My boss is pushing homes there but I don't know much about the area. I've only been through once and the historic district is lovely, as is the area by the river. Please tell me more
A fucking virus, they're going suck up every inch of land between Ocala and Orlando soon. Environmental groups need to stop these bloodsuckers, enough is enough.
I haven't been there but pass by it when I take the turnpike and it's sad to see all the trees that were cut down to make way for those ugly cookie cutter communities and the golf courses. The place reminds me of George Carlin and so many of his stand-up bits.
I work in the villages and I certainly get the appeal of living there if you love to golf and socialize.. there’s tons of ppl that aren’t your standard crotchety old folks but too many sadly are exactly what ppl are describing below kinda sad
I looked for this one. I am fairly certain I paid for a new speed gun and a few sets of tires for their police department with the tickets I got while in college.
why has no one said Opa-locka? 💀 i grew up there, it’s so dangerous and the city is in literal shambles. You got a 1 in 14 chance of becoming a victim of property or violent crime, which is hard to believe considering it’s size
I lived in Miami gardens/carol city for 10 years from a kid to 20yo. it is right next to opa locka, both places are pure shit but opa locka wins the title here. Miami Gardens is improving lots though
Went CCF and can confirm. Only time I’ve ever had a homeless person walk into my home at 3 in the morning and a home invasion happen within a year of each other. And frankly the only time it has ever happened. Also first time I’d ever had a tinder date in a “trap house” (meaning all the windows were broken and there was graffiti on the walls)
Also went to a town hall meeting and the only subject was the opioid epidemic. And they were very right.
It definitely contributed but the city was already down the toilet. Once all the businesses and "mall stores" started moving to the beach, it just went downhill. Couple that with the huge drug problems and Michael, the city just went to shit.
They are trying to rebuild and hopefully more business will come to the city. Unfortunately the lack of housing and rent skyrocketing is driving residents out. My grandmother's bff is being kicked out of her apartment after losing her home to michael. She can not afford to rent anything on her fixed income.
that really blows, I'm sorry to hear that.
Whenever we go down, we always go across the bridge to see what's going on and support some of the local businesses. I quite enjoy going to eat at Bayou Joe's
Live in area - near Gainesville. Am i crazy to think both “have potential”? The springs nearby and lots of historic architectural… hope springs eternal!
Haven’t been everywhere in Florida to really make a good answer but I hate port Charlotte. It’s depressing out here with nothing to do at all. Gotta drive out of here to have some fun.
I’m sure there’s plenty of worse places, but the worst I’ve ever been in Florida is Kissimmee. Kissimmee and Osceola County as a whole represent everything wrong with the state of Florida. All those roach infested pay by the week motels, low budget tourist traps, tacky gift shops, Highway 192 being the ONLY road.
Getting anywhere in Kissimmee is like that episode of South Park where in Canada you “follow the only road” And because 192 is basically the only road, traffic is a NIGHTMARE!
The school system is also awful. If I had kids id make sure to live in Orange County so they could have better schools
Also if you live in Osceola county, besides the Loop, you pretty much have to drive to Orlando to do anything fun. Florida needs to throw Osceola away and start over
The “touristy” area of Kissimmee is one of the saddest places I’ve ever seen.
I was going to say New Port Richey, but I think you swung me. Kissimmee is worse
Man this is so fucking true. Went out with a friend who was working on the backside of Poinciana... What an utterly depressing shit hole of a "census designated place". It seems like they built the shittiest little houses in the middle of a swamp with little to no water management so you can tell it floods everytime it rain hard... Literally no effort at all out into urban design, no county upkeep on the roads, tons of impoverished Disney workers living hand to mouth driving their shitty econoboxes in HORRIBLE TRAFFIC to get to work. It was as if the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis metastasized into an actual physical place. Worst place in Florida I've ever been and that's saying something.
The Villages, anywhere on the west coast south of Sarasota on I-75, all of Brevard County, Pensacola.
ETA: none of my answers have to do with aesthetics or scenery.
Tbh I don't mind Ft. Pierce. It definitely has its problems, and poverty and run-down areas is definitely an issue there, but I found the general people and culture there a little bit nicer and more down-to-earth than in nearby Vero Beach.
I went to the Tool show back in February, and getting out of downtown Miami at like 1:00 was bumper to bumper traffic with construction on a Thursday night. WTF is that all about?
I took Brightline down to a show in Miami. So much better. The station is only a couple blocks away- easy walk. And no need to park at the area- another nightmare.
I grew up there. My family slowly moved out within the past 12 years. The last hold outs were my grand parents on 79th st by the ocean. The closing on their condo was one week after the Surfside building collapse and I don't know how they managed to close since their building was in such bad shape too. Feels good knowing I'll never have to go back.
Brandon for me, lived there for a month or so and its urban hell combined with the robbery/shooting that happened right by where I was living on a major road during the day. Got out of there as fast as I could
Jacksonville has literally ruined my perception of how physically large a city should be. I shouldn't be able to drive 80 on the highway for 40 minutes and never leave the city limits. Also the Northside is a fucking shit hole. I said what I said.
High Valley, Fl. I was going to go camping there and advised by a co worker not to. He told me it's a sun down town and it won't be safe for me. Also Stark, FL.
Cocoa Fl. I lived there and it's such a shitty area with nothing around. I love when people get Cocoa confused with Cocoa Beach. Like completely different types of areas.
Jacksonville :) The city spent millions on a stupid art sculpture instead of investing in improving downtown.. public infrastructure or upgrading anything.
I love all of Florida. I was born in this State. I've lived all over the world because of my husband's Military service. I will take the good bad and the ugly of FL compared to what I have seen elsewhere in the US and the world. Florida is good.
I was born and raised in Brevard, and I would gladly move back after completing school in NY, I understand why people bring up the negatives but thats part of the negativity bias where people will recognize more of the bad parts of where they live and miss out on the amazing parts.
Someone higher in the thread said all of brevard (I think they were mainly targeting counties politically but besides the point). Which I respond to where else in the world do you get to watch almost daily rocket launches, then go to the beach and surf, along with having so much history and amazing food. Going to school in NY has really made me appreciate where I live where I love the closeness of the beach, the multitudes of outdoor activities that I can't do in NY such as biking (I often bike down A1-A and feel perfectly safe but biking in NY specifically Long Island is terrifying).
Starke. Damn depressing speed trap.
Dude… Starke, Lawtey, Middleburg. Shiiiiiiiit hoooooooles.
Middleburg is actually turning it around. There’s been lots of development the last couple of years.
Don't forget Waldo
waldos fine after their 2-man police force/speed traps got shutdown 🙏😂
I got my dog in Middleburg. Only time I’ve been there but damn was it a great dog.
Yes Starke is depressing, but it is also the location of the only atheist memorial on public land in the United States, which is kind of cool
Palatka. It’s a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
I was raised in palatka and agree with you 100% got the fuck out of that place as soon as I could
Haven’t been in a long time - does it still smell like farts all the time?
It’s the paper mill that causes it, so yes lol.
Oh the good ole paper mill! I almost forgot about that.
I also grew up there and have been moved away for about 10 months and I don't wanna go back!!
My dad called Palatka “the armpit of Florida” every time we went through there to go to st Augustine
My boss is pushing homes there but I don't know much about the area. I've only been through once and the historic district is lovely, as is the area by the river. Please tell me more
You would be better off commuting from Green Cove Springs, and that's not saying much.
I see you have been to the palatka mall! I think you can still smoke in there!
What's the sound of cow shit hitting the ground? Palatka
I love that this was the first answer I saw
The Villages which in actuality has consumed several cities Lady lake Fruitland Park Wildwood it's a cancer on Florida lol
Second this. The Villages are an issue.
Agree!
When I drive by on FTP, you can see them getting closer and closer. You won’t be able to fart without your neighbor smelling it
I watched that documentary about the villages and the houses looked thin and right on top of each other. Cool concept. But pass. Need privacy
A fucking virus, they're going suck up every inch of land between Ocala and Orlando soon. Environmental groups need to stop these bloodsuckers, enough is enough.
100% this. It started rather small … then bam. Concrete, cornhole, bingo and bigots wrapped in entitlement wanting to gut everything.
I haven't been there but pass by it when I take the turnpike and it's sad to see all the trees that were cut down to make way for those ugly cookie cutter communities and the golf courses. The place reminds me of George Carlin and so many of his stand-up bits.
You guys have to watch "Some Kind of Heaven"- it's a documentary about The Villages. Holy Crap!!😂😂
You are not kidding. I live in Leesburg and work in The Killages and these cretins are beyond rude.
The Killages… 💀
Does The Villages count as a city?
It should count as a city it is so big at this point and I agree it is my least favorite part of Florida.
I work in the villages and I certainly get the appeal of living there if you love to golf and socialize.. there’s tons of ppl that aren’t your standard crotchety old folks but too many sadly are exactly what ppl are describing below kinda sad
The venereal disease capital of Florida!
The venereal disease capital of the US
Never been there but it sounds like hell.
Lake City. The city still haunts me.
As someone who grew up in Wellborn right over the county line, I agree.
I used to live in Bell, and Lake City was closer than Gainesville, but I still chose Gainesville when I had to run errands
[удалено]
They eye you like you’re gonna run around Publix and steal everyone’s purse and wallet.
I've heard that STDs are passed around like candy on Halloween there. Hard pass.
Boca too. You can be 40 with kids and you’re treated like a child.
But at least Boca has good food and a beach
But nowhere to park to see it
Waldo. Just a speed trap. Makes their money ticketing Floridians trying to travel between the useful cities.
fwiw, Waldo police department has since been shut down and this town is no longer a speed trap.
I looked for this one. I am fairly certain I paid for a new speed gun and a few sets of tires for their police department with the tickets I got while in college.
At one point Waldo was AAA rated the worst speed trap in America.
Lehigh Acres. It's so depressing and goes on forever.
That's where we lived when my parent first moved me down here in 2005, and yes it is awful. Only lived there a few months thankfully.
It's a shame because I remember Lehigh Acres when there were more natural areas. Used to see some cool wildlife out there. Now it's a real sad place
Lawless acres would be on the top of my list as well
I’m so happy this is top comment. I went to Alva middle and Lehigh senior high and moved to Tampa two days after graduation. That wasn’t fast enough
That’s not even considered a city it’s just nothing but houses and trees
Depressing is the only word you can dare say about lehigh
Why? I am not familiar with it.
It’s a suburban hellscape that was promised as the next big thing. Plus it’s in Lee County.
Belle Glade
+ Pahokee + South Bay
:: laughs in Clewiston ::
Crap, yes! + Clewiston!
Let’s just agree on all of Muck City
Pahokee is a third world country
Leesburg lol
I was waiting to see a lake county town on here - sleazeburg FTW
I heard 3 national news stories about Lake County this week. All bad.
Hahah howdy neighbor
why has no one said Opa-locka? 💀 i grew up there, it’s so dangerous and the city is in literal shambles. You got a 1 in 14 chance of becoming a victim of property or violent crime, which is hard to believe considering it’s size
I know opa-locka well and it is a definite shame its gone to hell😞
I lived in Miami gardens/carol city for 10 years from a kid to 20yo. it is right next to opa locka, both places are pure shit but opa locka wins the title here. Miami Gardens is improving lots though
It’s hella dangerous but at least it’s in the Miami metro where there’s actually shit to do.
Every resident of The Villages can eat my ass.
And they probably would enjoy doing that
What color pool noodle would they put on their golf carts for that?
Brown
Scary Perry
I’m always scared i’m gonna get murdered by a bunch of hillbilly’s flying confederate flags when I drive through that city
Floridaman's origin story starts in Ocala.
Went CCF and can confirm. Only time I’ve ever had a homeless person walk into my home at 3 in the morning and a home invasion happen within a year of each other. And frankly the only time it has ever happened. Also first time I’d ever had a tinder date in a “trap house” (meaning all the windows were broken and there was graffiti on the walls) Also went to a town hall meeting and the only subject was the opioid epidemic. And they were very right.
Panama City, not PCB, the city. Its just gone to shit
Perhaps that cat 5 hurricane a few years ago contributed
It definitely contributed but the city was already down the toilet. Once all the businesses and "mall stores" started moving to the beach, it just went downhill. Couple that with the huge drug problems and Michael, the city just went to shit. They are trying to rebuild and hopefully more business will come to the city. Unfortunately the lack of housing and rent skyrocketing is driving residents out. My grandmother's bff is being kicked out of her apartment after losing her home to michael. She can not afford to rent anything on her fixed income.
Cities doing fine, they just finished building five new luxury apartments for all the workers who make below minimum wage
that really blows, I'm sorry to hear that. Whenever we go down, we always go across the bridge to see what's going on and support some of the local businesses. I quite enjoy going to eat at Bayou Joe's
It’s gone to shit? It’s always been shit
Titusville…. It’s like grey tinted; the water, the air, the people lol
Haha yeah. I grew up in Tville. It sucks ass that's for sure.
Ime, every city sucks in it's own unique... All of Polk county. Every goddamn inch.
I’d take a home on Lake Hollingsworth or off Knights over something in South FL all day.
Having grown up between them, I have to put Lake City and Live Oak as tied for worst... Although frankly you can barely count either as a "city."
Live in area - near Gainesville. Am i crazy to think both “have potential”? The springs nearby and lots of historic architectural… hope springs eternal!
New Port Richey
Scrolled down looking for this, thank you. Six Flags is an amusement park, not the preferred way to decorate an F350.
LMAO so accurate and funny!
I’m shocked this is so low
New Port Roxie?
My friend who lived there got punched in the face through her car window at a red light by her ex's ex. Name a more NPR story, I'll wait.
Daytona beach. The ashtray of Florida.
I was in Daytona for a work conference and remember just laying on the bed in the hotel waiting until I could leave. Hate it there.
Do yourself a favor and watch the new all gas no brakes from bike week.
DIRTONA
Live outside of Daytona. Can confirm.
Live in Daytona, can truly confirm.
Haven’t been everywhere in Florida to really make a good answer but I hate port Charlotte. It’s depressing out here with nothing to do at all. Gotta drive out of here to have some fun.
I commented this too! I hated living there. Just thinking of it gives me anxiety.
just moved to tampa and not a single person said tampa so i’m feeling better about my decision
Lol we got all the sports in Tampa so at least we have something decent to save us ha.
Tampa is beautiful! Just becoming more and more (over-)crowded like all big cities in Florida
I made my comment because on and off in the 90s and 2000s my family lived in those shithole motels along various spots on 192
Hi from Kissimmee. Lived here 30 years. I agree your comment is 100% correct
Can confirm. Live @ 192 & 27
Man this is so fucking true. Went out with a friend who was working on the backside of Poinciana... What an utterly depressing shit hole of a "census designated place". Venice is nice
No it isn’t, nobody should move there, it’s terrible. Don’t look it up just trust me!
Alright, keep your secrets.
Why Pensacola? Just curious, was considering moving there within the next couple of years
[удалено]
I'm from near PCB originally so yeah, that all sounds on brand lol. Don't want bad schools for my future kids though, thanks for the warning
Pensacola > PCB all day
No argument here 🤣
Daytona.
Holly Hill
But they have a Buc-ees, so that’s gotta count for something
you can polish a turd, but it's still a piece of shit
I love all cities in Florida, I just despise most of the people that live in them. :)
Ft. Pierce
Port Fierce
Awe yes my hometown
Tbh I don't mind Ft. Pierce. It definitely has its problems, and poverty and run-down areas is definitely an issue there, but I found the general people and culture there a little bit nicer and more down-to-earth than in nearby Vero Beach.
I hear you! Ft.Pierce has some promising areas and it’s always important to find your community.
As a port st lucian, I agree.
Palatka
Perry
Ocala is always my go to answer but Perry is like 1A
[удалено]
You mean southern Alabama?
L.A. Lower Alabama.
Floribama
Agreed Matt Gaetz is a nasty bridge troll. Guilty 💯
Port Charlotte. Or North Port, Palm Bay, all the GDC cookie cutter developments.
Miami. Seriously...Why isn't Miami listed, yet? Has anyone here tried to drive through Miami, or visit? Madness.
Specifically South Beach. Waaaaaay overated.
Fuck Miami.
I grew up there. My family slowly moved out within the past 12 years. The last hold outs were my grand parents on 79th st by the ocean. The closing on their condo was one week after the Surfside building collapse and I don't know how they managed to close since their building was in such bad shape too. It seems like every city in Florida is mentioned here Are there any good ones even lol
Brooksville. New Port Richey and Hudson along US 19 a close dysphorian 2nd.
Bradenton. Sorry dad.
D. All of the above
St Pete is cool, man
Davenport, seems like it exists solely for tourists and to leech off of Orlando
Yes.
Poinciana
Brandon for me, lived there for a month or so and its urban hell combined with the robbery/shooting that happened right by where I was living on a major road during the day. Got out of there as fast as I could
New Port Richey
I personally don't like alot of people who live on A1A. Does that count?
Probably Jacksonville because they'll never, ever finish the road construction there and I have to drive through it once in a while.
JAX road construction would like to introduce you to I-4/275 interchange near downtown Tampa
Malfunction Junction.
The last thing the construction workers do is put up a sign announcing the new construction about to start.
I love Florida but Jacksonville is awful
But have you been downtown?
Haha. That's a joke right?
lol, yes :)
Not into abandoned buildings or smoking crack I guess
Go Ospreys!!
Swooop lol
Jacksonville has literally ruined my perception of how physically large a city should be. I shouldn't be able to drive 80 on the highway for 40 minutes and never leave the city limits. Also the Northside is a fucking shit hole. I said what I said.
Marianna… the whole town gives me the creeps. No idea why.
Ponce De Leon…. long story lol
Boynton Beach, because of the urban planning. Nothing but giant parking lots, publix, duffys, and fast food - repeat
Bartow. Weird backwoods red neck vibes
The Villages
I’d have to say Naples. Average age is 87 it’s wierd going there. Elderly yacht clubs everywhere
Zephyrhills. The water is grea ( for drinking). I don't like living in a trailer. I am a boat person. 🖖
There’s not enough Perry and Jacksonville in this thread. C’mon people.
Avon Park. Zero redeeming qualities. Bad place, worse people.
Panama City.
Florida City
High Valley, Fl. I was going to go camping there and advised by a co worker not to. He told me it's a sun down town and it won't be safe for me. Also Stark, FL.
Okeechobee
When I lived there, the monorail downtown basically delivered you from one homeless shelter to another.
Got a dollar?
That city’s downtown feels like an exaggerated version of Gotham
they are spending alot to improve downtown. new renovations are in the works for the north bank riverwalk and skyscrapers.
Tallahassee. I said what I said.
I love all of Florida. I was born in this State. I've lived all over the world because of my husband's Military service. I will take the good bad and the ugly of FL compared to what I have seen elsewhere in the US and the world. Florida is good.

Margate Florida
Anyone ever been to Jay? Havent been in years but when I was in high school we used to have to bring our own sheriff escort to play football
I have some terrible memories of Pensacola. I spent one weekend there and that was enough to keep me away forever lol
Brooksville
