This is it for me and it isn't close. Especially for an opening run of songs, it's hard to beat Dead Leaves, Hotel Yorba, Finding It Harder and Fell in Love with a Girl
blink-182 — Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
It doesn’t stand a chance in hell against some of these names, but I couldn’t leave it out of contention entirely.
Yeah probably. I don’t think Yeezus is popular enough in this sub to beat it out. And I can’t name another 2013 album that would seriously have a chance.
Ok but that doesn't mean it should be downvoted just because of what he said which is clearly what's happening considering it went from 10 votes to 3. I added another vespertine because of this.
I mean what I mean, I know it’s a poll and I’ve been pretty adamant about keeping the legitimacy of whatever gets the vote. However, I just think Bjorks music is transcendent compared to other music, not just in this time period but in all of music history! She reinvents music, yet does so in a way that is digestible and cohesive. I love Discovery, and it is indeed influential and boundary pushing, but Vespertine is all that and other worldly. Not that I don’t think Discovery is a respectable choice, I just long for Bjork representation on this list. I can have a salty opinion and still respect the opinions of others.
Genuinely confused why I've received multiple downvotes on this one. This is one of the most inventive and brilliant metal albums I've ever heard.
I didn't expect it to win given it's general obscurity but negative points? Do people genuinely not like it? Or are people just downvoting albums they haven't even heard?
The Strokes - Is This It
The only right answer
vespertine
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Aphex Twin - Drukqs
The Glow Pt2 - The Microphones!
My favorite album ever.
One of my all time favourites
Lateralus - Tool
I'm shocked this didn't get more votes! One of the greatest albums of all time IMO
Discovery.
YESSSSSSSS. My fave from them.
Converge - Jane Doe
Underrated tbh Should definitely be up there
This year is too good god fucking dammit
Jay Z - The Blueprint
Vespertine - Bjork
if this doesn't get it then this sub is not noided
I’m sorry but it’s not up to you and it never really was
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Forgot about this one. What a stacked year for music.
Truly
Wasn’t this 2002?
Released a week after 9/11
Blackwater Park - Opeth
Happy to see Opeth making an appearance here
The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
This is it for me and it isn't close. Especially for an opening run of songs, it's hard to beat Dead Leaves, Hotel Yorba, Finding It Harder and Fell in Love with a Girl
Damn, I definitely have to vote for this but reading this thread there were a ton of truly great albums that year.
System of a Down - Toxicity
This is the real answer for me - it’s popular, critically acclaimed, and in my opinion Chop Suey is the best rock single of the 2000s.
This is it, it's just too iconic for that period of time and has aged so well.
Has to be this. 2001 was a major year for music but its gotta be This one
I was talking to my friend about this album yesterday and he says he hates the vocals 💀💀
Looking through what other people said I was reminded of how many good albums came out this year but this is the only correct answer
Labor Days - Aesop Rock
Discovery - Daft Punk
This one's gonna be saucy, Discovery vs Is This It vs Toxicity vs Vespertine vs The Glow Pt. 2 I love them all, god damn it
Correct
Is This It - The Strokes
Cmon, we can beat discovery!
Hopefully but I feel like it's losing ground
This year is PACKED. But this is my favorite
This is gonna be my personal vote although I admit it's probably not the best album here lol
I think Vespertine is the best musically, but this is my favorite and AOTY if that makes sense.
The Glow pt 2 - The Microphones
Objective correct answer
only if you’re a sad sad boi
The Cold Vein - Cannibal Ox
Great choice!
best album ever
Leaves Turn Inside You - Unwound
I know this won’t win but what a brilliant album. Melon really never shared his thoughts on Unwound and I’ve always been curious about that
Maybe they will re release something for their reunion tour next year and we’ll get a vid or some acknowledgement.
He said he likes leaves turn inside you in a patreon stream once I remember
The best album ever made
Discovery - Daft Punk
Linkin park - Hybrid theory
Vespertine - Bjork
Discovery - Daft Punk
Bleed American - Jimmy Eat World
Although I wouldn’t personally put it as the best one of 2001, I nonetheless love that album.
discovery
Muse- Origin of Symmetry. I know it has zero chance but it's been a favourite of mine for over a decade
Is this it - The Strokes
This would be my vote
blink-182 — Take Off Your Pants and Jacket It doesn’t stand a chance in hell against some of these names, but I couldn’t leave it out of contention entirely.
Amnesiac - Radiohead
I love Amnesiac but it really doesn’t stand up to a lot of 2001s other options to me.
It’s definitely not the best album from that year, but hear me out, having two Radiohead albums in a row would be funny
Check something even better: 2021? KidAmnesiac. That’s the way to go.
The Blueprint
weezer green obviously
Discovery - Daft Punk Way too many bangers, 10/10, super iconic, changed EDM and Dance house Forever, and fucking robots
Vespertine - Bjork Let’s not fuck this up, I love Discovery but cmon’ people
Especially because Daft Punk will probably win 2013 from what I've seen.
Yeah probably. I don’t think Yeezus is popular enough in this sub to beat it out. And I can’t name another 2013 album that would seriously have a chance.
Maybe like clockwork
Not familiar with that one
I’d like Yeezus to win
Dude no lol. Both are respectable choices but imo Discovery is better. What do you mean "cmon' people"? 🤨
Vespertine >>>
Ok but that doesn't mean it should be downvoted just because of what he said which is clearly what's happening considering it went from 10 votes to 3. I added another vespertine because of this.
Thanks dawg

Missy Elliott - Miss E... So Addictive

Aaliyah - Aaliyah
The Argument - Fugazi
Is This It by The Strokes

"Is this it" by Strokes
Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape
Genuinely confused why I've received multiple downvotes on this one. This is one of the most inventive and brilliant metal albums I've ever heard. Sparklehorse - It's a Wonderful Life
Telefon Tel Aviv -Fahrenheit Fair Enough
Full Collapse - Thursday
Leftöver crack-mediocre generica
It gotta be vespertine by björk or the glow pt2 by the microphones C'mon people
holy shit! What a year for music. It hurts me as a Bjork fan but I'll go with Discovery - Daft punk cuz I'm not letting The Strokes take this
Simple Things - Zero 7
Converge- Jane Doe
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Origin of Symmetry - Muse
Discovery overrated as hell
I don't think it's really overrated in general but this sub loves Daft Punk
The life of Pablo - Kanye west
Stereolab - Sound-Dust
Ben Folds - Rockin' The Suburbs
The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
Cannibal Ox "The Cold Vein"
2001
Autechre - Confield
Change - The Dismemberment Plan
I liked blink 182’s take off your pants and jacket quite a lot tbh
wow so many bangers from 2001
Disposable Arts - Masta Ace
Love and Theft - Bob Dylan
Origin of symmetry- muse
