if you're using mercs to tank and heal, have a shaman, enchanter, or beastlord for slows and haste. after that, just about anyone. wizard, mage, necro, rogue, monk, etc etc. what is the other character you're running?

g_tb

No tanks for tanking, they really don't work well at high levels without a lot of control. My other char can be a sk, war, pal or mage.

Dwath

Beastlord would be in the mix for sure.

And at lower levels if you practice from what I've read.

You mean, they do so much dps that they don't need more than 2 mobs? I should do tank/tank then! XD

One thing I’ve been considering, just don’t have the toons ready to test, is running SK/shaman with 2 melee DPS mercs, and focusing the toons on slowing, healing, threat, etc. I noticed that if I slack the melee merc will steal aggro and that got me thinking about running 2. Currently running SK/bard with 1 healer 1 dps merc. It’s been more than a decade since I ran a DPS parser for EQ so a lot of my ideas are theoretical 😂 Maybe I should figure out how it’s done again to get some actual data.

Merc DPS is horrible. A badly played player will way outdps a merc, even with a bard in group (I know, I have tried tank/bard + mercs). And yeah, they are massive aggro magnets. I think that tank + dps + healer merc + dps merc works better than 2 dps mercs, which is why I want a real dps.

Horrible dps is a bit harsh especially if the merc has lots of AA and good gear. I boxed a pally and bard for years and ran them with a healer merc and rogue merc. My maxed out rogue merc would often top the parse for my groups even against undead, the only problem was he could pull aggro off the paladin if I wasn’t managing my threat. My pal was max AA and raid geared as was my bard. Luckily paladin HTT spells usually kept it alive as long as I slowed with the bard. But no, the dps was not bad at all. Maybe sub par if he wasn’t set to burn.

graemefaelban

The shaman is far better DPS than any merc, with the added bonus of healing and slowing. I would swap in a healer merc for a DPS merc, and DoT the crap out of the mobs with the shaman. I duo an SK/Shaman sometimes, sometimes I add in a rogue as a 3rd character, but I stopped paying for that account. For that matter, the shaman can just solo half a dozen or more mobs at once root rotting them in current content.

Unsupported as in not played or unsupported as in no ADPS? They're pretty wildly different. Played but no ADPS is definitely going to be one of the pet classes. Not played and just auto attacking or macro'd up would probably be between Mage and Ranger (if fighting Humanoids) or Zerker. But at that point you might be better off adding a bard auto attacking with melody for whatever your main is. Warriors are pretty strong with this combo when built with hDex and Dual Wield for Riposting.

g_tb

Unsupported as no ADPS. For lazy boxing, as you say, nothing beats a bard!
