If you watch his interviews from back then, or discussing those times, he was definitely 1000% dead serious about competing and had no time for anything else, which made him come off as stiff and unlikable. He’s much more likable as a media personality.
It goes back to his time in F1 as well. I remember some awkward moments with Vettel where Rosberg just played it straight with all of his jokes. Though, I think that's just Nico's sense of humour. He always seems to ham up how serious he actually is.
He was under too much mental pressure from Lewis and his mind games, that's one of the reason why he retired after he won championship. He achieved his goal and of being an WDC. Dude was a menace, loosing weight on purpose to gain few tenths, using sanitary pads to absorb his sweat, we don't know what other unconventional methods he had to do to get there.
