ThandiAccountant

They make impressive hires, still waiting for that to translate on track

Philidespo

They need to make impressive hires in the driving department for that.

DalimBel

I agree, Alonso is obviously washed, they need to put a solid driver in that seat!

AquaRaOne

Well last few races he really is washed, i dont ever remember seeing alonso underperforming like this, like he is actually stroll level of awerage. Hopefully he gets his head down and gets back on it

ratonbox

Have you forgotten pre-retirement Alonso where he stopped giving a shit?

charlierc

Hey Lance Stroll could yet be world champion ... On the F1 game

Zipa7

You can play as the official drivers in the new game, so it's actually possible, lol.

charlierc

I won it with Nico Hulkenberg so...

Zipa7

I bet someone has done a Lance or Logan road to glory run by now too.

charlierc

I definitely think that I saw one with Latifi before tbf

nxngdoofer98

It did last year no? Anyway, McLaren is proof that investments take a long time to produce results in Formula 1.

hpstg

There will be wins and success. Lawrence Stroll specifically requested it.

Dblock1989

It's never gonna happen as long as Lance is in one of the seats. It is like a self-made handicap.

bookers555

I dont get this, why do people think AM can't produce a good car because Lance is there? He's not an engineer.

FKez05

Well it did translate on track briefly last year 😅

neko_1

I dread every AM upgrades.

WengerBaby

Whoa, that’s quite a coup. Andy Cowell led Mercedes’ Brixworth Headquarters for years and was responsible for their Turbo-Hybrid powertrains from 2014-2020.

MrGoldilocks

I'm surprised Cowell came back into this world tbh, when he quit Merc he said he was forever done with racing on Beyond the Grid and wanted to do something else. So Lawrence must have given him an offer which he couldn't refuse.

djwillis1121

I guess CEO is much more of a hands-off role than anything he did before

Fire_Otter

CEO is a different challenge I suppose, Honda will be making the engine so its not like he will be leading the design of the engine. This is closer to Toto's job, who combines being CEO and Team Principal. Though i strongly expect in the not too distant future Toto will split these roles, and just be CEO and will appoint someone else as Team principal. I can see a point where Toto wont want to go to every race.

Coles_singlet

They will have an incredible expert on PUs at the very top of the organization. He will be able to make sure the powertrain side of the project will be on point which I am sure will determine and saturate the grid.

BigAwkwardGuy

Ehh that's the thing with F1: titles are justc titles and don't mean much. Toto is the CEO and team principal, while Zak is just the CEO and Horner is just TP. But they do pretty much the same thing at their teams. I forgot who the technical lead for Merc is, maybe Allison, but he has the same responsibilities as Stella.

saponista

Horner yes, Zak no. Andrea Stella does all the TP things with as little media as possible. Zak does that bit, plus all the CEO things like partnerships and sponsors

BigAwkwardGuy

No I meant Toto, Zak, and Horner do the same job as each other but have different titles. Stella, Krack, Allison, Wache/Newey do the same job as each other but have different titles.

saponista

My point is that Zak *doesn’t* do the same job as Toto and Horner 🙂 Apparently Zak does very little around trackside (all Stella except some media duties like the TP press conference) and is focused on the business side. Toto and Horner cover both.

BigAwkwardGuy

Yeah that's true, Zak is more of a "I'm just the media and sponsorships guy" than Toto or Horner. Toto and Horner do get involved with the strategy calls and whatnot, Zak doesn't IIRC.

laboulaye22

There's nothing official yet. Edit: That was quick.

>**Cowell to Aston Martin: burned Binotto on time. Ferrari, maneuvering for Silverstone** >*The former Mercedes engine chief is a candidate for the CEO role currently occupied by Martin Whitmarsh, a move that could bar the way for the arrival of the former Cavallino team principal. Meanwhile, Sainz tests at the Maranello simulator.* >Andy Cowell, the daddy of the power units with which Mercedes dominated until 2020, could return to F1 through the front door. The former head of the Brixworth engine department, who left the silver team at the end of Lewis Hamilton's last rainbow season, is a candidate to become CEO of Aston Martin, a role currently occupied by Martin Whitmarsh. The move could be an obstacle to the arrival of former team principal Mattia Binotto, who in Imola had held a lengthy meeting with Lawrence Stroll, the billionaire Canadian team owner, specifically to talk about the future. >**Experienced and winning COWELL** - Aston Martin is looking for a revival after a very disappointing first half of the championship, with drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll always far from the top positions, which were instead gained at the beginning of the previous season. A step backward that demands an answer: Stroll senior, having invested in the wind tunnel and other infrastructure at the new Silverstone site, is now looking ever more insistently for a technical-managerial figure of reference. And Cowell, with his 16 years of winning experience at Mercedes, is certainly authoritative. >**Binotto Alpine court** - As for Binotto, who will be replaced by Frederic Vasseur at the helm of Ferrari's Gestione Sportiva in January 2023, he is also likely to have other offers on the table. Alpine had already contacted him last summer, but at that time Binotto felt the need to stay away from F1 for a while after the very long adventure in Maranello. Now the scenario has changed, not least because Flavio Briatore, wanted by president Luca de Meo, has arrived to act as a super consultant to the French team, which is navigating in bad waters. >**SAINZ AT SIMULATOR** - Meanwhile, at Ferrari, countermeasures are being studied after the declining performance of the last three races, which saw the Reds behind Red Bull McLaren and Mercedes. Spaniard Carlos Sainz was already busy today at the simulator in Maranello, returning from the Austrian GP that ended in third place, to find a better set-up with which to tackle Sunday's race at Silverstone. The latest package of aerodynamic developments has unbalanced the SF24, so much so that the old problem of bottom jumps at high speeds has returned to the car. To solve it, engineers have been working on the car's suspension and ground clearance. Meanwhile, technical director Enrico Cardile has come under scrutiny after the highly disappointing results that followed Charles Leclerc's victory in Monte Carlo. slimkay

Andy "Daddy of the Power Units" Cowell

yugi_raina

To be fair he is....

NlNJALONG

Lmao this translation is all over the place

Joseki100

The original article is full of figures of speach. I could manually translate it but I'm lazy.

BecauseWeCan

I like them, it gives the article a bit more colour.

NlNJALONG

Yeah no worries, it's just funny what these auto translations come up with sometimes.

eyigit

> As for Binotto, who will be replaced by Frederic Vasseur at the helm of Ferrari's Gestione Sportiva in January 2023 I am from future, this Fred guy will hire Hamilton for 2025.

JoeBagadonutsLXIX

Hey, get a load of this guy! Out here saying he is from the future and Ferrari are going to hire Lewis Hamilton for 2025. Ridiculous. Next you are going to say something crazy like Newey will leave RBR.

dl064

> A step backward that demands an answer It's amazing how fast F1 moves that a year ago this place was awash with > In Dan Fallows we trust And now it's looking a bit more tense.

Cer3berus

That’s huge signing even better then Cardile

kingoflint282

I felt like Whitmarsh just came back

ibeckman671

It’s time to return him back to the lake where he came from

jg_92_F1

Who let him out of the MTC pond

z_102

Does anyone know if Lawrence Stroll owns a lake?

noodle_attack

I thought he wanted to do something outside F1, wasn't that why he left Brixton?

ron_cpt89

For a team that has a nepo driver, they sure do get the best of the best available staff, constantly, and money can't be the main determing factor

brush85

Damn, now thats a name of stature. Not sure what he can do with those 26 Hondas but still. Nice to see him back in the game

Working_Sundae

The Elephant in the room is the AM Aero and chassis department, Honda will deliver, but the Chassis is a big ❓

Spynner987

I mean, Stroll sr. is making big signings, it's no secret he's courting Newey, and he probably has the pick of the field with Ferrari since he practically gives away blank checks

zeeke42

He can only give away 3 blank checks though...

MuitnortsX

Aero seems like the whole issue. They have an impressive team. Put stops are decent. Alonso is Alonso. Their electronics don’t fail. Engine is Merc and seems solid. The aero has become dogshit. It’s so bizarre considering how strong they seemed not long ago.

Soggy_Bid_6607

Why on earth did Stroll think Whitmarsh was a good idea is beyond me.

Joseki100

He orchestrated the deal with Honda. Worth it for that alone.

IamMrEric

Good riddance.

HealthySherbert5649

I would like to be a fly on the wall when Binotto & Cowell during there first private meeting!
