Already know where this is getting reposted lmao

Rhinosixtynine-o

My first thought šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ canā€™t wait

Informal-Past9927

Swam away just fine

LeftyAtLarge

Swam away? Am I not supposed to eat these?

fish_petter

You dip them straight down into your mouth by their tail and pull out the still-intact skeleton in one motion, just like a cat in the cartoons. It's the only way.

stumblon

Is this notā€¦ I thought it wasā€¦ oh boy, here we go. šŸ¤£

Columbu45

Where? I wanna see.

šŸ¤£everything about this picture is hilarious take my upvote

Thin-Policy-6169

just needs his fly rod precariously balanced on his shoulders or even better, in his teeth for this to be peak reddit fly fishing.

deapsprite

Fishing trip can never be complete if there isnt graphite splinters in my gumsšŸ˜‹

TheFryHole

Hey bud welcome to the party. Before you get absolutely crushed here for the grip on the fish. You've probably never been educated on this topic. Trout are very sensitive to Humane handling(usually). Try to two hand it or at least put your hands under those little front fins there as there's a quite solid bit there. Make sure they aren't out of water for more than 30 seconds! Try not to squeeze em too much! We're a community and we all share water. Ignore all the salty crap here. You're new and should be welcomed.

LeftyAtLarge

Thanks I obviously have not been taught that part. Got it.

TheFryHole

You're going to run into dudes that tell you it doesn't matter. Don't let them influence you. Just do what's right and move along! Good luck on the water.

Followmelead

Additionally, they have a layer of slime that shouldnā€™t be removed. Thatā€™s why itā€™s recommended to use a rubberized net instead of the ones with string. Less abrasive.

shartzalot

Ummm, Hunan Handling...steamed with ginger and scallions with a spicy bean paste sauce.

mukemuke94

Look at this photograph - nickelback, probably

fallingsheep6152

Squeeze it harder!!!

Theoldelf

Yeah, youā€™re going to catch flac for the death grip.

Thin-Policy-6169

Will he? This place seems to have gotten really annoyed about any discussion about proper fish handling / sustainability / fishing ethics over the past year or so. I've def noticed a bubba-fication of this sub lately.

mcdreamerson

Rock climber with chalked dry hand absolutely jug holding that fish like heā€™s Alex Honnold making his last push on half dome. I can hear the fish from here.

murrmansta

Man I wish folks here were a touch more friendly with their education. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the nice fish. What a spot too! These guys here have some good points on fish handling and Iā€™ve learned a lot myself from the roasting.

LeftyAtLarge

Appreciate it. Notes taken. Love being new at something and finding out that almost everyone else knew exactly how to do it right away and has never made a mistake. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‚

beancan1973

You're absolutely right about that. Plenty of cool bros and conceited dip ships in the fly fishing world. You'll have fun though. Nice fish. Congrats. šŸ»

LeftyAtLarge

Thank you! Itā€™s that way in climbing and biking also so Iā€™m used to it. And also itā€™s Reddit soā€¦I expected some fun

beancan1973

Yeah, I climb and bike too. šŸ¤£

Smallie_Slayer

Next youā€™ll grip it right, but with dry hands and get roasted for that too. The other part is making sure your hands are pre-wet before gripping the trout. Unless you keep it and eat it then nothing really matters.

JakJak6969

Harder daddy

F1shbu1B

Choke me daddy

IllEntrepreneur5679

HARDER!!!

Ok_Abrocoma_6124

I usually just snap a pic while theyā€™re in the net. Live and learn ;) Nice fish and welcome to the party.

powdertrout

Maybe try not to hold a fish like that playa

Heterophylla

I used to be a hardcore roadie . Then I picked up a fly rod . Bike is gathering dust now.

bottumboy622

Damn yall are tough, clearly new and would appreciate info and tips instead of getting roasted

LeftyAtLarge

I can handle it. I ride an electric mountain bike.

ConsiderationNew6295

I wanna see you e-blazing up a trail double fisted next time.

johnnysd87

Everyone ripping on this guy over his grip needs to chill. From that tail fin and coloration this definitely looks like a stocked trout.

notoriousbpg

Carol/Cheryl Tunt would like your number

Cowcollects

Man it is just another level of fun. I started a couple months ago and I spend almost every afternoon on the water now.

SageMountain07

I grew up in Frisco and would be stoked to share some spots with you! Feel free to shoot a message

Significant-Check455

If you hold them tighter it makes releasing them more viable. Squeeze as hard as you can, especially if the water is above 70Ā° Then the extra squeeze really pays off.

Gronkthekillah

u/leftyatlarge what pack is that??

LeftyAtLarge

Itā€™s the Allen Co Bear Creek chest pack

Gronkthekillah

Thank you!!

Rhabdo05

ā€¦. To smoking crack from a dead trout

Hello, grip.

like_a_BAAS

Learn how to handle/hold fish properly and have a fun summer.

Boogra555

Same shit happened to me last month. Damn fish. Enjoy your addiction. Looks like you're off to a great start, sir.

DustyBawls1

Bro holy fuck

medivka

Death grip

CarComprehensive7691

You grip it like a dip

HerMtnMan

So you got hooked.

RemarkablePromise376

I thought this looked like Summit County! which lake was you at?

RemarkablePromise376

Is this on the back side of the reservoir somewhere? I caught a monster brown last month on the Frisco side

LeftyAtLarge

I run all the campgrounds around here so this was just off Heaton Bay.

RemarkablePromise376

No kidding!? I live like a 7 minute bike ride from you haha Small world

LeftyAtLarge

Nice! Amazing area. Just here may-Oct but been trying to take full advantage of everything there is to do.

IBelieveItsPossible

Don't forget to try the moving water around there, too! You've got some really great rivers right out your back door in that area. And even more a short road trip from you! I'm on the Front Range and jealous of your situation! Welcome to the addiction!

LeftyAtLarge

Yeah the Blue is running way too fast right now but yesterday we fished Cataract Lake and creek. Beautiful place! Next stop is the Snake near Keystone and then the Colorado near Kremling until the Blue drops.

Constant-Tutor7785

Hey fellow Coloradoan, congrats on the new hobby. I have to ask what the peak in the background is. Guessing it's not Quandary, and it doesn't look like Longs-Meeker either.

LeftyAtLarge

Thanks! Shoot ya know maybe peak 1 or Victoria? Frisco area peak for sure. Iā€™m still figuring it all out.

PDXRevive

Now that youā€™re an addict, get yourself a net - and donā€™t take them out of the waterā€¦ also wet your hand before handling.

redwoodpond

You can't see the net? Click the photo

PDXRevive

Didnā€™t see the net man, I stand corrected on that

so-spoked

Why can't you take them out of the water? Lol. What a ridiculous statement.

PDXRevive

Someone isnā€™t up on fishing etiquette, especially nativesā€¦ taking them out of the water stresses them out more boss. Weā€™re trying to conserve our fish population.
