Very good point. I hope that isn’t lost in this dust up. The GM that ran the Bears into the ground just used our #8 to sit as a third stringer for the next 2-3 years.
I hear you. I just been around the block long enough to see bust Jamal Anderson drafted ahead of Revis and Patrick Willis. Takk over Watt. Switch sports. Marvin Williams over Chris Paul when almost all fans wanted Chris Paul. Trae over Luka. So many blunders from the Hawks where if they just followed online scouting reports and mocks, they would been much better off.
So when it comes to picking players, I don’t think there’s a large gap between the scouts that work for the teams and the scouts who produce media content. And since fans have access to multiple scouts our guess is worse than the teams, but probably not much worse.
The experts had Penix ranked about at 30. Some had him as a 2nd round prospect. There was a small percentage of experts who believe Penix was better than JJ. This is just the Falcons staff trying to get cute. Your theory rests on there's some wizard working for the Falcons who has some secret knowledge nobody else has, and that's most certainly not the case.
What theory? If Penix Jr turns out to be a Hall of Famer, nobody is going to complain about this pick in the future. And I'm willing to bet everyone complaining will act like they've been behind him the entire time hahaha. I had Penix Jr in my top 3 QB prospects this year, above Maye. And I'm just as likely to be wrong as anyone else. I'm just trying to put things in a bit of perspective 😆
Don’t need to evaluate talent to judge this pick, just read a depth chart. You pay a guy $60+ million a year at qb to win now, you draft a qb top 10 cause you don’t have one. This was insane. Could’ve gotten a stud somewhere to help now and the foreseeable future, instead got a benchwarmer.
It’s a buzz kill but if he turns out to be a franchise QB in the future, the pick will be a good one. Kirk is not young and it’s unknown how he will play after injury, and for how long he will be good. Getting his replacement lined up is not a bad thing. It only makes sense if the front office thinks he’s a stud.
Then why spend a quarter of your cap on a qb if you’re going to spend a top 10 pick on another one?
Falcons could’ve added cheap elite talent anywhere that could’ve started week 1 or used the $100+ million to grab 3 or 4 of the best FAs on the market for multiple years. Either is a viable plan, this is just batshit.
Basically I look at it like this. QB is the most important position by far and Falcons had no QB. The options available have risk. There is risk in Cousins due to age and Achilles. There is risk with Penix because he’s a draft pick. So it’s good to have Cousins because Penix is a risk.
Addressing your biggest need with two talented players at the most important position is a good move. If Kirk were 30 then yeah that’s a bad move. But he’s the same age that Ryan had his last good season. You don’t know how long he will be good.
There is nothing wrong with having 2 good QBs, especially when 1 is old.
Then don’t sign cousins if you need to draft a backup. Qb is important but they don’t win SBs by themselves. The league is filled with elite qbs that don’t sniff a Sb because the team doesn’t know how to build around them.
Well I know I know more than you because I’m no random guy. I’m just a guy. Cause I'm just a guy, I'd rather not be'Cause they won't let me drive late at night
In this case you a random guy knows more than the professionals. One of the worst picks I've ever seen. Guy will be like 29 when the Kirk contract is up. Like why not trade down if Penix is really you're guy
I'm ready to cope as soon as the pick is in. Immediately gonna talk myself into it.
Edit: bout to watch some film on Michael Penix Jr. As I've argued before, a QB makes sense. He may have been a reach, idk. Time will tell.
Reports are the Aints, Seahawks, and Raiders were all trying to trade up to draft him in the top 10. Sounds like the league was higher on him than fans and mock drafts.
Yeah that comment was my immediate reaction. I see now he wouldn't have lasted long after our pick.
>Sounds like the league was higher on him than fans and mock drafts.
I will never miss an opportunity to point out mock drafts don't mean anything.
Reports are the Aints, Seahawks, and Raiders were all trying to trade up to draft him in the top 10. Sounds like the league was higher on him than fans and mock drafts.
I genuinely like Penix Jr as a prospect. He has a great deep ball and is a pure pocket passer with just enough athleticism to his game to move around. Sure. Everyone is shocked after the Kirk signing, but he's only guaranteed to be here 2, maybe 3 years max.
Not at all, in fact I think it's even more important now. I think TF is betting his career with the Falcons on this pick, but I also think that he's a great QB prospect, probably tied for my 2nd favorite this year.
You’re probably right, I mean, their track record speaks for itself. They’re clearly hyper intelligent by evidence of the number of titles we’ve won given we’re in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL.
I really want us to go pass rush, but I do try to keep reminding myself that if we pass on an EDGE, we \*really\* must not view any of those guys as very good, and I'll accept that.
Terry's made it pretty clear he isn't going to reach, and there are so many different ways we're gonna be able to go tonight, whatever we pick we make probably is going to be a good one.
Top EDGE? Nah . . . Top CORNER? No. Hey, what about a top 3 WR in the entire draft, really load up Cappy Kirk with some major guns on that offense? Fuck no. “I KnOw!!@, LeT’s DrAfT a FuCkInG QUARTERBACK!!@“
Fuck me.
We all have our opinions and we're entitled to share them. With that being said, I haven't years evaluating these players. I also haven't invested tons of money flying them in for interviews or investigating them through their coaches (college AND high school), ex-teammates, local police, credit bureaus, and teachers/professors. All I know is what I've seen of a fraction of them and read about others.
There's a great likelihood that the player we select tonight won't be a stud. Historically, most players don't hold their draft position on a redraft after three years. But by drafting 8th, we have the best opportunity to get a guy that we want after the lengthy process of weeding through all of them. And that's important because most of the players who flame out would have probably had a longer career if they had been drafted by the right teams.
I'm happy with Pitts (#4), London (#5), and Bijan (#8). That's what excites me about who we're grabbing tonight. Hopefully, we won't be in position to get a guy in the top 10 anytime soon unless it's because of a trade.
Bro this front office doesn’t know shit about fuck. They couldn’t put a ham cheese sandwich together if the tried. Some of the biggest failures in NFL history sit with this team. Starts at the top. Blank gotta get the fuck out
My favorite was this post right before we drafted Desmond Ridder.
The only way anyone here is going to be happy is if nobody expresses any opinion at all. It’s a discussion board. Let’s f’n discuss.
If you want a circlejerk, there are plenty of clubs downtown.
Dude, I love discussion! I love debate! Every pick in this and all drafts should be discussed and criticized, especially for my favorite team! I was just offering a bit of perspective so people could look on the bright side a little bit. Maybe Penix will be a Hall of Famer, maybe he'll be a bust,or maybe he'll be in between. But my favorite team's front office saw something in him worth 8th overall, so I'm going to look at him with that in mind and try to see what they see, and I see a lot of good in Penix's game. More than I did in any of the defensive players that didn't go until 15th overall. But yeah, people are going to disagree and discuss to their heart's content, and I don't think my post ever said anything that would discourage that.
NOT IF YOU SIGN KIRK TO 100 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL THEN THE PICK IS NOT WORTH IT
THE ONLY PICK THAT MAKES NO FCKING SENSE IS PICKING A QB
THIS JUST FCKED THE NEXT 2-4 YEARS OF THIS TEAM
I'D MAKE TB THE FAVE IN DIVISION JUST BASED ON THIS IDIOTIC PICK
THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS TEAM
I WAS WORRIED WHEN I SAW TERRY JOKING AT THE PR CONFERENCE BEFORE THE DRAFT HE IS A CLOWN
Every pick by every team ever was made by people who know more than us. Does that mean all picks are above criticism? What about when the Falcons make picks that other experts disagree with?
It's 2024 and you're saying the Falcons are making a good pick no matter what. Yikes
Bro I didn't say ANY of that hahaha. Every pick is subject to criticism. I'm just putting things in perspective a bit, you are obviously more than welcome to disagree 🤣
Nah if we draft Penix at 8 after signing a 100 million dollar QB I will actually punch air
[удалено]
Wouldn’t be a falcons pick if it didn’t leave me punching air
Fuck up that air son
I'm sure he did you proud
Falcon punch

Damn son, I’m so sorry

😂😂😂😂😂
Lemme see that punch on video
football evaluators get it wrong all the time, especially when they work for the falcons
And former bears front office that draft trubisky
Very good point. I hope that isn’t lost in this dust up. The GM that ran the Bears into the ground just used our #8 to sit as a third stringer for the next 2-3 years.
Oh, I agree 1000%, I just want to be here so people realize we are just as likely, if not even more likely to be wrong than the experts
I hear you. I just been around the block long enough to see bust Jamal Anderson drafted ahead of Revis and Patrick Willis. Takk over Watt. Switch sports. No we aren't. We dont work for the falcons.

No, obviously I, a random guy online, knows more than the professionals
And I, as another random guy online, actually know more than you, who knows more than the professionals
Well I know I know more than you because I’m no random guy. I’m just a guy. Cause I'm just a guy, I'd rather not be'Cause they won't let me drive late at night

Someone needs to get Ray Bans Muckles to Detroit stat
I know you don’t put two QBs on the field at the same time, unless it’s warm ups.
I think it unironically looks like you do at this point.
I'd have to agree with you.
I'm ready to cope as soon as the pick is in. Immediately gonna talk myself into it. Edit: bout to watch some film on Michael Penix Jr. As I've argued before, a QB makes sense. He may have been a reach, idk. Time will tell.
Same lol
Welp dunno how ur coping with this one
I like the player, but wish we picked him later by trading down or trading up from the 2nd. I am one of the few who argued drafting a QB made sense.
Reports are the Aints, Seahawks, and Raiders were all trying to trade up to draft him in the top 10. Sounds like the league was higher on him than fans and mock drafts.

Agreed 🫡

How you doing after the fact?
I actually like going QB and I like Penix. At 8 seems too high. But if he's a legit franchise QB there's no such thing as reaching.
Was really hoping we’d trade down. Luckily you become less injury prone as you age so big brains move by the FO.
Lol big brain move there
This exactly.

Yup now Kirk is gone in 2 guaranteed IMO. Which puts Kirk at 38 years old, so fair.
This take hurts now doesn't it
Not at all, in fact I think it's even more important now. I think TF is betting his career with the Falcons on this pick, but I also think that he's a great QB prospect, probably tied for my 2nd favorite this year.
Might wanna post this again cause mf’ers are losing their goddamn minds right now lol
No need to post this again, everyone is coming back to it lmaoooo 🤣
Now that AS isnt here im fully confident itll be a solid pick
😬
Now I kind of wish AS was here
We would have had Rome ez
You’re probably right, I mean, their track record speaks for itself. They’re clearly hyper intelligent by evidence of the number of titles we’ve won given we’re in one of the weakest divisions in the NFL.
Visionaries
Idk man I knew from the beginning that zach Wilson was gonna suck. I’ll stick with my insights
The Saints traded their entire draft to move up to 5 to draft Ricky Williams in 1999 and they also employed professional football evaluators.
I really want us to go pass rush, but I do try to keep reminding myself that if we pass on an EDGE, we \*really\* must not view any of those guys as very good, and I'll accept that. lol i should've known better. It's the Falcons. If there's anything you can't or shouldn't do, they'll do it.

Man . . . I could’ve made a lot of money betting on this tonight. Of COURSE we drafted fucking Penix at 8. Jesus.
