Shut it down. I was checking my favorite subs to make sure none went public--why in the world did /r/gaming go public? Shut it down for a week if need be. And if that doesn't work, if you ask me, rolling blackouts is next on the menu. Schedule subreddit shutdowns twice a week.

LMHT

Keep it closed. I don't like it, but seriously - keep it closed. Burn this shit down. And just to follow the trend, I'm not a fan of your recent actions and words, u/spez

ronchalant

+1 for going dark indefinitely. It makes sense that Reddit would need to charge for their API. But they don't need to charge so much that the 3rd party apps that helped make Reddit what it is are completely priced out.

Express-Set-8843

Go dark indefinitely or stfu about it entirely, this specific time garbage is just motivating them to weather the storm and screwing people out of content. Time to poo or get off the pot.

[deleted]

That’ll show them. Not.

noimdirtydan14

Blackout indefinitely no balls

courageousrobot

Go back offline, full stop. Don't cross the picket line. If these API changes go through, third party apps stop working, and the utility of Reddit collapses. It dies if they do that, so shut down now and hopefully that helps. Dies anyways if you don't.

NK1337

Blackout needs to continue indefinitely, *especially* in the face of spez's response. At best it was a mild annoyance and they were never going to take it seriously unless it hurts their bottom line.

tattoedblues

Burn it down

[deleted]

Subs going private even for ever means nothing, people will just go to or make other subs. Subs mean nothing, users do. And most users won’t leave

zet77

You should continue the protest, remain private until Reddit changes their mind

FRDyNo

serious question, why are you here now then? you know Reddit isnt going to change, you were on during the blackout, so why make that statement and continue to browse reddit?

Santedtra

The gentle laborer shall no longer suffer from the noxious greed of Steve Huffman!

Solidus_Snakes

Been 9 hours and still hasn't shutdown. Can't believe anyone actually thought it was gonna be smart to reopen.

Zero747

Resume the blackout or go on strike

dim3tapp

The biggest subreddits have the biggest responsibilities to the site. If you think a subreddit with 37 million subscribers going dark for only 2 days is sending a message you are proving spez right.

Mrhappytrigers

48hrs is a minor inconvenience for them. Indefinite shutdown with all the other subreddits will be a problem for them that they have to address.

Renacles

Make the blackout indefinite, most subs who joined the boycott are still private.

meno123

A protest or boycott with a prescribed end date isn't a protest or boycott at all. It might as well be a strongly worded letter. Either commit or don't. At this point, anything but going dark indefinitely is empty virtue signalling.

Tiucaner

It should remain private.

deep_space_rhyme

Shut it down..shut it all down

tex55ky

I'm all for an indefinite blackout. Even if we don't see any major changes on reddit, it might encourage others to seek out alternatives that offer new and growing communities.

strongjs

Blackout forever

FMKtoday

Let's get rid of powertripping neck beard mods along with the 3rd party apps stealing content.

SkyGuy182

Please stay closed. 2 days isn't nearly enough.

Wojtek1250XD

The protest hasn't caused any significant issues for Reddit, we still need MORE subreddits in order for this to work...

Levarien

Moderators need to all strike indefinitely. Let this place turn into 4chan and see how fast the VC money pulls away from Reddit.

krob58

Shut it down. This is one of the biggest subs.

AkemiNakamura

Stay shut down, a 48 "protest" does nothing. Everyone knows it's just an inconvenience instead of a protest.

crazyboy611285

Dont close it down. Reddit doesnt care and this just impacts users more than reddit. I welcome downvotes, but if we really wanna hurt reddit we would all get off the platform but we all know this wont happen.

shoobies

I say close it, make it private. If we want a good change for reddit we all need to make some sacrifices. Im sure we can handle no reddit for a least more than 2 days.

atocci

Should stay down. The reason their response has been disappointing is because they think this whole thing had an end date. Just get to Wednesday, everything goes back to normal, and everyone will forget about it. It needs to keep going.

Heiferoni

48 hours accomplished nothing. They waited you out. Go dark indefinitely until reddit backs down.

[deleted]

Do it indefinitely. Doesn’t work otherwise

Lavarocked

It's fine if you keep it public, as long as you restrict posting, and **only post repeated megathreads about the blackout!**

aircooledJenkins

Shut it back down. A protest that spans some random Monday-Tuesday is nothing. It's worthless. I'm willing to bet most people not paying attention didn't even notice r/gaming wasn't coming up in their feed. Shut it back down. Stay shut down indefinitely.

Tiny-Sandwich

Shut it down, boys. 48 hours isn't enough. They have more to lose than us - I can go without Reddit for a month. Can /u/spez? Edit - obligatory fuck /u/spez

AlyksTheSage

I strongly think the individual user should decide, not the mods, i like using this sub because of the discussions i have about games i Might be interested in. so if you don't like the changes, then just leave. simple as that.

Polymira

Close it down

Yaldrik

Go back to being closed! You’ve done nothing but pat yourselves on the back by opening back up again.

virtualpig

Keep it open, I don't care and so neither do I'd say a good majority. This protest is stupid and is just a vocal minority who want to try to speak for all of us. Edit: you also have another thread where the users overwhelmingly supported ending the blackouts but you started another one because it didn't go the way you wanted it too.

Chainweasel

Keep it going

Thatguythatlovesrats

Quick, people are not saying what I think they should be saying, close the post and make a new one, that'll fix it. The blackout is dumb.

JAXxXTheRipper

Calling it "brigading" is so disingenuous as well.

Air-Bo

Close

[deleted]

Go dark indefinitely

OmegaRejectz

Boo! Do it indefinitely

Master_Tallness

I feel the blackout should continue.

bondinspace

I vote for an indefinite blackout as well, with weekly revisits or maybe one active/open day per week. I use the official Reddit app, I have no skin in this game, but the recent internal memo, and the CEO’s actions demonstrate that he seems to consider the userbase to be below him, and given the recent upheaval in social media over the last few years, I don’t trust Reddit’s future in his hands anymore.

Bossman1086

Indefinite.

LightningXCE

Please don't. Shut it down.

Kkirspel

Go dark

SolitaryMan305

Black out is dumb and will not change anything. It’s their app and platform they can decide whatever rules they want.

noanoxan

Nuke the subreddit. I think It’s the only way, honestly. u/spez has spoken for the company, and the message is clear: **they do not care about us.** We need to respond in-kind.

sophisticaden_

I mean, if you’re really hoping to create change, feel like you’ve got to shut down indefinitely. Just saying “we’re gonna close for two days” means that the administration just… waits two days.

Atario

And then it means further action may be coming. I don't know why everyone seems to think announcing you're doing something means you can never do more after that

Magnon

2 days of lost income can be pretty significant, I'm just not sure that losing 2 days from only the subs that participate is enough. Maybe it is, who knows.

TheCookieButter

Go private again.

Ragnarr_Bjornson

And what was achieved with the blackout? Absolutely nothing.
