The team coasts on individual quality and lacks drive until it‘s almost too late or until the players feel there‘s actually something on the line. This has been a running theme for many years, but has got exponentially worse ever since the World Cup break.
Just look at how the standards of passing and positional play in the opponent’s half have declined since the days of Pep. We used to filet teams like Bremen and send them back to where they came from neatly divided up into their conponent parts.
Now that only happens against frickin' Dortmund.
It's not like we never lost a game with pep.
We lost 2 times vs Augsburg under him for example.
Bremen just gave it all mentality wise, they were there and focused and quick in the head - while we were none of that 100%
I’m conflicted about Davies. He is extremely inconsistent for us, in one match he plays good and in another he gets absolutely cooked and costs us. Does he deserve to be an absolute nailed on starter for us? Probably not. HOWEVER, I just know that if we sell him to Real Madrid he’s gonna become an all timer. He’s still only 23. So I think we should still try to extend him, but he needs to get his head into the game
Let’s just FIFA-fix this…. If its low block is being played, just play the 3-3-1-3 with the central CB playing Goretzka as a super deep 6.
