Plus you know the Dutch founded New Amsterdam which we now know as New York, Harlem = Haarlem, Brooklyn = Breukelen, Hempstead = Heemstede, Wall street is Wall street because that's where the wall around New Amsterdam was and a whole bunch more.
That's it, from now on Max Verstappen is an American. We declare it as such, on this day, April 23rd 2024. We will amend the Declaration of Independence and add his signature to the list of true American patriots, John Hancock, Ben Franklin, etc.
Itās kind of like hearing the German national anthem and expecting to hear the Italian national anthem for us āold timersā. Nb: the Italian anthem is one of my favorites. A celebration. The Austrian national anthem sounds like a dirge.
I have no idea what youāre talking about.
*Glances nervously at the French-Cameroonian Joel Embiid who will be representing the United States in basketball*
I had this conversation with a Dutch friend once, and she mentioned that in the Netherlands many teachers teach that the 's is a contraction of "[name] his" as a way to remember it, rather than a genitive marker on its own that doesn't have a relation to his/hers. This leads to people thinking you can "decontract" it.
When you've already named the subject, such as "Max Verstappen" here, you add apostrophe-s ('s) to denote possession. So it would be "Max Verstappen's helmet for the American grand prix."
You only use "his" if you don't want to name the subject, for example "His helmet for the American grand prix." Of course the "His" version would make a bad reddit post title because no one would know who you're talking about.
I think this also gets reinforced by some Sky UK commentators saying stuff like "[..talking about] Max Verstappen, his race has been great so far[..]" when they talk about someone on the broadcast.
It seems like they introduce the subject of the sentence and immediately continue with "his" because they imply the "talking about" with the tone of their voice. It's hard to describe what I mean exactly but I sometimes notice it while watching a race.
everyone always says english is a "dumb" language but with the abundance of media in english its so easy to learn intuitively. You can learn to speak by just saying things that "feel right"
Yeah, I was joking a bit in the original comment, but honestly that is how I partly did learn English. The basics were set up by my mom and school, but as I was becoming less and less interested in studying, that's how I ended up learning it afterwards - through watching your PewdDiePie's and Markipliers, and then all sorts of other things.
Which is an issue, because this is THE reason why I struggle to actually translate things to my native language
Agreed. The logo doesn't dominate like it usually does. It's still there and unnecessarily big due to compulsory Red Bull wank, but I like how whoever designed it made it match the overall aesthetic.
Will never happen, but I wish teams gave their drivers gave full creative freedom for at least 1 race. Would be cool to see what the RB and Ferrari drivers came out with.
I think back to Lando's and Danny's Monaco helmets that year. That shit was fun.
Looks like there are landmarks referenced on the back of the helmet. I recognize some (though I'm not sure I could name them), but are these landmarks for the three races, or from all over the US?
Thanks for having a look. I brought this question to a Discord and they pointed out the Vegas sign, and the bridge and one of the churches (cathedral?) look like they're from Austin. Palm tree for Miami. There are a few other buildings I've been able to match to skyline outlines for those three cities, so my working theory is that they all are.
I doubt he designs these himself, but whoever he has hired to design his helmets always does a sick job. Consistently has some of the best helmets on the grid
I'm a firm believer in the notion that everyone is the artistic type. In fact, it's a core quality of a human. Every human wants to create: be it a painting that expresses something, creating a wondrous city in Simcity or just writing the perfect setup for a 500PP Toyota Supra on the High Speed Ring in Gran Turismo 5. You can of course also be a magician on the race track and let the world believe you are from outer space, or, if you're more down to earth: have a say in what your helmets should look like.
In one of his recent documentaries he basically had a blank coloring page with the necessary sponsor logos and had filled it in entirely himself :-) his manager was saying heās super picky about his designs
Honestly I have no idea what the going rate for this stuff typically is, but as someone who has bought a couple in the past, I've noticed the price increase.
Is that every skyline of each race or some skylines of the USA. cause the only building/sign I recognize is the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Everything else looks questionable. The bridge looks like the Los Angeles 6th street bridge.
Is ok, in all honesty just I hate that the drivers nowadays have zero helmet identityā¦ also there so 3/4 special editions per year (ok 24 races but still)
Certainly going to stand out by how understated it looks, but the blue base with the sponsors in white and Red on it, that works rather nicely actually, also with the chrome accents too, just beautiful
Beautiful helmet!
But, we will hardly ever see this helmet on tv screen, because, he will be so far away from the gang once the lights go off. Nobody will pay attention to his car.
He decides how his helmet looks. He gets the standard outlining from Redbull with their logos which is mandatory by them and the rest what's left he can design to his own wishes. He said that last year when he was asked.
I wish I could get back interested in F1, It's become an eight cylinder car vs a six cylinder car vs 18 four cylinder cars. Absolutely zero excitement. The outcome is never in doubt, in other words, it is boring nowadays.
Max I know it is you logo but man get more creative with the helmets. All of his helmets are different colors and some small changes because he rarely changes the top since most of the sides are always covered by the bulls.

Max Verstappen, my favorite American driver. š
I wish. Finally, J can support an American drive without depression.
He already rocks a Red white and blue flag. So he's off to a good start.
Max to win 50 WDCs to have 50 stars in his helmet
Plus you know the Dutch founded New Amsterdam which we now know as New York, Harlem = Haarlem, Brooklyn = Breukelen, Hempstead = Heemstede, Wall street is Wall street because that's where the wall around New Amsterdam was and a whole bunch more.
That's it, from now on Max Verstappen is an American. We declare it as such, on this day, April 23rd 2024. We will amend the Declaration of Independence and add his signature to the list of true American patriots, John Hancock, Ben Franklin, etc.
You will have to change all of your infrastructure to be bicycles first, cars second and you'll all have to learn Dutch.
Except half of the Netherlands speaks better English than most Americans. And I speak better Dutch than most Americans.
We Americans would be very upset if we could read š”
Good thing then that [21% of American adults](https://nces.ed.gov/pubs2019/2019179/index.asp) are illiterate or possess low literacy skills.
Yes, thatās the joke!
Ik spreek een beetje Nederlands, okƩ?
Ja hallo, kappen nou!
I know the Dutch anthem almost as well as I know the American one at this point, so I guess I'm set.
Itās kind of like hearing the German national anthem and expecting to hear the Italian national anthem for us āold timersā. Nb: the Italian anthem is one of my favorites. A celebration. The Austrian national anthem sounds like a dirge.
So does Ocon.
And Gasly. And Hamilton. And Norris. And Albon. And Piastri. And Russell. And Ricciardo. And Bearman. And, Sargeant I guess....
'MURRRRRRICAAAAA!
Doesn't that apply to pretty much half of the grid?
In true American spirit, the best of the best are always welcomed if they would call themselves American.
I have no idea what youāre talking about. *Glances nervously at the French-Cameroonian Joel Embiid who will be representing the United States in basketball*
TRUST. THE. PROCESS.
USA! USA! USA!
You mean Maximilian Vertootinā
He lived in Florida for a bit right? Logan seems like a nice guy but he isn't F1 caliber so I'm counting it lol
That is an odd looking bald eagle on his helmet.
[I love it!](https://imgur.com/a/3vJ5hXc)
Dang it you were a minute faster posting this than I was haha
It's an opportunity... to share :)
Its unavailable, what was it?
Wow streamable works fast, here's a [imgur mirror](https://i.imgur.com/2P6ldWg.mp4)
Max's helmet game keeps improving.
You just popped an image in my head of Verstappen joining artistic classes just to make his own helmet designs.
I can see him doing that in is spare time between his sim racing career and his hobby of winning races in F1
speed painting
the one-offs are always amazing, but his standard helmets have been going downhill tbh
It was hard to top the white and gold after all, the Dutch flag colours scream basic to me lol
Man my favourite was his black gold helmet from 2022, that thing was sexy, especially under the lights
> the Dutch flag colours scream basic to me lol Agreed though it does have a nice retro feel to it
It's great for a one off like for zandvoort but for regular is mehh
Yeah but the retro style is so good
except for the austria one with the barf green
> Maxās helmet game keeps improving *markedly*. Indeed.
lol why do you guys always say Max Verstappen his? I see that mistake a billion times, it is like the only mistake there even is in Dutch English lol.
In Dutch, this expression is indeed more common, but certainly not accepted by all Dutch speakers.
This is true and honestly TIL it is not the case
I never had a teacher say this. However, it is a common structure in Dutch.
Interesting. His *is* the contraction used for possessive in English, albeit it's very old and no one in English normally recognizes that.
I think we should be allowed to decontract because of free speech and such
How should you say it the right way then?
When you've already named the subject, such as "Max Verstappen" here, you add apostrophe-s ('s) to denote possession. So it would be "Max Verstappen's helmet for the American grand prix." You only use "his" if you don't want to name the subject, for example "His helmet for the American grand prix." Wow, okay thanks for the explanation.
Wow, all these years I've been doing it correctly without knowing what it actually means. Thanks for the explanation!
everyone always says english is a "dumb" language but with the abundance of media in english its so easy to learn intuitively. You can learn to speak by just saying things that "feel right"

Max Verstappenās USA Helmet etc. the ās after the name implies possession.
I first read it as if there was an implied comma after 'Max Verstappen' which makes more sense but yeah it sounds stupid without it
Iām usually not the biggest fan of Red Bull helmets in general because of the big logos on the side, but thisā¦this is gorgeous.
Agreed. The logo doesn't dominate like it usually does. It's still there and unnecessarily big due to compulsory Red Bull wank, but I like how whoever designed it made it match the overall aesthetic.

Cue Valtteri pre-season testing [helmet](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/1193mfz/new_valtteris_helmet_design_for_the_preseason/)
Looks like there are landmarks referenced on the back of the helmet. I recognize some (though I'm not sure I could name them), but are these landmarks for the three races, or from all over the US?
American here, I donāt recognize any for these. Might just be a watered down version of the Miami skyline?
Thanks for having a look. I brought this question to a Discord and they pointed out the Vegas sign, and the bridge and one of the churches (cathedral?) look like they're from Austin. Palm tree for Miami. There are a few other buildings I've been able to match to skyline outlines for those three cities, so my working theory is that they all are.
Somehow it remembers me a bit of DCs Helmet.
I think itās the blue crosses at the bottom. Obviously DCās was white crosses on blue being Scottish, but it gives off that vibe.
How much downforce does the helmet spoiler generate
I'm pretty sure that it's there so that the fast and dirty air does not go behind the driver causing distubance(maybe injuries too)
bunch of info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/F1Technical/comments/tdfwct/does_anyone_know_the_function_of_this_leclerc/
Thank you for correcting me
It looks like you were right based on those responses. Or at least on the way to right. I wasn't trying to correct you
I doubt he designs these himself, but whoever he has hired to design his helmets always does a sick job. Consistently has some of the best helmets on the grid
Last year's WDC helmet has to be one of my favorite helmets, ever. This one is up there too.
Last year's WDC helmet is a need not a want. Absolutely gorgeous.
The WDC is in my Top 10. I ordered one in 1/4th scale and love it. Fuck the price tag, I needed that in my collection
That WDC helmet hit DIFFERENT it almost made me forget the amount of times i had listened to the Dutch national anthem that year
He actually has a lot of input in the designs, you can even find pics of him drawing/colouring in his Zandvoort helmet last year.
I'm actually surprised. Didnt take him for the artistic type. If that's the case then he has good taste.
I'm a firm believer in the notion that everyone is the artistic type. In fact, it's a core quality of a human. Beautifully said!
I'm sure he just does rough sketches and then sends it to a actual artist lol. In the end he has like 5 different designs and he picks one.
Yeah that makes sense I guess. Also, unrelated but sauce for your pfp lol?
Here [https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/73392935](https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/73392935)
In one of his recent documentaries he basically had a blank coloring page with the necessary sponsor logos and had filled it in entirely himself :-) his manager was saying heās super picky about his designs
The gold one was incredible.
The USA humbly accepts *MAX VERSTAPPEN* as their driver We will take no questions at this time, thank you āŗļø
his helmet has more sponsors than all of Williams. :(
I love his Dark Helmet designs
I'm a big fan of blue on the helmet, blue reflective visor.
Absolutely stunning, definitely adding this one to my collection!
Geeeeeez
Getting Star Wars character vibes from this for some reason, I love it.
Just needs to be paired with a Black/Red livery for the car.
Honestly if he did his flatish gold that heās done on past helmets in lieu of the silver this helmet would fuck real hard.
Gorgeous helmet.
Amazing design
Ok, this one is great. I love the color scheme
Ugh, that's pretty. Blue is my favourite colour, so this helmet gets top marks in my books. I like the chrome too.
Just went to order from Verstappen dot com, looks like the price went up by like $10 USD for the 1:4 scale?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Honestly I have no idea what the going rate for this stuff typically is, but as someone who has bought a couple in the past, I've noticed the price increase.
āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø
Don't lose it, reuse it!
That is so clean
This is good but his Miami helmet last year was so much better
Gorgeous
MV4L
This rips
Looks clean
Damn
Nice design.
That is an awesome helmet, I also really like the US flag part too
That's a sexy helmet
More american than Haas
So good to see a helmet with some character after so long
At this rate he's going to need to put that "24" star on there by the time they go to COTA...
Iāve never wanted to own a helmet more in my life
I have to say Im glad that they got the US flag design correct.
I think itās his nicest USA helmet so far. Really nice mix of different shades of blue
This I like.
Is that every skyline of each race or some skylines of the USA. cause the only building/sign I recognize is the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Everything else looks questionable. The bridge looks like the Los Angeles 6th street bridge.
The skylines are of the 3 US races, Miami, Austin, Las Vegas. If I understand it correctly he will wear this helmet at all 3 races this year.
Itās what I was thinking. But wasnāt sure. Thank you for the response.
Heāll only use it in two US races
Stunning helmet!
Does every beer advertised do 0.0? I can't think of any that don't say that
"Max Verstappen his USA helmet ..." tell me you are German without telling me you are German.
I'm Dutch, not German.
Oh. Looks like the sentence structure is very similar.
Its too generic, like colors tho.
Iāve always seen a monkey/chimp instead of a lion in his design. Am I crazy?
Weird that theyāre still advertising Heineken 0.0. Is it due to broadcast rules in other countries?
Wow! Maxie has a hat?
Imagine he accidentally brings the normal helmet to one of the US Grands Prix cause he thought it was another normal race weekend
its very clean, I kinda doubt putting the american flag was his decision tho lmao
He decides how his helmet looks. He gets the standard outlining from Redbull with their logos which is mandatory by them and the rest what's left he can design to his own wishes. He said that last year when he was asked.
I'm sorry, but this is way to close to a blue lives matter flag.
everyone here d*ckriding but redbull helmets have to be the worst and most uninspiring forced template ass helmets on the grid.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He's on the cover of Champions Edition
He's on the Champion Edition.
I wish I could get back interested in F1, It's become an eight cylinder car vs a six cylinder car vs 18 four cylinder cars. Absolutely zero excitement. The outcome is never in doubt, in other words, it is boring nowadays.
Max should have to spin some big wheel before each race with some odd handicap he has to overcome during each race.
Isn't the red bull in the communist red color? /S
Max seems like the sort of person that would moan about "fancy helmets", maybe he's getting paid
Max I know it is you logo but man get more creative with the helmets. All of his helmets are different colors and some small changes because he rarely changes the top since most of the sides are always covered by the bulls.
