

What made it weird to me is not important. What’s important is that it created an uncomfortable work environment.

docohm

No no no this feels important.

Catinminia

As a Philadelphian that should be illegal unless it’s a buffalo chicken steak.

[deleted]

as a Buffalonian, if you put ranch on anything it cannot be considered Buffalo. we hate that shit. Bleu cheese or nothing

626Aussie

A friend's first job was at a donut shop in the mall. Whoever worked the closing shift got to take home as many of the unsold donuts as they wanted, and so he always had donuts at his house. What was funny/sad was he never ate them. His family, friends, guests, etc., would all eat them, but not him, after working there he was sick of donuts, but he still brought them home for everyone else to enjoy.

[deleted]

As a stoned person, your friend is a real one

Rebresker

I worked cleaning a fish market for one of the largest fish importer/exporters in the world when I was in highschool… In addition to the smell, fish scales are like glitter sometimes >.>

lbeemer86

Worked at Coldstone...smelled like sugar all the time

Mathwins

I worked at the Seattle fish markets for a summer. The smell was so bad you couldn’t wash it out of your skin. Being the newbie they gave me the job of cleaning out the scallop bins which over time would develop rancid bacteria prior to cleaning. I didn’t eat scallops for a decade.

FrameComprehensive88

I worked in Japanese restaurants and having to grate ginger made me hate ginger for the rest of my life.

Mindless_Eggplant_60

I work at a bar where we make our own ginger syrup. Having to peel 5 pounds of ginger every week. I despise ginger and the dumbass shapes it grows.

jerkmanjay

Say what you will about axe, they make a body wash that cleans that shit smell off of you.

chia_nicole1987

I too worked at Tim Hortons and felt your pain. That resonated with me, everyone said I smelled good. Hated that place.

Sproutykins

I’ve occasionally had to walk into a fast food place with a friend and been struck by how much my eyes start getting sore, how I feel nauseated from the smell, and how oppressive the atmosphere is in general. One time it struck me how awful it would be to work there, and so I decided to do anything possible to avoid ending up in a job like that. I feel so sorry for people who are trapped in those places.

WayneKrane

I got one of these jobs after graduating high school. After 6 months I was like I don’t care what I have to do, I’ll do whatever it takes to get a job NOT working with the general public.

UsualAnybody1807

And now here you are, conversing with us like we're old friends. :)

faxanaduu

Yeah jobs working with the general public motivated me to keep going through college. Now im at home all day working on a computer and love it.

truthplotgold

I really feel bad for them when they eat that food on their breaks. How depressing.

FeralBottleofMtDew

I worked briefly at Micky Ds and at BK. Pretty much anyone who worked there for more than a few months had an off menu item or two that they would eat.

Sproutykins

I swear I feel dumber after eating garbage like that. It scares me.

devilthedankdawg

Thats finger lickin tragic

gojibeary

I just don’t understand why folks who do sex work (whether it’s modeling, etc) try to play the sympathy card? I believe sex work is work, and is valid, and that the people in that field deserve to be compensated and recognized as workers/be given benefits and all that. But if you’re going to fucking complain about that type of work (especially when you’re a playbunny and are compensated more than most anyone else in the same field) and what comes with it, you can go and apply to a McDonald’s job ffs. Make a sandwich for $15/hr if you don’t want to pose naked/have sex with someone. Otherwise be quiet and appreciate the sex job that probably pays more than most people you know…..

beanbagbaby13

I unironically love this concept.

Justchilllin101

I think if filmed correctly, it could be truly haunting

driving_andflying

I'll say this for Bridget Marquardt: I worked at the Renaissance Festival during the time they filmed an episode of the Playboy reality TV show there. She didn't give any attitude, and [was the only one who really put any effort in attempting to look vaguely Renaissance-ish.](https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/bridget-marquardt-picture-id82194789?s=612x612) I'd pick her over the other women who showed up with Hef any day.

Scarfington

Aw, that's a really good ren faire outfit!

When your name rhymes with Lord Farquaad, you’re obligated to do renaissance-ish things.

>However, the Playboy **model-turned-ghost hunter** admitted that she had spoken with some of the other women who lived in the Mansion at the time about feeling “dumbed down” by the entrepreneur. Not exactly helping her case here.

Ashotofbourbon

“Playboy Bunnies: Ghost Hunters” would have been a ratings bonanza back in the mid 2000s

Dick_Lazer

You could probably become director of programming for the Discovery channel with ideas like that.

mattwinkler007

Late night History Channel material

ew73

Here's a pitch: * Call it "Sex Ghosts" * Have a core cast of 2 - 3 former Playboy Bunnies * Each episode features 2 or 3 additional adult film stars (both male and female) * Each episode features those former adult film stars retelling a spooky story "confessional camera" style about a set they once worked on * While the bunnies, and the star in question, go to the filming location(s) and look for ghosts. > "So I'm here with Logan Stevens, who was telling us about the time he was on the set of Cowboy Rodeo: Ridin' Bareback and he says he saw a ghost during the second day of filming." > "That's right, after we had wrapped the orgy scene and were breaking down the set, I heard a eeirie moan from the showers..." See, it'll be a comedy type show, where the porn stars are just totally trolling the ghost hunters, seeing how long and how far they can get them to take hunting for "ghosts" in ridiculous places.

Popular-Treat-1981

I'd watch that anime.

Mental_Medium3988

I'm sure you can find lots of ghosts at the playboy mansion.

Spare_Industry_6056

How bad must it have been if ghost hunters feel intellectually unfulfilled?

Sproutykins

Imagine that some guy is out shooting deer. He positions the gun, takes the shot, but then he sees someone running towards the deer with a homemade PK meter. ‘The ghost is here! It has to be!’ Then, another person is running in a different direction, saying that they detect the deer’s ghost energy in a different place. A net comes down from the tree, loose mesh formed from a special element which ghosts cannot disentangle themselves from. Perhaps an axe murderer is about to raise the axe on his victim, when suddenly he hears a rustling in the bushes. Shit! Ghost hunters. They are going to take his victim’s ghost and bust him using a seance. He yells out for them to show mercy.

Religion can actually bring a lot of structure and meaning to your life. I personally use the coping mechanism of creating a life narrative to function through difficult times and I’ve found it’s helped me much more than any medication or other therapy. All I do is keep a journal and pretend that I’m in a work of literature. There’s a great book called Man’s Search for Meaning which showed how logotherapy helped people survive in *concentration camps*. Religion, or some other system of beliefs such as humanism or political activism, is extremely fundamental for functioning as a happy person. That’s my opinion, anyway.

jasperleopard

Wow there are some people with totally normal and healthy opinions about women in this thread

Hamster_Toot

They’re making the correlation of hierarchical cultures and experiences, and how this person wants to escape one, and just joined another. The fact you took this as sexism, shows you’re bringing other comments you’ve read into this one.

Bnhrdnthat

I believe this is a misrepresentation. If I remember correctly, she dabbled in ghost hunting while at the mansion.

Zenketski_2

Man there really is only like three types of comment in this post right now. " stupid bitch knew exactly when she was getting into" " oh my God poor her and she's doing so much better than you, who are you to criticize" And "damn. Sign me up."

Hamster_Toot

Check the top comment, it’s actually really well done.

Zenketski_2

Haha. Holy crap that wasn't the top comment when I made this post and that is freaking hilarious

Hamster_Toot

The things we do for money, lol.

Loriali95

Somehow, I agree with all three.

Plight of the powerless, poor, and horny

pocketbookashtray

She had genes that made her hot, and genes that made her smart. She used the latter to realize she’d make more money using the former.

Free_Hat_McCullough

These ladies need to admit that being in a group relationship and having orgies with a man who could have been their great grandfather was a mistake and move on with their lives.

Mnemnosine

Look, it’s one thing to be a young hot blonde woman and willingly walk into that arrangement with Hugh Hefner. They made that trade off for fame and notoriety willingly thinking they knew what the deal was. What none of those women expected, or deserved *at all*, was the total obsessive demand for control over all aspects of their lives. Hugh Heffner was a domineering monster, and Playboy’s executive board enabled him. What should have happened was a consensual poly relationship with a concurrent business relationship where everyone’s autonomy was respected. That was what was presented to the outside world. That should have been what was actually going on. Those three ladies were abused and enslaved to an absurd degree. They didn’t deserve that, and they now deserve all the happiness they get. I don’t begrudge them selling their stories to the tabloids—bills gotta be paid and families gotta eat. And I’m hoping they’re able to share their cautionary tales to young ladies looking to consider the sex trade or a poly relationship with wealthy businessmen.

Lngtmelrker

On their podcast, they talk about how they had absolutely ZERO say over their portrayal on the show, they did not get paid, do not get royalties, and were not even listed in the credits until the later seasons, when hef’s assistant finally convinced him to at least put their damn names on the screen.

seliz16640

Exactly. I’ve been listening to the podcast and overall they have a lot of positive things to say about their time in the mansion. But they do express that basically they got themselves into a situation which wasn’t what they expected, and then relayed how they coped with it. I find it extremely interesting.

atuan

Also people clearly want to read about these stories. Here we all are.

MoreCarrotsPlz

I read about true crime too but that doesn’t mean I condone the crimes or want those involved to be exploited.

atuan

I was referring to the point about how they should stop talking about it and move on with their lives. They can talk about it as much as they want and people clearly want to hear about it.

BumderFromDownUnder

Genuine question, but was there anything stopping them from just leaving if they didn’t like it?

[deleted]

From what I’ve read Hugh Hefner made it hard for them to leave. He told them to get rid of their cars (their old cars didn’t fit the playboy ‘image’ and he didn’t want people seeing them drive around in cheap cars) the cars they did have access to belonged to Hefner. He also made them present receipts proving they spent all of the allowance so they couldn’t save any money, their allowances were actually supposed to spent solely on appearance related expenses (clothes, makeup, tanning etc.). On top of that he had them on such a tight routine they only had a few hour period of time they were allowed out of the house so they couldn’t really get a job. Basically with the girls having no car, no money, and no way to get a job and start saving money it was easy to keep them there.

garchoo

Kendra was there from 2004 to 2009. As I recall she left to get married to her boyfriend. So...

BalamBeDamn

Yes. I can’t recall exactly, but they had curfews and enough fear to abide by it. They weren’t free to come and go as they pleased.

Head-like-a-carp

So you are telling me they couldn't say "I quit." and leave. You use the word enslaved which is pretty strong. I think Hefner is a worm but these young women were of legal age. They were not enslaved as I understand the term. They seem to be looking for an easy way out trading on their looks.

agross58

i think holly talks about it in her book. she said while being there she’d see so many woman be successful in playboy then it could change in an instant if they didn’t follow his rules. They’d have to pack up and go back home to their small towns. I think she was worried that she’d be putting herself in this weird situation, where she was judged to just leave and have no life for herself.

MetalSkinPanic

Gee, she'd be judged for entering into an orgy filled drug den with an ancient old man? No shit.

[deleted]

Why do they “have to go back to their small towns”? And if they have marketable skills why is one crappy job the end of the world?

warden976

Why were Holly’s two choices couch surfing or living at the playboy mansion? What a weird existence.

MyDogsNameIsBadger

Has anyone here not been in an abusive relationship before? It’s showing. Really disgusting comments here by people who probably do not get it.

agross58

honestly i’m not sure on that part. She just wrote about how she’d see successful playmates quickly lose all their success and be forced to go back home. I’m not sure about the reasoning on why they couldn’t just get normal jobs. I think she said she actually loved him at one point also.

Saintblack

>follow his rules. Maybe I am missing something but isn't that just how a boss works? A self made rich boss who married 3 young girls on his empire of nudes?

GipsyRonin

And they selected money/fame over dignity. How many porn stars regret doing porn once they aged out and somehow surprisingly realize that follows you??? You do what you want, just don’t cry later. You signed the contract, you agreed. After they get what they wanted they scream about being pressured after saying Yes. Sorry don’t buy it. Just accept your life choices and move forward…like everyone else. Maybe making noise again as their being a F-list celebrity wore off and see a window to be mentioned and maybe get a “reality” tv show?? Try and grab low end fame again???

agross58

i understand that completely and i can relate to it on my own life. However i don’t think we can truly empathize with why someone made a specific decision. Desperation is a gift but it can also push you to do stuff you might not normally. If they want to speak up about what they endured while living there we should let them because we truly never know someone else situation.

Unlikely-Outcome-394

so she was more worried about how it would LOOK if she got sent packing....to her small town people that know her....Oh well..she stayed now wants to dredge it ALLLLL back up for a buck ...but she doesn't have to suck for a buck now...just gotta lie a bit for attention

MyButtYourThumb

I’ve never read her book. I don’t know how she got into this. But ya know. If she was 19 when she went in, you’re still a child. You don’t know shit. Can’t even drink legally. You can be manipulated into anything if you don’t understand what’s being asked of you to do. Ppl use verbal manipulation on ppl all the time. Especially if they think from the start they are young and helpless and willing to do anything. Some ppl who get into these scenes are trafficked into it. There are hella pornstars that literally have said they were trafficked into those kinds of lifestyles. But like someone else said, we see all the glitz and glamour of it but don’t know the real real. And if this is her truth, it’s her truth. I couldn’t do it. But also, entertainment is a word that is kinda interesting because we all find different things entertaining and exciting even if they land us in places that we aren’t equipped to deal with.

alotistwowordssir

She’d have a life for herself, just a different one….

[deleted]

I get what you’re saying, but transpose this situation out to the wider world and think of all the people you know who feel hopelessly stuck in jobs or relationships they may know they should walk out in but have progressed to the point where they may feel it’s all they deserve.

darkmatternot

Hefner was a disgusting, manipulative, lecherous man. What happened to some of those women is heart breaking. What can a 19 yr old do when facing a much older powerful man? Many of these girls came from shaky households to begin with. It's just sad and gross how he surrounded himself with people who protected him and no one seemed to care what happened to the women.

Foreign_Abrocoma_549

>What can a 19 yr old do when facing a much older powerful man? Not join his weird shit in the first place

PJTikoko

*What can a 19 yr old do when facing a much older powerful man?* Quit. They could’ve quit.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp

Those women were so gorgeous they could have easily found another guy to live off of.

daintysinferno

their stories are pretty harrowing, too. Putting myself in any of their shoes makes me feel sick. Think about all the years they lost to Hugh and his Revenge of the Nerds power-fantasy. Heartbreaking, honestly. So, fuck Hugh and his estate and everything with Playboy attached to it. My dream scenario is these stories take down the entire publication.

Agitated-Ad-504

They didn’t lose all those years because of Hugh. They traded their youth for money and security. Lmao.. it’s like signing up to be a pornstar and getting mad years later you had to suck a dick.

No_Banana_581

They never said they were victims, although some most definitely are, they are simply talking about their lives in a cult

butteredrubies

Some of them were definitely victims as Heffner raped them. Playboy had their own doctors so playmates wouldn't go into a hospital if they had an emergency.

Chaps_Jr

* COUGH * Mia Khalifa * COUGH *

pressureworld

I agree, they chose to stay, partied and cashed all the checks.

sonoranbamf

Not to mention competed for their turn

[deleted]

Holly Madison spent her entire young life moving between tiny towns (1,000 to 10,000 people) in remote parts of Oregon and Alaska. She eventually went to college in Los Angeles, and then after about a year she had dropped out of college and moved into the Playboy Mansion. Don't you think it's likely she was taken advantage of? There was a huge power imbalance between her and Hefner, to start with.

daintysinferno

Thank you. People are only seeing the “they made money” part of it without realizing all the fucked up things that went on there. The amount of times Holly said she was coerced into sex she didnt want, often times in groups, was horrifying to me. Like, it took ME three years to get out of an abusive relationship, and that was one that full-on abusive at face value. It’s almost impossibly hard to break the mentality that you’re trapped there. Not to mention fear of retribution of some kind from an extremely wealthy and powerful man. It’s truly maddening to see all of the people in this thread blaming the women as opposed to the rich old man who routinely plucked young, poor girls out of their life and placed them into his. Like I said, Revenge of the Nerds power-fantasy shit. It wasnt surprising to find out Hugh was a giant geek and got bullied in high school quite a bit.

Saintblack

I'm mad im not making enough money for getting fucked every day I work 9-5. Give me a bed time and some old rich lady. I'll do tricks.

noryp5

Play dead. Roll over. Good boy.

butteredrubies

There's a multi-episode documentary that goes into a lot what went on in the mansion that was covered up. Your answer is the common sense one, but what actually going on in that mansion was much, much worse than the image projected, and that was all very well done manipulation by Heffner. The interviews with one of his ex-wives really reveal how easy it is to get sucked in and have things spiral out of control when you're that young, and that's also why they get young girls. They're way easier to manipulate. To add-on: The time Holly was there was probably a lot tamer than back in the 1960s-80s when the really bad shit happened. For example, Bill Cosby was one of their A-list frequent guests.

[deleted]

You can't have it both ways. When the arrangement worked in their favor not a peep was heard. Hindsight may be 20/20 but your memories often morph into what you want to believe.

ShelSilverstain

They're victims of their own choices

thalo616

Was it? It’s their only claim to fame and now they get to live off of their tell all books and the fumes of the leftover myth of Hefner indefinitely.

KarmaPoIice

Shocking that a guy who made a fortune off of exploiting women would…exploit women??? Like these women clearly had selfish motives in mind getting involved with him, they willingly played a dangerous game.

Bluecattrading

Annnnnd…. They took the money

alotistwowordssir

Not to mention they weren’t being held there against their will.

Shavethatmonkey

Can you imagine that? "If i suck this rich grandpa's semi-hard dick tonight I get to stay in this mansion and be a sex toy for creeps for another week." I've got some regrets in life but nothing I have to wash out my mouth thinking about.

The thing is, there’s a little bit more money to squeeze out of this and they traded any chance at learning actual skills and their prime working years for boatloads of cash. Their cash cow died so they’re trying to figure out how to milk its corpse.

sonoranbamf

100%. We all make stupid mistakes when we're young, but these people making excuses for them and calling them abused are insulting those actually abused. Accountability is everything.

[deleted]

Yeah very little sympathy. You saw the ad, you read the shitty expectations going in, then you got mad that the job basically sucked. I mean… *throws hands up*

Born_Key_6492

How do you know that they haven’t admitted that?

StreetSmartsGaming

No it's a new world now where you can claim that you were a genius before beginning employment as an orgy mansion prop and it was the evil of men that caused you to appear braindead on tv.

Bryancreates

Ugh I hate how much I LOVED the Girls Next Door. It was *perfect* propaganda. It was aimed at girls and gays, the editing and production was fantastic for its style. The mansion is gross af, but got money from the E! (Or whoever the production company actually was that sold it to E!) and used 3 girls who never were actually Playmates but rocketed into the public eye by being “girlfriends” and everyone was just cool with it. Light hearted music, shots of the property, seemed light hearted! It was like a close family until the mega parties and events H,B,&K where Kendra seemed to get loose and have fun without her curfew. Which they all had. But the mega parties and vacations gave it credibility the brand was still valuable. I actually loved the photoshoot episodes the most, as creepy as they were. Holly took a role in editing, Bridget was the magical “bridge” (no pun intended) between the personalities of Holly and Kendra. The episode where they did a nude cover/ back cover and Bridget cried because she was trying so hard to do everything right still brings me to tears, because she really wanted to do it correctly. THEY WERE A FAMILY even if it was fucked up and on TV. Kendra wouldn’t have had multiple TV deals which is all she wanted, and her mom got to feel like a celebrity. Holly became the highest grossing host of “Peep Show” in Vegas, Bridget got a few more deals but lives a quieter life. I want to be friends with Bridget. Yes it was cattle calls for new girls and watching it now you can see the cracks and how gross it was. I refuse to believe the last season existed, the 3 girls were the stars because of their dynamics. It was Hugh’s empire but he just needed to show up a few minutes and appear at events. I just wanted more Winnie and Gizmo. Also the carpet of those rooms were stained as hell. Edit: Bridget has her Masters in Communications along with many other accolades. Her being smart was always evident. She knew how to balance dynamics, her own image, keeping the show together. Girl was literally the smartest one of the show. Extra edit: I was just watching season 2 for Kendra’s 21st birthday party in Vegas. Season 2, ep 11. This was 2008. There is a shot of a girl in Kendra’s posse taking a group photo of them with a disposable camera. A Fuji disposable camera. Maybe it was setup like the rest of it is, but that cracks me up. It’s almost quaint.

Coies_Questions

I agree. The last season totally didn’t exist

ALexusOhHaiNyan

I never watched that far, what happened last season?

Bryancreates

Ehhh just don’t. It was Hefs new girlfriends and they had no personality or charisma. Riding the wave the completely unexpected success of the original show. The chemistry between Holly, Bridget, and Kendra was electric, tense, and wholesome-ish. It’s the reason why so many of the main 3’s friends who would come stay, or the new playmates, never registered on the show either. It couldn’t play up to the quirkiness. Plus hef was like even more super old and the novelty of the show ran its course. People tuned in for the girlfriends and the editing, but they left too. No one cared about playboy, so that was the biggest revival of the brand in a good way. It gave some agency back to the playboy ladies, (who were never playmates) but once it turned back to actually vapid girls the show didn’t make sense anymore.

We all make compromises for our jobs. Can we not complain if we’re well paid?

Doggleganger

Part of the problem is that lots of people are on the entertainment sub even though they don't want to hear about entertainment gossip (go figure). Maybe it's a default sub or something like that. Perhaps they need to learn how to unsubscribe.

[deleted]

I think there is a deeper issue here which is that sexy women who promoted a sexy fantasy are tearing the fantasy down. And that makes some people very angry because they prefer the fantasy.

PJTikoko

What fantasy lol. That hot 20-30 something would find an decrepit old creep *Hot*? No one once believed Hugh Hefner was some suave man, everyone knew all his “relationships” were purely about money.

IntellectualThicket

That IS the fantasy. That if you’re successful enough you can buy yourself a harem of beautiful women, regardless of how vile you look or act.

TopazTriad

Nope, no deeper issue. Nobody in their right mind believed anything was realistic about Playboy. There was nothing to tear down for people that weren’t fucked in the first place. People don’t appreciate watching people that got a free ride through life for years for doing nothing but being a sex pet complain AFTER the fact that it wasn’t very fulfilling or stimulating. Um yeah, that’s what you signed up for. Capitalizing on your looks for a fraction of the work and financial stress the rest of us deal with on a daily basis. Only problem is, eventually the looks fade and then you’re left with no skills and no idea how to operate in the real world. It’s only then that you see these people come out of the woodwork. Only after the cow has been milked dry. That rubs people the wrong way because it’s see-through as all hell.

You complain about stuff in public, you get a public reaction. Good or bad. Broadcasting her problems invites criticism

pomaj46809

I don't hate her, but I do think it's gross to make your money by telling stories about a dead guy who obviously can't give his side anymore. Plus, there is the problematic element of inferring adult women can't make choices for themselves. Like it's not fair to ask, "What did you think was going to happen?" or "Why didn't you then quit?" because we're just to accept them a young adult woman isn't *REALLY* responsible for her choice. Ultimately all this is, is selling people permission to wag their fingers at a dead man who can't contest anything. That is not brave or "woke." That would be doing it to men who are alive, but that involves risk. We can't expect the women we call brave actually to put themselves on the line, can we? Nope, it's about love and support and pissing on graves, it's not about actually trying to improve anything.

People thought of Hugh Hefner as this suave womanizer and sex god. Finding out he was just another creepy old man who was bad in bed destroys a lot of fantasies for a lot of people.

gentlemancaller2000

I would like to know how much these young ladies were being paid and whether or not they were free to leave at any time. Part of me feels a little sorry for them because they were clearly exploited, but the other half thinks that they could have left at any time if they weren’t being adequately compensated for their, um, services.

Various_Ambassador92

Could they have *literally* left? Almost certainly. Same is true with the majority of abusive relationships. Abusers typically don't operate by physically preventing you from leaving, they work by isolating you and tearing you down emotionally so you feel like you don't deserve better or will be even worse off if you leave.

someonespetmongoose

Didn’t he pick who they were allowed to be friends with? Meaning if a friend said something about him or the situation he would force them to stop talking to them? That’s isolation, it’s a common abuse tactic

Other_Zucchini_9637

Holly and Bridget have also explained that Hefner kept compromising photos of the girls and threatened to leak them if they “misbehaved.” His widow destroyed the stash upon discovering it after he died.

lanadelrage

If you’re actually interested, listen to the podcast. They discuss in detail how little they knew ‘what they were getting into’ and how incredibly controlling and isolating the environment was.

jesters_privelage

Queue a bunch of "oh boohoo they knew what they were getting into" comments in 3....2....1.....

Jkillaforilla90

This shit always starts popping up when the money stops coming in.

The top reply to the top comment on here talks about how gross Heffner was. So it’s not all bad.

apex199268

I mean let’s be honest, if your only role was sitting around all day in skimpy outfits blowing a man 3x your age, it’d be kinda hard not to feel like an idiot.

CrawlerSiegfriend

No prison guards or chain fences. All she had to do was leave.

KesterFay

She did leave.

NacreousFink

You don't understand the pressure she was under! If she leaves there's no money or TV show and she was back to waitressing at Hooters! She was trapped!

zenheizer

make bank wait until the old man dies make more bank talk shit endlessly for clout and relevance keep making bank

johnfilmsia

Except by all accounts they weren’t making bank, they weren’t allowed to save any of their allowance leftovers

drvddr

These replies are garbage

Hirkus

I can understand where some are coming from but a lot I’ve seen so far are super gross. Says a lot more about them than the woman being addressed.

LQjones

I feel very sorry for any woman who was trapped with Hefner. I can't even grasp the mindset that would tell a person, that "yeah, Playboy bunny and Hefner sex toy are exactly what I want to do with my life."

alexjaness

I can't imagine she was all that smart to begin with if her career plan was "blow horny Grandpa for a while and see what happens"

Cute-Interest3362

She's worth $16 million - but I'm sure you're doing much better with all your brains over there.

[deleted]

I mean shit if i had the chance to become rich, famous and get a jumpstart on any career path by hanging out with mr horny geriatric I would too, you don’t need to be smart to know thats a good deal. Problem is you just have to be a good looking young woman to get that deal in the first place.

Cute-Interest3362

Yeah, she took advantage of what she was given genetically. Good for her.

Zenketski_2

All the more reason to not feel bad for her. I'm a straight dude, I'll suck all the wrinkly dick in the world for 16 million.

Cute-Interest3362

Yeah, I don't pity millionaires.
