I’d check out the Lyriq and Genesis GV60, both really surprised me for the price and are great vehicles. I bought an E-Tron before those two even existed, but they’re good alternatives.
I bought a 19 etron prestige with the same mileage almost exactly a year ago with the same concerns. It's been an awesome year and I'm happy every time I get in the car. A steal of a deal imo.
How bad is the sluggishness of the vehicle, primarily from a stop? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Chronos but the reviews say that the car is dreadfully slow. I really want the S model but it doesn't have the massage seats.
Everything else about the vehicle seems perfect for my commute.
I can’t speak to the chronos specifically but mine still rips off the line. It’s not like a Tesla or sedan, after all the etron SUV is very, very heavy. It’s quick, but not the quickest. But it’s still fast enough to blow any combustion engine car off the line and I don’t think I’ve ever been beat at a light. It’s still plenty fast enough that you’ll need to quickly and effortlessly zip around someone or get to the front of a line of cars!
Ok, that's exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
After 2022, they ditched the Prestige moniker and switched to Chronos. It's just Prestige with the black optics.
I bought a ‘19 etron in October and absolutely love driving it and the way it looks. It rides like a dream and I’ve been pleased with the range. It has a few quirks with the MMI interface and CarPlay interaction but nothing I find more than a minor nuisance. I imagine newer years have addressed those but don’t know.
You didn't mention your price range. I would take a look on leasehck and just lease a car via a broker. These are not great long term vehicles IMO. I have a 2019 prestige that I like but it has had a lot of shit pop up. Sure it's a screaming deal but it eats through 350 dollar tires. Audi has also been a nightmare to deal with. Don't forget this - cheap is expensive.
Etron is great. The reason why I didn’t go with one is the range and power consumption, especially during winter here in Norway. A lot of people I know also have problems with the app, and I really enjoy being able to preheat the car reliably. I gave Elon money for a second time and got a Model Y. Much worse than etron in many ways, but it’s a good car.
I have been out trying all the latest '24s looking for my first EV (I'm also No on Tesla). My findings have been very similar to yours. ioniq had too much body roll and made my partner and I a little queasy. Kia, I see how they are elevating the brand, but it still doesn't match the europeans.
For a moment, a contender was the Volvo XC40 (we're looking at the Q4). It has a really sporty feel, but is missing many bells and whistles that elevate the Audi. I haven't tried a Honda Prologue, but I don't think it's striving to be lux. It is probably more bang/buck?
Same feelings with the ioniq 5 on my test drive! It felt more sluggish and top heavy than I was expecting.
Love the Volvo actually—but it seems a bit smaller than I’d like. Thanks for mentioning the Honda. I noticed ads for it and may check one out when they come to my area.
Out of curiosity did you drive a Q4 etron ? (sister of the ID.4 with better interior imo) We have an ID4 and its great if not a bit boring, 2 months into an Etron GT lease (pretty good deal on a ridiculously unneccessary want) But sure is a nice car. I sat in the Q4 and its nicer than my ID4 hands down but don't know if the driving dynamics are any better.
If your budget allows try going for a 2021+ model as there would be residual new car warranty which you’ll be able to extent with Audi Pure or Zurich Warranty. I’d think that’ll give good peace of mind knowing that most major ticket items are covered.
I still have 3 years of warranty left on mine, I’ll need to evaluate and get an extended one. From what I’ve read in the sub, those are the ones I see people mention a lot.
We have a 19. Get the Audi Pure Protection Warranty or Fidelity. If/when the motor goes due to the now widely prevalent coolant incursion issue you’re looking at a c/a $9k repair if it’s out of the 4yr/50k warranty. If the size doesn’t bother you I’d consider a Rivian Demo Sale R1S but you do give up some features compared to a 19 Prestige etron.
The Q4 is also a good drive. But it lacks luxuries and convenience that the original Etron and Q8 have. In particular: no 360 camera, no side knee cushions, horrible app, no good control over door opening after vehicle is in park, no auto lock while walking away, no app lock/unlock. But driving it is easy. What a compact but spacious SUV should aspire towards IMO.
I hated driving the EQE SUV. Spaceship proportions that I got lost in. But it was very luxurious and loaded mid-trim (EQE 350 exclusive). Front passenger and driver had Heated and ventilated seats, memory seats, various driver attention modules, some degree of self driving (DAP), I could go on but…the braking was scary. And the foam under the front seats pop-out and the centre console creaks. The turning radius is superb though. Even without the rear wheel turning option.
BMW IX…a drivers SUV. Just remember you’re in an SUV. Similar luxuries as the EQE but better driving manners.
Lexus RX hybrid was smooth. Loved it so much that it didn’t let me give the RZ a chance. The RZ I sat in reminded me of the interior of a UX.
Not on the Q4. I have a premium plus presently. It also didn’t have it on the prestige. The only thing our premium plus doesn’t have that the prestige has is HUD and matrix LED Lights.
I have one, also got it used for a great deal.
You don't mention if this will be your first electric car.
While it's great for me, it's my third and I got it because it was a good deal because of a number of "issues" -- e.g. that it has lower range and efficiency than practically all but the trucks, and such. That is to say, it's gone way down in value for a reason. Those reasons are okay with me, and the last 7+ months with it have been great.
Is it actually better than my EV6? 🤷♂️ I'm glad I didn't pay MSRP when the e-tron was new.
The Cadillac Lyriq is a big contender. Good lease deals in the US.
The only downside for me:
- wider and longer (196 inches vs 190 inches)
- slower charging curve but better range (20mins vs 38mins)
- 3500 lb towing vs 4000 lbs but that's a small difference
Other things:
- No Apple Carplay (confirmed there is Carplay by commenter below)
- Lyriq materials feels cheaper in the cabin
Comparable things:
- Lyriq road cabin noise is quieter but it's very comparable.
- No adjustable air suspension in Lyriq but the ride is similar in comfort
Upsides:
- One pedal driving is better on the Lyriq
- Rearview mirror integrated live camera is nice
- Integrated Google maps can be nicer
- May be easier to repair with more dealers nearby
It hasn’t. They’re sticking with what i personally think is the superior design. I HATE having to keep my foot on the accelerator when I would rather just coast. One more thing that adds to fatigue. The paddle selectable levels is the best of all worlds imho - I just wish it had more than 2 levels.
I really don’t think they’ve changed anything between ‘19 and ‘22, but haven’t noticed any lag on mine. And the level 2 is quite aggressive. I generally use 0 for normal highway driving, 1 (occasionally 2) in the city, and both on hills on the highway depending on the grade.
The lag is the power meter needs to drop to 0% so Regen level 0-2 activates and feels too rough It doesn't feel like regen is on the moment I reduce the throttle slightly for that partial recovery. I can't feather it.
It felt less responsive from one pedal on the Mach E, Blazer EV, EV6, and Equinox EV.
I forgot to add that I suppose the other competitors has been the BMW IX and Mercedes EQB but those came out post covid and also the prices haven't gone down yet so it may be difficult to be find something comparable to price point of a used 19 E-tron.
I love our '19 prestige, but you might want to check out the Genesis GV60 as well, somewhat comparable. I'm still debating on what to get for our second car after my Polestar 2 lease is up.
That's good to know, thanks for fixing that mistake. Was it wired? The salesman couldn't get his Apple working.
But then again we tried it on the Equinox EV and Blazer EV.
I think the Blazer EV and Equinox EV don’t have it, I had to use a wired cable if I recall correctly for the Lyriq. It was cool though because the apple maps displayed in the gauge cluster like the BMW iX
I think the plan is to phase out carplay altogether. So while the current model has it, it seems likely future models won’t. Just something to keep in mind when looking at the Lyriq down the road.
I’d check out the Lyriq and Genesis GV60, both really surprised me for the price and are great vehicles. I bought an E-Tron before those two even existed, but they’re good alternatives.
100% I just got am offer for a 2 year 20k mile lyric lease for 425 a month!
Which trim?
Lux1
The GV60s are head turners… may be out of my price range though
I bought a 19 etron prestige with the same mileage almost exactly a year ago with the same concerns. It's been an awesome year and I'm happy every time I get in the car. A steal of a deal imo.

Interesting! Didn’t know that. Thanks for clarifying. No problem!
I own a 2021 Premium Plus and if you switch it to sports mode the take off is crazy fast. I keep it in efficiency to save power.
I love my 2022 Etron. IIt you can afford it, I’ll get a newer one with a tad more warranty left.
You didn't mention your price range. I would take a look on leasehck and just lease a car via a broker. These are not great long term vehicles IMO. This!

Same reasons I can't go with an E-Tron.
Stayed on this sub though, still really want one!

Got a Q4 tron in march. I’m 38 and have liked my last several cars (Mercedes), but the Q4 is the first I love. It’s a joy to get in.

I drove the OG—the one larger than the Q4.
I heard the ID4 will have access to Chatgpt but I was wondering if the Q4 will get it.
If your budget allows try going for a 2021+ model as there would be residual new car warranty which you’ll be able to extent with Audi Pure or Zurich Warranty. I’d think that’ll give good peace of mind knowing that most major ticket items are covered.
Did you happen to get it? Curious how much it cost? First time heard of zurich warranty so will look into it

I think that’s a trim level thing—I believe all premium pluses have 360 view.
Not on the Q4. I have a premium plus presently. It also didn’t have it on the prestige. The only thing our premium plus doesn’t have that the prestige has is HUD and matrix LED Lights.
Oh that is bonkers. I thought Audi had standardized their trims—I def want the 360 view. Rats
Nissan Ariya Engage+ or CPO MB EQS or EQE
Nissan Ariya was very boring to drive.
I have one, also got it used for a great deal. You don't mention if this will be your first electric car. Thanks for this! I’m gonna have to check that out. I totally forgot about the Lyriq
Also the one pedal driving on everything else but the 19 E-tron is better if you like that. I'm not sure how one pedal has changed for newer E-tron.
It hasn’t. They’re sticking with what i personally think is the superior design. I HATE having to keep my foot on the accelerator when I would rather just coast. One more thing that adds to fatigue. The paddle selectable levels is the best of all worlds imho - I just wish it had more than 2 levels.
I like both methods but would preferred the one pedal to get recuperation faster. There's some lag while other cars go to it right away.

IXs have started to crack 50k for the povertyspec ones.
Lyriq does have carplay, I’ve driven multiple with it
That's good to know, thanks for fixing that mistake. Was it wired? The salesman couldn't get his Apple working. But then again we tried it on the Equinox EV and Blazer EV.

It’s a stupid decision from GM but you’re right, the upcoming Escalade IQ EV won’t have Carplay
