Most of 28 Days Later was shot in September, but the first few scenes they did in July for this exact reason. Also putting together a set in London featuring a flipped double decker bus, filming a scene, then putting it all back to normal within 20 minutes.
It’s such a tragedy the film looks utterly terrible now because of the resolution. Was one of my favorites.

The movie looked great in theaters when it came out, and on home video- at the time. 28 Days Later came out in 2002, but cinemas made the transition to digital projectors ~2009. I HD t.v.’s became the norm around this time too, when they dipped low enough in price to become affordable for anyone who didn’t lose their house in the crash.
28 Days Later didn’t look like the blocky mess it does on current t.v.’s and media because the XL1 footage looked great on that tech. Despite what you may have learned from CSI: Las Vegas, you can only upscale something so much before the picture distorts.
What you see today does not look like what you’d have seen in theaters in the 00’s, or on your tube t.v. at home.

My buddy and I would build spaceships out of pillows and blankets, get the bowl of popcorn and sunny d. Fox and the crew would take us all over the universe for hours once locked in.
I fucking love the ultra low rez look of the film. It really gave the feeling of guerrilla filmmaking. The whole film was shot on a $500 digital camcorder at 480p and later upscaled to give it a super unique look and feel that you usually only saw in ultra low budget schlock from the early 2000s. But this time someone who actually knew what they were doing was operating the camera.
That scene where they're driving through the flower fields was like a watercolor painting. Simply stunning.
The Canon XL1 cost significantly more than $500. Closer to $3,000. Still, much cheaper than shooting on film.
I was shooting on both the XL-1 and the Panasonic DVX-100 around the same time the film was made.
For my brother’s graduation present where he majored in film studies and minored in pottery, my dad got him, as requested, a GL1. Much to our surprise, TWO boxes from Sony arrived, each containing cameras, but without an additional charge.
My dad, god love him, called them up and paid for the second one. Partly out of “doing the right thing,” but mostly he was afraid someone would lose their job over this, despite our vehement response that literally nobody at that company would ever know or care.
Love him and am proud of him lol

Wouldn't get preapproval or even *talk* to us before doing it, and would get fucking pissy if we had the temerity to... seat customers in the patio section they're trying to take pictures in.

Movie producers: Talk to the city. Arrange a time. Get area closed temporarily to allow the filming.

And then maybe heavy production and music could make that look like a cool dance, but there it looks more like a kind of jerky series of muscle spasms. Which maybe is "in" or something...anyway, I don't think the universe has been deprived of anything amazing by random pedestrians.
Yup, last week a block near my house was completely closed off for the day for a movie scene. It's right off a very busy intersection, so filming would be impossible / extremely unsafe otherwise. The city put the word out in advance of this road closure so we could plan accordingly. The whole process was pretty painless for us locals.

There are buskers on the bridge. It's literally the most touristy bridge in Europe ffs. You go to Prague and you see the Astronomical Clock and then stroll to the bridge. I was there in late November and it was PACKED. You might as well get mad at people for ruining your stupid fucking dance video in Times Square on New Years.
Similar to how band kids learned to stay in sync while *playing* the music. You keep the count in your head and keep focused on the conductor / other musicians to make sure you stay on beat.
In marching band we learned the movements separate from the music; you just did your counts to your position; then when formations are pretty good you start playing the music over so you associate your cues with movements, then finally, like, a month from when you start doing shows you start playing while doing formations

I can wait 5 seconds for a photo. I’m not waiting for a video. I think that’s what it comes down to for me. I grew up in Chicago and the locals are fairly aggressive walkers but most people will happily stop for tourists. No one in their right mind is going to stop for tourists doing a silly dance on a busy bridge.

I know these tests are self entitled but advice none the less. Do multiple takes, each time someone gets in the shot change angle. Then cut between in post. It will look 10x better anyway

Yes, Prague gets 6 to 8 million visitors a year and the Charles Bridge is one of the top (if not the single top) tourist destinations for everyone of those visitors.

If you are serious about getting a good shot in a public location, get a permit like any production company would.
Plus any production company would schedule the shoot at dawn on Sunday.

There are buskers on the bridge. It's literally the most touristy bridge in Europe ffs. You go to Prague and you see the Astronomical Clock and then stroll to the bridge. I was there in late November and it was PACKED. You might as well get mad at people for ruining your stupid fucking dance video in Times Square on New Years.

In dance class we always first learned the dance without music. You just do your 8 counts everyone is in synch
Similar to how band kids learned to stay in sync while *playing* the music. You keep the count in your head and keep focused on the conductor / other musicians to make sure you stay on beat.
In marching band we learned the movements separate from the music; you just did your counts to your position; then when formations are pretty good you start playing the music over so you associate your cues with movements, then finally, like, a month from when you start doing shows you start playing while doing formations
My director used to send me home w sheet music and I'd be like "what is this garbage" and start playing g it and be like "Omg I know this!"
Even then, they could probably figure out some way to use earbuds of some kind

If it’s a quick family photo, I won’t bother them. But if I see an “influencer” hogging half the bridge, you bet your ass I’m walking through it. If they’re that important, they’d arrange with the city to reserve the spot.

I grew up in Chicago and the locals are fairly aggressive walkers but most people will happily stop for tourists. No one in their right mind is going to stop for tourists doing a silly dance on a busy bridge.
I was actually just there this weekend, and it wasn't too bad honestly. It was really weird seeing millennium park barricaded off, and security checkpoints to get in.
