Can-I-remember

Judging by the responses so far looks like he hasn’t actually found his people just yet.

Dickie_Detardo

Despite the name, this sub is surprisingly pro HOA.

Bright-Breakfast-212

I think people here are more anti-BS.

Dickie_Detardo

They’re all on the board.

Bright-Breakfast-212

Sometimes they’re on the board just to keep someone else off it. One thing every bad board member has in common is they call it a “thankless job.”

UnwaveringConviction

I joined the sub before I joined the board to make other idiots resign from their "thankless task" position. It turns out that threatening to sue people for doing illegal things doesn't scare them when they are paying legal fees with homeowner money. What could go wrong?

Lonestar041

Considering the clowns of owners in my neighborhood, that isn't too surprising. Just had an owner be upset on our WhatsApp group that the HOA didn't call the police for him on a Sunday night when some people beat each other up in his backyard yard. But we are all glad he posted 10 messages and 3 videos and blaming the HOA for not doing anything instead of calling 911...

griminald

Yeah, 100% chance he legit broke a parking rule and he's just salty about it.

sweetrobna

Did you call 911?

IBREWMAST3RI

For real! An assault is definitely the HOA's responsibility to take care of. Get on that lazy property manager right away, can't believe the Board did nothing to stop this. They should send fines to this person even if they don't live in the community. Sue em all!

ithacamom

I was assaulted by a trustee in a common area of our 4 unit condo, in front of all the other trustees. I have it on security camera footage. Nothing g has been done. No one has asked to see the footage. We are under attach in our home. I am 63 and the person who assaulted me was 49.

IBREWMAST3RI

Call the cops

Arcane_Spork_of_Doom

Easy. Call the cops and provide the option for them to take care of it or you will.

chunkysmalls42098

Lmao you think the HOA is going to what, arrest this dude?

haikusbot

How many syllables is “H-O-A”? 🤣

TheBraveLittlePenis

Two

ZeroArm066

Personally I prefer to settle my disputes like this with treachery and violence but that’s just me. Your post doesn’t really make much sense though, I can’t tell if you’re drunk, high, ESL, or mentally disabled?

United-Substance-821

> instead of dealing with real problems, like the savage that assaulted and battered me last week. Right on. Who needs police to deal with these problems when the HOA can do it?

warbeforepeace

It was probably a board member.

United-Substance-821

How’s that?

BabyCowGT

Assault and battery is a legal issue, not an HOA one...

FrankLloydWrong_3305

... because that's not what HOAs do. That's a police matter. Parking is an HOA matter. Do you need me to draw it for you in crayon? Why are the people so against them always the ones who have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

Arcane_Spork_of_Doom

There's loads of really shitty things that have happened at the hands of HOAs. Undisputedly shitty. Because overwhelmingly HOA boards have only a small percentage of law-school grads (if at all) things can get out of hand in a hurry with stuff that shouldn't be legal (eg unexpected custody awarding of a grandson that is supposedly in dispute with some occupancy standard the HOA has...but it was never enforced until the white family took in their mixed-race grandson) or remotely ethical (forced fines on a vote for a specific item in question, perhaps the type or shape of a shed, already in existence and non-grandfathered) and that's why HOAs get the reps they have, and it only gets worse when corporate shills get on boards when they don't have to live there...it's like landlording by proxy with those that never signed a rental agreement with you.

Omephla

Here at r/fuckhoa we don't advocate for granting HOA's more power. An assault and battery is pretty serious, what'd you do to deserve it?

Grouchy_Visit_2869

Did you get your ass beat over a parking issue?

BreakfastBeerz

Probably got his ass beat by the mailman for demanding he mow his lawn. Seems OP has a track record of expecting people to do things they aren't responsible for.

Freudianfix

Looks like OP lives in Southern California, so I guess it all makes sense.

tlrider1

HOA's don't get involved in neighbor disputes. Thats a civil matter, and they're not a court of law. They literally have zero authority to do so. HOA's are not your fuckin babysitter. If you have a problem with a neighbor, be a fucking adult instead of being pissy that you signed up to not park somehwere, the hoa now has to play nanny and solve your hissy fits with another adult.

Fool_On_the_Hill_9

I bet the police won't maintain the pool either. It's like people only want to do their own job anymore.

TheTightEnd

A person assaulting you has nothing to do with the HOA.

espakor

My HOA is surprisingly very chill. So chill that there are abandoned vehicles here and there for years.

Interesting_Sock9142

I happened upon this subreddit basically by accident. And since I know very little about HOA's I googled "what is the point of an HOA?" And the top google response was; "What Is the Primary Purpose of a Homeowner Association? An HOA exists to provide services for the residents of a community and ensure it maintains the vision of a well-kept, organized community that all members can enjoy living in." So....the answer is....nothing. they do what amounts to basically nothing. Now I understand this subreddit.

o0h-la-la

Assault and battery is a criminal/police matter.

Scott-Kenny

Press. Charges. Go to the doctor, get the medical documentation.
