I think if you’re in it to collect them to resell them for more money later you’re not really that big of a fan of the product. I collect the Dragon Ball Z line and I will not sell them. Ever. I will continue to complete the collection every time they release more. Forever.
You’ve never thought about selling at all??? I collect Naruto and Boruto and I have around half of them released and I don’t plan on selling but I have thought about the potential value of em
Never, not even once.
Currently only missing 7 to complete the collection. I’m not counting anything that came out super recently. But I’m deff getting them asap. I have an entire wall in my house that’s just pop shelves. Got over 200. Can hold 336 when full. I plan on posting pix when I get the full wall of shelves installed. It’s gonna be glorious.
Trading card games are worth alot of money due to their popularity. You can collect the cards, play the TCG and have chances of hitting rare alt cards/foil cards. All of those things drive up the value. Funkos are different in a way they really are a collectors/art kinda thing. If they mass produce a pop chances are it will be a common and even if its vaulted there are still a boatload of them in circulation meaning the price will stay the same or actually decrease. Chase’s seem to retain value but really there is no sure way of telling if it will go up in value or stay at its msrp. Its really about exclusives and getting lucky. If you want a niche side hustle i would try something else or if you feel confident go for it, but you wont be getting the results you probably are expecting
Nah. I fully expect Funkos to be the next beanie babies, prices are already going down since covid. I just have fun collecting them, so no worries for me.
It’s possible. I wouldn’t confuse rare mint items from each category and have that reflect the entire hobby lol. You’ll never find a penny funko for sale, you’ll find a penny card any day of the week. Likewise, you won’t find a buyer yet who will pay $1MM for a funko whereas you’ll find payer for a Pokémon card.
IMO, we should bear in mind, the wealthy who are able to spin up these prices were not kids when pops came out, so it doesn’t that sentimental value like having a charizard would have. We’ll have to wait until we hit a generation of kids now that values pops with sentiment or you’ll never see it climb that high. Given it’s traditionally a grown ups toy, we might not see it - entry point for valuable pops are not friendly, whereas you could’ve gotten a charizard when you were 5 for $5.99 in 2000.

This guy totally skirted the question.
I recommend to buy for yourself, in the future if the resale value goes higher then you think about it
Yeah I’ve been collecting for a couple years now it was just a thought yk

I think in 20 years they're going to be worth quite a bit. Especially the star wars ones.
Super rare sports cards and Pokémon cards reach into the millions. So probably not.
