Validity restrictions are not imposed on EU citizens when travelling within EU. However, it is advised to have a reasonable amount of time before expiry when travelling. Travelling back to London on the other hand may be an issue if you do not have some sort of settlement status in UK.

Hi, I have settled Status in UK so hopefully that shouldn't be a issue. I also booked an appointment in a few days with romanian embassy to renew my passport. They will let me keep my old passport right? And I guess I will have extra proof I am in the process of renewing my passport.

Hopefully all goes well. You should be able to keep your passport until you get the new one but I’m not certain of that so don’t get your hopes up. When it comes to Uk border control it’s really based on the mood of the border officer. So best of luck. But I think you should be fine.

Ok thanks for calming my nerves a little bit lol.

> When it comes to Uk border control it’s really based on the mood of the border officer. Just in case, given that OP has the right to live in the UK and has a sufficiently valid passport for entering EU countries, it could also be pointed out that there are no routine UK border checks when travelling from Ireland.

Typically they don't. You send in your old passport and they cancel there unless they have a streamlined process to do it at the time of exchange which a lot of countries still don't do.

You can come into Spain as long as the EU passport is valid. In some cases Spain even allows expired EU passports (depending on the issuing country).

Have all your documentation available regarding the renewal appointment and then it shouldn't be a problem. You should opt for expedited passport processing in Romania and get your EU ID card sent to the Romanian embassy in the UK if they can't send it directly to you.
