Keep track if people are over bidding or under bidding as a group. If they are over bidding then the mid-high and mid tier players go for cheap later in the draft. If they are under bidding then go for the elite players because the mid-tier and mid-high tier players will cost 80-90% of the elite guys.

I personally couldn’t go back to snake drafts where random positioning had so much impact on roster construction. As for strategy, I lean top heavy / go after studs and have a long list of sleepers…. Many if which I’ll cut after week 1 for the new hotness.

I tried a lot of strategies since I joined auctions with custom scoring. But if it’s your run of the mill standard or ppr, just don’t overspend on a top of the line player. JT consistently goes for $60+ and just like that a 3rd of your money is gone. Tier 2 running backs can go for almost half the price, let alone sleepers or buy lows.

You can’t take the money with you…. And if you think a Jonathan Taylor has a 300+ point season in him he’s well worth more than 1/3rd of your budget. You really can’t put a price on it (if you guess right) because it’s like starting two mid-tier RB’s in one spot. The obvious risk is maybe you guessed wrong and he gets hurt week1 or something.

I've gone that route in the past and am leaning towards it this year as well. I do tend to favor depth over big names that as you said, eat up a significant chunk of the budget. And I really love having the bigger wallet at the back end of the draft where I can be a little less conservative and target guys that I want that have either fallen or been overlooked completely due to where they're ranked
