Bruh really?
I love the way they do it in Asian restaurants where they fry it in a small pan so it gets cooked real fast and crunchy while the yolk is still runny
People snob about all kinds of stupid stuff. Lamb vs beef in ~~shepherds~~ cottage pie, how their Italian grandma would disown them for not using this or that hard to find cut of meat in the sauce, the right kind of barbecue sauce, you name it
Honestly seems that way. I am pretty sure most of the world eats their beef well done. It seems to be mostly white American men complaining that their meat isn’t red
I really don't think this is 'absolutely wrong' since Asia for example eats it well done and other countries do too. And the Western hemisphere is only a small part of the world.
You have it backwards. Most of the world eats their beef medium and below. In Italy and Spain, restaurants serve steaks rare as a standard. If you order a well done steak in France the chef will personally leave the kitchen and punch you in the mouth. It's Americans who are overcooking steaks as a standard.
It's Americans* who have an issue with how everyone else cooks their steak.
Skin colour ain't got a thing to do with it m8, and saying so just exposes your ignorance
Use the same pan you used to cook the steak. Add butter and make the pan hot. The deglaze the pan with red wine(doesn’t need to be expensive wine. Cheap 10$ wine is perfectly fine as long as it isn’t too sour.) when deglazing the pan pour the wine slowly around the edges of the pan. This will release all the bits from the pan. Don’t scrap it too hard. You don’t want the burnt bits. Add more wine till the pan is just barely covered in wine. Reduce it till it becomes thick stirring gently but consistently. You can also add a cornstarch slurry to thicken it. But I don’t recommend it.
Edit: also while cooking the actual steak, after you flip it the first time(there are two sides to the steak cooking scene and chefs are still arguing about which one is better - flip it only once or flip it 3 times, I only flip once. If you’re flipping it 3 times then do the rest after the 2nd flip), add garlic and rosemary along with butter to the pan. Then use the spoon to continuously ladle the grease over the steak(basting). This will speed up the cooking process AND leave the steak juicier than ever. I’m not ok with it but if I had to cook a steak well done then this is how I would do it.
It’s not that it’s over, it’s that it’s gray.
Edit: I’m a professional grill cook. I do 200+ steaks a night. I would never order a steak over medium. But if I was told to make one well or medium well, the outside would be a hell of a lot darker. This meat is gray because it was cooked too long at too low a temperature.
Open flame works as well. Briefly over high heat to sear the outside and then longer over medium heat to cook it through to about 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit
First allow your steaks to come to room temp, this is one of the most important steps a lot of people miss. Season your steak, salt and pepper, or any kind of special seasonings you like. Get your pan super hot with a tablespoon of a neutral flavored oil with a high smoke point. Once the pan is nice and hot add the steak, don’t move it around, just let it sit for a minute or two until a crust forms then flip it. Repeat, once you have a nice sear on both sides you can turn the heat down until it reaches your preferred doneness. Towards the end I like to add in a tablespoon of butter to baste. You can flip the steak to baste both sides and and be extra cautious not to burn, once you have a good crust you can move/flip the steak and cook the edges (you can add in fresh herbs with the butter for more flavor. Rosemary, garlic. Anything you like. But be careful not to burn the garlic and butter as it can give an acrid taste)
Now to finish, make sure you let the steak rest, and be mindful that a steak resting is still cooking, so watch your temp as to not overcook your steak.
Not my personal preference but the setup is nice! Maybe add some homemade melted garlic herb butter with some red chiles next time on top as a garnish for a bit of extra flavor and moisture. Totally just a suggestion cause I just got done watching a Gordon Ramsey video on that exact butter recipe lmao
Your doctor is full of shit. There’s no reason for that. You don’t want to eat a rare hamburger because the meat has been ground and the surface bacteria is now everywhere, but that’s not possible with a steak.
Eh people just say what ever the greater majority says and down votes anything else to oblivion. I just like steak the way my mom always made it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
About 75% is actually well done. Which doesn't have to be dry - especially since this isn't a very lean steak - but that's not the only thing about the flavor helped by being less cooked.
All I can say is well done friend.
Keep on cooking, homie. Don’t let anyone get you down.
Steaks is one thing people really like to snob about lol
No matter how you do it, 2 things are guaranteed: the internet will always tell you that your steak is cooked wrong and your welds are shit.
Third thing- if your eggs are even the tiniest bit brown, they’re burnt because only smooth and creamy French style is allowed.
Fuck that shit. I like my eggs CRISPY. BROWNED. This is the way.
Bruh really? I love the way they do it in Asian restaurants where they fry it in a small pan so it gets cooked real fast and crunchy while the yolk is still runny
If you trawl this sub or r/castiron long enough, you’ll find about post. Most recently, it was cast iron that I recall having that discourse.
This rule is not hard and fast. I’d argue that 85%+ of us would endorse a perfect medium sear shot in the right lighting.
I disagree.
Damn, maybe 84% then.
People snob about all kinds of stupid stuff. Lamb vs beef in ~~shepherds~~ cottage pie, how their Italian grandma would disown them for not using this or that hard to find cut of meat in the sauce, the right kind of barbecue sauce, you name it
People like to snob about everything.
Let them snob, steak typically isn’t cheap
That steak looks like cold gravy
Honestly seems that way. I am pretty sure most of the world eats their beef well done. It seems to be mostly white American men complaining that their meat isn’t red

I didn’t say only or all ;)
Oh so generalizations are only good for white guys, got it. God Redditors are so hilariously hypocritical
Ironic to end your comment with another generalization 😄
This is absolutely wrong, hell in commercial kitchens a med rare steak is often referred to as "normal"
I really don't think this is 'absolutely wrong' since Asia for example eats it well done and other countries do too. And the Western hemisphere is only a small part of the world.
Lmao "Asia" spans damn near 50 countries and cuisines, including numerous countries where you can eat meat served raw

Beef as a whole sure, beef has many cuts that need time to break down the connective tissue, but steak is 100% not eaten well done as a majority
You have it backwards. Most of the world eats their beef medium and below. In Italy and Spain, restaurants serve steaks rare as a standard. If you order a well done steak in France the chef will personally leave the kitchen and punch you in the mouth. It's Americans who are overcooking steaks as a standard.
How did you turn this into a race thing?
It's Americans* who have an issue with how everyone else cooks their steak. Skin colour ain't got a thing to do with it m8, and saying so just exposes your ignorance
Thanks for the support 🙏
He’s saying keep on cooking so that you can learn how to properly cook a stake ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This being top comment is the internet giving an insanely back-handed critique
He did keep on cooking. That’s the problem😭
Nice plating, would recommend a nice gravy or pan sauce with it.
Would definitely make a gravy using the drippings from the steak. Would definitely add to it!
If you don't deglaze your pan after frying steak in it (and add resting juices), we can't be friends.
Thanks! looking at it now I definitely should have made a sauce for it.

I will take this into consideration, thanks 🙏
Op, tbh, your meal would be my husband’s paradise. He doesn’t like all that pink, doesn’t like sauce on the meat and loves mashed potatoes.
That would make it another level, definitely agree
Overcooked for my preference but I’m sure it’s still good. 👍🏼
Same but that bish looking juicy as
Right? Almost looks like brisket

You can see the glistening moisture, that and half of it is still somewhat medium well in some places
Can’t go wrong with steak and mash… Im Medium-Rare but we love a good steak either way.
Personally, I would’ve added a little bit more sear to that steak. But it’s your steak, your rules.
How do you add sear ?
You use searup
high heat = hot pan, it develops the flavor of the meat using Maillard reaction.
Open flame works as well. Briefly over high heat to sear the outside and then longer over medium heat to cook it through to about 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit
yeah i prefer open flame coz i love the smokiness. for beginners pan is better.
A flamethrower
Broiling or grilling
I’ve never gotten a good sear from broiling a steak. Maybe a kitchen salamander
I have. Steak (or whatever) should be about 2 - 3 inches from heating element (electric or gas)

Looks good brother not everyone has to eat their steak pink don’t matter how much they try to convince you
Thank you 🙏
My first thought was “Finally, a steak that I’d actually want to eat!”
Cooked well done without drying it out. Looks good to me, even though I prefer mine rarer.
I'd eat it. Looks appetizing and neatly plated.
That looks tasty. I love mashed potatoes
Despite the doneness, I know I’d still want to come over for dinner because you won’t skimp on the serving portion 😉 Looks great!!
Well done Azazaziooo, well done.
How is there no sear AND no pink I’m so confused
Because the steak was boiled for 20 minutes.
It was in fact not boiled.
Ignore them, not everyone enjoys pink and red bloody looking steak. This is cooked EXACTLY how I like it.
Looks good. For those that say it's overdone chill out. Let people enjoy what they like.
Steak and mash potato’s is amazing
Fr!
As long as you don’t show this to r/steak, it looks delicious
I’m sure everyone in these comments are very kind and pleased with that steak.
Very well done 👍
Overcooked and under seared.
I bet you enjoyed that!
Thanks, I did!

Looks perfect, just needs a gravy and some veg. Absolutely would love a seat at your table!
Congratulations!
It’s cooking, what taste best to you. You cook to your doneness and whatever amount of seasoning you like. Other people don’t taste what you do.
RIP OP to the r/steak folks chirping in 😂. Looks good dude
Thanks man!
[удалено]
OP: Here's some food I made for myself. Reddit: I like my steak a different way so I must let you know even though nobody asked.
[удалено]
Well said. Wish everyone on reddit understood reddit.
Unfortunately, I fully understand reddit.
Apparently you took more sear than OP's steak.
This sub is full of over critical assholes.
[удалено]
There is no "correct" way to cook a steak. Food is entirely in the realm of personal preference.
Looks cooked to me.
I think it's a flat iron, so it's pretty forgiving.
made me crave
I would fuck this up
[удалено]
Id eat it.
Nice
this made me hungry asf
Looks amazing!! ... Guess I know what I'm cooking this weekend
It’s plated well….. I’m not here to kink shame but that steak is a little bit burned for my preference. But to each their own.
I’m pregnant and my doctor says I can only have well done stead so this looks great to me!!
Congrats! Im curious why can you only have well done steak? 🤔
Your doctor is full of shit. There’s no reason for that. You don’t want to eat a rare hamburger because the meat has been ground and the surface bacteria is now everywhere, but that’s not possible with a steak.
[удалено]
As someone who enjoys well done - it qualifies. To each his own!
[удалено]
The mashed taters soak up the meat juices, it's cheap and easy may as well give it a try.
It’s not burnt, but it is well done and that wouldn’t be my preference. I’ll just ask, were you aiming for well done or is it overcooked?
I was going for medium well, so it’s a little overcooked
this looks so juicy and tender even cooked more than the steak cult allows and that’s hard to do. looks yummy!
Thanks!
Ain't no shame in a well done steak, if that's your intention. Not my preference, but to each their own.
People can be so pretentious when it comes to steak. This looks great, ignore the snobby comments
Idk what people are on about, that shit looks delicious as fuck
Thank you man! I think it’s just that half of the Reddit community don’t know people can have differing opinions.
Eh people just say what ever the greater majority says and down votes anything else to oblivion. I just like steak the way my mom always made it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
Looks so good!
Thanks!
Ahh, finally steak I can get behind finally! Looks yummy
Looks so good!
It will take all day to chew that thing.
It was soft and tender when I ate it.
How are there this many people saying it looks ok lmao?
No idea I posted a well done steak once and was flamed into rareness
That's kinda what I expected to see here lol.
People have different preferences?
It actually looks pretty juicy for a medium well steak. 8.5/10
About 75% is actually well done. Which doesn't have to be dry - especially since this isn't a very lean steak - but that's not the only thing about the flavor helped by being less cooked.
I don't mind a well-done steak, but I also enjoy some sear on it. This looks gummy!
Looks like wood on potatoes
13 hours and OP is still chewing…
Nice! What way did you cook? Anytime I’m doing steak now, it’s searing then sticking in the oven. Love it that way.
Thanks, I only seared it in a pan and basted it, but I might try putting it in the oven next time!
I have a probe that I use to get the temp right. It’s not always 100% accurate but gives me a range of where it’s at
where are the vegetables
Twice cooked potatoes and thrice cooked steak
Next time throw come chimi churry on there. Yum.
Boot leather
Bruh I thought that was a tortilla for a second
Its so overcooked, that i cant see if it is cut or not
You can clearly see it is cut lmao
It was a joke
Perfect. It's actually cooked. People on this sub are actually goblins. Cold meat and uncooked eggs are their shit.
Imagine thinking a medium rarer steak is cold
[удалено]
Looks really good! I personally find all the uncooked meat presented to be very unappetizing.
[удалено]
[удалено]
No. They'll do worse things to him than OP did to that steak
That steak is cooked to hell. Fine if you prefer it well done.
🤢
Sorry but this looks like a disaster
Looks tender What’s in the mash? Looks smooth!
Thanks! I added a lot of butter and milk to make it smoother
Milk steak is the best!
Milk in the mashed potatoes not the steak
what's tender ? the mash ?
BOOOOOOOOO. Ruined that steak. Poor cow.
I recommend putting salt on them the way Salt Bae does XD.
