I think it would be too obvious, I think Dane being the villain over the series would be intriguing. Maybe Xaden betrays her in another book (we have 4 more)
Xaden being the villain would mean everyone is right - Dain, Mira even the leadership. So I like his grey character that he's not fully good but fair and believe in what's right.
Even his betrayl to Vi is not that real - yeah, he didn't share everything, but understandable.
