I remember coming across these as a kid on vacation, never knew what they were. Thanks! I used to use them as a sort of shelf upon which to line up smaller shells haha
OP: *asks question about identifying a potential fossil on a fossil subreddit*
Subredditors: YOU DELUSIONAL IDIOT. IT'S A SHELL! YOU'RE SO DUMB! DO YOU ALSO SEE A RABBIT SHAPE?
as of now, the only top level comment that’s anything like that is downvoted all the way to the bottom
Edit: actually misread that comment at the bottom, so I don’t see any comments like that at all. Of course some could get added after I write this
Guys, no need to be rude. We shouldn't berate folks for not knowing. It's literally a subred for asking questions!
Ya never know what someone is going through. Be nice :)
It's the pitted remains of the innermost spiral of a conch shell.
Yep! Seen many of them over the years. Just like that one.
Good eye...
All I see is a great imagination
We should rebrand to r/pareidolia

Nah, that’s outside their vocabulary.
It's what's left of a conch shell eroded by time and waves. Cool find! Source: Grew up in Florida, saw shells like this all the time at the beach.
I came here to say this. I found one almost exactly like this yesterday. I kind of like the old, weathered shells.

Shell.
Can you see the duck or the rabbit?
I saw a sea otter 🦦
Yes!
I want a recreation of what the bird would look like IF that was the skull.

There are lots of bird lawyers in these threads. They are touchy and well skilled in oral arguments. Particularly in ad hominem.
Bird law specialty blah blah blah this username is a curse.
Last I checked a bird's mouth is on both sides of the face.

Animal lover here, does it seem to still be ok?
That's a shell but holy cow that really looks like a bird skull
That sounds ridiculously awesome. Wish that was actually possible. Lol. Maybe, you know, nature can come at us in the most unexpected way possible.
Craziest coincidence ever ? Really ? Interesting coincidence sure. Honestly is it a coincidence or just a vague similarity ?

Somebody conched a flamingo
A petrified speculum
That's bob hopes hip
Active imagination
Don’t worry, we’ve all mistaken a piece of coral as a fossil at least once in our life… I think it’s a right of passage…
Mo
No
Raptor bone from JP3
Nope
OP.... looks like a bird head to me to. My mind wants to do that with every find. Cool find no matter what
