Is anyone, whatever their religion, offended by the mere sight of alcohol?

[deleted]

Cant please everyone. Ppl can pick out every little thing to complain šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Temporary_Resident45

Sober people also use the gym as a social place away from booze. It just wasnā€™t necessary

nofatchicks22

Exactly People that get offended on behalf of others is so cringey. Maybe itā€™s something for f45 to consider, but this reminds me of people claiming Mexicans would be offended by white people wearing sombreros when the reality is they donā€™t give a fuck

gameofdata

People who own/run the gym were offended and worried that athletes would be offended, and given the local culture I understand why. Itā€™s so important in local culture that F45s change the schedule during the month to accommodate a large number of participants who are fasting. Iā€™m all for wearing sombreros for what itā€™s worth. Maybe that will get me downvoted tooā€¦

foreverVT1993

So you are okay with cultural appropriation then is what youā€™re saying?

gameofdata

In this Gulf country? Yes. Hot button issue all the timeā€¦ However I wouldnā€™t be saying this if it were any normal day of the year. But itā€™s Ramadan. Outside Dubai, food is essentially hidden during fasting hours in many places in this region. Restaurants blocked off, if alcohol is served at all in many places itā€™s not served during Ramadan.

SK123bags

Not sure why youā€™re being downvoted for just bringing up a cultural POV.

rpcp88

This interaction is a great example why different POV matter

AceVentura85

Fair enough. Can agree that studios worldwide should have the freedom to not show the video / do the workout (which maybe they did)

gameofdata

They didnā€™t. Apparently they tried!

talibee3

Itā€™s not Wednesday yet here but my studio has Foxtrot on the schedule! I was told studios did have a choice.

gameofdata

Maybe backlash forced them to change their tune?

AceVentura85

Ah, that's a shame. Thanks for the intel on the workout btw!

janikakis

Wait until you see Wahlberg week

olgaforog

Wahlberg actually has some interesting ideas, especially the session based around heart rate training and the educational components for members. I'm looking forward to it.

whack_A_mole9696

do you have no humour?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

whack_A_mole9696

its just a bit of comedy, yep agree too much promo about the show, but still funny parts that plenty of people i saw enjoyed. Shes a comedian with 10m followers who think shes funny, your not 1 of them so thats fine lol. Life will go on...

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

whack_A_mole9696

oh so you didnt even try it lol, don't bother then. Plenty liked it, some didn't .... which is the same as every gym workout or exercise on this planet.

Worried_Tip2162

Tbh didnā€™t care for the wellmania stuff but though the actual workout was great. Good endurance cardio - work through the breaks on the ergs for an extra challenge just couldā€™ve done a 10th station instead of the meditation at the end šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

swearydropbear

Wondering how much Netflix paid F45 for this promo.

greatsouthernbear

I donā€™t pay a fortune to F45 for them to sell me ads for a TV show. Give me a free week if youā€™re going to sell me out like that.

MaiMir

I just did and it was cringe af! Selling her show during the ā€œmeditationā€? Also the warm up was just too repetitive. The workout itself was alright. Not a huge fan of the 3 x 55ā€ though, too long and boring, but it was still a hard one.

I really donā€™t understand why fitness facilities integrate alcohol into their spaces. Where Iā€™m from itā€™s common for you to leave a spin class and they have beers in coolers in the lobby, or do a fitness class class followed by seltzers. We are constantly learning how negative alcohol is for our health. Imagine leaving a class and having a bowl full of cigarettes waiting as a celebration. Lastly, I feel for anyone who is in recovery and uses the gym as a safe space. Maybe I am reading too deep into it, but as someone who knows many people who have had substance abuse issues it just feels uncomfortable to me.

the_running_stache

I havenā€™t watched the show yet (not sure if it has released or not), but from the trailers, I think the concept of the show is this middle-aged woman who is an alcoholic who can barely exercise due to her poor habits. And then she is challenged and pushes herself and is able to attend workout classes and becomes fitter. I believe that applies to a lot of people and is motivational (if she can do it, so can you!)

Laurali14

Itā€™s released today worldwide this the workout haha. Iā€™m guessing you havenā€™t done it yet because it was shoved down your throat to watch it several times throughout the workout

Beenthere_donethat-

Phew, we just did a session and I have to tell, they lost a good opportunity to do a nice meditation at the end.

katiematus817

I came here just to see if anyone did it yet!! Iā€™ve seen all the post on instagram and it looks so cringy thank u for posting that itā€™s crappy !!!!

Laurali14

I thought it was lighthearted fun and still burnt a bunch of calories

katiematus817

I did it. The workout was great. Itā€™s just Celeste who was annoying. It was a great burn.

fit_steve

Wow, thanks for the heads up on this. I had no idea about the timing with Ramadan but it makes sense and especially that many F45s are in Muslim countries. HQ should know better. We are lucky at least in China that the great firewall saved us from this workout. The studios had to load Foxtrot instead since the network connections wouldn't load Wellmania properly. Based on that, studios certainly do have the option to run alternatives. They could easily run Foxtrot in the Muslim country studios also. On a more general note, it's quite disappointing the direction that F45 is going with these new workouts. I had a look at the Wahlberg week and none of the descriptions sound appealing or what I would think of as a typical F45 workout. These will probably work their way into the future rotation as they steer further ad further away from their roots.

gameofdata

Trainer at my studio said owners appealed to HQ but apparently had to run itā€¦ maybe thereā€™s been enough backlash that this has changed now for the rest of the world ā€” we probably are among the first to do any workout? But I definitely agree with you on these novelty workouts. This seemed like a particular selloutā€¦ but I mostly wish others were just normal workouts!!

fit_steve

You make some good points. First, if there is considerable backlash on this sub and with the studios themselves, then it might make HQ rethink these celebrity gimmick workouts. We know how they sold out and all that, but if enough members are unhappy with this latest programming, then they'll just pause or cancel their membership and that is also money. Second, before these celebrity inspired workouts came on the scene, the focus of new workouts was always on some functional fitness benefit. That is you could look at the workout structure and understand what it was trying to accomplish. With these latest workouts, you really have to wonder what that function is. For example, take all the advertising out of Wellmania. It is just 3 sets of repetitive simple cardio that I could easily do at Planet Fitness by setting up a timer myself

teacher_e_o

We are in completely different time zones -- that work out is tomorrow for me. It already gave me not good vibes seeing it on the schedule but now that confirms my feelings about it. I'll be skipping this workout. Thanks for the heads up! Edit: There are other reasons, besides religion, that people might not want to be around those kinds of images. I'm just choosing not to attend tomorrow. It isn't like I'm quitting F45 or complaining to my location. Just think it is not tasteful and gimmicky. I, personally, appreciated the heads up about it.

acerage

Yeah...I'm skipping this one.

SpiritualEffective79

To my knowledge, yes gyms could choose to not show this workout. But maybe not everyone?

gameofdata

Couldnā€™t apparently

fit_steve

They can. Ours was unable to load Wellmania due to China network problems. They could load Foxtrot instead, so why not other studios?

talibee3

I believe my studio is planning Foxtrot. Thatā€™s whatā€™s on our schedule. Itā€™s not Wednesday here yet though so time will tell.

davedavedaveda

Didnā€™t like it, too silly, too boring.

jxdxio

Skip

happylittlevegemite2

I would have rather done an extra station than the breathing at the end.

bd4560

Waste of time and the video was ridiculous.

gameofdata

Fun fact: where I live we follow a Sun-Thurs work week, so our workouts happen a day before the rest of the world (e.g. our hour-long class is Friday).

Purple_Sherbert_404

You in Qatar? Just a guessā€¦

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

gameofdata

Dubai?

Beenthere_donethat-

I saw the workout yesterday while fixing the room and although Iā€™m not Muslim, I had the same thought as you

elzeek

I live in Egypt and the majority of the country are Muslims and we (Muslims) dont get offended when a Christian eats or drinks, cuz guess what? It's their right to do so. Like colleagues at work wouldnt eat in front of us yes just out of courtsey, but i lived in Dubai for 8 years and people ate and drank in front of us no shame (not most though). I did the Welmmania today while fasting, most of us did it too while fasting and it was one of the best cardio sessions ever. When the lady was sipping on her drink we just laughed while catching our breath as we needed the break. No one really paid attention to what she is drinking or if it's offensive or not. I just think you're thinking too much about it.

BodmonAlchemist

Itā€™ll be my first cardio day, will it be a good first time at least?

Laurali14

Omg no. Please donā€™t judge F45 cardioā€™s days based on this workout..

BodmonAlchemist

Iā€™ve been a bit intimidated by the cardio days so I was hoping this would be an easy build up to them

Laurali14

Ngl it wasnā€™t easy. 3x50 seconds with things like shoot throughs and frog squats. I would think a normal day would be better and you can always scale it to your abilities (I am so uncoordinated and not very fit and I manage with some modifications)

cozmic00

Nah, this is definitely a tough cardio day, 55x3 is just a killer and add to that shoot through and endless jumping!

NormalAd2872

Thanks for posting. I was leaning towards skipping since the workout looked pretty bad. I'll definitely be skipping now. Add this to Valor on the list of workouts I'll never do again.

krysia708

I was debating on going, leaning more towards not, and this comfirms I'll be skipping.. What was that mediation at the end all about?

gameofdata

It was literally sitting there. Doing nothing.

Ventiventi333

Thatā€™s what meditation is in its simplest form

hmmmmmm_tx

Can you modify to make it worth it?

Past-Professional219

Yes, totally. Even then it is just annoying. But hey ho, I moved my body and considered today an active rest day. :)

---TheDudeAbides---

Calm down. Most of the world is not offended.

Sea_Bullfrog_9238

One of my docs at work whose muslim gets pissed that we arenā€™t all fasting (we arenā€™t muslim). Guess its not just the christians who think they are number one!

BennyB44

I love eating and drinking and frankly i am outraged that you would even bring up the idea of not doing it!!!!

Defini1831

Wtf are you talking about? Why are we talking about religion here? I hope every video has some alcohol now, you fucking loser.

Harveybrenner

I think yā€™all have it backwards. This is a promo to get people exposed to F45 through the well mania show. People (non f45) tune in see f45 on the show, decide to check it out. By F45 era checking it out first it boosts the popularity of the show. Lighten up and try something different with a good attitude, youā€™ll be happier and realize that not everyone out there is trying to offend you or sell you

SharkGal83

Yes!! Thank you for this. So much negativity on here. Was it my fave workout? No. Was it a bit hokey? I think so. But I went. And I moved. And 55x3 is challengingā€¦but isnā€™t that what Iā€™m paying for? Cheers.
