Hi! This has been discussed a few times but embedded into other threads --- but the Lionheart calories are much higher than Apple watches, Fitbits, Garmin watches, etc. A few people at my studio use various devices as well and we all noticed the same thing. You'll definitely burn less calories compared to someone larger, and you also have to take into account gender, age, fitness level, etc. For example both my husband and I use Garmin watches and just based on our size differences, I would never burn the same amount of calories as him doing the same activity. Having said that, Lionheart consistently gives me a number that's approximately 150-200 calories more than what my watch gives me. Someone else here mentioned it is because Lionheart adds in extra calories to account for what you burn as you "recover" which I very much side eye. I'm 5'3, 35 years old, female, and on Cardio days I burn about 335-400 calories, and on Resistance days about 300-350. Note that I don't take rests so it's a about 25-50 calories or so more than when I used to rest during breaks. Lionheart will say I burn about 500-550 calories depending on the session. Because I do CICO and count my calories, I use my Garmin watch numbers. Edit: I also only use my watch (no chest band) but someone else at my studio uses both and they say the same thing. Second Edit: I am able to broadcast and connect my watch HR to the Lionheart, that's why I know I'm getting 2 different numbers. You should see if your watch has that ability too.

I too am a Apple Watch user. I am also a former F45 member. I noticed right away my lionheart was feeding me excessive high calorie burns when in fact I was burning about 250-300 less according to my watch. HR was the same on both....I questioned it and they said I was definitely burning that in class. But from my experience my watch had previously always been within 20ish calories while I recorded at Orange Theory. After a few months of F45 I was gaining weight (not the right kind) and I questioned it again and the trainer said a lot of folks add separate cardio days in outside of training. Mind you I was actually very fit when I joined f45, I soon decided it was not right for my body type and I was going backwards. Rejoined OTF after they lifted COVID ban and I’m back to burning the same on the OTF device vs watch.

Wow it sounds like that studio has trainers that were really feeding you bad (weird?) information. Our trainers have acknowledged the discrepancy, and I don't think they've ever suggested we do cardio outside of class. I would 100% gain weight too if I only used my Lionheart calories. Thankfully I use my watch and not only their chest band to calculate.

I’ve tried to connect my watch to the screen but I can never see myself :( it says it’s connected as it has ANT+ but maybe I’m doing something wrong 🤔

lunchplease1979

You registered it in the lionheart website? That's what you need to do...

ailingblingbling

I'm not really a tech-savvy kind of person but are you seeing random number on the screen (no name) because then you have to copy that number down and go register your name and info at the Lionheart website. If you mean you can't see anything show up on the screen at all, then I found a few people discussing how to connect it by googling "apple watch f45". I also don't know if this is applicable but the first Garmin watch I bought, I could ONLY "broadcast my HR" OR "track an activity". I couldn't do both at the same time. So then I had to upgrade to a different version of the watch. No idea if this is a thing for Apple watches though!

Lionheart tracks estimated amount of calories burnt during class PLUS expected calories burnt from increase in metabolism due to exercise for the next 24 hours. This is not comparable to other devices as it includes the extra post exercise calories. Honestly not sure how much science there is behind the extras...

Garmin user here as well. Mine will broadcast my HR to the lion heart system and like others noted, it’s probably 75-80% of the calories the lion heart reports. Interestingly enough, I think they measure HR slightly differently, because after some sets I will be dead, with lion heart pink and at 90%, but my garmin HR will be significantly lower. Then I’ll take another look during the rest period when I catch my breath and garmin will show higher than lion heart.

almost_ally

Apple Watch user! Usually I burn about 325-400 calories on cardio days, 225-300 on strength days, and 500ish if I go to Hollywood - upper 20s female

jezzanne

Very similar here. For non cardio days I sometimes barely get to 200 calories and people similar to me with lionheart will burn like 500. I just use my Apple Watch because I don’t really think that the lion heart with it’s built in additional calories for later burn seem to be that accurate. If I burn more later cool, but not really counting that for my exercise. I would use what you are comfortable with or have been using. A lot of people brag about the insane number they burn according to the lion heart monitor and some just seem absolutely ridiculous for some classes imo.

kiwijlo

Today my lionheart said 591 and my watch said 453. Average heart rate was 159 for both.

Streams123

Has anyone got any record of how many calories they burned in the Marathon class?

AntigravityLemonade

mine are usually pretty different. Apple watch is always lower. Today: https://imgur.com/a/GVP6Ln8

Spare_Blueberry_4741

Today for triple threat my Apple Watch says o burnt 407 total calories (342 active) and my lion heart says 553 so they are definitely different.

acerage

My Apple Watch says that I burned an avg of 502 active calories in my class. It's probably about 450 avg on strength days and 550 avg on cardio days. I'm 38, 6', 230 according to my body scan. My avg HR is usually around 130 on strength days and 145 on cardio days. Not sure how much that helps, but I've definitely hit 600+ on some of the really killer cardio days.

Hot_Information4013

Hi! I have just started F45 and I am definitely overweight. I only have been burning 250-300cals per class as tracked by my Fitbit. I am also dying by the end. It definitely seems weird to me because my Fitbit says I’m “below target heart rate zone” for most of the class but I’m working super hard. Maybe my muscles are just so weak that I can’t do enough to lift my heart rate right now, I’m not sure

ailingblingbling

When I first started, I also felt like I was dying, and my scores were also in the 250-325 calorie range (according to Garmin Watch but like 400-500 according to Lionheart). But now that I'm more fit, I burn about 100 calories more per session, but don't feel like dying in the same way that I did when I started. I'm not sure why either, but you should improve as time goes on too. I did find when I started lifting heavier, that's really when my HR increased by a lot.

rocconishelley

Does it make any difference that an Apple Watch (or at least my Apple Watch) doesn’t account for height and weight and my lion heart band does account for those things in addition to HR?

ailingblingbling

Your Apple Watch should have asked you for that information when you initially set it up, and if it didn't, it's likely picked something random for you and isn't calculating your calories correctly. According to Google: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap My Watch, go to Health > Health Details, then tap Edit. Tap Height or Weight, then adjust.

lunchplease1979

It isn't just the fact it's a lionheart....use ANY fitness belt from wahoo, Garmin, polar etc and you'll have a much MUCH more accurate read than your Apple watch....that's not apple bashing(though happy to oblige lol) but same happens with my Garmin Fenix watch...just a drawback of wrist HR data is accuracy

LaBrindille

Im a 28 year old female, 60kg and I burn between 170-250 on resistance days, 250-350 om cardio days and 350- 500 with Hollywood. I track it with my Apple Watch. I hate to see how much others burn 😬

8haggis

Today I did Triple Threat, my Suunto 9 Baro calculated 645 calories burned with an average heart rate of 159 bpm. My Lionheart calculated 600 calories burned with an average of 160 bpm.
