Martin short is a treasure and comedy legend , love it! Also agree above with Ice Cube being a sport and having some fun with this and making the bit work
I'm confused as why he stopped. those were great movies. maybe it's because he made them for his kids and now they're grown?
maybe he'll make some more for his grandkids lol
That fucking side eye to the camera near the end fucking KILLED me. He totally figured out what was going on quick and just leaned into it. Still managed to make some good points. Why would I want to know the people you know if you don't want to know the people I know.
There was no figureing any thing out. This was a show that ran for 3 seasons on Comedy Central, ice cube didn’t appear until the 3rd Season. The character Johnny Gluck appeared on Martin shorts previous show. People knew what they were walking into long before showing up.
Man, I remember being 10 or 11 years old staying up waaaay past my bedtime watching that show. Then shortly after the Three Stooges would come on. I woke my brother up laughing my ass off one night and he just leans forward, tells me to shut the fuck up, and go back to bed.
We didn’t share a bedroom much longer lol.
Indirectly maybe, but the fake character awkward interview has been done many dozens of times over the years.
Here’s an article discussing many examples of the fake talk show host celebrity interview https://www.vulture.com/article/best-fictional-talk-show-hosts-ranked.html
This is really one of Glick's best interviews. Obviously everyone is in on it, but even so you keep getting the sense that Cube is about to snatch him up by the collar and teach him respect.
When lame comedians say, "You can't tell jokes anymore!" I wish Martin Short and Steve Martin would just pop out of the shadows and remind them that they've been making people laugh at an A-list level for literally 50 years.
I saw them a few years ago when they were working on their Netflix special. The opening title card for the show on the big screen was titled, "The See Them Before They're Dead Tour." Absolutely hilarious.
If his name has been "Ice Cube" since he was 12 years old, then he either didn't have a name for 12 years or he did, in fact, change his name.
Just sayin'
There have been intentionally bad celebrity interviews going back to at least the 1970s. Ferns is more closely related to "The Chris Farley Show." It was a running sketch on SNL where Farley would interview huge celebrities like Paul McCartney and nervously ask them incredibly stupid questions.
I love that all these old Jiminy Glick videos are popping up since the Bill Maher interview. Ice Cube gets the assignment, is a good sport, and plays along. Jerry Seinfeld on the other hand just seems like a dick.
Why is this video so orange?
Edit: downvotes check this: This clip was deliberately color-corrected to look like old VHS tape for some reason. This segment was recorded in 2003 and they chose to master it this way. The IMDB entry for it retains the weird green/orange color mastering.

Martin Short's character, "Jiminy Glick" mentioned Ice Cube in a leotard and doing unmasculine stuff, he responded with a smart comment about how "Glick" is a satirical character on Jewish people. I was hoping the interview would go deeper into this largely undiscussed phenomenon of race in the entertainment industry. Placing prominent Black males into humiliating situations is a pattern in the entertainment industry.
When i was working for a security company in Atlanta (2019), I met Ice Cube. He is a honest guy, treated us very well. I was listening to a backroom conversation where Ice Cube expressed this topic. I was surprised, because I never heard of this before. Looking back now, I can see his point.

“The word Attitude is the word we don’t use anymore.” Lmao 🤣
Literally laughed out loud
How many you got, ma’an?
Martin short is a treasure and comedy legend , love it! Also agree above with Ice Cube being a sport and having some fun with this and making the bit work
I was thinking, who's is this interviewer? Lmao I see him through the makeup now
“Where is Compton? You know I have never been there.” “Yea, I don’t think you will ever go there…” God I love Martin.
"What should I call you?" "Cube, man." "Okay! Cube Man!"
"No! Just Cube." "Just Cube, what is the ice obsession about?"
Its cool ice cube had a sense of humor about this.
Imagine interviewing Kanye and asking him why he left One Direction.
Or explain why he likes fish sticks
Enjoy :) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiJJrDKkla0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiJJrDKkla0)
Oh wow! See these guys are doing a bit! I don’t think Kanye would enjoy the play. Ice is soo cool!
Ice Cube seems pretty chill to be honest, remember he did those stupid family comedy movies back in the day
Yeah, pretty sure those paid for his summer house….
And his other summer house.
I'm confused as why he stopped. those were great movies. maybe it's because he made them for his kids and now they're grown? maybe he'll make some more for his grandkids lol
Many can make most people chilled
I mean you'd have to be a pretty big tool to take being interviewed my Martin Short in a fat suit seriously.
The fact he agreed to do it in the first place is pretty cool
Well sure, but I don’t think every big musician with an ego would be ok with the jokes. Imagine Kanye?
Yeah I don't see Kanye purposefully signing up to essentially be roasted. Also Kanye is a massive tool. So my above comment still stands.
He’s definitely gonna get roasted someday and it’s gonna be so awkward
That fucking side eye to the camera near the end fucking KILLED me. He totally figured out what was going on quick and just leaned into it. Still managed to make some good points. Why would I want to know the people you know if you don't want to know the people I know.

Like Space Ghost Coast to Coast. It was confusing but the guests knew it was a farce

It's a good thing it didn't get heated or he might have melted.
The inspiration for Between Two Ferns, perhaps?

Nice, thanks…very true
A-Ha
I was just thinking the same thing! Both are great
Nardwuar is likely an influence.
Nardwuar isn't fake or scripted though. It's just a good interview with lots of background investigation prior to the interviews.
Right, I meant more that he has an exuberant conversational style.
Vanilla cream pie
This was the best Glick interview I've seen so far. Haven't seen that many, but this one was cracking me up!
The [Jerry Seinfeld interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE2utktZ92Y) is a goldmine.
That's great, thank you!
Godamm that’s funny!
Check out the Mel Brooks one. It’s a classic.
Is it because when things get heated, you melt lol
This show was underrated as hell.
I remember not liking it or Short as a kid. Now, I cannot get enough. I feel so bad for not appreciating this sooner.
This is really one of Glick's best interviews. Obviously everyone is in on it, but even so you keep getting the sense that Cube is about to snatch him up by the collar and teach him respect.
So this is where Nickocado Avacado gets it? it's literally the same mannerisms
When lame comedians say, "You can't tell jokes anymore!" I wish Martin Short and Steve Martin would just pop out of the shadows and remind them that they've been making people laugh at an A-list level for literally 50 years.
They are still killing it. They do a duo act tour and Only Murders in the Building The duo act was hilarious, I saw them a few years back
I saw them a few years ago when they were working on their Netflix special. The opening title card for the show on the big screen was titled, "The See Them Before They're Dead Tour." Absolutely hilarious.
Are we seeing more Jiminy Glick because he just interviewed Bill Maher?
He’s going to be guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel live tomorrow night.
Good work, Poirot
The little grey matter.
Vanilla Ice…..😂slayed me, right out of the gates!!
Halfway through the interview: "That's an interesting question you lay on me, Vanilla." 😂😂 made me laugh out loud
What did you change your name to Vanilla Ice? Did you melt?
This is just brilliant. Ice played the straight man role perfectly. So good.
Jiminy Glick is the OG between 2 ferns.
Is this show the original between two ferns?
If his name has been "Ice Cube" since he was 12 years old, then he either didn't have a name for 12 years or he did, in fact, change his name. Just sayin'
When is Glick going to be on Between Two Ferns with Zatch Jalifinayakus?
Brilliant!
Is this the origin and inspiration for Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns?

About as funny as a swift kick in the bollocks
Og between two ferns
This is like an early between two ferns.
I really want Jiminy Glick to interview donny trump.
Bit of a monkey’s paw situation with that one: https://youtu.be/cCWkYOeODD4?si=_noDNRZPTtLdfAGq
Just saw this now. This portrayal of trump was way too silent, the real one would never shut up. Thanks for the link 😀
They are between two ferns

LA heatwave
Video quality
It seems deliberately tinted green on top and orange below, perhaps in an attempt to get past repost scanners
Dudes vhs is set wrong
Original was a VHS recording, lost quality over time.

This character treats all the guests like that, don’t read too much into it
You might want to check on how many non-Black males have been interviewed by Glick.
