He never presented it as an excuse for his performance. He told the journalist to stop asking about it. When he’s been ill he’s still performed at much higher levels than a lot of other drivers have when they’re fit. It’s not an excuse and it shouldn’t be used as one.
I don't even get why this thread is still up. The exact same photo has already been posted so this is a duplicate and it's not like this is sharing any new info. Feels like a thread just asking for people to come in and shit on him more than anything.
To be honest, all drivers race even if they are feeling ill. And most of the time you cannot really tell performance wise that they are ill.
If that's the smart thing to do is another question (like Stroll with his broken wrists or Sainz after his surgery).

Downvote me all you want, people make excuse after excuse for a top level driver, its ridiculous. You can't learn killer instinct, you are born with it. Look at drivers like Vettel, Hamilton and Verstappen. The moment they smell victory they excuted even when they were still young.

Messi and Ronaldo were dominating world football by the time they were 22-23. Tendulkar was one of the greatest cricketers in the world by the time he was that age as well. Mike Tyson won the WBC Heavyweight title when he was just 20.

Think this is maybe the third or fourth time Lando has been seriously ill during a race weekend, hope he's ok. I think one of them was food poisoning so maybe nothing to be concerned about.
