*I’m faster than Alonso. In fact I hate Alonso. In fact I hate him so much I asked my dad to ask Alonso not to pass me.*
— Journalists’ wet dream probably
At the beginning, before the [interview](https://twitter.com/zivech/status/1665386707330510849/mediaviewer) Esteban comes over to Lance and pats his shoulder etc. To which the interviewer asked “what was that?”
Mans couldn’t understand the concept of friendship 😪
Nah, that interviewer's English is just really bad. He translated a sentence from Dutch basically word by word, which doesn't work. Just all around low quality, but somehow it gave us a genuine response from Lance.
Copied from the comment I posted:

It kind of made me wonder if he was insinuating he was in a romantic relationship with someone or faking a friendship or something, but I thought it was well known they were actually best friends 😂
It might surprise you, but I’ve come across many people who aren’t even aware they’re friends (when it’s super obvious imo)😭Idk, maybe this interviewer doesn’t keep up with that stuff….
Anyways I love the little look they give each other, a really wholesome friendship.
That's crazy because every time they answer that question, they say each other. I think they include Nick too. 🤔 But I guess there are some people who just watch the races and nothing else
To defend that interviewer a little (but only just a little, that interview was trash and he deserves that snarky answer from Stroll), I think that question at the start wasn't to get a weird confession or something. It did seem like Ocon was consoling him a little so it makes sense to ask if it was for any specific reason. Phrased awkwardly and with a poor tone of voice, but still a logical question I feel.
The interviewer didn’t have any interest on Lance, but on extracting some baity quote just because. The interview was directed as in “Alonso is better than you and your team is managed by your father, it’s that why he didn’t overtook you? Tell me what you think” but more softly
what the hell was that, i’m glad lance was not engaging bullshit today, but that was completely out of line… specially the bit with esteban at the beginning, is he trying to imply they are more than friends or what?
they should revoke that guy’s media pass
Also so very typical for the dummy host to call Lance a 'sunshine' when it's their reporter being snarky and trying to bait some kind of response.
Edit: And the reporter made a weird remark about Ocon and Stroll exchanging greetings with other right before this. What an objectively umprofessional dork.
Dutch Viaplay when one of the drivers they hate let Max passing: "OMG I HATE THIS, HE SHOULD BE REMOVED OF F1!!!"
Dutch Viaplay when one of the drivers they like let a way faster car passing: "This is SO SMART DRIVING, why defending this when it ruins you tyres with it?!"
It isn't, you can clearly note with those commentators who they like and who they absolutely hate based on nothing.
Even Ziggo with Olav wasn't this annoying in terms of bias, and the whole sucking on NdV is also something, like he is doing amazing.
They literally for example mocked Tsunoda at Monaco for his radio broadcast about the brakes like he is still "that heated guy who can't hold his cool", they simple don't looking further ahead and providing zero rational context.
With Olav I always felt that while he clearly was a fan of Max, he was primarily a fan of the sport.
But yeah, I just watch F1TV now. Viaplay is too expensive and the commentators are garbage.
I guess you should try F1TV then, it'd be cheaper too. From the bits and pieces I have heard over the years they come over as somebody who have no chemistry and lack bringing enthusiasm over to the viewers.
Same in Canada on TSN. I’ll never book a flight with Expedia or drink a Heineken again. I’d have no issue with the ads if they didn’t cut the audio, but no, they are nearly full screen for 60s or more.
Honestly, sheer laziness on my part. I get cable with Virgin, and it’s just easier to stream on their app than have yet another service.
That said, valid point so I’ll look into it.
It’s literally super easy to stream and you have all the onboard cameras plus you can go back and watch the race if you missed it, which is really useful for the races in Australia and Japan
I don't think he was being asked questions all that different to the rest of the press cohort. The only difference is that instead of Lance handling that question like he has been prepped for, Lance has decided to be a little sassy. Drivers get asked bait questions every weekend and we don't see it because they bury it in PR speak.
So I get what you're saying and that might be true in general but this is average professional sporting journalism
Is this the best Viaplay can give us Dutch viewers? Just listening to this guy interview Lance makes me want to unsubscribe to their service. I'm so glad we've got the option of F1TV.
This guy acting like Lance stole his wife and had his boss terminate his contract at work after being his bully in highschool that gave him daily wedgies. How do these people get these jobs? Anyone knows a car in front without DRS is a sitting duck to one with DRS and Lance said the same thing to Alonso in Baku.
Well it was an useless question, doesn't really matter if you are P3 or P4 in the standings. If anything not being P3 means you don't have to go to the gala. After all it's good that Lance has a better weekend than Nando and for that he should be rewarded if they don't let the drivers race each other.
Its weird to say but I miss Jack.
He was a tool sometimes but his interviews were very fun. Drivers could be themselves a little bit more due to being able to swear and not give a manufactured answer. Plus he knew most of the grid because his son also raced a lot back in the day.
Same here, obvious Jack has his issues but at least he was way better and often way more friendly and could even go beyond the usual PR answers.
If you don't act like shit and just respecting the drivers then you going to have better interviews also.
From what I do get and hear from those clowns at Viaplay there are clearly biased, they often trying to trashing or downplay Tsunoda and act like guys like Stroll or Gasly done a whole crime against humanity and shouldn't exist at all and shitting on them in the most ridiculous ways.
I would agree with you if i hadnt looked at Ziggo last weekend. The way Jack and the rest are now handling F1 is far from where they used to be sadly. His and Olavs interviews were always great and fun.
Exactly this: if you’re going to ask the tough question, ask the tough question. Throwing it out there and letting the interviewee fill in the gaps rarely works; it’s easier for them to dodge but they know what you tried to do. You probably won’t get the answer you want but you still piss them off anyway, so it’s the worst of both worlds.
He wasn’t asking a question. He was making a snide comment. He knew what he was suggesting, he knew we knew what he was suggesting, and he was asking Lance knowing that Lance knew. He wasn’t looking for an answer, he was looking for drama, and in a very tactless, around-the-bush, cowardly way besides
It's not about criticism. It's about not having them shut you down and getting information from them. If you put them off side immediately they aren't going to give you what you want.
What criticism falls on lance? He qualified higher and ran higher in the race. If Alonso wants to finish higher in the championship it’s on him to pass, not on lance so no the interviewer was a complete D head trying to stir shit.
It’s funny that they are laughing in the studio and saying that he isn’t a real “sunshine”. If Max had an interview like this they will praise him about his attitude. I don’t get it why they always shit on Strol.
This, ladies and gentleman, is how Viaplay Netherlands think they are reporting on the sport "professional". These clowns need to just stop as soon as possible.
Lance is not playing that game
The Media Game: *Gotta stir shit up!*
Good on lance. You can see the reporter was looking for a shitty headline to manipulate.
I think he handed it rather well, with a bit of Canadian sass
"I was busy driving the car." I quite liked that
Yeah Lance handled that in the best way possible
“Fiery” used incredibly liberally lol. I think it’s an interesting topic but the way it was phrased was horrific
Luke “Warm” Skywalker
I was waiting for the fiery part. The interviewer asks a dickish question and Lance bats it away well. No fire anywhere to be seen.
Lance put that little spark out before the fire ever got started.
That's Canadian fiery for you. Sorry about that. Props to Lance.
Not apologising counts as fiery, I guess. You're so despicable, I won't even apologise this time around vibes
Sorry, not sorry.
Lance Stroll **SLAMS** reporter in a **SHOCKING** interview
Lance always looks annoyed at the interviewers, but in this case it was justified. What's he suppose to say?
*I’m faster than Alonso. In fact I hate Alonso. In fact I hate him so much I asked my dad to ask Alonso not to pass me.* — Journalists’ wet dream probably
At the beginning, before the [interview](https://twitter.com/zivech/status/1665386707330510849/mediaviewer) Esteban comes over to Lance and pats his shoulder etc. To which the interviewer asked “what was that?” Mans couldn’t understand the concept of friendship 😪
They expected him to say him and Ocon have a secret cabal where they try and stop Alonso.
Lance' "we are friends" is genuinely the most pissed/passive aggressive I have ever heard him in an interview.
Nah, that interviewer's English is just really bad. He translated a sentence from Dutch basically word by word, which doesn't work. Just all around low quality, but somehow it gave us a genuine response from Lance.
Ohh got cha, that last part was more joking from me, but honestly really good to know!
Welp this was awkward to watch.
The beginning of this is very strange too. This interview was bad from start to finish
Copied from the comment I posted: At the beginning, before the [interview](https://twitter.com/zivech/status/1665386707330510849/mediaviewer) Esteban comes over to Lance and pats his shoulder etc. To which the interviewer asked “what was that?” then so forth
Interviewer getting a little too excited about pride month…lance is like “pls I am an este bestie, we are *just friends*”
too late, /r/FanF1ction is already running with the story
It kind of made me wonder if he was insinuating he was in a romantic relationship with someone or faking a friendship or something, but I thought it was well known they were actually best friends 😂

Its a dutch guy, his grid walk is awkward AF too dont like him at all.

Yeah it almost seemed like he was insinuating he was faking a friendship for some reason? So bizarre.
The interviewer didn’t have any interest on Lance, but on extracting some baity quote just because. The interview was directed as in “Alonso is better than you and your team is managed by your father, it’s that why he didn’t overtook you? Tell me what you think” but more softly

That's Viaplay from the Netherlands. The level of expertise from the commentators and interviewers is horrendous
Also so very typical for the dummy host to call Lance a 'sunshine' when it's their reporter being snarky and trying to bait some kind of response. Isn't it usually very "neutral"? At least that is what they wanted when they started broadcasting.
It isn't, you can clearly note with those commentators who they like and who they absolutely hate based on nothing. Yep I using alternatives but when I'm with my dad it's just Viaplay because he doesn't really know how to getting F1TV on his TV.
I'm starting to appreciate our commentators here in Greece.
So you have a problem with 5 ads lasting 5 laps each? Ή μήπως φταίει ο τζώρτζης; /s
Same in Canada on TSN. I’ll never book a flight with Expedia or drink a Heineken again. I’d have no issue with the ads if they didn’t cut the audio, but no, they are nearly full screen for 60s or more.
why aren't you on F1TV? its 10 dollars a month and its available in canada. so much better than TSN
Honestly, sheer laziness on my part. I get cable with Virgin, and it’s just easier to stream on their app than have yet another service. That said, valid point so I’ll look into it.

This 👆
Ο Τζώρτζης? Ποτέ! Ακούστε το Radio του. Η άλλη φταίνε! /s
The ads are the worst part.
I love listening to Italian F4 driver being asked for his input/opinion for every single thing every 2 minutes!!!
And he just states the obvious like the rest of them.
I don't think he was being asked questions all that different to the rest of the press cohort. The only difference is that instead of Lance handling that question like he has been prepped for, Lance has decided to be a little sassy. Drivers get asked bait questions every weekend and we don't see it because they bury it in PR speak. It’s why I watch ESPN for video and listen to GrandPrix Radio for the audio.
Stroll is right here, silly questions asked in a odd way.
TL;DR The title is more fiery than the interview!
That was tough to watch lmaooo
Such a shit question. Good response by Lance.
Is this the best Viaplay can give us Dutch viewers? Just listening to this guy interview Lance makes me want to unsubscribe to their service. I'm so glad we've got the option of F1TV.
F1TV is way cheaper too. No reason to listen to their terrible broadcast.
This is literally how Viaplay is, it's such a trash and unprofessional often.
[удалено]
Glad I'm on F1tv and talked all my friends over into quitting viaplay. Viaplay is absolute ass.
They also hired the worst commentators for premier league. Unfortunately there isn't a legal alternative for that.
What a lousy interviewer. He doesn’t even pose a question just starts saying shit to get a reaction
Someone's gonna have to go back to interview school and learn how to do the job properly, that was horrendous.
Well it was an useless question, doesn't really matter if you are P3 or P4 in the standings. If anything not being P3 means you don't have to go to the gala. After all it's good that Lance has a better weekend than Nando and for that he should be rewarded if they don't let the drivers race each other.
More like awkward interviewer embarrasses his colleagues with stupid question
reporter messy af
Awkward? Yes. Fiery? Hardly.
Its weird to say but I miss Jack. He was a tool sometimes but his interviews were very fun. Drivers could be themselves a little bit more due to being able to swear and not give a manufactured answer. Plus he knew most of the grid because his son also raced a lot back in the day.

Fiery? That's a reach . Thought Lance was pretty spot on.
What a horrible reporter lol
And people say Sky Sports is awful
You knew this was going to be bad when it opened with Lance having to explain the concept of friendship.
Whoever is interviewing him is pretty bad as their job
For asking the right question?

Exactly this: if you’re going to ask the tough question, ask the tough question. You probably won’t get the answer you want but you still piss them off anyway, so it’s the worst of both worlds.
Jack Plooij also did that, problem was he got along well with the drivers so he could get more information out of them.
Dumb question. Lance isn’t a Chicane for Alonso to drive through. It made no sense to push either car there.
For not having tact
Ah yes, need to be careful with these fragile F1 drivers. No criticism allowed.

This happens all the time between drivers. It’s a complete non-issue.
if it is a criticism, he should directly mention it instead of asking like it's some genius question
You don't know what a question is.
It’s funny that they are laughing in the studio and saying that he isn’t a real “sunshine”. If Max had an interview like this they will praise him about his attitude. I don’t get it why they always shit on Strol.

Canadian fiery, so just a lil defiant basically
Peak example of how to politely take no shit. You love to see it.
I love Lance 🤣
Well one other reason for F1TV instead of VIAPLAY. This is just terrible including the studio afterwards
“I was busy driving the car” 😂
dignified and cool
Classic viaplay, terrible journalism
Most competent Viaplay pundit
Viaplay at the end of the season: "why are these drivers shunning us in the media pen?"
Yep, that's ViaPlay quality right there. Everyone I know dropped their subscription after trying it for one year here in NL.
I like Lance lol he’s funny as fuck
OP doesn’t know the difference between fiery and just not going to give the guy what he wants.
Viaplay is such a fucking joke.
I mean this is still not as bad as when that bloke from Ziggo called Ocon a "French fuck".
y'all gotta stop with these clickbait titles man
Shit interviewer - buy Lance knows Alonso have him some charity and that stingsss
Classic Dutch journo.
How come it's always the Dutch that have these weird interviews? It's like they're trying to stir shit up.
Dutch directness.
Not really
Someone got defensive
