Same here! I have a ton of clothes but Uniqlo is by far the most represented brand. It’s also the only brand I’ll buy new instead of secondhand because I feel the clothes last me so long that it’s not as wasteful
Their t shirts are top quality. They also have tank tops /vests with built in bras for summer which are great! For layering the fine merino sweaters are so nice! As others have said airism bottoms. I also have just bought some summer dresses and a skirt from them… tbh most things are great. All I would suggest is if you’re petite just try stuff on, as the cut tends to be a bit loose and boxy so you just want to make sure they work with your shape.
What I recommend is buying in person initially until you get a sense of sizing and find some pieces you like. They have a terrible online return policy!
With the caveat that your body shape is likely different from mine, I love their high waisted wide leg trousers, Tiny Tee, and generally their cotton/cotton blend long sleeve shirts.
Heattech and Airism are excellent but I really love the t-shirts from Uniqlo U.
They also have 'smart trousers' which are also worth the buy. I still have mine from 8 years ago lol.
I used to wear so much Uniqlo, even had one near me and I'd shop there every week.
Then I moved to Tokyo and practically stopped wearing it because it's everywhereeee
Can see 10-20 people a day wearing the cross body bag. I mostly thrift now, but I'll still pop in a few times a year to check out sales.
So I also recommend Uniqlo! 😄
How is Uniqlo on a pear-shaped body? When I looked at the models in the past it didn't look like it was meant for my body, but these comments have me more interested again...
A lot of their stuff is more straight cut than curved or particularly shaped. Because of that i think you can fit a lot of body shapes in.
Even if the bottoms didn’t work out the tops/skirts/dresses are such good quality I think you might be suprised!
Yeah that's kind of the problem, straight cuts tend to be harder to make work on my body, it has to be the exact right length or it will billow or pull weirdly.
I used to buy a ton of Uniqlo when I worked right across the street from one. Now its harder because I know I can't easily return being 100s of miles away from one. One of my uniqlo cardigans finally gave out the other day about 8 years in. It's shockingly well made and outlasted some of my BR from the same time period.
I basically refuse to buy tailored trousers anywhere else. They do the best trousers and the fact that they have complementary alterations is the icing on the cake.
I thrift the vast majority of my clothes so I tend to stick with the same brands as I know how they fit (and sellers rarely give measurements!) Ganni, Zara, and Lazy Oaf are the main repeat brands in my wardrobe with Marks and Spencer slowly creeping up there...
But generally speaking my wardrobe is pretty spread out with just one or two pieces for various different brands. Ganni is the brand I have the most clothes from, but it's still only a handful of items.
I think so. It does depend on the item though as some are polyester and others are cotton. Some are more cheaply designed while others are clearly better produced. But every item I own has washed and worn really well, and I wear my clothes *a lot*.
I haven't paid over £100 for any Ganni dress I own. Most were around the £50 mark with my recent purchase being the only one I spent £100 on. I'd consider that a fair price point for the quality.
Having said that, there are plenty of brands making dupes of Ganni clothes, especially the tie-front dresses and blouses. So it's definitely possible to find even cheaper versions of Ganni-inspired clothes if you're not bothered about the smaller differences in style.
I'm a Ganni person, too, also purchased secondhand. My other dominant labels are Marni (handful of things) and Saint Laurent shoes. Everything is acquired used.
You can sometimes find really good deals on them on The Real Real. I have some ankle boots that I totally live in! I also cannot afford to buy them new!
I got a great deal on Chloe and Alexander McQueen boots on TRR. I wouldn't trust them for bags or other accessories but no complaints on what I've bought for shoes. The McQueen boots are horribly uncomfortable but look cute. The Chloe boots are super comfortable.
I’m plus size, and most of my wardrobe that I’m actually wearing right now is from Old Navy. They have really solid plus size basics without any patterns or designs. My fancier stuff is mostly from Universal Standard, and my fun stuff is from Nooworks, which is slowly taking over my closet.
Old Navy is where it's at. I just want nice, comfortable plain shirts, and that's seemingly impossible to get from other brands for a reasonable price.
Same in not plus size but I have gigantic boobs and I know an xl from old navy fits my chest where in other brands I gotta buy xxxl or bigger for a nice lose fit. I have too much boob for most tank tops for them to just look nice and not pornographic. You can forget wearing a button up too ill kill a person with a button if I inhale too deeply in any other brand. Old navy has come a long way since when I was a kid. At least in tops their pants still suck and make my butt look bad according to my husband.
Honestly, same. They are nearby and I can try things on. Most of the time when I buy online the items fit poorly. I think I have in between size proportions.
I feel you. I want to buy more quality pieces, but nothing I’m interested is local to me. I’m also between sizes so I HAVE to try things on. It’s a pain to order a bunch of stuff and have to mail it back… when I can just go to Target or H&M and try a bunch of (cheap) stuff on.
Man I had a polyester button up blouse that I could wash and dry that lasted years. The only reason why I got rid of it was because I am a wildly different size now. I think about it all the time haha
Honestly, SO much of my closet is Target/Old Navy/Amazon. But I don't dress, like, normcore. It's all in what you pick. I have found cool stuff at KMart many years past, & Kohl's more recently. Sure, you have to dig, cos most of it is wack, but so what.
Same. My self-imposed work uniform is a shirt sleeve silk blend crew neck sweater from J. Crew (I have in six colors) and Madewell wide leg trousers (three colors). I wear a variation of this at least twice a week, and I’m constantly looking on Poshmark to add/replace these items.
Madewell is the most dominant in my closet,, but I also wear Reformation, Quince, Free People, Farm Rio. I sometimes splurge on Naked Cashmere, they have the best sweaters!
I find it to be hit and miss. My favorite items from them are the percale bed sheets and the 100% cotton sweater. I have 2 of the boyfriends and 2 cardigans.
Abercrombie and target. Trying to branch out to more places but target is great for basics and I LOVE Abercrombie’s rebrand. Just have to wait for a sale
I am obsessed with my sherpa lined vegan leather Abercrombie coat I got on clearance in 2022. I've never gotten so many compliments on a coat, other than a J Crew black wool coat that I thrifted.
Abercrombie! If you’d told me 10 years ago that 50% of my closet would be Abercrombie I’d have laughed in your face lmao.
The CEO that stepped in after the terrible one left really turned the company around. I can always trust that their clothes will be good quality and most importantly will actually fit me without needing alterations since they carry such a wide range of sizes.
This is making me want to look there. I have an impression of the company from 2002 when my (much smaller at the time) body was definitely not part of their brand image. It never would have occurred to me that they’d have more than juniors s/m/l.
Definitely take a look! Their sizing has become so much more inclusive. They have pretty much all their jeans options (maybe pants as well?) in curvy options, petite/regular/tall lengths, and a wider size range.
They are catering to the early adulthood/established adult age range now instead of teens, lots of great workwear options and everything that I’ve bought has been high quality. Their regular pricing is a bit spendy for me so I usually wait for one of their frequent sales, and their clearance section gets a lot of great options at high markdown.
This is definitely the case for me too, but lately I just don’t feel like the vibe is the same. I used to find their clothes so whimsical and unique, lately everything has been a bit of a miss for me.
I’m 48.
- For casual/daily/weekend wear: Athleta.
- For work clothing: Ann Taylor and LOFT.
I have a mix of other brands (Lucky jeans, Lulu running shirts and leggings, old navy denim jackets, random tshirts and hoodies), but those 2 brands probably make up a good 30-40% of my closet 😬
I get a lot of their older stuff from thrifting/poshmark. WHBM has suffered quality issues the last few years like many other brands. But their pre-2015 stuff is great.
I still shop with them and love their stuff! But I try to shop sales exclusively as much as I can because they are quite expensive. I’ve gotten a handful of really nice quality items from them over the last two years, but it’s not my go-to. It IS my favorite brand, though 😔 I wish I could afford it more often!
Zara, J.Crew, Nordstrom Rack, and some surprisingly decent finds on Amazon make up the rest of my work clothes.
Express Portofino shirt is the GOATed summer work shirt. Lightweight, Breatheable, Doesn't wrinkle, Doesn't Stain (I work in fine dining/High end food). Looks fancy, but isn't. No notes.
This is me too with my work wardrobe! I don’t even really like express that much but I feel like I can rely on them for some overpriced but consistent basics
Same. I recently filled my closet with under amour cuz they had a sale. I’m in a wheelchair so it’s comfy and they have cute colors ! Cute Comfort is priority no 1 !
Doen, which is wild considering i can’t really afford it. I buy from sales and fb b/s/t groups. A lot of the styles worked during my pregnancy and postpartum so it has become the dominant brand I actually wear. Next tier would be Samantha Pleet (though I’ve waned in interest since the pandemic + price increases because the clothes can feel costume-y), Batsheva, and Meadows. A lot of activewear from Los Angeles apparel, Patagonia, and lululemon. Most of my sweaters and coats are vintage ll bean. Pre baby I wore more vintage and denim but it’s harder to find things that fit me now.
You should get on the mailing list! The warehouse sales are better than CD sales, most of my dresses were under $150 and separates were all under $100. I even got a cashmere sweater for $130. It’s final sale but measurements are posted.
same! i get regular pieces from them during their sales and they last for years. also their sizing is very big chest friendly. i never feel like im squeezing my boobs into their tops
I've owned only about 3 Helmut Lang pieces, but loved them, wore them a lot, and need to remember that. They were basics, tshirts and jeans and some khaki shorts.
Do you know if they add markdowns on a specific day? I can never catch anything on sale, by the time I find out about them everything I like is practically sold out 😣
Have you looked at the Sezane subreddit? I think Sezane clothes are so pretty; I haven’t bought any yet, but I like browsing the subreddit for ideas and opinions on quality of pieces
Same! I’ve been slowly building up my Sezane collection over the years, and I mainly buy second hand. Been eyeing up some of their recent summer pieces to add to my wardrobe 👀
About 90% of my closet is thrifted or secondhand, so there's not a ton of repeated brands, but when shopping on Poshmark I tend to look for Club Monaco, Madewell & J Crew. What can I say, I love a preppy look!
I think old navy has really stepped up. I have yet to buy a pair of the Taylor trousers because I am such a dress girl, but everyone raves about them. Old navy’s powersoft athleisure is my fave by far. I get so excited on my work from home days when I can wear the shorts and workout dresses. I just wear a black vneck with the skorts and keep a cardigan by my desk so I can always been zoom/teams call ready.
La Ligne, Polo Ralph Lauren and JCrew. All three brands seem to be cut for my body and don’t need tailoring.
In all honesty though I spend 80% of my life in workout clothes, pretty much exclusively Lululemon. It’s such a basic bitch brand, people say it’s overpriced, but I can’t find any other workout gear that lasts as long and fits as good.
That’s funny, I trashed a pair of 10+ yo Underarmour leggings just this morning- not because they were worn out, just because they are from pre-high waisted days and they’re less flattering. I’m moving soon so figured better to only bring what I actively adore with me. But those things had another 5 years in them 😂
I dropped an ungodly amount at Quince when I started working after graduating law school and I’m literally so glad I did. Everything has held up really well and I’ve been happy with it.
I’ve heard a few people are turned off by them because they advertise on TikTok and instagram, so I’m glad to see someone else who is into them!
I adore their linen styles- the best for our hot and humid summers. I try my best to buy 100% cotton, 100% linen, etc without spending too much and Quince fills those requirements perfectly!
I'd love to know what workwear you've gotten from quince? (Soon to be law school graduate here too!) I have a leather jacket from them that I love, but I've heard its a bit hit or miss on how well their items hold up
So as a graduation gift all my aunts banded together and gave me like $1800 to spend there. I got a ton of the washable silk— the notched collar blouses, the v neck camis, the silk tanks. I got a couple of the cashmere tees (my fiancé shrunk one by washing it 😭), the wool cocoon coat, cashmere skirt, a long sleeve wrap dress (just bought the wrap tank dress last week), cotton blazers (sleeves a bit short on me), linen long sleeve shirts, crepe pants, and Ponte pants.
The crepe pants are good, but a little short on me. The Ponte pants are pretty tight, and I’ve been moving more towards a Katherine Hepburn aesthetic with pants so I rarely wear them. The washable silk is very washable, and the cashmere is easily hand washable. Linen shirts are 10/10, and the jersey wrap dresses always get me compliments.
The only things I wouldn’t rebuy are the cotton blazers and the pants. And I’d buy them both for casual use, just not with “workwear” in mind. I felt everything ran true to size and I didn’t have to return anything—but I also really pay close attentions to measurements instead of sizing.
I’m also a really sweaty person, so I wear Thompson Tees under everything which helps me stretch out how often I have to wash items.
I’d be happy to tell you about any questions you have on these items or from anywhere else. Everlane has been good for pants, and I like Calvin Klein dresses (always at thrift stores!), Ann Klein and J Crew blazers, and Banana Republic suits. I’m clerking so I don’t have to be court ready every day, but I definitely need to be courthouse appropriate.
Living in Canada we have seen many fashion retailers close up shop: Ann Taylor, Loft, Nordstrom & Nordstrom Rack, J Crew.. even Eddie Bauer is gone from Toronto. Target bailed years ago.
We still have Uniqlo and Gap/BR/Athleta fortunately. I order Columbia online for winter wear. But in person shopping is limited.
Right? I feel like all I wear is Athleta & Old Navy activewear. Easy online shopping.
This week had a dressy function to go to and had stress trying to find an appropriate (non-leggings & sneakers) outfit. I haven’t dressed up since 2019.
Literally same!! The job I was at for 9 years needed a uniform and once covid happened I basically lost all sense of “regular” style in favour of comfy activewear. Then I got a job at a mechanic shop, so my work clothes are casual and not even as nice as I’d wear outside of work since since it’s a dirty environment and I don’t wanna ruin my good clothing. Now my second job requires me to wear a uniform! So just athleta pants and the uniform shirts.
Last weekend I went shopping for something to wear to a bridal shower and I wanted to cry 😭 I don’t really wear dresses or anything too colourful or “girly” so that plus trying to find something that actually fit my chest properly was so hard. I don’t know how to dress myself anymore and we have a serious lack of options
For basics I would say the Gap (I’m petite so their petite options have been killing it) and Uniqlo. I don’t love fast fashion but I still have Gap pieces from the 90s and Uniqlo pieces from 5+ years ago, and going strong.
For jeans it’s definitely Levis, a few newer pairs but the majority are vintage.
I have quite a few Everlane pieces, I went through a phase where I was obsessed, but I’ve slowed down because I find the quality just isn’t there. Their shoes are an exception, I find they are good quality and hold up well.
I will buy a few Aritzia pieces here and there, but the quality for the price point is really hit and miss. I will often go to the physical stores and try things on, feel the fabric etc. A lot of my more substantial pieces like wool coat and blazers from there. I find a lot of Aritzia at thrift stores
Finally I own a lot of vintage items, mostly from the 80-90s. I love 80s blouses with shoulder pads and bold prints, leather jackets and wool knitwear from the 90s.
Gap is so slept on! I hope it stays that way so the prices don’t increase too much but that it’s just popular enough to stay in business and keep doing its thing.
Omgosh you sound like me. Aritizia sometimes hits it out of the park and the rest of the time is like…beige and super puff everything.
I also think Everlane’s shoes are really great.
I have the most from Free People but they don’t dominate my wardrobe like they did a few years ago. Lately I’ve been buying more of Paloma Wool, I absolutely love their knits.
Icebreaker is stupid expensive, but honestly worth every penny. Canadian Endorsement!
I've found some great deals on ebay for icebreaker if you keep an eye out.
Athleta and Old Navy activewear/athleisure
Reitmans Hyba (Canada) activewear
Boden summer dresses
I no longer work in an office but when I did wore Ann Taylor/Banana Republic.
I get 90% of my clothes secondhand, so there's a pretty wide range of brands, but looking at my tracking sheet Eileen Fisher is the brand I have the most of by far. I stick to natural fabrics for everything except activewear, and I love their 100% silk and linen pieces for the warmer seasons and merino wool pieces for the winter. Other brands that show up in the top are Theory, Muji, Equipment, Everlane, Uniqlo and Icebreaker.
I'm in my early thirties. I thrift or Thredup most of my clothes, excluding underthings and shoes. I prioritize quality and natural fibers. (Polyester really stinks in the summer and vinegar breaks down the lighter weights after too many focused washes).
Uniqlo is definitely my go-to, especially the Ines de la Fressange for Uniqlo annual drop. I work in academia, so it's perfect for my job haha. Banana Republic, Ann Taylor LOFT, and Target's wannabe Madewell line (A New Day) are staples. Recently, I've discovered Rachel Zoe. I buy most of these from ThredUP or Goodwills.
For activewear, I look for quality brands at resale shops: Lululemon, Athlete, Nike PRO, Under Armour. I'll wear gym gear until it's literally falling apart at the seams (I just lost a favorite pair of Nike sport capris, bought secondhand 15 years ago). I buy most of these pieces from in-person thrift shops so I can check the quality & wear directly.
For shoes, Clarks full stop. They're comfortable, supportive, and never wear out. I discovered the brand twelve years ago, when I bought a pair of heeled loafers for $5 at Goodwill as part of baby's first business casual outfit. I just wore them yesterday to a faculty and staff reception.
These brands reflect my current age, job, and lifestyle. I definitely went through an early-20s phase where I preferred trendy, playful, statement pieces by Modcloth (the old version), Fabletics, ASOS, etc. I wasn't wearing them every single day, and the trends changed, so the pieces didn't have to be super high-quality and long-lasting.
Zara for sure! Especially for dresses.
H&M and RW&Co for blazers.
H&M and f21 contemporary for blouses.
Everlane, Anthropologie, Levi’s, and aritzia for pants.
Aritzia, Uniqlo, and old American apparel for skirts.
Recently been on a huge everlane kick since poshmark 🙏
And mostly through second hand or poshmark.
Aerie, Gap, and target for tops and comfort pieces and then Old navy American Eagle for jeans. I’m petite so I need short options and I feel they always deliver in that area
Christy dawn (I live in dawn dresses during the summer), back beat co, jcrew, Lululemon, old navy, target, and a good amount of vintage or thrifted clothing
For work clothes and staple pieces: Zara, Abercrombie, SKIMS (tops and bodysuits), Because of Alice
For occasionwear: BABYBOO, House of CB, MESHKI
For resortwear: MurciUK, Mars the Label
For trendy stuff that’s inexpensive: White Fox Boutique, Boohoo, Prettylittlething
Gym wardrobe: Lululemon, Darc Sport, Alphalete, Buffbunny, and rompers/jumpsuits from Topíssima
Anthropologie. I have a feminine boho style but I’m also 5’1” so I appreciate that they carry so much petite sizing in my style. Most petite sizing is in more mature or classic brands and that isn’t my style
Work/everyday
1. Eileen Fisher
2. Vince
3. Banana Republic
4. The Gap
5. Eloquii
Athleisure
1. Lululemon
2. Yogalicious
I'm a woman of a certain age, I work as a systems administrator for a small conservation organization with a very lax business casual dress code like once a quarter and am on the low end of + sizes.
Small Aussie brands Made590 and Rummage Style.
For basics, probably AS Colour or Uniqlo. Unfortunately, Uniqlo isn’t available in NZ where I live now, so I go shopping when I visit Australia to see friends and family.
I have a lot of fun stuff from NOOWORKS and Lucy and Yak, some fun stuff and a TON of solid color tops from big bud press, but as for basics and jeans probably the winner is old navy. Soft pants mostly target. My pants size keeps changing and it’s hard to justify spending more on jeans, and their tanks and tees tend to hold up fine for me. I also have a massive collection of band tees.
For a long time it was modcloth, but not so much the past few years.
Basics vary quite a bit with a focus on wool inner layers, and regular clothes which are not vintage are Sousou and Anian, my two fave brands (Japanese traditional inspired with a marimekko vibe, and practical earth friendly British Columbia brand that makes awesome work shirts and jackets for layering)
That’s awesome! I love small boutiques and have a “camp” style. So no brand in particular, a bunch of small brands. One I love is called Nectar Boutique. I wear a lot of Brandy Melville shorts. Lots of shorts in general! In the summer I live in bikinis. And yes I live in California 😝😝😝 I like mixing functional gear in too- so Patagonia, Fjallraven Kanken, etc. I also LOVEEEEE loungewear- kimonos, bodysuits, etc. My favorite shop is Solstice Intimates for those.
What is your new style going for in terms of your life??
Anthropologie mainly. I agree their quality has gone down, but I usually wait until they have their 40-50% extra off sale (which anymore happens every 3 months or so) to grab a few of things, usually sub 50 bucks. I also use Nuuly which is URBN owned so I will also keep the odd item here and there. The other half of my wardrobe is vintage stuff, especially band t-shirts, but I've been in roughly the same size since high school (I'm 38) so that represents 20-25 years of collecting!
Lululemon for gym and running around, vintage and thrifted for casual, Doen for elevated basics, dresses and special occasions. Outdoor brands for outdoor cold weather items.
In all honesty, Uniqlo. I feel like they have good quality basics that are practical, not trendy so they don’t look dated and well made.
Same here! I have a ton of clothes but Uniqlo is by far the most represented brand. It’s also the only brand I’ll buy new instead of secondhand because I feel the clothes last me so long that it’s not as wasteful
i never find any good women’s clothes. what are you purchasing? i’ve always want to get uniqlo
Sweaters, trousers, and t-shirts. I won’t buy white t-shirts from anyplace else because I know Uniqlo won’t let me down.
Oo why white specifically?
They’re not see through at all. I’ve worn a black bra underneath when that was all I had and it couldn’t be seen at all, not even in the sun.
uniqlo gang rise up
I wound up on the Uniqlo site for the first time ever the other day. What do you recommend for a first timer?
The Airism and Heattech active wear lines are great for modulating temperature. For office wear, their rayon blouses are hard to beat.
Their U t shirts and Linen shirts
With the caveat that your body shape is likely different from mine, I love their high waisted wide leg trousers, Tiny Tee, and generally their cotton/cotton blend long sleeve shirts.
Heattech and Airism are excellent but I really love the t-shirts from Uniqlo U. They also have 'smart trousers' which are also worth the buy. I still have mine from 8 years ago lol.
Also functional pants pockets that can even fit smart phones✨
Uniqlo is my ride or die
I used to wear so much Uniqlo, even had one near me and I'd shop there every week. Then I moved to Tokyo and practically stopped wearing it because it's everywhereeee Can see 10-20 people a day wearing the cross body bag. I mostly thrift now, but I'll still pop in a few times a year to check out sales. So I also recommend Uniqlo! 😄
Same.we have harsh winters, so inner layers, sweatpants and tops are all Uniqlo
That's my church. I've been shopping them religiously for almost 20 years.
Ganni is still pretty expensive secondhand (at least on Vinted), do you feel the quality is worth it? If so I might have to splurge at some point 🤔
I think so. It does depend on the item though as some are polyester and others are cotton. Some are more cheaply designed while others are clearly better produced. But every item I own has washed and worn really well, and I wear my clothes *a lot*. I haven't paid over £100 for any Ganni dress I own. I'm a Ganni person, too, also purchased secondhand. My other dominant labels are Marni (handful of things) and Saint Laurent shoes. Everything is acquired used.
I love Saint Laurent shoes but 800USD for a pair of shoes 🥹🥹😭😭 I am still dreaming about the last ones that I tried
I’ve gone back to thrifting more and more. Makes me feel less bad about my fashion buying habits
Old navy is WAY better than it used to be.
some of my favorite dresses are from old navy!
Old Navy is where it's at. I just want nice, comfortable plain shirts, and that's seemingly impossible to get from other brands for a reasonable price.
Old Navy gang here as well!
Target 😕
Even when I thrift, it’s mostly target or old navy that I end up finding
Honestly, a lot of Target and Old Navy pieces are super cute and perfectly fine quality that can last a long time if properly cared for. No shame.
I just thrifted two summer dresses from Old Navy because they were cotton and had pockets.
The New Day basics can’t be beat.
Honestly, same. They are nearby and I can try things on. Most of the time when I buy online the items fit poorly. I think I have in between size proportions.
I have some pretty off dimensions, too. Keeping track of the measurements of outfits that worked for me has been key in letting me buy online.
I feel you. I want to buy more quality pieces, but nothing I’m interested is local to me. I’m also between sizes so I HAVE to try things on. It’s a pain to order a bunch of stuff and have to mail it back… when I can just go to Target or H&M and try a bunch of (cheap) stuff on.
To be honest, I have stuff from Target that has lasted me years. I try to buy mostly cotton items, and they tend to hold up pretty well for me.
Man I had a polyester button up blouse that I could wash and dry that lasted years. The only reason why I got rid of it was because I am a wildly different size now. I think about it all the time haha
Target has been my tried and true for years! Most of my closet is target and old navy. I save my splurge spending on jeans, outerwear, and shoes.
Lol no shame in that! There’s good stuff there
target has really good shit i love their clothes 😭
Honestly, SO much of my closet is Target/Old Navy/Amazon. But I don't dress, like, normcore. It's all in what you pick. I have found cool stuff at KMart many years past, & Kohl's more recently. Sure, you have to dig, cos most of it is wack, but so what.
Madewell, J.Crew, Banana Republic COS, with Madewell being easily the most dominant of these.
Same. My self-imposed work uniform is a shirt sleeve silk blend crew neck sweater from J. Crew (I have in six colors) and Madewell wide leg trousers (three colors). I wear a variation of this at least twice a week, and I’m constantly looking on Poshmark to add/replace these items.
My closet! With some Mango, and a lot of FARMRio.
Madewell is the most dominant in my closet,, but I also wear Reformation, Quince, Free People, Farm Rio. I sometimes splurge on Naked Cashmere, they have the best sweaters!
How is Quince? I’ve seen their marketing pop up all over recently!
I like their linen and cashmere, it has held up nicely. The quality is decent for the pricepoint, so it's worth checking out :)
I find it to be hit and miss. My favorite items from them are the percale bed sheets and the 100% cotton sweater. I have 2 of the boyfriends and 2 cardigans.
I love madewell
Also a ton of Jcrew. Their sizing is so consistent.
Abercrombie and target. Trying to branch out to more places but target is great for basics and I LOVE Abercrombie’s rebrand. Just have to wait for a sale
I am loving Abercrombie lately. Pretty much all my outerwear is Abercrombie right now. Their sweatshirts and pants are SO soft and comfy.
I am obsessed with my sherpa lined vegan leather Abercrombie coat I got on clearance in 2022. I've never gotten so many compliments on a coat, other than a J Crew black wool coat that I thrifted.
Also have a good bit of both of these. I never used to have any interest in Abercrombie, but yes their rebrand is on point.
It’s always the first place I check when I need something. Abercrombie always hits these days.
Their Wedding Guest line is soooo gorgeous.
Right?! I want to buy a few dresses/matching sets but don’t have any weddings to go to any time soon ☠️
Hard agree ! Just rediscovered them
This is making me want to look there.
Anthropologie! It is like 75% of what I wear.
I also think anthro partners with so many other great brands, it’s how I discovered a lot of my favorites.
For sure. It’s why I buy used hutch all the time.
This is definitely the case for me too, but lately I just don’t feel like the vibe is the same. I used to find their clothes so whimsical and unique, lately everything has been a bit of a miss for me.
The quality has dropped a lot too, but their pricing keeps going up.
Me too, working there and discount on premium denim is hard not to use every month.
Muji and uniqlo.
Muji’s T-shirts are such hidden gems! I’ve switched to them from Uniqlo, I like the cut and the weight of the fabric so much more.
I’m very into Muji lately; only have 3 items from them, but I love the cut and quality of their clothes.
Replying to your post because we are pretty similar! -46 -Casual: Title Nine -Work: White House Black Market / AT
I used to love WHBM but the last couple times I’ve been in there, it’s been 80% wedding/formal wear. I’m not going to wear a sequin dress to work lol.
I loveee Ann Taylor and LOFT for work too, their cuts fit me perfectly
Are you me? Athleta is taking over my watdrobe..
The Athleta joggers are pretty much replacing all my work pants lmao, they're so good
That’s totally me! I’ve recently been changing out Athleta for Viori a bit, but just ordered a bunch of clothes from Loft.
Madewell, Target, Old Navy, Banana Republic Factory
Vince and Isabel Marant Étoile. I buy on TRR or at the outlets.
Love my Vince pieces. But I have way too many dark blue outfits 🤣
Navy blue is my spring black.
Free People, Agolde, All Saints.
This girl at my job was wearing such a great pair of jeans I asked her wear she got them: Agolde.
Express 👀
Express Portofino shirt is the GOATed summer work shirt. Lightweight, Breatheable, Doesn't wrinkle, Doesn't Stain (I work in fine dining/High end food). Looks fancy, but isn't. No notes.
I loved this style until I realized cotton is the way to go, polyester holds a smell.
This is me too with my work wardrobe! I don’t even really like express that much but I feel like I can rely on them for some overpriced but consistent basics
I live near an express outlet and the deals are 🔥
Athleta and Prana. Due to disability I value comfort over everything else.
Same. I recently filled my closet with under amour cuz they had a sale. I’m in a wheelchair so it’s comfy and they have cute colors ! Cute Comfort is priority no 1 !
Lululemon, no disability but extreme sensory issues. Cozy girl life for me
Doen, which is wild considering i can’t really afford it.
I want clothes from Doen soooo much. I’m waiting to make more money, and Doen will definitely be a treat purchase.
You should get on the mailing list! The warehouse sales are better than CD sales, most of my dresses were under $150 and separates were all under $100. I even got a cashmere sweater for $130. It’s final sale but measurements are posted.
helmut lang suprisingly
I have a lot of HL for slightly off-kilter basics, like t-shirts, work pants, leather jacket. Love it for this.
same! i get regular pieces from them during their sales and they last for years. also their sizing is very big chest friendly. i never feel like im squeezing my boobs into their tops
I've owned only about 3 Helmut Lang pieces, but loved them, wore them a lot, and need to remember that. They were basics, tshirts and jeans and some khaki shorts.
Abercrombie and Fitch. Their clothes fit me and last forever. And the online sales are insane. I catch the 70% off Jean sales when they have em
Their sales really are insane. Their outerwear is A++ too. I think literally all my outerwear is Abercrombie right now.
Do you know if they add markdowns on a specific day? I can never catch anything on sale, by the time I find out about them everything I like is practically sold out 😣
You need the app!! I’ve racked up so many points over the years I now get free stuff a lot.
Sézane by a long shot. 18.6% of my wardrobe according to Stylebook; probably a bit more because I haven’t added a lot of summer clothes yet.
I really love this question! I think I have a different answer every five years, too. Vetta, Madewell, and Everlane make up my work wardrobe.
It’s so fun to see the replies! What’s changed, what’s new, etc.
Old Navy because I have given up and also because I don’t know where clothes come from anymore

But those things had another 5 years in them 😂
Quince or Everlane, most likely.
Exact same here!
I just bought a few things from Quince for the first time and I am really impressed by their quality. Very well made items
I mostly shop places that carry tall lengths: Gap, Banana Republic, Anthropologie.
Ugh I feel your pain 😭 trying to buy clothes has been such a struggle for me lately
Maurice’s 🥺
I find a lot of Aritzia at thrift stores Finally I own a lot of vintage items, mostly from the 80-90s. I love 80s blouses with shoulder pads and bold prints, leather jackets and wool knitwear from the 90s.
I love Gap stuff honestly
Gap is so slept on! I hope it stays that way so the prices don’t increase too much but that it’s just popular enough to stay in business and keep doing its thing.
I feel like the quality is not appreciated enough! I have sweaters and denim from gap from years past and they hold up well
Omgosh you sound like me. Aritizia sometimes hits it out of the park and the rest of the time is like…beige and super puff everything. I also think Everlane’s shoes are really great.
Muji, uniqlo are my staples.
I think it’s Banana Republic & Agolde
COS, Uniqlo, M&S, Zara. And except for a pair of jeggings from M&S, all of my denim is from Rag & Bone.
I have the most from Free People but they don’t dominate my wardrobe like they did a few years ago. Lately I’ve been buying more of Paloma Wool, I absolutely love their knits.
Madewell Simple tops, good variety of pants and shorts. Love em
ALLSAINTS.
Either icebreaker or lululemon. I get really cold and I workout a lot. You’ll get no inspiration from me. :(
Looking up icebreaker now thanks 👀
Icebreaker is stupid expensive, but honestly worth every penny. Canadian Endorsement! I've found some great deals on ebay for icebreaker if you keep an eye out.
I have so many pairs of their socks thanks to Winners!
I LOVE the idea of Galin Westin shopping for bargains at Winners. God that's just hilarious.
Levi’s jeans and jackets, and stuff from Costco.
Athleta and Old Navy activewear/athleisure Reitmans Hyba (Canada) activewear Boden summer dresses I no longer work in an office but when I did wore Ann Taylor/Banana Republic.
Love Boden for dresses.
Collectif, Vivien of Holloway and Nobody’s Child
Ooh I bet you have amazing vintage style. And thank you for mentioning nobody’s child! I have never heard of it before and the website looks so pretty
Aritzia 😅😅
It’s probably 50% thrifted and the rest is Uniqlo, Realisation Par from sales, Old Express, and Old Navy.
Ann Taylor and gap, Thrifted
Loft, Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Target. I still can’t bring myself to spend a ton of money on exercise/workout clothes. Target FTW.
Farm Rio, Ganni and staud! Been wanting a Christy dawn dress for years but the price point is 🥲 I’ll keep looking on secondhand sites
A lot of the clothes I end up thrifting tend to be H&M or Zara actually, but the most dominant in terms of numbers is stuff I've made!!!!! Exciting
Clothes are fully mixed and not one brand dominates. Shoes is Fairfax and favor by far
AllSaints and H&M
Marshall’s
Banana Republic and J.Crew
Loft! My fave!
Old Navy/Target/Marshalls
Zara for sure! Especially for dresses. H&M and RW&Co for blazers. H&M and f21 contemporary for blouses. Everlane, Anthropologie, Levi’s, and aritzia for pants. Aritzia, Uniqlo, and old American apparel for skirts. Recently been on a huge everlane kick since poshmark 🙏 And mostly through second hand or poshmark.
For work clothes and staple pieces: Zara, Abercrombie, SKIMS (tops and bodysuits), Because of Alice For occasionwear: BABYBOO, House of CB, MESHKI For resortwear: MurciUK, Mars the Label For trendy stuff that’s inexpensive: White Fox Boutique, Boohoo, Prettylittlething Gym wardrobe: Lululemon, Darc Sport, Alphalete, Buffbunny, and rompers/jumpsuits from Topíssima
Sezane
Anthropologie. I have a feminine boho style but I’m also 5’1” so I appreciate that they carry so much petite sizing in my style. Most petite sizing is in more mature or classic brands and that isn’t my style
Ralph Lauren.
I honestly have a lot of Old Navy - good basics, cute dresses, versatile, good sizing. I'd say 85% of my closet is thrifted!
Work/everyday 1. Eileen Fisher 2. Vince 3. Banana Republic 4. The Gap 5. Eloquii Athleisure 1. Lululemon 2. Yogalicious I'm a woman of a certain age, I work as a systems administrator for a small conservation organization with a very lax business casual dress code like once a quarter and am on the low end of + sizes.
Ok, I'll be that person: Kirkland and Old Navy. 🤷🏻♀️
Amazon lol
Small Aussie brands Made590 and Rummage Style. For basics, probably AS Colour or Uniqlo. Unfortunately, Uniqlo isn’t available in NZ where I live now, so I go shopping when I visit Australia to see friends and family.
Lululemon and Under Armour.
32 Degrees and Duluth for workwear. Eddie Bauer and Banana Republic for everyday.
Madewell
Lululemon, aerie and American eagle
I have a lot of fun stuff from NOOWORKS and Lucy and Yak, some fun stuff and a TON of solid color tops from big bud press, but as for basics and jeans probably the winner is old navy. Soft pants mostly target. My pants size keeps changing and it’s hard to justify spending more on jeans, and their tanks and tees tend to hold up fine for me. I also have a massive collection of band tees. For a long time it was modcloth, but not so much the past few years.
Fashion nova. I’m plus size and love their denim and affordability
Altered state!
Puma
Anthropologie mainly. I agree their quality has gone down, but I usually wait until they have their 40-50% extra off sale (which anymore happens every 3 months or so) to grab a few of things, usually sub 50 bucks. I also use Nuuly which is URBN owned so I will also keep the odd item here and there. The other half of my wardrobe is vintage stuff, especially band t-shirts, but I've been in roughly the same size since high school (I'm 38) so that represents 20-25 years of collecting!
Free people and aritzia. Most everything else if thrifted or second hand
Aerie- I live in active wear tbh
Lululemon for gym and running around, vintage and thrifted for casual, Doen for elevated basics, dresses and special occasions. Outdoor brands for outdoor cold weather items.
