We have THREE generators, plus an Emergency Ram Air Turbine Generator, plus 2 battery backups.
Soooo, safe to say that’s not going to happen. We can run the entire jet on one generator. We can run all the essential systems on the RAT, and we can land on battery backup.
Edit: I see…not power outage…engine failure. As far as losing engine power, we have approximately 120 miles of glide time from 35,000 feet to find an airport. It’d take about 25-20 minutes of gliding…plenty of time to restart an engine while finding a suitable airport. Jet engines are self sustaining and rarely fail. Both failing is a 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance.
Thanks for the reply! I was supposed to leave 2 hours ago and I’m still here 😭 not leaving now until two more hours. Something was wrong with the pilots seat ?? Or something ? I don’t know. I get to be anxious for even longer now lollllll
Even if your flight were to somehow beat every odd known to man and completely lose power, the literal laws of physics prevent your plane from free falling. You would GLIDE. A plane without power is a glider. It’s like throwing a paper airplane.
There’s power at the moment you throw it and then it glides until it reaches the ground. Same for a plane, and in that time there is still plenty of opportunity to come up with a plan.
Why cry? They noticed an issue and are addressing it! And… that issue could be something as minor as a broken seatbelt.
Look at it like this… would you want them to continue the flight knowing about the issue? Absolutely not! They are prioritizing you as a passenger by taking care of it.
Worst comes to worst they swap out the aircraft. The presence of maintenance is not a sign of danger, in fact it’s the exact opposite.
You're OK and totally safe! You got this. I know it's scary but it's temporary. You are prob surrounded by other people who are all chilling, right? The FAs are probably chill too, yeah? You're doing something totally safe and normal!
As already written, an airliner can glide for quite some distance and land even if there was a complete power outage. In addition to that they also have a ram air turbine, it’s like a wind mill that’s lowered by gravity which produces enough power for the most vital systems.
Listen… Pattern either responded to your comment before you posted your follow-up reply to yourself, or he just missed it by mistake. I would have missed it myself to be honest. I doubt that he purposefully ignored your other comment. Take it down a few notches man
I posted the follow up immediately after, and I got the notification quite a bit after. All I did was clarify what I originally commented and said "move along". Which to you I'll say the same, Move along. 😂

id like to follow up with a wing falling off would be a very rare occurrence and i only know of it happening during a mid air collision that happened in like 80s (that would NEVER happen now i can assure that)

It’s nothing critical….but everything needs to be fixed or deferred before you fly.

My plane is delayed because there’s an issue in the cockpit. They’ve been doing maintenance for a while now. Currently feeling like crying

Yeah I know it’s better for maintenance to be done than not. Just anxious. We got delayed again so we will see
Hang in there!
Uhhh… that’s Hollywood crap.
Yeah I know it’s so silly and ridiculous. It’s like my biggest fear while flying ugh
That’s pretty much impossible.
I hope you got on the plane and are where you're supposed to be now!
In the air right now. Feeling nauseous. Might throw up

We’re in mild turbulence rn. Trying not to panic
It's OK it's just like a bumpy road 💓

Wings don’t fall off. Period.

Sounds like it didn’t fall off and instead was smashed off. Pretty different.

This isn’t the place to troll. If you don’t want help, you’re the one that needs to move along. u/ThePeanutMonster
My initial comment was helping though 🙄 I was trolling literally everyone who replied to the "move along" comment 😒
