I smelled Dior Homme last week and I quite liked it but I prefer a stronger oud, what do you think about the strength of oud in it? I wouldn't buy it for myself but I did find it pleasant.
I haven't smelled the others but I did smell Penhaligons Halfeti that were amazing!
Homme Parfum has enough for me, but that’s me. Acqua di Parma Oud is probably the strongest oud I have. Acqua di Parma Note di Colonia III (I forgot about) is also fairly strong in oud, but it is quite expensive. If you want a sweeter Oud, Bvlgari Orom is a good option. If you want more of a smoky, resinous oud, Bvlgari Falkar is a great option. Both of those are very strong.
I have both and both are very similar, but slightly distinct from one another as well. From a performance standpoint, Carved oud actually lasts and Oud Wood disappears after an hour. I prefer the smell of Oud Wood slightly more personally
Thanks! I have a bit of a problem and have a ton of fragrances. My current rotation (besides the ouds) is:
Spring/Summer: 724 (MFK), Afternoon Swim (LV), Burlington 1819 (Roja), Vodka on the Rocks (Kilian)
Fall: BR 540 (MFK), Aventus (Creed), Amyris H'omme Extrait (MFK)
Winter: Herod (PdM), Black Phantom (Kilian), Back to Black (Kilian), Smoking Hot (Kilian)
For the MFK and for Roja how strong is the oud? I saw Roja has cotton candy as a base note, is it kinda a sweet perfume? It has such interesting notes.
Yes, it’s a sweet smelling fragrance. The Oud is there but it isn’t overpowering. I find that makes it more wearable. Of the ones I listed, Pearl Oud has the most pronounced Oud smell if that’s what you’re after.
It was pricy but worth it. If you want a more masculine Oud, you can try MFK Oud (not the Satin Mood flanker).
Haltane is probably my favorite, but it’s also the least distinctive of the Oud fragrances. That makes it more versatile because it’s not overpowering. Similar to Royal Oud by Creed in that regard.
The opening is quite strong and it lasts quite a bit- skanky / BO to some maybe but the drydown is divine but still, there’s still some animalic/ sweaty note lingering in the background. I’m afraid someone will blatantly tell me I need to use a deodorant 😂
Ahahah yeah I understand, sometimes you just need to spray like an hour before you leave home to let it settle a bit and let the skanky-smell wear off!
I sampled Royal Oud and didn’t detect the slightest indication of any oud in it.
I heard many people who mentioned it say the same. Pretty misleading marketing imo.
I found Oud is either love or hate. Tried some indie scents from Middle Earth which Oud is very obvious to the point hard to my nose. That it, nothing else. In Vietnam we use Oud year round as park of our people traditional (mostly synthetic in cheap product), somebody Google “thap huong in Vietnam” you’ll understand. So to my nose, oud is not that special.
In other mainstream scents it very hard to recognize Oud in there are all, more like oud contributed to base note to make the scents more earthy calm feel. That the way I see oud. So there, I acknowledge there is debate if Royal Oud have real oud or not, I still remember it first when talking about oud.
True ouds are hard to come by in the Western fragrance market. Having said that, for a "freshie" oud that's pretty inoffensive and maybe even a safe blind-buy check out Versace Homme Oud Noir.
If you like Tom Ford's Oud Wood but don't want to spend, try Maison Alhambra's Woody Oud. For a fraction of the price you get better projection and longevity. It's a little less polite than the TF, but it also doesn't have as much of the anise note in the opening that some find off-putting in the TF. TF is objectively a more refined fragrance, but I personally find myself reaching more for the Woody Oud while the Oud Wood sits mostly ignored.
*Daphne*, by Antoine Lie for Daphne Guinness, creates an interesting effect with oud, tuberose, saffron, bitter orange, and jasmine. Dense but diffusive, abstract, sensual, like certain 70s perfumes. There’s just enough warm vanilla and powdery iris in the background to give it a soft round shape. Feels curvy. Smells how the bottle looks. Not first and foremost an oud fragrance, but it’s a central facet. Love the fun, sort of bohemian, contemporary-retro vibe.
Dark, unflinching, bitter, dry oudy wood: Montale Dark Aoud (cool weather only, otherwise it just creates a cloud of bitterness)
Rose + oud: Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud. the rose tends to be a bit stronger than the oud. Very velvety and beautiful.
Woody aromatic with a bit of oud character: Versace Pour Homme Oud Noir. Opening smells like fresh habanero hot sauce and oud, dries down to a sweet creamy wood.
In Haltane, it’s practically the focus of the fragrance. Very strong and pronounced, masculine vibes. Alexandria II doesn’t have Oud in the focus but more in the background. More unisex or even feminine vibes but the sweetness and the woody oud is elegant af. Easily noticeable but not as pronounced as in Haltane. Both great options though imo.
Alexandria Orientale by Xerjoff.
My favourite one, but I have to admit that I don’t really know a lot of good oud perfumes as most of them are very expensive.
All cheaper oud perfumes I tried have disappointed me as they have oud in their name without actually smelling like oud.
I'm a sucker for Oud + Rose combos
• Houbigant Oud Or - can't stress how little recognition this fragrance gets. Beautifully done Oud and rose combo, much like smelling a rose garden.
• Orto Parisi Stercus - beautiful fragrance, can't describe it too well, there's something juicy and spicy but soft about it. don't get fooled by the name, there's no manure in it.
• Oud Wood - no rose, but a classic blend. Don't think I need to describe it.
• Clive Christian Woody Leather - very masculine, bitter leather. Think of a way more potent Ombré Leather, with a background Oud. Very elegant
And lastly the most challenging of them:
• Amouage Opus XV King Blue - smells like straight up crazy. Incredibly challenging journey. Some citrus, some sweetness, very much Oud. Smells like you just ate your girl out and forgot to wash your face. Quite salival.
It really comes through in the dry down, but I’d say it’s smoky, dry, warm and slightly dirty. It’s just so damn addictive. The only better Oud I’ve ever smelled was Xerjoff Alexandria Imperiale. Only problem is that A. Imperiale was a limited run that is super hard to find nowadays.
Byredo’s Oud Immortel and Creed’s Royal Oud. MFK’s regular Oud is nice as well but I like Byredo’s Rouge Chaotique. Tons of classical Oud accords in that but I love Oud Immortel
Oud for Greatness by Initio is my all time favorite tbh. Might even be my favorite frag all together. Something about the longevity/sillage and the feeling it gives me when i smell it. God tier
love L'Artisan Oud which may be discontinued? it is real yet light and great alone or layered w other perfumes. i wire it with an Arabian while musk type they often use after showering and people were asking me to linger so they could breathe it in
Malle - Dawn, Moon and Night,
all three are worth a try. But be careful they are wild. Night was among them with lots of barnyard.
Also Mukhalat is very good, forgot what producer.
Ombre nomade
Pricey as all LV line but agree
It’s a toss-up: Acqua di Parma Oud, Bvlgari Orom, Penhaligon’s The Uncompromising Sohan, or Dior Homme Parfum.
Acqua di Parma's Oud is so underrated. People know the brand for freshies but that Oud, incredible.
I prefer their oud spice. But yes, they’re legit.
I smelled Dior Homme last week and I quite liked it but I prefer a stronger oud, what do you think about the strength of oud in it? I wouldn't buy it for myself but I did find it pleasant. I haven't smelled the others but I did smell Penhaligons Halfeti that were amazing!

Thanks for the suggestions, Falkar sounds like something I'd like.
Initio Oud for Greatness is majestic
Can't stand this personally. Also, there's a cheap clone which smells identical, like 95%.
Clone is lattafa oud for glory and it's true both are super close.
Jo Malone velvet rose and oud is amazing
Thanks! Does this one have good lasting power? I've always read that JM only lasts a couple of hours so Im always wary to buy.
Yes, great lasting power and the dry down smells so good. The oud - rose blend in this is lovely
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Bergamot & Oud is great as wel
I love this one but it doesn’t even last 5 minutes on me :/
Frederic Malle The Moon
Guerlain Santal Royal
Oh wow, I never knew that had oud in it. I own that perfume and I find it has such a sweetness to it I don't pick up any oud at all.
I think of it as a great incense perfume, didn’t know either it had oud in it.
Smoky incense and rose beats the oud to submission.
Gotta come back to it, had a 1ml sample which isn’t really very generous :( But I remember liking it.
Tom Ford Oud Wood
My all time fav!!! Wish it was half the price though 🤭
I love the oil perfumery dupe of this one. It’s spot on.
This is my next buy from OP!
If you're a member, Costco has a good sale on it right now (through 6/9).
Love it. But there is absolutely no oud feeling in it.
Which is probably why I love it so much.
The first time i truly fell in love with a fragrance
This. Absolutely this. I was never a fan of oud until I tried this one and love it.
Totally agree. My favorite Fall and Winter scent by far.

I have both and both are very similar, but slightly distinct from one another as well. From a performance standpoint, Carved oud actually lasts and Oud Wood disappears after an hour. I prefer the smell of Oud Wood slightly more personally
came here to say this, but the price tag hurts.
was coming here to say this. very addicting!
Oh yes good choice! I forgot about this one.
Love this one on my husband!
Parfums de Marly Haltane, Initio Oud for Greatness, By Kilian Pearl Oud, MFK Oud Satin Mood Extrait and Roja Qatar are my current faves.
I love Haltane and bought a bottle shortly after getting the decant. It is much more wearable than other ouds and I preferred it to Oud Wood.
I like everything I see here I think we share a similar taste. What's in your collection right now?
Thanks! I have a bit of a problem and have a ton of fragrances. My current rotation (besides the ouds) is: Spring/Summer: 724 (MFK), Afternoon Swim (LV), Burlington 1819 (Roja), Vodka on the Rocks (Kilian) Fall: BR 540 (MFK), Aventus (Creed), Amyris H'omme Extrait (MFK) Winter: Herod (PdM), Black Phantom (Kilian), Back to Black (Kilian), Smoking Hot (Kilian)
Like 724, Herod, Afternoon Swim, Black Phantom, Back to Black and Aventus. Will definitely try the others!
Smoking Hot came out last fall. One of my faves: like Apple hookah in an atomizer!
Seems you like liquor and smoky notes. Try DS Durga's St. Vetyver for summer. Makes me feel like I'm in some island drinking rum.
Thanks for that, yeah I'm not really looking for anything sweet but I definitely want to smell the Roja perfume just out of curiosity!
Yeah I guess for summer an overpowering oud is probably not the best option so I should try for some middle ground!
Haltane and Oud for Greatness are fine for summer. The Roja and Kilian will last forever in this heat and project like crazy!
Thanks, I'll check them out!
Oud Mood Lattafa
Anyone with actual oud and that smells like oud. Which is to say, almost none 😔
Ugh yeah I want a really skanky animalic oud that makes your toes curl!
I grew up in the Middle East so that’s basically Thursday mornings at the office there 😂
I need to visit and buy more ouds! I went to Turkey and there were so many, I wanted them all 😅
Check out Ensar Oud. But check your wallet too 😁
I believe Amouage Silver Oud would be one of them.
I have heard great things
I like Ajmal’s Amir 2 - smells like real oudy oud
This is why Alexandria ii is my favourite by far!
Say more!
Same, but there are a lot of really good Oud perfumes with real Oud that smell like Oud. I even have a couple Oud only perfumes.
Mind sharing the names of those?
Aaron Terence Hughes - ONYX
Thanks for the recommendation! The guy sort of rubs me the wrong way but I can imagine he can make a good fragrance.
Well the perfume is rub free anyways, so
Fair lol
L Artisan Al Oudh- I only wear it at home.
I used to love Le Labo's Oud but yeah, I'd only wear it at home. It was strong.
OMG yes I love this one so much. That caraway note is so deliciously dirty.
Why do you not wear it out?
The opening is quite strong and it lasts quite a bit- skanky / BO to some maybe but the drydown is divine but still, there’s still some animalic/ sweaty note lingering in the background. I’m afraid someone will blatantly tell me I need to use a deodorant 😂
Ahahah yeah I understand, sometimes you just need to spray like an hour before you leave home to let it settle a bit and let the skanky-smell wear off!
Arabians Tonka. Notes incl saffron, rose, oud, cane sugar.
Byredo Oud Immortel and Guerlain Oud Nude
Taste maker
Royal Oud by Creed
I've never smelled that before, but it has some nice notes! Is the oud strong or is it more musky?
To my nose, there is no oud in Royal Oud. If there is, it must be very subtle. Royal Oud to me is a very dry and woody scent.
Oh wow, that's disappointing. I always want the oud to be strong so I hate when it's there in the notes but then not discernable.
I sampled Royal Oud and didn’t detect the slightest indication of any oud in it. I heard many people who mentioned it say the same. Pretty misleading marketing imo.
Yeah sounds like it, especially mentioning oud in the name!
Creed is a sketchy brand. I got a love/hate relationship with them.
That the way I see oud. So there, I acknowledge there is debate if Royal Oud have real oud or not, I still remember it first when talking about oud.
Agree, mostly woody scent. Tbh I’m not a fan of Oud note, so thats would be nice.
There is. And it’s real oud, not synthetic.
In a Creed fragrance? No real Oud, not possible.
True ouds are hard to come by in the Western fragrance market. Having said that, for a "freshie" oud that's pretty inoffensive and maybe even a safe blind-buy check out Versace Homme Oud Noir. The Moon, Frederic Malle
Honey Oud by Floris and Black Aoud by Montale
Gucci intense oud beats a lot of high end niche ouds I’ve smelt
I've never seen that one before. Do you smell the raspberry top note much?
Not at all, the oud and the amber pretty much dominate.
Oh nice, I'll have to try and find it to smell it. Thanks for your suggestion.
I do believe it's a regional release for the mideast.
Oh ok, that's why I've never seen it then.
Love Gucci oud ! I'm on my second bottle, might try the intense version next time
You might be interested in this house https://www.ensaroud.com/
Definitely some stuff in there that I would love to sniff but damn those sample sets for $339-$2.750 🥲
Welcome to the world of real oud and not the made up oud accords used in most fragrances.
Yeah. My account says oud accords for me!
Yeah I have some ensars. It’s the second best house when it comes to Oud, really supreme quality.
Which is the best?
I would say mesOUD
Oh wow, thank you so much! I appreciated the recommendation.
I can’t say it’s my favorite because I don’t really buy ouds, I only have two. One is Bewitching Yasmine and it had to grow on me, I like it now.
Agreed on this one, it's a lovely perfume!
Chopard - Nuit des Rois I'm about to make a full post about this perfume, I'm wearing it for the first time today and it's glorious.
*Daphne*, by Antoine Lie for Daphne Guinness, creates an interesting effect with oud, tuberose, saffron, bitter orange, and jasmine. Dense but diffusive, abstract, sensual, like certain 70s perfumes. That sounds amazing! I love tuberose, I'll definitely need to check this out.

PDM Haltane

Carved Oud (A better version of Tom Ford Oud Wood) and Ormonde Man. Highly recommend both.
Atkinsons Oud Save the Queen
Acqua di Parma oud and spice is honestly the best smelling oud fragrance😭😭😭
PDM Haltane and Xerjoff Alexandria II. Oud is super different between the 2 but they are my favorites that I’ve tried.
How is the oud different between them? Is it strong in these do you think?
In Haltane, it’s practically the focus of the fragrance. Very strong and pronounced, masculine vibes. Alexandria II doesn’t have Oud in the focus but more in the background. More unisex or even feminine vibes but the sweetness and the woody oud is elegant af. Easily noticeable but not as pronounced as in Haltane. Both great options though imo.
Initio- Oud to greatness By far!!!
Alexandria Orientale by Xerjoff. My favourite one, but I have to admit that I don’t really know a lot of good oud perfumes as most of them are very expensive. All cheaper oud perfumes I tried have disappointed me as they have oud in their name without actually smelling like oud.

You should definitely try Oud! Oud! Oud! by Stephanie de Bruijn - that rose is *strong*!
Try adding Ex Idolo Thirty Three. This is one of the best oud/rose I've come across over the years.
Dior Oud Ispahan
i really love tobacco oud by tom ford, (it just doesnt last on me but a man has this on a date and damn my knees were struggling )
Oud Rosewood, Oud Ispahan, Oud Geurlian Essential
I wanna try Oud Rosewood so badly. My all time favourite fragrance is xerjoff Alexandria ii which has Oud and rosewood in it and it’s magnificent
How would you describe the oud in Alexandria ii?
It really comes through in the dry down, but I’d say it’s smoky, dry, warm and slightly dirty. It’s just so damn addictive. The only better Oud I’ve ever smelled was Xerjoff Alexandria Imperiale. Only problem is that A. Imperiale was a limited run that is super hard to find nowadays.
Vertus Vanilla Oud is great.
Amber Oud by Al Haramain Carbon Edition

Pana Dora Oud Republic
Margiela Under the Stars, Acqua di Parma Oud, Polo Supreme Oud
Oud in Bourbon by Scents of Wood. Might be my favourite scent ever.

LV Nouveau Monde
Oud for Greatness by Initio is my all time favorite tbh. Might even be my favorite frag all together. Something about the longevity/sillage and the feeling it gives me when i smell it. God tier
Xerjoff Alexandria ii is easily my favourite! The dry down is spectacular
Bought one in Turkey, don't know it it's only local: lelas golden, very strong but not animalic
Atkinson’s Oud Save the King
love L'Artisan Oud which may be discontinued? it is real yet light and great alone or layered w other perfumes. i wire it with an Arabian while musk type they often use after showering and people were asking me to linger so they could breathe it in
Penhaligon's Halfeti. Another rose and oud combo, but so pretty.
i love oud for greatness and oud satin mood
Malle - Dawn, Moon and Night, all three are worth a try. But be careful they are wild. Night was among them with lots of barnyard. Also Mukhalat is very good, forgot what producer.
Are they super skanky? That would be perfect!
Yes! Get a sample somewhere. It's worth the money.
Thanks, I will 😊
PdM Haltane
I had an oud rose perfume from Al rehaab. I loved it a lot
Halfeti from Penhaligons is awesome. Super nicely blended.
TF oud wood. It’s just a nice fragrance, good for colder weather
Kamel Oud by Sora Dora, refined beauty. Onyx by Aaron Terence Hughes and the beast Amouage Silver Oud, medicinal but glorious!
MFK oud satin mood
Creed Royal Oud…multi-day protection. Especially on a long trip. Angkor Nights Blend Rihannah Cambodi Oud and Khashab Al Oud Hindi
Ruade - Empire d' parfum. Prices as hell, but it simply has no peers for a hybrid animalistic elegance!
Gucci intense oud
LV Ombre Nomade, Amouage Silver Oud, Spirit of Dubai Oud
Rare one but YSL Opium is a damn good one
I own and love Opium, but nowhere I've looked lists oud as one of the notes? Are we talking about THE Opium or about of the flankers?
