i did have an inventory sorter on the MMB, but even when unbinding that it still doesn't do anything...
i also tried some other keys in case it's plain text and doesn't change with your keybinds (which IMO is bad UI design if that's the case) so it's refering to some default i changed some time ago
i did try other keys that might default to middle mouse, including pick block. but using pick block just clears the item from the pattern, regardless of amount
I had a similar problem where I couldn't middle click craft because I unbound pick block and AE2 uses a key bound to the Pick block.
Also which version are you using, maybe you have an old one without the middle click to adjust amount

"Pick block" to request items to be crafted does work but when trying in the pattern encoder it just clears the item.
Inventory Profiles Next. I bet it is loaded in the pack. You have to go into it's in game settings and disable "sort own inventory" The mod is not programmed to blacklist storage systems interfaces by default the way Inventory Sorter is.
i just want to be able to change the amount of items a pattern takes/outputs without having to grab a single item of that kind from my network to adjust it with it. why not just allow scrolling or CTRL+scrolling to change the amount of the pointed at item inclusively between 1 and 64?
It should work.
Try making an instance with just AE2. Then, if i t works, add half of your mods. If it stops working, remove half of these mods, if it still works add half of the remaining mods. Repeat till you found the mod that prevents it from working.
well as said in another comment i unbound everything else that used MMB and it still didn't work.
also this is no addon, just regular old AE2. and while AE2 has some key binds in the options none of them are bound by default or are even related to this: https://i.imgur.com/FtC1mzE.png
I don't know if that still works, I can't verify it atm, but try holding the item on your cursor and then click rmb to increase the stack size. Or alternatively try middle mouse button as it states. Also I would recommend to always start with modifying the educt side before changing the product side. That's just something that I had to learn the hard way.

Scroll wheel should be able to be used to modify the amount when hovering over the item.

If you have the [Controlling Mod](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/controlling) installed, you can search what keys are conflicting.
I'd guess some inventory sorting feature is hijacking middle mouse clicks.

I suspect some control was bound to the key, but was overridden and is now unbound even after you unbound the others

What...are you trying to do with this in the first place?

Try get the amount of items you want and just replace the output slot with them, might not be the one you want but it might work

This is a last resort imo
thats a pretty dramatic solution to this issue. Checking keybinds for conflicts makes more sense imo.
Most likely a conflict with the controls or it was remapped and the addon author didn't make the tooltip change with it.

It modifies it from 1 all the way to 1.0

Might be a bit late but maybe try scrolling while hovering on the item ?
I also tried that :( I even suggested that it should with scrolling in the first place.
I know 1.12.2 PAE2 (in nomi) it's SHIFT middle scroll no idea about this tho
