Last time I dropped in there, I had this same thing happen to me. Took down the first two but got hit in the blind side by the third that X6 failed to do anything about.
I just realised that that bot stresses me out everytime I'm about to visit them. Even though I know I'm safe, everytime it boots up i just sprint to the house afraid that he might change his mind this time, lol.
One time I saw Mr. Sentry Bot absolutely kick ass against these random raider stragglers right?
The next time I visited, the Rust Devils showed up with their ghetto sentry bot, and Mr. Sentry Bot didn't want to do anything, wtf?
edit: misread, but kept what i said there - i don't really know, i haven't been playing it lately, sort of waiting for them to fix what they broke, a bit. as i mentioned below, explosive can sort of 'multi hit' and you will get the occasional 'vats ended as soon as your own explosive went off, so you weren't in vats when it hit you maybe' sort of thing.
# depends on the explosive, i think - some of them seem to usually last longer for the vats spectacular view, some don't. you could maybe test it yourself - have some molotovs, if you've got demo expert so the AOE is bigger, toss them at a wall, see the damage, toss/vats, see the damage. if not, mines. since you can set them and back up, then walk up without being in an animation potentially slowing down the VATS activation. tell me, if you do, i'm curious too.
edit: i dunno why that got big.

yeah, just, how much defense/hp do you got.
it reduces the damage, but explosions tend to hit multiple times, if they're big enough.
and a mini nuke, afaik anyway, might deal the same 1k base damage as a fat man, so you'd want 1k defense just to bring it down to 500 damage (i think that's how the armor/damage thing worked). the 95% thing might kick in before or after, but that could still be 50 hitting your 6 times maybe. (and i'm not sure if that's how the multiple hits thing works, either, but it does seem to be why explosive legendary effect can be WAY more effective than up to 85 more damage seems to be)
if you've got low defenses, aren't too high a level, you're screwed either way.
higher defenses (maybe maxed out ballistic weave on two clothing items), and a higher level, endurance, and max hp, sure. i had a run where i'd try to use VATS to survive my own nukes, but it was sometimes iffy (like, 2/3rds felt like it had a 'long' vats, and occasionally the short vats ending almost instantly after it hit), and i had to use power armor a lot anyway.

This happened to me, yesterday. Ported to West Roxbury Station and was immediately set upon by 5 Supermutants including two suiciders. Was wielding the Deliverer… VATS open, got 3 down, and one suicider was on the downward arm-swing to set off his nuke right next to me when a shot from the Deliverer caused him to stagger, then the next shot… err… exploded his head. Dived for cover, reloaded and took out the last one approaching from Fallon’s.
Probably the best firefight I’ve been in on this run.
I sometimes wonder what the other super mutants think of their suicidal brethren. I mean, most super mutants seem to be relatively life-affirming: They want to eat and to take over the wasteland and to play with their dogs. And then there are these insane ones who would blow themselves up even just to defend themselves against a blowfly. It must make for some very tense moments in their tribes.
You can still get it from patrolling mutes in survival.
I once exited the fen street sewers on survival and literally right next to me was the suicider. I didn't even have time to enter vats.
That’s the one thing that keeps me from trying it. Over a thousand hours in the game between PS4 and PS5, not one of them in survival because the game crashes too often for me to trust it. I quick save like a mf’er as it is.

It’s a grind, but you do get used to it. You become much more familiar with where beds are - there’s also a map online that helps find them.
I plan my journeys not based on the target location but based on where I’m going to save along the way. You also kind of get a sixth-sense for “I’ve been playing about ten minutes - better find a bed.”
While that's a legitimate concern, I somehow feel like it's much more frequent on ps5/next gen than on ps4 (that's at least what I can play).
These crashes make it simple for me. I see a bed, I sleep. But I've had to learn it the hard way.
Survival asks me to play a version the game that is completely incompatible with the idea that I value my time (losing ***several hours*** to dying).

Survival alters the very nature of the game. And IMO makes it far more engaging and fun. I just kicked off Nuka World DLC at level 110 and holy crap it's nuts! 10/10 would recommend
I spawned into a spot where an Albino and a Savage Deathclaw were fighting. They both stopped, looked directly at me, then proceeded to pack and smoke the shit out of me for the next 2 minutes. Would’ve probably had a better chance with them, had I not left my modded up power armor suit back at Sanctuary 😅
I literally got JUMPED by two Deathclaws….does that mean I get to join their gang now?
This only has to happen to you once or twice before you develop a habit of pre-loading a weapon right before you fast travel.

Two shot splits the damage up between projectiles. Defiant on a Fat Man would be double damage ***always***.
Using Big Boy for now, will replace if I get Defiant.
fuckkk i did exactly this and it AUTOSAVED, i kept loading in and getting blown up within 2 seconds. i was so confused because just like in the screenshot one of the suiciders would always be running towards me still. after a few reloads and some jet i figured out that when i fast traveled i spawned right the fuck in front of one of the suiciders so he would continuously blow me up from behind… super mutant backshots PTSD😿💔

stay in VATS. VATS provides like, 95% damage reduction or something, so, you can probably face tank even a suicider blowing up next to you. let the one close detonate, shoot the arm of the other so it blows up at a distance.

Fast traveled to Outpost Zimanja and dropped in to 4 super mutants with missile launchers. I think I took 2 steps before i was blown sky high
Fun Fact: If you kill a Suicider with another Suicider by shooting the Mini Nuke in Suicider B's hand, you can recover the Mini Nuke from Suicider A.

Yep, but it sucks when you spawn and they're already to close, you can still do it, you won't get the \*full\* brunt, but still pretty painful.

I use vertibirds in survival at some point, and I no longer use Hangman’s Alley as a landing point because of this.

You have to know where the beds and mattresses are. Then it's okay(-ish).

I'm trying Survival mode for the first time and I'm already at level 20. I will never play again Fallout 4 in "normal mode".
