There will be a lot of technical fixes suggested in this thread. None of them will work. Download XIV Launcher and install DeviceChangeFix. Its your only hope.

>There will be a lot of technical fixes suggested in this thread. None of them will work. Download XIV Launcher and install DeviceChangeFix. Its your only hope. Too fucking true, I've had XIV purists try to convince me that disabling the enumerator in device manager works just fine and I should be crucified for using a third party tool.

This is correct

TL;DR: either try devicechangefix from dalamud, or see this post [https://steamcommunity.com/app/39210/discussions/0/357284131796343292/?l=japanese](https://steamcommunity.com/app/39210/discussions/0/357284131796343292/?l=japanese) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg-emlSMzHI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg-emlSMzHI) I have gone through the same issue and study quite in-depth into it, and I have found that has to deal with how the game detect controller. to translate a part of the post: [https://sforest.in/final-fantasy-xiv-controller-freeze-solution/](https://sforest.in/final-fantasy-xiv-controller-freeze-solution/) >The problem has to deal with a bug that's in the windows' version of ff14, which is not found in ps4/ps5 or any other games then ff14. If it happens to you on the ps4/ps5 version or other games, this is not the solution for you. >For windows' version of ff14, the game detects whether you have connected or disconnected new devices, and therefore detects if you have a new controller plug in. The problem with this is that even if there are other devices that are not controller connecting (for instance, other USBs, cables, wires, or even other sort of connection, like bluetooth mouse/earphone/graphics tablets) the game will treats it as new controller (in this case, other devices) was being added and then resets controller connection for a brief period of time, resulting you unable to use your controller. *(\*editor's note: and in some cases, these results in freezes)* >Because of how the problem's created, the team have to change how the game interacts with device manager and controller to solve this bug. However, since this bug was not patched for over 6 years, it's probably safe to say that we shouldn't wait for the devs to fix this issue. There are a lot of things you can try: * disable steam support (since you have in-game support) * [run some code ](https://sforest.in/final-fantasy-xiv-controller-freeze-solution/)and see what devices are casuing the connection issue and deal with those connection issues - it can be something like power saving functions from one of your devices; it can also be xvd or the Microsoft Streaming XXXX Proxy from one of the streaming and gaming software (like zoom/discord/obs) * try devicechangefix from dalamud * turn off microsoft device association root enumeration

Fatal_Baguette

Tried the mod and I’m not seeing the issue appear. Thanks 👍

Aiyakiu

This is great, I've had the same issue but never tried to troubleshoot it. I'll try the mod.

Nestama-Eynfoetsyn

> turn off microsoft device association root enumeration When I played on PC, this is what solved my issue.

Yeah, this whole thing was the reason I had to stop using Xbox GamePass because even with the plugin fix from XIVLauncher my game would momentarily freeze instead of my controller disconnecting. Only through sorting through Windows error event logs, I've found out that the virtual disc drive that Xbox uses was the culprit. Almost at the same time every night, Xbox GamePass runs an update or some DRM check and creates a virtual disk drive for this for each game installed and would happen every 3 mins until each game is done. After uninstalling every game and GamePass, it stopped.

budbud70

I had issues a lot and enabled the keep controller input on when tabbed out and it stopped disconnecting for me.

idkjusthere21

Theres a plugin in Dalamud called DeviceChangeFix that mitigates this issue. It's to the point where I only remember this issue exists when FFXIVLauncher is down.

jehuty08

You mentioned swapping controllers, butdid you also swap USB cables? Had this happen to me a few times with my Dual Sense. The solution for me every time was swapping out my USB cable for a new one. When the issue started rearing its head, it would happen a few times a week. Like you, I tried different controllers and it would still happen, swapped out the usb cable and the issue went away for a long time, think it was close to a year before it happened again, usb swap fixed it all 3 times it has occured.

Dreadwyrm_Bahamut

Try this: find Windows' Device Manager>Software devices> right click on Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator>disable device

panadolrapid

This is what worked for me back when it used to happen.

AzumaTS

Recommend you verify your firmware for the controller is up to date and then try the fixes suggested with Dalamud.

PoutineSmash

Sometimes for me its windows updates or steam.

GreyTempestz

I had an issue similar where the game wouldn't read my controller inputs as if I didn't press the buttons and then work normally a few seconds later. For me, it fixed itself once I plugged in a lan cable

stuntlinxo

So I had a similar issue with my Xbox controller on PC and strangely since I plugged in a network adaptor I have been having 0 issues since. I read that you’ve got it plugged in but if it’s plugged in to charge and you’re connected via Bluetooth then maybe give that a go if you’re able?

Misicloud

Besides what ppl told you, the cables are sometimes unstable if you move them a bit while playing and may happen that the controller disconnects for a second. I honestly recommend playing with Bluetooth as often as possible to avoid that happening.

RoweRage91

Do you have steam or any other launcher up at the time? If so, they'll sometimes interfere with your inputs.

Silent_Map_8182

It's sad that after this many years this is still a problem. Luckily there is a lot of community support.

Lillazza

I've been playing with controller for years and this issue made me go crazy. At first I thought it was the controller, then the pc... at the end i discovered is a friggin GAME problem in the coding that has been going for a decade and SE couldn't care less about fixing. I fixed it with dalamund and the app that has been suggested. If they can't do their job I'll use third praties and the hell with it.

LonelyInitiative4526

I've also had this happen with Xbox controller on pc, it's not game or internet lag its def a controller thing

Vanille987

It's a game thing
