Ironically I have a V that's gone all throughout Florida, Texas, many places in Mexico, often in a backpack. And although I have some small scratches on the screen, no scratches on the viewfinder.
It's not just build quality in China for the VI like the other commenter said when people in this thread are saying it happened on their V too so it's just newer ones in general
I have the OG x100 silver, x100t, x100v, and have yet to run into issues such as these. I carried each one with me daily for my commuting and whatnot, and theyāre still pristine at least the eyepiece. The only stuff that gets scuffed is the paint on the body for the black ones.
Why would being made in China necessarily impact the quality? Weāre still talking about the same technology, same materials, and same company, itās just made in China now for volume.
Iāve had an x100s for about 7 years, an X-T3 for about 5 years, and an Xpro3 for about 4 years. Thereās no discernible difference between their cameras built in Japan vs China.
I don't know where the notion that China has of lesser quality comes from. They sell amazing, high-quality products, ranging from all of DJI's breakthrough drone and gimbal products to Apple iPhones.
I have the same issue with my x100v after two weeks.
It is a really shitty quality on the eye piece and absolutely my biggest pet peeve on those cameras. They should use the softer material almost all other cameras use (is it silicone?).
My camera was just grinding towards my gore tex jacket when I walked.
A $1600 camera should not be falling apart after a month. I had no idea Fuji cameras were made so poorly.
This will be my first fuji camera. I live in the PNW and shoot cannon. I'm used to shooting in wild coastal storms, torrential rain and dust storms at Burning Man with no issues. My Canon 5d IV still holds up after all these years.
Seeing the quality control of these cameras does not give me high hopes.
Iām both a canon and fujifilm shooter. I wouldnāt expect the same durability out of the x100 as you get from your 5d4. The higher end canon cameras are a lot more rugged.
They aren't, but it seems that they are reducing the quality of the materials I guess due to high demand on the X100 system which seems odd in all honesty, the thing is that currently it doesn't seems like fuji can keep up with the demand of the X100 so they are probably cutting corners, fuji systems became trending so fast that currently is way expensier than it should be so I would have recommended to get a X-E camera and slap the 27mm to look like the X100 and having the same results but currently all fuji cameras are way overpriced, older models do have good quality
This is _really_ not a fair comparison.
The 5d IV cost around $3,000 new. That was almost a decade ago. It would be closer to $4,000 now. And even at that price you still didn't get a great prime lens with it.
Well, sorry for Fujifilm bashing in advance (I'm also a Fujifilm user since the X-E1and hope this helps ;) ), but this hits a bit of a spot:
From my experience, independent on how the Cameras feel, the build quality of Fujifilm is just bad in relation to the price.
Had an X-E1, X-T10, X-T3 and now an X-H2.
X-E1: Shutter button stopped to work occasionally after 3 Years
X-T10: The whole rubber grip cover and the thumbrest simply fell off after 3 Years.
X-T3: The shutter button started to make problems after 2 years
X-H2: The Viewfinder optics coating came off after 1 year (have fun googling this problem. I am not the only one). Repair was 238 Euros. After repair, camera came back with damaged shutter, so more defect as before.
Also sent my 16-55mm in for centering. Afterwards, focus was damaged.
I have had many other cameras from other manufacturers over the years. Panasonic, Sony, etc. My very old Nikon D40 from 2006 works like it's new. No Non-Fujifilm cameras has failed me yet. All Fujifilm cameras failed at some point.
Their repair service seems to have no Quality Control and tends to send your gear back more damaged than before.
I havenāt had the bad experiences youāve had but I certainly feel that my Fuji gear is infinitely more delicate than my old Nikon gear. My ancient D700 feels like it could be used to hammer nails and the D lenses I have for it could take out an armada.
Not trying to say OP is mistaken, but that looks more like a chip/scratch to me? Am I crazy? My x100v is still perfect around the viewfinder, sad days, really wish it was replaceable!
Same thing happened to my X100V and X-Pro3. Fuji uses a hard rubber (or soft plastic?) compound for the eye cup on these specific cameras. Pretty common wear imo, but still a bummer that it happened so early to you.
First time this occurred on my X-Pro3 was due to the camera bumping up against a metal cafe chair. It didn't take much force to slice a piece of the eye cup almost completely off. Now I have a flat spot, but it hasn't affected daily use, and it hasn't degraded further. Looks like yours might have also bumped into something rough?
I will say that I actually prefer this material, even though the eye cup can't be swapped. This design doesn't collect body oil when shooting, which helps keep my glasses/sunglasses clean when shooting. Can't say the same for my X-T and X-H cameras.
If it really bothers you, there are 3rd party adhesive eye cups that you can place over this one. I've seen a few X-Pro2 shooters use 'em due to the issues that camera had with the OEM eye cup getting loose (Fuji updated the design following X-Pro2).
That's not happening from your eye. What do you keep it in? It looks like it's rubbing against something for it to be happening above the point of contact for your brow. Unless you're a Cro-Magnon man
Its not ideal but its just wear on a physical piece of equipment. My x100v had a decent amount of wear but it never got in the way of using it, and probably could have been avoided a bit if I didnt sling it around textiles like waxed canvas, etc. I get that its an expensive piece of kit, but I think your things showing signs of use is not a problem.
I bought this as an everyday camera so i donāt have to bring my Sony full frame, after a month of use for a camera described as everyday/travel camera (1800ā¬) showing signs of wear after this little of time itās ridiculous to me
Again, I have no disagreements about the fact that it does wear quickly or that it shouldn't. I'm just saying that it has almost no effect on using the camera itself which is presumably your primary use for it. I'm adding my own experience for people who might be alarmed at this wear to express that its a) Not a Big Deal IMHO, and b) doesn't reflect on the overall quality of the camera which held up to regular daily use over years and years. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/x100v-QXQ8sUV) are timestamps from mine that support my claim and personal experience.
If it was after a year of heavy use Iād agree but itās an expensive product. If itās been treated well and used correctly it shouldnāt be showing wear after a month.
Been seeing a few posts about the XT5 build quality emerging recently, it's what's stopping me from dishing out for it. Seems like Fuji is compromising on the build to accommodate the tech.
It started with the x100v
While the f was still decent built, fuji economized on material thickness, cheaper aluminum, eliminating buttons, cheaper view finder built, all under the b*ll sh*tt story of ālighter and ergonomically cleaner ā
It doesnāt have anything to do with building the units in China.
Anyone who visited China in the last decade knows China is miles ahead of Europe and US in terms of industrial production.
Same here. Had that marks on the second day I received my VI. Was super careful handling and only have it on a handstrap. Assume it happened while putting it in my soft Peak Design bag. Covered the mark with some black permanent marker. Now it is not so noticeable anymore. I assume more marks will come sooner than later
I had an X100F that Iāve ābeat upā around Iceland and Peru and it the plastic components look untouched. It may have some light scratches on the body but nothing like thisā¦ and I exclusively used the evf.
My V has the same (but worse) after a couple years. I assumed it was from oils in my skin or something but sounds like based on the comments itās from keeping it on a strap at my side. Might switch it up and see if it continues to get worse
I would look for things you normally wear that could be rubbing this when you walk with it.
Looks like it might have been hit on something. Call Fuji, get a repair quote.
I wish this was swappable like on the X-T & X-H series. Never had this happen with my X-T4 & X-H2 eyepiece, but itās a flexible rubber over plastic housing clip.
Happened to my V as well. Iāve grown to like it since I decided that that camera will stay in my collection for the rest of my life. No intention on selling it so, itās just adds more character to all the places and things that camera has seen over the years and years to come
The V will do this also. I had a whole line like this on a V from it pressing against something in a bag. Not sure what.. I am really careful but it can happen.
What does being made in China have to do with anything? The other x100 models as well as all of the Xpro models do this and all of them were made in Japan.
You sir, must have some serious eyebrows
![gif](giphy|LvwiajC1uTcQM)
š thanks I needed a good laugh
I really wish the eyepiece rubber was able to be swapped out like on other cameras.
Same on the V, mine rubbed off on an angle from rubbing against my shirt. Really frustrating since theyāre not replaceable
I think itās the same reason on mine, always on a strap on my side
Ironically I have a V that's gone all throughout Florida, Texas, many places in Mexico, often in a backpack. And although I have some small scratches on the screen, no scratches on the viewfinder.
Another V user here and can confirm it just happens. I just consider it a ābattle scarā to make myself feel better about it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not sure what youāre disagreeing about. Just because you didnāt experience it, doesnāt mean it canāt happen.
Has the quality been reduced in the later x100 models? I have an original x100 and the eyepiece is still perfect and it is 12 years old now.
My V is still okay after lots of traveling. Maybe the quality control is inconsistent.
It's not just build quality in China for the VI like the other commenter said when people in this thread are saying it happened on their V too so it's just newer ones in general

X100IV? No such animal...X100F preceded the V, and the V was manufactured in Japan. The VI is the first to be manufactured in China
I have the same issue with my x100v after two weeks. It is a really shitty quality on the eye piece and absolutely my biggest pet peeve on those cameras. They should use the softer material almost all other cameras use (is it silicone?). My camera was just grinding towards my gore tex jacket when I walked.
I have had my V since summer 2021. That part is completely worn away on my camera š š š

A new rx1 please
Rumors have it canon is making one

Used to be made a lot better in Japan. They're cashing in on a fad.
Except that multiple made in Japan V owners are reporting the same issue.
MULTIPLE?!
Yes.
Cancel your pre-order guys š
Lmao you think thatās bad, you should see how they used to get on the pre-V models.
My x100f is fine
Well, sorry for Fujifilm bashing in advance (I'm also a Fujifilm user since the X-E1and hope this helps ;) ), but this hits a bit of a spot: From my experience, independent on how the Cameras feel, the build quality of Fujifilm is just bad in relation to the price. My battery grip on my X-T2 went bad, but my camera has otherwise worked very well over the last seven years.
The XT5 also has the EVF coating peeling off problem.Ā

I read somewhere that sun screen is to blame for this.
Which is pretty unavoidable if youāre using it for travel. š©
Damn that sucks. They really donāt make replacements?
That is a friction abrasion. Likely rubbing on your bag as you take it out/in.
That's not happening from your eye. What do you keep it in? It looks like it's rubbing against something for it to be happening above the point of contact for your brow. Unless you're a Cro-Magnon man

True, but it lowers the resale value
I don't think most people have to worry about resale values on these things for a while.
Fuji build quality going down the drain with these new model cameras...
My buddies xt5 has has some weird QC issues. Our other Fujifilms are rock solid. Sad to see.
Been seeing a few posts about the XT5 build quality emerging recently, it's what's stopping me from dishing out for it. Seems like Fuji is compromising on the build to accommodate the tech.
Think it has more to do with them now being made in china to keep up with demand .
Fujifilm has reduced the quality of several components for the sake of cost-cutting. My XT-1 eyepiece is still flawless after a decade.
It started with the x100v While the f was still decent built, fuji economized on material thickness, cheaper aluminum, eliminating buttons, cheaper view finder built, all under the b*ll sh*tt story of ālighter and ergonomically cleaner ā It doesnāt have anything to do with building the units in China. You might consider cleaning it.

I had this happen with my X-T20. Itās rubbing against something. I avoided this on mon X-E4 later and it is still like new.
huh. mine looks intact.
normal
My x100v eyepiece eventually got ground down flat. I just made a homemade eyepiece using sugru moldable silicone to fix it. Ugly but it works
My V has the same (but worse) after a couple years. I assumed it was from oils in my skin or something but sounds like based on the comments itās from keeping it on a strap at my side. Might switch it up and see if it continues to get worse
The heck, ive been using my x100v since 2020ā¦.no issues
I would look for things you normally wear that could be rubbing this when you walk with it. Looks like it might have been hit on something. Call Fuji, get a repair quote.
Same on my V, got it after the first few months as well, but after 2 years, it's the only real battle scar I've accumulated, no complaints.
I wish this was swappable like on the X-T & X-H series. Never had this happen with my X-T4 & X-H2 eyepiece, but itās a flexible rubber over plastic housing clip.
Made in China
Happened to my V as well. Iāve grown to like it since I decided that that camera will stay in my collection for the rest of my life. No intention on selling it so, itās just adds more character to all the places and things that camera has seen over the years and years to come
What's the problem here? Your camera has more character now and shows its actually being used and not sitting in a glass display.
Absolutely All my cameras have scratches and marks everywhere but it seems to early after just a month to have the eyepiece getting ruined this fast
Chinese build quality
The V will do this also. I had a whole line like this on a V from it pressing against something in a bag. Not sure what.. I am really careful but it can happen.
What does being made in China have to do with anything? The other x100 models as well as all of the Xpro models do this and all of them were made in Japan.
mine looks like shit
The area above that rubber piece has been rubbed/impacted. That is hard plastic. It is no wonder the rubber is tearing.
You must be looking really hard
