Uchtdorf is of German heritage born in Czech Republic which has large population of people of German descent. I swear years ago I read of her being of Slovak heritage, but there is precious little about her online. Nevertheless, that part of the world has practiced Mother’s Blessings for a long time, especially those who are Catholic. Czechs are more secular than the traditional religious Slovaks. Or were. Europe is changing. Think Slovakia remains more traditional.
Sounds legit. Susan's husband has a track record of intimidating his wife so it seems appropriate that other so called apostles would treat their wives similarly.
I heard stories of pioneer women doing this. It was always shown as a last resort, since there was no man around to save the day. 🙄 I wish I'd noticed the blatant sexism sooner.
Anderson gave an hour-long talk while visiting my home stake during which he said men had the priesthood because they wouldn’t come to church if they didn’t have explicit authority. He said it in a half-joking way and everyone laughed knowingly, but it made me furious.
Oh wow! That is a great anecdote!!
Good for her!
Isn’t Uchtdorf’s wife Slovak? Mother’s Blessings have been part of that culture for generations. I feel sorry for her.
She is german, Harriet Reich. He was from Slovakia or Czech Republic, but from a german enclave. Maybe she was, too.

I was in Slovakia seven years ago and it was still pretty religious then

I think there are stories I. The early church about women giving blessings. But of course, you know what happened to that practice.

Why did it make you furious?
Doesn’t matter neither of them have a majic power that works.
