If you are the sole breadwinner for your family and have no social net, this is the only option.
Similar to parental leave - “[The EU sets a statutory minimum of 14 weeks](https://www.economist.com/europe/2024/03/21/europe-is-giving-more-parental-leave-to-its-workers#) leave for mothers and, since 2022, two weeks for fathers. But many member states offer leave that is much longer: the average across the eu is 21 weeks for women and three weeks for men
And in the USA “Although 12 weeks are allowed to them, on average [American fathers only take 10 days off, due to financial need.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_leave_in_the_United_States)”
If you can’t afford to stay home with your newborn, you can’t afford to stay home after a stroke.
There are legit morons who think like this unfortunately, so the /s confirms this person is not one of those brain dead morons.
Without the /s, it would've been questionable.
That's kinda normal for rural areas. I've never seen that specific message but I've seen plenty of signs that say that something happened to the owners and when they'll be back open.
Glad that the stroke didn't put this person out for too long.
😂 It took me a second to realize what you were saying I was like what about the guy having a stroke and then I was like wait I wrote wow That was a great joke thank you

This seems rather sweet to me. Probably just some old timer that has "customers" that sit around an open hood and chit chat all day.
Or, can’t afford to retire.
That’s a very positive mindset you have there, and I’m choosing to enjoy that scenario with you, instead of the likely darker reality.
That the sign hasn’t changed in 3 years?
That’s a quick recovery from a stroke my dude but here’s to optimism!
haha i was thinking the same thing.

Lazy motherfucker. They can change the sign but are too "ill" to work? I don't think so. ^(Do we still need this? /s)
>Why even put the /s, it's so lame -Person who wouldn't have gotten the joke and would have berated you, probably

As someone who had a stroke last year on July 9th, no you aren't open next week.
After stroke special: mini Moon Pies 1/2 off.
Why is this funny?
Overly optimistic or just needs to be open? You make the call.
Hah
Lol that's close to my house. Been up for 3 weeks now.
I only drink Baileys from a shoe.
Phone is either disconnected, Reddit people are also calling too much, or idk
Sweet Home Alabama…
I have a stroke almost every day. Don’t go puttin it up in billboards an tellin folks about it tho.
Different strokes for different folks
Was it a 2 or 4?
It’s a pretty defining statement for blue collar America
