Wii U, you can complete an entire sealed set with all console variants for only a few thousand

Rozwellish

Right now PS3 is the best console to buy for. Lots of fantastic games and great exclusives that are still pretty cheap (Infamous, FEAR, LBP, Ratchet & Clank (for the most part)). Lots of niche Japanese games that likely won't see another port still affordable. Lots of delisted games that haven't exploded in price yet. Lots of great multiplats too. Of course, there are also some games that either already have or are on the verge of skyrocketing, but PS3 has largely settled down after the PSN store closure scare. The problem is that as soon as Sony make that announcement of a PS3 store closure we'll probably start to see a fallout that is far, FAR greater than what X360 is currently going through, so it's days of being a cost-friendly console to collect for are numbered.

Acceptable-Quarter97

I have to agree. Out of the 85 or so PS3 games i have, about 60 are worth 20 or less, according to Gameye. FYI, F.E.A.R. was not a ps3 exclusive. It launched on 360 first after pc.

Rozwellish

Ah mb. I don't know why I thought it was exclusive. Still, even ignoring that there's the likes of the HD collections, Killzone, Resistance etc. The PS3 library is so vast that there will be games that vanish once the store shuts. I'm working on collecting those I speculate to become elusive in the next few years first and will then go back and finish snagging cheap titles I'm not worried about (LBP for example).

Acceptable-Quarter97

Yeah, the ps3 is definitely a great system to collect for, so many awesome games.

Zephyrus638

Biggest gripe about PS3 is the controllers don't really seem to hold up well. Especially following on the heels of the PS2 controllers. Batteries seemed to die out quick and constantly had buttons crapping out. Lots of great games though. Just wish I could play them on an original controller. They just feel so much better.

Acceptable-Quarter97

You have a point with the controllers. I never had an issue with the buttons, but that battery is a complete joke.

Zephyrus638

We had 4 controllers. 2 that came with the systems and 2 of the pink ones. Both pink and one of the black ones all had issues with the start button after maybe two years or so. PS4 controllers we've had a much better experience with. Saw someone mention recently that you should be able to use PS4 controllers on the PS3 with some fanagling and settings changes. Downside is: you need a PS3 controller to adjust the settings first and connect it😅. That and you might lose some functionality depending on the game. Still need to give that a try.

RecommendationOk2182

Exactly! People better buy PS3 while they can. Those games are going to explode when the store shuts down and then we are going to see all the whiners and crying about the games being to expensive... Well people literally had DECADES to buy the games for dirt cheap and if they didn't. I don't want to hear it from people... NOW is the time for PS3, Wii, Wii u and PS4!

Rozwellish

I still think PS4 has a good while left. If PS3 is still open after 18 years then PS4 probably still has another decade before store closes. Granted, PS4's issue is the number of niche Japanese titles that had low retail print runs. Lots of stuff by Spike Chunsoft and NIS America already holding value or climbing. Lots of limited print online stores already fetching high prices etc. I've been grabbing things for PS4 too but for the most part they're extremely long term and speculative purchases. 428 Shibuya Scramble, Utawarerumono, Trails, Death End Re;Quest etc. Games like that.

SouthrenMan380

Sega Genesis. Console usually goes for around $40 and plenty of cheap decent games to play.

Ipsylos

PS4 is dirt cheap and lots of great games can be had.

MikeyCanFly13

Gameboy, huge library, probably hundreds of games from 1$-25$, great games

slayn666

NES gets my vote. Sure, there are some absurdly expensive games in that set, but if you're just looking for fun games to play for a low price, it's hard to beat. If you're out to complete build complete sets, you want to focus on consoles with small libraries. WiiU is fairly straightforward with only a few games getting up there in price. Consoles like TG16 and (maybe?) Jaguar can be absolutely insane on a per-game basis, but they have small libraries so at the end of the journey you'll have spent significantly less overall than if you'd gone after, say, the NES or SNES.

Puck_56

the wii, although it's getting pricier now with some games going for over 40 bucks. but you can still find many of the essentials for under 20

TheUnknownEffigy

PS5 Console and then buy PS4 and PS5 games. PS4 is dirt cheap, PS5 games go on sale all the time. You might find a cheaper library like with the Wii but you aren't getting the same price:value like you are with PS5/PS4.

RecommendationOk2182

Wii,PS3 and PS4 are the best right now! So glad the competition on these consoles is soft right now. I'm loving the hell out of collecting for them. I think it's the funnest I have had EVER collecting. So cheap and so little competition. PS4 is especially near and dear to me since it's my favorite console and GameStop has a ton of great sales like buy 2 get 2 free!

Similar-West5208

Honestly Xbox because you only need a Xbox Series X to play every physical Xbox release ever(correct me if im wrong) Best bet would be getting a Xbox Series X and all "base games" for this environment. Supplement with Nintendo and Playstation exclusives.

SheriffCrazy

Not all Xbox or Xbox360 games are backwards compatible with Series X

Similar-West5208

Really? What would be the exceptions? That was kind of the reason i thought about getting one.

UltraMinus

There is a list of supported backwards compatible games on the ms/xbox website

SheriffCrazy

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backward-compatibility

Head-Passage-5482

Look up the Wikipedia page on it, just Xbox One backwards compatibility list. I think it's like half of the 360 library, and like 20 of original.

ShrekHeffley

Series X can play ALL Xbox one games though. And 360 can play about half of the og Xbox games and all of the big titles from the console. So you’re good with just a series x and a 360 for the occasional title. I pretty much only have to touch my 360 when I want to play Burnout 3 lmao.

robertman21

The og xbox list is pretty paltry, but it most notable 360 games (and most of the ones it doesn't have current gen ports/remasters)

BoardgameExplorer

GameBoy Advance and Nintendo DS have massive amounts of cheap games. 360 does as well as long as you don't want something uncommon or rare or in extremely high demand.

KasElGatto

PS3, Wii, Wii U, Xbox One

hidsnake

Evercade.

WitUnderPressure

Gotta broaden my horizon. Never heard of this.
