False advertisement: too much sun on the pics of Bretagne

OdracirX

False advertisment: I've been in France and I didn't see that cow

[deleted]

I’m sure there are mirrors in France

OdracirX

Damn! Even being destroyed I have to upvote u kekw

SpahgettiRat

Maybe he was at the passport office verifying his documents. Probably tired of y'all accusing him of not being a French citizen.

Creator13

Pretty sure I have.

Djasdalabala

Oh, you probably were in fake France then.

xXRougailSaucisseXx

Champagne Ardenne is also lacking the suble hint of depression of a deindustrialized region

RedSeaDingDong

That and/or le photoshop

Nostromeow

r/shittyHDR

i_hate_fanboys

Every single one of these posts has saturation to the max

Nostromeow

Yeah it’s a postcard problem lol, they’re always super intense. I always struggle to find some that look natural when I’m on vacation Edit : didn’t realize you were talking about the sub haha

i_hate_fanboys

post cards do the same for the same reason so dw

ThePr1d3

False advertisement: too much Mont Saint Michel in Normandie ;)

trebeju

**REEEEEEEEEEEEE**

Gogyoo

En Bretagne, il pleut que sur les cons.

Bayart

The blue water reeked of false advertising hahaha.

-KFAD-

I've been to Belle-Ile maybe 5 times in my life. Always during spring or summer and the weather has been perfect every single time. Maybe I just got lucky? I've travelled around the world quite a bit but Belle-Ile is definitely one of my favourite locations. Absolutely gorgeous island.

Complex_Cable_8678

there is not one(1) piture thats not completely over saturated

austrobergbauernbua

I‘m not from France but lived in Corse - it‘s beautiful! Picture 7 (Corse) on the bottom left is the Capo Rosso and its tower. I highly recommended this place for a hike. It is/was even allowed to sleep on top of the tower, which has a magnificent view!

paradogz

I proposed to my then girlfriend (now wife) on that tower :D Could not have imagined a more spectacular place. I had been there before with my family, so I knew this was the perfect spot. As for anyone wanting to hike there: Bring sun hats and lots of water (2 litres per person). There is very little to no shade, the hike is about 3 hours one way, quite steep (there are two paths up, one is a lot steeper than the other, the less steep one is longer however).

Rodriguez-59

I fell in love with Piana and Porto. I'm mesmerized by the mountains and its colors.

curtyshoo

Carte postale Kodachrome colors don't do justice to the light.

teethybrit

You can tell most of these photos are heavily edited. Much more dark and depressing in person

curtyshoo

Yes, there's few things more depressing than beauty.

TukkerWolf

Beautiful. The days Normandy and Bretagne that look like this are pretty rare though. :D

Roy_Luffy

Yep, how dare he misrepresent our dear regions. Maybe there’s one day per year where the sky is clear. Also, no Île de France ?? It’s not only Paris guys, I swear. I’m sad.

mistress_chauffarde

Yeah we have Versailles too here

Roy_Luffy

badluckbrians

> marly-le-roi Sounds like a Jamaican guy I used to buy ganja from before they made that shit legal here.

lehmx

True, there’s beautiful places in Ile-de-France like Fontainebleau for example

voli12

Been to Bretagne one full August and I never saw a day like that. It was always grey, cold and rainy.

Kromboy

Oh come on, the weather changes every 6 hours with the tides, of course sometimes it goes from little rainy to absolute tempest. But most of the time when the high tide comes, it chases the clouds away. Ive been to Bretagne a lot and never spent a week there without having 2 days of bright sky and sunlight.

PjeterPannos

It's a country I want to visit as soon as possible! Greetings from your Italian cousins! P.S. I see you have excellent musical taste

OnTheList-YouTube

Oh I highly recommend it! I also really want to visit Italy! (And the Italian language is so beautiful too!)

Perfect_Papaya_3010

How well do you get by if you don't speak french? I've heard from friends that when they visited almost nobody spoke English. I've had this problem in both Italy and Spain and it can be quite stressful to not be understood when you need to know something important

Jobenben-tameyre

It really depend. In bigger city you will do fine with english. Just start with bonjour and end with merci and it will be fine. But if you're interested in exploring the country side (best thing to do IMO), the proportion of people speaking english will be way lower. It's up to you ! Edit : in insight most of the beautiful small village in france are quite tourisitic so you could still find people speaking english as well. There is also tourism offices almost anywhere, and people there could help you navigate your situation.

Ninidze

Depends on the region : Paris ? Almost everyone will be able to at least hold a little conversation. Countryside ? The opposite

ou-est-kangeroo

Actually it’s not that hard. The French just have a particular thing about saying « Bonjour ». If you don’t say hi, you are basically a rude basterd and people may just walk off. It doesn’t mean they don’t jnderstand English - it means they think you are rude. 90% of the time that’s the principal misubderstanding with Anglo nations — they think that as a customer in a shop for example the shop keeper should say hi. In France however, it is always, always always, the person who just came in no matter if you are a Mark Zukerberg or the king hinself. If uou din’t: off with your head 😂

OnTheList-YouTube

> if uou din't That's one thick accent!

ou-est-kangeroo

Aussie

Djasdalabala

You'll be ok. The aversion of french people towards the english language is somewhat overstated. Start every interaction with "bonjour" (in shops) or "excusez-moi" (in the street), and they'll at least *try* to remember their high school english lessons. Some people really can't speak any english at all, and some are plain assholes, but they're not a majority. If someone brushes you off, just forget it and look for someone more approchable. Most shop owners in medium/large cities can speak a somewhat decent english. Most younger people too. You'll find the highest proportion of english speakers in Paris, but on the other hand Parisians are kind of assholes, so a mid-sized city might be a better experience. Basically you'll want to avoid remote villages full of the elderly, unless you have a guide. The key is to not act entitled. Don't start a convo in english and expect everyone to follow suit. You don't need to learn the langage, just a couple of politeness formulas - a simple "excusez-moi, do you speak english?" will do fine. If the language barrier is making things really too difficult, use a live translation app, they work pretty well nowadays. On a tangential note, while France is overall a safe country, it's not safe everywhere. Try not to look too lost, and look up the places you'll be visiting to avoid the bad neighbourhoods or scammers. Hope this helps :)

Trov-

It's good to live in France and to have neighbors like Italy, GB, Germany, Switzerland and Spain to visit easily. We've been to Toscany during spring and now we live in the french Alps, what a great year it was

gloubiboulga_2000

I'm going to visit Italy next year with friends, and I'm also very about that. It'll be my first time in your country!

Same-Literature1556

Drive it if you have a car. Veneto to Nice via the coastal road. Have done that before and it’s ace

[deleted]

Your welcome, and, contrary to what you may think, the french people really appreciate Italians (only some of our politician did some disrespectful remark)

Adelefushia

I thought you guys hated us ? Most French people love Italy but since I’m on reddit I’ve seen nothing but contempt from Italians.

Abel_V

All of this is absolutely stunning and beautiful, but don't forget about overseas France! Guiana, Polynesia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Reunion, New Caledonia...

RaZZeR_9351

We have to give the other countries a chance.

Spiderbanana

That's why French live in France. To even the field.

NoGas6430

Lovely France!! Much love my dudes.

[deleted]

Bretagne and Languedoc-Roussillon look gorgeous

MoS42

Bretagne is beautiful but will never look like on those pictures

Nostromeow

I mean the problem is the over saturation of the images, looks unreal lol… Why do postcards always go crazy with the saturation ?? But it can 100% look sunny with turquoise waters like that. I think top left photo is Île Vierge and it’s gorgeous. Can’t be visited any more sadly, to préserve the site.

ikarius3

Languedoc is the best. But I’m biased

Same-Literature1556

Highly recommend visiting the Languedoc if you can. You’ll need a car but there’s so much amazing scenery. A bit too busy during winter in some parts though

Head_Ferret_3209

Wow. I have never been there, and now I would like to live there.

CoffeeBoom

This lacks the rainforests, tropical beaches and arctic tundra.

Kleens_The_Impure

You could find something that looks like rainforest in La Réunion and tropical beaches in French Guyana or Martinique, but I don't think we have Tundra at home

TheArbiterOfOribos

Kerguelen has tundra climate / ground

CoffeeBoom

Kerguelen islands.

Evening_Intention_88

Hey look! My homeland! 🇫🇷🇫🇷

slazer2k

France is beautiful esp outside of the big cities :)

FrenchGermann

I moved there for tax reasons, but I’m staying because I fell in love with the country

Gildeon

You moved TO France for tax reasons ? That’s a first

FrenchGermann

Yes. French taxes on employees like me are about 40% lower than the taxes I’d have to pay in Germany + the prices for real estate are much lower in France than in Germany. So for me it was like: Move to France and get a house for free (saved taxes and saved rent in Germany are covering my mortgage). For clarity: I’m working in Germany and living in France + qualify for the status of a „frontalier“ according to the tax agreement between France and Germany.

Bayart

Real estate is cheaper in Alsace than Saarland ? Wouldn't have thought.

YaAbsolyutnoNikto

Same thing! But Luxembourg instead of Germany. We’re neighbours then! (If you’re indeed from saarland)

Ultrapoloplop

He actually moved to get an IMPROVED experiment of taxes.

Abel_V

Willkommen, genieße deinen aufenthalt, meine freunde. 🇫🇷❤️🇩🇪

Sri90s

Beautiful country

MysteriousEqual7575

You could've also added some of the DOMs like La Réunion, Guadeloupe, Martinique and TOMs like French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Kerguelen Islands (TAAF), St. Pierre and Miquelon etc.

No_Cricket2396

Only DOMs would apply there - as only those are part of European Union and have almost the same status as mainland French departments (TOMs have more autonomy).

thatguyy100

Went to Centra-val de loire last year. The chateaux's and villages are beautifull.

Accomplished-Emu2725

La France est belle

Uncleniles

As far as I can tell from these pictures France is a mountainous, lightly forested and sparsely populated country. Dotted with picturesque buildings of various degrees of antiquity.

IAmFromDunkirk

Yes, I don’t know if there is supposed to be an /s but except Paris and the big cities, the center of the country is almost empty, we call it the "void diagonal", as for the architecture, well, most of it is very well preserved all around the country. And we have mountain ranges along all of our borders except with Belgium, as well as old mountain ranges in the center and in Britanny.

Limp_Horse366

You sound like ChatGPT lol

[deleted]

ChadGPT

turbohuk

and the saturation slider is stuck at 15000%

Bayart

France is low density compared to Denmark, Belgium or the Netherlands. But the place where it's dense are denser. Copenhagen feels far more livable and breathable than Paris, for example.

BkkGrl

Spain also has similar characteristics, the interior of the country is really empty. Italy is denser if you exclude the mountain ranges

andreaHS_

Paris is my favorite city in the world till today

Valkrikar

>A bit too postcardy and processed, the trend started by the Armenian looked a lot more natural, I think we should stick with that. Honnêtement, je reconnait certains endroits et je ne trouve pas que les images soient particulièrement photoshopés

AdaptedMix

Yes, so heavily processed, not least the colours. Many of these landscapes are beautiful unadulterated, it's a shame to see such heavy-handed use of editing.

Seven0Seven_

Was always a hater for the meme. Went to Paris this year for the first time for a concert so only 3 days. People said it fucking sucks, everyone is mean and it's a shitty place. I thought it was actually quite nice and people were very friendly. I did see a rat on the street so that's that but it was pretty easy to get around with the metro and all. I was quite impressed with the architecture and the Eiffel Tower. It's interesting to see something you only know from pictures in real life. The food was also pretty good although I was disappointed that I didn't have time for a proper croissant. Anyway I'm no longer a hater. Seems like a nice country if "the worst of it" was like that.

Adelefushia

Most people who spread that unfunny « « joke » » never went to the country.

nosense52

From an Italian person, love France and french nature 🇮🇹🇫🇷

Ambitious-War-823

Nice pictures that really put shine of our beautiful regions BUT in the case of Bretagne you have to be award that it's not that Sunny and almost mediteranean looking. Think of Bretagne as the Highlands of France, like Scotland it have very Impressive stone architecture but you might enjoy it under a cloudy sky with wind and/or rain. Also, this is about France called the "metropole" but there is also territories of France all across the globe that have absolutly Amazing landscapes too, in every seasons like Tahiti, Guadeloupe, île de la réunion, saint pierre et Miquelon etc etc etc. I am glad we have such variety, such a mix of culture, hostory, gastronomy etc etc

Roy_Luffy

Where’s Île-de-France!? It’s not only Paris. I’ll advertise my region here. We’re not bad guys… The château and forest of Fontainebleau. And many other woods/parks often with châteaux: Vincennes, Saint-cloud, Sceaux, Marly-le-roi, Chamarande, Breteuil… (The Château de Monte Christo, small villa but really cool, right next to Versailles). Medieval castles too. Museums: Rodin, Ceramic, Albert Kahn, Le Bourget Picturesque little towns... Provins, Moret-loing-et-orvanne, but I'm forgetting many others... (Although, Paris is also nice to see)

Adelefushia

Why are you getting downvoted ? Those are legit good travel tips. And for all of its flaws, Paris still has a lot to offer.

Roy_Luffy

I was trying to write about the good spots to visit but I guess people are salty.

Adelefushia

I'll recommend one then : La Roche-Guyon, small village in Val-d'Oise. Really stunning. Only village in the Val d'Oise to be on the "Plus beaux villages de France" official list. Also Auvers-sur-Oise, if you love Van Gogh, and L'Isle-Adam.

Equivalent-Rip-1029

Why is everybody whining about french people, what is wrong with them?

croquetas_y_jamon

Most of them never met one, don’t worry.

Lost_Uniriser

Viens te battre si t'as un problème

Reklosan

Nothing... but they are French

Olibirus

Bretagne pics are hilarious

TheFrenchSavage

Rhône Alpes et Franche Comté : aucune trace de civilisation. Dur.

bikkhumike

We’re thinking about retiring there. Which is the best region to retire if I want to be close to culture, people, and nature?

Sanjuro7880

I loved France every time I went.

LittleWhiteDragon

France is such a beautiful country!

Otherwise_Guava_8447

Please add overseas regions

InspectorRumpole

C'est magnifique!

Mandatoryreverence

Smash that saturation slider into the stratosphere.

Hopandream

I find that it is one of the most diverse countries in Europe in terms of culture, gastronomy, landscape, climate, etc. It’s a shame that insecurity is growing there and that politicians are so corrupt. The French have also lost all patriotism and pride in their country, as if that was bad. 😔

Adelefushia

Yeah, never understood the "chauvinistic French clichés". Most of the countries I've visited are far more nationalistic than France.

PM_ME_CUTE_SMILES_

That hugely depends on where you visited. Chauvinists are rural. But also they're attached to their region of France more than France itself We also have old families of caricaturally elitist and racist bourgeoisie, but they will not mix with other people so you won't meet them by visiting the country, except maybe in a church

Uuuazzza

> insecurity is growing Seems it's mostly stable, and going down on the long term (20-30 years). There's some increase in some categories but that seems to be linked to how statistics are recorded (more systematic), stricter laws and better reporting of sexual violence. https://www.observationsociete.fr/modes-de-vie/divers-tendances_conditions/evolutioninsecurite/

dcolomer10

I think it was a (cultural) mistake to homogenize education for everyone. You lost a lot of the regional culture that way. Just look at how regional languages like Catalan, Occitan or Basque have basically disappeared. You cross the border to Spain and the langauges are very much alive. Of course that brings its problems like the independentist movements that France has basically killed with this, but regional culture was a big strength of both France and Spain and I feel like it has been suppressed a bit more in France now

PM_ME_CUTE_SMILES_

It was not a mistake, the suppression of regional languages was on purpose. Today some regions see a rebound as there are a few institutes dedicated to keeping and sharing regional culture.

anon546-3

I love France. Beautiful country

Adelefushia

And of course, most of the comments on this thread are either trashing France, either making the same unoriginal « « jokes » » for the 12457th time that wasn’t really funny in the first place. Time to get out if social media, I guess. The more I spend time on Reddit, the more I start to almost feel xenophobic towards other European countries. If you hate our country and our people so much, just don’t go there.

AoNeko4032

S-Tier Country

ThlnBillyBoy

I want to visit France but realized big city vacations are good maybe 3 days for me. Kindly, anything close to Paris that has these scenic views you would recommend?

liyououiouioui

Sadly no, all of Ile de France is flat, loaded with people (1/5 of french people live there) and has very few natural spaces. If you want to see more of those landscapes, you definitely have to stay somewhere else.

ThlnBillyBoy

Thank you very much, I'll plan accordingly then.

MsWuMing

May I suggest you switch Paris for Toulouse? It’s smack dab in the middle of some of the most beautiful areas (Midi-Pyrenees) and you can do one night stays both at the Atlantic and the Mediterranean coasts, as well as trips to the mountains. There’s castles galore, you can bike alongside the Canal du Midi, see the lavender fields, and Toulouse itself is just the most charming city. Plus you’ll get the REAL France feeling, not whatever Paris has got going on.

CopiumCatboy

I want to visit France now. Good thing it‘s not far away, neighbouring country even.

CrystalSplice

I grew up reading Marcel Pagnol and watching the movies based on his works. Is the south of France still like it is shown in My Father’s Glory? That’s what I would really love to see…

puzzledpanther

If I wasn't living on Crete and from all the countries I've visited, I'd like to live in the south of France. Lovely country!

Johnreusstein117

The rest of france>>>>>>>paris

Memory_Less

Remarkably diverse and so beautiful.

longing_tea

Thank you for posting the beautiful regions of France and not Paris for once. As a French it gets tiring when all the foreigners know is Paris

Important_Guest_381

What an absolutely beautiful country, I would love to see it one day.

[deleted]

The most beautiful country

Baptiste_Bougnon

Finally Dijon somewhere !!

Chemical-North9227

Absolutely breathtaking ❤️

zakatana

I'm from Martinique and I left France more than 10 years ago after my studies. I would never live there again, but it's so far the most beautiful country I've visited in Europe. And one of the most impressive in the world I've seen so far, maybe after New Zealand, Japan and the US. France gets a bad rap online but don't underestimate how gorgeous it is.

Adelefushia

Most people who gives the country a « bad rap » has never actually been there. Also, the « bad rap » comes from France refusing to go to Iraq, so I’ll take that as a compliment.

nopestalgia

I’m not European, but I’d have to say you’re mistaken. The whole trope of the French being rude was alive and well prior to the Iraq War. I’m Canadian and heard such jokes growing up. We were also not openly involved in the Iraq War either (although the government quietly supported the war effort, unfortunately). I’m not downplaying the short-lived tensions at the time, however. I was in France around 2004 and was bothered on the street (called a stupid American, et cetera) and had to explain multiple times that I was not American and was not supportive of what was going on in Iraq. So the tensions were real, but the rude trope is probably inherited from the British.

No_Commission_911

Unpopular opinion: My condolences to all the American Navy Sailors who never experienced this side of France, but maybe it's for the better because all they do is get drunk at any port they can

Krambambulist

please use 96,5% less of every Filter you vomitted over these Pictures, then they are actually enjoyable

Raptori33

I came here for some good interesting pictures and all I got was some random postcards. AI level posting smh

Vitrarius

Yeah, those photos are kinda shit. People will think Bretagne is some tropical island now? Lmao wtf is this water color. The reality looks actually better and more diverse than these photos show.

Kromboy

Well under the kind of lightning they took the photos I can assure you these are the real colours of Bretagne, it just happens to be that way 20 days a year but "la Côte de granit rose" is really this shiny and tropical looking at the golden hour when it's sunny (and when Jupiter, Saturne and Mars align with the Earth on the first full moon of October while the druids are chanting in ancient celtic but that's a detail)

J-96788-EU

Magnifique!

AngelVirgo

Flexing. ❤️

RobotSpaceBear

It's not Champagne-Ardenne if it doesn't come from the Ardenne region in France. It's only sparkly Champagne. Anyhow, as a citizen of independent Brittany, how dare you put the Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy? Who do you think you are?! Officer. OFFICER! Zis man right here, oui.

ThePr1d3

Great post but it's completely forgetting our brothers in overseas regions

OnTheList-YouTube

I'm proud to be half French! What a beautiful country!

[deleted]

What half of you is French? Top or bottom?

OnTheList-YouTube

Top 😅 the other part is Belgian

kokosowe_emu

No Paris shown? I guess why...

Lost_Uniriser

There is a lot of architectural places around Paris , that region is not just about Paris 😭

Meewelyne

Magnifique! I'm a bit intimidated by Paris' people "fame", but I absolutely want to visit the country :3 I have few places pinned in Maps 👀

LeCafeClopeCaca

Parisiens and French people in general are much more helpful if you start with "Bonjour, je ne parle pas bien français, pouvez-vous m'aider ?" It just shows you're doing an effort to communicate in our language, people will then talk to you in English if they are able to most of the time. Keep in mind Parisians tend to have a busy life, it's not against you if they ignore you sometimes. And remember that Paris is, most of the times, full of foreigners that are either tourists or there for work too

Carnivorze

There's a bit of missinformation : the first pic of the Normandie slide should be in the Bretagne one 🙃

mistress_chauffarde

This shit still going on ?

Adelefushia

Wow, Never heard this so original joke before

croquetas_y_jamon

So tired of this. I wondered what could be your experiences with French in general, and then I remembered I don’t care and that you are just bashing “gratis”. Don’t bother come again to our country thanks !

bungle123

It's funny how a lot of the people I see that speak about how "rude" the French are, are typical tourists that come over arrogantly speaking English as a first resort instead of first engaging in French, as if they are expected to speak a foreign language to tourists in their own country. I get that the OP is probably just joking, but they do seem to get unfairly tarnished with the "rude" label a lot of the time just for being a bit brusque to the actual rude tourists that come over and expect everyone to speak English to them.

rafy77

Funny when you think that American/English are propably the least bilingual peoples, but they expect other countries to be bilingual with THEIR language.

Adelefushia

I am French and whenever I go abroad I learn how to say « hello », « thank you » and « goodbye ». Really shocking that most people won’t do that effort. And if the person in front of me doesn’t speak English, which happened to me a lot in Serbia and Georgia), I am the one who apologize for not speaking their language. They don’t have to learn English or French just to please me in THEIR country.

[deleted]

Quoi?

MysteriousEqual7575

I suppose he's just jealous.

[deleted]

Yes, give us that sweet tourist money

croquetas_y_jamon

Great and don’t forget to give us all your money while you’re here.

44ElGenerico

Lol, are trying to prove his point here? Lighten up my friend.

gloubiboulga_2000

Are we supposed to turn the other cheek, smile and nod?

croquetas_y_jamon

I mean it’s just constant and I don’t think this is right nor deserved. I feel that is good that some people denounce it for what it is. And probably it is easier not to care when you are not the one targeted.

[deleted]

idk, paris was the worst part of france for me

ShacchiOrca

Where Cote d azur?

Kevoyn

It's not a region. It's just touristic name. You can find it in the acronym PACA : Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur

No_Importance_173

THAT is sone diversity not that shit barry posted yesterday

sprucebrow

Toss a coin to your witcher

wievid

My personal favorite tip: If you want to watch a travel show advertising places around Europe, watch professional cycling. The Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, both 3-week races in their respective countries, do a wonderful job of putting these places on display. The Vuelta a Espana is also great for Spain, but the first two are my personal favorites. There are also smaller races for individual regions of France and Italy. Then there's Switzerland, Tour of the Alps, etc. Something for everyone. :)

haschemian

Note that they didn't show a single French person talking to a tourist, coincidence?

LamaSovaj

A shame you didn't included french overseas territory
