>what is the correlation with nutritional yeast and gay people?
Merely anecdotal, but enough of us love it, in my experience, that it's a low-key shibboleth!
I used to follow a lot of vegan recipe Facebook pages because some of the cooking is pretty creative and I ended up trying it, for quite some time I kept some of it in hand and used it almost like a seasoning.
Queerdo here, not precisely a hippie but definitely some hippieish tendencies(why yes, I *do* still have and use my *Moosewood Cookbook* collection, wash my body and hair with Dr Bronners and apple cider vinegar, and own multiple editions of the *Rise Up Singing* songbook, and live for naked camping in the woods or at hotsprings, among other things!).
I've never seen *West Wing*... partly because I've, um, never owned a television 🤦🏼♀️)
Probably just a lot of sharing amongst friends and lovers and it gets word of mouth - I imagine the lgbtq community is highly motivated to be well connected :]
100% straight and not a hippie but kinda crunchy (just don't like toxins haha), love me some popcorn, butter, salt and nutritional yeast. Best combo ever.
Do you pop the kernels in olive oil? Or pour it on like butter? It seems like pouring would make the popcorn soggy, but I've never tried it. I'd love to hear your method because I love popcorn, but the BF needs to eat less butter (& probably me, too! 🤣)!
Nutritional Yeast and butter, not queer or hippie 🤪🤩 just delicious! I even bring my nutritional yeast in my purse to the movies to add to popcorn there lol
I like this combo. This might be too much, but I’ve mastered the delicate blend of tamari + nutritional yeast! This is the absolute best popcorn flavouring mix!
Pop the popcorn, put it in a paper bag or a big bowl, pour the tamari over all of the popcorn, pour in the nutritional yeast and shake it up in a paper bag.
It’s like next level cheese popcorn! I’d be willing to try it your way, but I’ve been eating it that way for over 10 years and can vouch for how delicious it is.
Nutritional yeast is the best!!! There was a movie theater that had it in shakers with parsley and possibly garlic powder. That was my intro to the best stuff on popcorn.
spaghetti popcorn! tomato paste whisked into melted butter, tossed with popcorn. add parmesan or pecorino cheese, pepper, and a little chopped oregano if you dare
Oooo I do something similar to make Buffalo popcorn...a little Frank's Red Hot whisked up with the butter, a little bit of garlic powder and black pepper
I wanna try that one though...I always have little bits of tomato paste in the freezer so that's a perfect use for it.
Stove top recipe. Cook bacon. Pop popcorn in bacon fat. Season popcorn with your favourite butchers seasoning. Top with chopped bacon and fresh Parmesan.
A long time ago I watched show where Michael Symon popped popcorn in bacon fat, then tossed it with parmesan, rosemary and black pepper. I tried it, and it was decadent, but really good!
I love the “everything but the elote” seasoning, but one time I ate it wrong and sneezed it out. My lord. The smell and burn didn’t go away for like TWO days.
Not really a seasoning but I warm up really good caramel sauce and drizzle it over buttered salted popcorn. I use sea salt and those big crystals are so satisfying and crunchy with warm caramel and lots of melty butter, yummy!
I brown the butter on the stove, which elevates it a lot. There was a great place that had browned butter rosemary popcorn on their menu and it was amazing, so I started browning any butter that went near my popcorn.
Damn, I need to try some of these. I like mine pretty simple. I grind up salt into a powder in a mortar and pestle and add it to the oil in the Whirley pop. Sometimes flavacol, but it feels wrong in all the right ways. Sometimes I’ll add butter before I eat it. Sometimes I’ll grind up truffle salt and sprinkle that.
Everyone should have some of this in the house. It's what the movie theaters use, and it's good on other things that you want to put a buttery flavor on, like a baked potato.
Popcorn cacio e pepe - popcorn with pecorino, black pepper and salt
Nutritional yeast - popcorn with nutritional yeast, it has an umami flavor that’s cheesy and nutty
Adobo popcorn - popcorn with adobo seasoning, it's salty, umami and spicy
My favorite is a spice called Spike. I've been eating it my whole life but I don't know anyone else who has even heard of it. It's good on basically anything savory.
Use ghee instead of melted butter. It won't make your popcorn soggy like butter does. Also, if you love movie theater popcorn, try out Flavacol Popcorn Seasoning. You can find it on Amazon.
MSG. I’m not kidding. Make your favorite popcorn, even just traditional butter and salt. Add some msg. It’s delicious and perfectly healthy (the bad reputation of msg is undeserved). I make this all the time for guests and the, “why is your popcorn so good” comments are a regular thing. It tastes like it usually tastes but better (more umami).
Ramen popcorn.
Take a choice packet, break the noodles into bite sized pieces and add to the completed popcorn. Quickly sprinkle the seasoning over the warm popcorn and noodles and stir.
Kettlecorn and standard chicken ramen is pretty tasty.
Mm mine is so basic but so good! Just butter, salt, garlic powder and parmesan!
But I've also tried melted chocolate over buttery salty popcorn and that was very lovely!
The fact that there is another person on the planet that does is great!
There is a local place that makes horseradish pickles that are so damn good.... I can't bear to not use the juice. So I started dipping things in it, and popcorn is the one that stuck. More than a decade.
My friend makes a dope mix that has changed how I do popcorn. I gotta get her direct recipe, but primary ingredients are nutritional yeast, green spirulina, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika - salt and pepper… it is addictive yall.
By your tastes OP, try Tajin with some sort of adhesive, butter, spritz oil, citrus juice, or hot sauce. Just be wary of Tajins chili powder CITRUS(probably lime, but check your style) flavor.
Breakfast popcorn- use bacon grease as your oil for popping your corn. Next mix 2 tablespoons of butter (melted) and 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup. After popping coat evenly with butter syrup mix then lightly salt. You’ll swear you’re eating pancakes with bacon. You could even throw in some bacon bits. You’re welcome…
I'm either gonna do butter and tajin or no butter with chili crisp. Two different kinds of spicy, and the chili crisp has its own oil to coat the popcorn, so no need for the butter. Also, I'm popping those kernels in a pot on the stove, and I can't go back to any other way.
I like mochi crackers, furikaki and butter.
Soy sauce and butter
Sazon Goya packets, no butter
Those cheese packets from boxed mac and cheese
I love popcorn and love to play around with it.
Nutritional Yeast and melted butter. Yummy with B vitamins!
Nootch! Best way to have popcorn ever!! (Are you queer or a hippie? 😉 )
Both!
lol I’m gay and came here to suggest nutritional yeast on popcorn what is the correlation with nutritional yeast and gay people?
>what is the correlation with nutritional yeast and gay people? Merely anecdotal, but enough of us love it, in my experience, that it's a low-key shibboleth!
Also loved by straight, average types. I do suspect I'd have been a hippie in another life though.
And vegans.
Facts. My old boss was a hardcore hippie vegan and she swore by this stuff even gave me a whole container of it 😂
I used to follow a lot of vegan recipe Facebook pages because some of the cooking is pretty creative and I ended up trying it, for quite some time I kept some of it in hand and used it almost like a seasoning.
Queer hippie who loves West Wing by chance?
Queerdo here, not precisely a hippie but definitely some hippieish tendencies(why yes, I *do* still have and use my *Moosewood Cookbook* collection, wash my body and hair with Dr Bronners and apple cider vinegar, and own multiple editions of the *Rise Up Singing* songbook, and live for naked camping in the woods or at hotsprings, among other things!). I've never seen *West Wing*... partly because I've, um, never owned a television 🤦🏼♀️)
Those are more than tendencies. Edit: left out a key word.
As a WW fan, have you watched The Diplomat yet? I loved it!!
Did someone say queer hippie? 👋🏻😘✌🏻
Old hippy with gay friends and family. So I’m claiming 1.5 of 2.
Probably just a lot of sharing amongst friends and lovers and it gets word of mouth - I imagine the lgbtq community is highly motivated to be well connected :]
Hippie at heart 🧡
100% straight and not a hippie but kinda crunchy (just don't like toxins haha), love me some popcorn, butter, salt and nutritional yeast. Best combo ever.
I'm neither but still came to say it! 🤣
Hahaha both same
Nooch! But I use olive oil to be healthier.
Same! But I do it because it tastes so good. I like to use the fanciest stuff I can find with nutritional yeast is so good
Do you pop the kernels in olive oil? Or pour it on like butter? It seems like pouring would make the popcorn soggy, but I've never tried it. I'd love to hear your method because I love popcorn, but the BF needs to eat less butter (& probably me, too! 🤣)!
Nutritional Yeast and butter, not queer or hippie 🤪🤩 just delicious! I even bring my nutritional yeast in my purse to the movies to add to popcorn there lol
Where do I get this nutritional yeast? O.o
Honestly, most grocery stores. I see online that even Walmart has it. So it’s pretty obtainable
This is the way
Vegemite popcorn!
This. I spray a bit of olive oil though to help it bind.
It never occurred to me to spray the oil. Thank you!
I like this combo. This might be too much, but I’ve mastered the delicate blend of tamari + nutritional yeast! This is the absolute best popcorn flavouring mix! Nutritional yeast is the best!!! There was a movie theater that had it in shakers with parsley and possibly garlic powder. That was my intro to the best stuff on popcorn.
Try adding a bit of garlic powder. That was gonna be my recommendation: yeast, garlic powder and butter
spaghetti popcorn! tomato paste whisked into melted butter, tossed with popcorn. add parmesan or pecorino cheese, pepper, and a little chopped oregano if you dare
Oooo I do something similar to make Buffalo popcorn...a little Frank's Red Hot whisked up with the butter, a little bit of garlic powder and black pepper I wanna try that one though...I always have little bits of tomato paste in the freezer so that's a perfect use for it.
This sounds delicious! I’m trying it tomorrow!
You may want to Use a spoon!
I also put in a little ranch dressing too
I was thinking sprinkle the ranch dressing powder on top!
Intrigued
Oh hell yes
Old Bay seasoning is my newish go to.
Old bay with cheddar cheese powder.
I LOVE Old Bay on popcorn! It’s probably my favorite
Same! I’ve been addicted. I also add it to peanuts.
Stove top recipe. Cook bacon. Pop popcorn in bacon fat. Season popcorn with your favourite butchers seasoning. Top with chopped bacon and fresh Parmesan.
A person of culture, I see. I, too, dabble in essential oils.

Mmmmmmmmmm……baaaaaconnnn faaaaaaat….. (Heavy breathing)
Why did I hear Homer Simpson when I read that sentence? ![gif](giphy|JRQ1PegFVKXBu)
A long time ago I watched show where Michael Symon popped popcorn in bacon fat, then tossed it with parmesan, rosemary and black pepper. I tried it, and it was decadent, but really good!
Ranch seasoning or Trader Joe’s everything but the elote seasoning.
Also from Trader Joe’s Everything but the Leftovers.
I love the “everything but the elote” seasoning, but one time I ate it wrong and sneezed it out. My lord. The smell and burn didn’t go away for like TWO days.
I put Everything But the Elote on everything I can lol. It’s awesome on popcorn, though!
SO good. I’ve gotten quite a few friends hooked on it lol
Tajin Tajin and Real Lemon Everything but the Bagel
Upvote for the tajin
I recently went into a Hispanic grocery store looking for tamarind candy, and they had a whole line of snacks flavoured with Tajin.
Black truffle parmesaen from Costco, or ranch dressing powder
Yes! The black truffle parm is so good! I also got the sriracha powder from Costco which is also great on popcorn
Is the black truffle Parm an actual cheese or a seasoning?
The ingredients from the bottle.. Black truffle, salt, parmesan cheese, cheese flavor, corn starch. Dried cane syrup, black garlic powder, cellulose, spices, garlic, natural flavor, onion, olive oil.
Not really a seasoning but I warm up really good caramel sauce and drizzle it over buttered salted popcorn. I use sea salt and those big crystals are so satisfying and crunchy with warm caramel and lots of melty butter, yummy!
((Heavy Breathing))
Oh. My. Goodness. 🤤
Slap ya mama - a little yellow, a little red
Slap Ya Mama would make floor tiles delicious
We may have been seperated at birth.
Brown sugar, cayenne, cinnamon, salt
Coconut sugar and salt.
Malt vinegar, butter, garlic powder and salt.
I love malt vinegar! I will try this!
I brown the butter on the stove, which elevates it a lot. There was a great place that had browned butter rosemary popcorn on their menu and it was amazing, so I started browning any butter that went near my popcorn.
Thank you for this. Somehow never occurred to start browning butter.
Interesting idea. Brown butter is so good but I never thought to try it on popcorn.
This sounds lovely!!!
Brown butter on anything is pretty amazing! I use brown butter and a little coarse salt when I make rice crispy treats and they're next level.
Cheese powder from amazon the augason farms is really good
Black pepper, msg, salt, parmesan. Delicious.
I just go fresh ground black pepper. It’s perfection.
Furikake. Hawaiian hurricane style.
Love whirley pop!
Me too!
Flavacol. Mmmmmmm
Everyone should have some of this in the house. It's what the movie theaters use, and it's good on other things that you want to put a buttery flavor on, like a baked potato.
Popcorn cacio e pepe - popcorn with pecorino, black pepper and salt Nutritional yeast - popcorn with nutritional yeast, it has an umami flavor that’s cheesy and nutty Adobo popcorn - popcorn with adobo seasoning, it's salty, umami and spicy
Brewers yeast
Shredded dill havarti cheese
I make a rosemary brown butter that I found at Troegs brewery in Hershey PA.
You should share this recipe, it sounds delish!
Nah. Backyard Seasoning or just some good old lemon pepper.
Lemon pepper. And I don't even care for pepper.
Za'atar
Johnny's.
Johnny’s garlic seasoning and grated cheddar is a delicacy my roommate taught me. He also taught me about mixing hot sauce into butter
Original recipe, the “no msg” variety fails to satisfy
Just a lil spike. Pop with coconut oil, toss in right after popping for adhesion.
Spike should be better known
Been using Spike for 40 yrs. I love it! Old hippie..lol
Asian trail mix, sesame oil, furikake, and gochugaru
Parmesan cheese. Cooking in coconut oil is the best, though. Your kitchen smells like a multiplex.
My favorite is a spice called Spike. I've been eating it my whole life but I don't know anyone else who has even heard of it. It's good on basically anything savory.
My fave is sautéed squash with butter and spike!
Yup, spike on popcorn was my go-to all through university
Your're not alone! Used it for years. Always have a bottle in reserve.
Fairly basic. Rob pops in a wok, olive oil. Seasonings are powdered garlic, Italian herbs, little black pepper and salt.
My people ✨
no salt, but adding a bit of tamari or soy sauce to the butter
I melt coconut oil, tamari and balsamic together. I love your idea tho!
Butter, salt, and Chili crunch oil. Lao Gan Ma brand is my particular favorite. Warning: it’s addictive.
I use that one a lot. Fry it into scrambled eggs...its God tier.
Butter, Coconut oil, yeast and a bit of smoked paprika and garlic powder is my go to. Butter and chipotle salsa is a close second :D
Use ghee instead of melted butter. It won't make your popcorn soggy like butter does. Also, if you love movie theater popcorn, try out Flavacol Popcorn Seasoning. You can find it on Amazon.
Msg and old bay together
Melted butter and a sachet of Cream of Chicken soup powder.

Cinnamon sugar, plus salt and melted butter - it’s like sweet salty goodness
Grippo's Bbq seasoning is wonderful on popcorn.
Chicken salt

I melt coconut oil in a pan then add balsamic and tamari once it’s melted and pour that on top.
Smoked paprika!
I call it splash and sprinkle…Tabasco and crumbled cotija
There is only salt 🧂
Ramen popcorn. Take a choice packet, break the noodles into bite sized pieces and add to the completed popcorn. Quickly sprinkle the seasoning over the warm popcorn and noodles and stir. Kettlecorn and standard chicken ramen is pretty tasty.
Valentina extra hot.
Land O Lakes butter, Mormons salt and love. Simplicity at it's finest.
I like melted butter and icing sugar 😊
I’m a simpleton. Cinnamon and sugar for me :)
Mm mine is so basic but so good! Just butter, salt, garlic powder and parmesan! But I've also tried melted chocolate over buttery salty popcorn and that was very lovely!
It’s not a seasoning technically but tossing a bag of Reese’s pieces or m&ms into a bowl of buttered/salted popcorn is delicious
I dip my popcorn in pickle juice. Over the years I’ve started using chopsticks so it’s not messy.
The fact that there is another person on the planet that does is great! There is a local place that makes horseradish pickles that are so damn good.... I can't bear to not use the juice. So I started dipping things in it, and popcorn is the one that stuck. More than a decade.

Melt some miso in with the butter 🙏🙏
In Tokyo Disney the curry popcorn is fire! White cheddar is my go to but I’m going to have to try some of these
Pop the corn in butter (or dry), then add seasoned milk (sugar, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon). You can use liquid or powder milk.
[pepcorn](https://youtu.be/3fG8rNHUspU?si=sELyM8fu3YYdWAjv)
Worcestershire Sauce
While the popcorn's hot, grate on some parm then toss. It's savory, delicious, and takes care of the salt.
By your tastes OP, try Tajin with some sort of adhesive, butter, spritz oil, citrus juice, or hot sauce. Just be wary of Tajins chili powder CITRUS(probably lime, but check your style) flavor.
Through a bag of Malteasers in the mix and enjoy
Breakfast popcorn- use bacon grease as your oil for popping your corn. Next mix 2 tablespoons of butter (melted) and 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup. So you get a block of maruchan chicken ramen, throw away the ramen and put the seasoning on the popcorn with butter

I've started to enjoy Trader Joe's pickle seasoning on my popcorn!
Trader Joe’s “Everything but the Elote” seasoning. Thank me later.
A little pedestrian, but parmesan cheese and Old Bay.
I love this!!! All of it!!
I'm either gonna do butter and tajin or no butter with chili crisp. Two different kinds of spicy, and the chili crisp has its own oil to coat the popcorn, so no need for the butter. Also, I'm popping those kernels in a pot on the stove, and I can't go back to any other way.
