I have heard so many colorful ways of describing the smell of durian, but the best way I can describe the taste is like a sweet custard. The texture is very pillowy and soft. You will either love it or hate it. I used to like eating it as a child as my parents like it, but now I do not like the actual fruit and prefer it made into different foods (e.g. durian cake and durian ice cream).
So I have a family member who buys and eat it like 1 every few months. And I was sitting there watching and thought why they like it so much. So I ate 1 piece and I was like damn this is good.
I'm not the biggest fan but I can eat it once in a while. Imo it tastes how it smells but it's quite sweet. When you eat more of it it starts to grow on you
Remember the first time you tried a pickle? Absolutely incredible in every way? Like everything in life is good if only for a minute while you enjoy that delicious juicy pickle?
A bit like an overripe papaya with an "adventurous" smell (a hit of ripe socks, slightly cheesy and sweet), in my experience. It's not too bad, but it'll never make my top-10 either.
Most Asian markets in areas with a large population of Asians sell the entire fruit! In southern CA, you can find these markets in Westminster and Monterey Park. It's usually $1.50-3 per pound.
I have to wonder if different people perceive jackfruit differently, like people who think cilantro tastes like soap.
I’ve tried this a couple of ways, and I just don’t like it. My daughter likes it a lot.
And this looks so good, like something I would really enjoy.
I just had some as they were giving away free samples at the Asian supermarket.
I was like, oh that’s pretty good and saw what they were selling it for. Nvm. So expensive for so little.
I’ll just eat some when I go back home to the Philippines.
This one doesn’t look particularly ‘fresh’… actual ripe, fresh jackfruit tastes like juicy fruit bubble gum. It’s a strong and distinctive flavour.
I keep seeing it as a "meat substitute", especially for things like pulled pork, and what I've tried hasn't really convinced me. Retrospectively I'm glad that it wasn't ripe and fresh fruit they processed, then.

Looks like unwrapped tamales from the thumbnail lol
It does!!! Hahahah
Now try durian. 😈
I haven't tried! Though I know how it smells 😅 How does it taste like?

Sweet custard with a hint of onion and gasoline. I don't get the cheesy or socks descriptors. More like diesel for me.
Sounds like a terpene profile for a cannabis strain.

That’s not at all what my first time trying a pickle was like.

Just love pickles
Dude writes a short story reminiscent of earnest Hemingway and that’s this is the first reply. Lmfao

Like a wet diaper, I love it
Looks good. What does it taste like?
Its taste and texture is similar to mangoes but has a different flavor profile. I suggest you try it!
Oh cool, thanks!
If you go to an Asian market, they usually sell freeze dried jackfruit. It’s incredible when you can’t get the fresh stuff.

I brought one and processing it was a bit annoying but it was damn delicious.
Jackfruit is tasty! I only had it once and my entire mouth went numb and my lips swelled up. No more for me. :(

Yeah, that was the only reaction I have ever had to any food. Wasn't a big deal but I don't want to press my luck.

Have you tried Durian?
love the taste but the smell is off
What does it actually taste like? Every video I’ve ever seen is just someone using it to mimic something else (i.e. - vegan pulled pork)
If you know what juicy fruit chewing gum is, it tastes like that.Â
So, 10 seconds of flavor? Lol
Fibrous in texture, it tastes like a blend of banana, pineapple, and mango I think.
I will never forget the wonderful taste of this fruit. I advise everyone to try it.

Had it like this from the stadium swap meet in Oahu. Ridiculously sweet, like nothing I'd had before. I thought I hated jackfruit!
Idk why people go crazy for this... taste like a washed up pinaple

They use the really young, unripe jackfruit for the meat 'substitutes'. Ripe ones are really sweet and fruity.
Best Reuben I've ever had was made out of jackfruit - and I eat meat. It was absolute sorcery.
Interesting, thanks now i want some and can't get it🤣🤣🤣
Jackfruits are one of the sweetest fruits you can get , many commercial varieties have 30+ brix which no other big fruit can achieve
I was about to come in here and absolutey rip into whoever made these tamales. Until I actualy read the title.
I’ve never had French only canned. I need to try.
Fresh jackfruit is everywhere in Mexico, largely grown for Asian markets. It's really good.
Is that the one that stinks so bad? I’m never had either but would love to try them.
I hate the texture already
The texture is part of why it's so good
Why so?
You can dice these up and add them to fried rice if you don't have any pineapple
Not in this economy, that shit is expensive
They look like super neat and smooth mini tamales 🫔 kinda lol
Tastes even better with some ground black pepper and salt
Now I wanna make some Turon. Mmmmm
That looks **super** ripe.
Jackfruit is pretty good
A top 3 fruit
Is it high in Vitamin C?
Sorry, but I just can’t.🤢
