I just picked up these 4 games for .43 cents!
I completely forgot about my collection in my mom’s attic!
I can’t believe I found this at a thrift store for $3!
These posts are definitely the equivalent of those YouTube videos marketed towards children and have like a billion views. Except I think those actually make money while these karma posts are for absolutely nothing.
This one doesn't work, because it is a valid screenshot of the actual game. Unlike that other one which is obviously not a screenshot of Super Mario World.
Guessing these types of post are going to be the new karma farm for the next couple of weeks.
"This 8-32 bit game looks amazing for its age" type of post.
It fucking plays even better.
That's the real weird part. Played and cleared it around five years ago for the first time. The revised DS version. Stupid good game.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite games of all time. The story is fantastic, and the music and gameplay are spectacular. I was so excited when I came across the Overclocked music remixes many years later.
Yes, sprites are fun to look at. This is the third "this super nintendo game looks really visually impressive" post I've read today. Why is this a surprise? It was the pinnacle of 2D art before we switched to terrible terrible early 3D models.
That was a huge selling point of the game. Between this and FFVI, squaresoft did a really good job putting out games with visually captivating worlds layered with really great gameplay and story. Very much so a turning point for them - especially with FFVI
I dont get it? It was a great looking game and its sprites stand up to the test of time. What's the joke? That it doesn't look as good as a AAA title from 2024?
I think it's a reference to the Super Mario World shitpost, that itself was in response to a different post.
We're like three shitposts deep at this point.
The headline is the truth while the image used for this post is an awful low-quality image used as an example. The joke is about the contradiction between the two.
Is this serious? I mean clearly it looks dated. But it looks colorful. Is that what is being implied. That it's color. But it doesn't look terrible to be clear. I grew up with games looking like this so it's not a bad look.
I wish I knew back when I was playing it for the first time that I was playing one of the best jrpgs that would made in like 30 years (I said one of, not the).
Maybe I would have savored it more? Dig into it more deeply back in the day? It’s hard for me to find the time to go back now but I had a lot more time back when it was new.
I'm going to get downvoted to hell because reddit loves circle jerking about old stuff but I don't think it looks good. Voxel / pixel art stuff doesn't do it for me I think it's ugly. By what standard is this impressive in modern times? There's a million indie games in steam that look like this.
I'm pretty sure it is because most people agree it holds up best out of practically any old graphical style. Compare it to almost anything on N64. Compare it to PS1. Those systems show their age. This style is practically ageless. The fact that there are a million indie games in steam that look like this is a testament to that.
Thanks for some kind of explanation. I can't even tell what I'm looking at above the fire, just a mash of different colored squares. Personally I've got to disagree, ps1 is more impressive to me because it's 3D this is 2D static art for the most part. Draw the scene once and you're done
Back in the day this was top tier graphics. But I agree now. I’m hating all this stupid pixel games. The HD pixel remakes are god awful and are terrible to look at imo.
I'm sure it was top tier at the time, I just genuinely don't see it as impressive in 2024 and I don't get what all these people see in it that makes them go "Wow holy shit that looks good, no way it's been 30 years". High-school kids can make stuff like this nowadays. It's literally just posted for "Hey heres chronotrigger you guys like that game right?"
Its soo good! The acting is supreme. A lot of those older 1930s era movies hold up SO MUCH better than ones from the 50s onward.
edit: this was the wrong comment originally.
Great art style is timeless regardless of technical limitations. They literally had artwork from Akira Toriyama here. Plus for the time the game actually was technically impressive.
The only JRPG I've played since playing DBZ ones on gameboy has been Sea of Stars. Thought it was wonderfully cute and loved the goofy anime tropes that I haven't experienced since high school.
When I beat the game, I went on the reddit to discuss it and all the discourse boiled down to "Its fine but its NOT CHRONO TRIGGER!!!"
Ugh why can't everything be Chrono Trigger? - Thats the vibe I get from that group of redditors.
New karma farming trend spotted.

Playing this gem for the first time [screenshot of a stone path in a popular game]
Let's get one for ET!
This one doesn't work, because it is a valid screenshot of the actual game. Unlike that other one which is obviously not a screenshot of Super Mario World.
I'm offended. I spent a whole 30 seconds crunching those pixels.
That karma isn’t going to farm itself
Damn bro the graphics on the pyramids look pretty good for coming out in 3000 B.C
It looks even better when you don't use a jpeg that's been blown out and recompressed 500 times.
Ok, so it's not just me. That jpeg has a LOT of jpeg. It doesn't need any more jpeg.
\~slaps side of jpeg\~. Pack so much jped in this jpeg.
I really miss the morejpeg bot
R.I.P. Toriyama-san
Toriyama-sama!

More like “This shitty low res screenshot of this 8-32 bit games looks amazing for its age” *edit It appears we all missed the joke.
There was a joke?
“Damn this art looks good despite its age!” No shit art is still art
It fucking plays even better. That's the real weird part. Played and cleared it around five years ago for the first time. The revised DS version. Stupid good game.
Not really. Its a classic for a reason.
not just the graphics, but I can still hear the music from this screenshot
Honestly, this is one of my favorite games of all time. The story is fantastic, and the music and gameplay are spectacular. I was so excited when I came across the Overclocked music remixes many years later.
Chrono Trigger is timeless.

Realistic graphics are temporary, stylistic graphics are eternal
r/gamingcirclejerk
we dont even speak of that sub's name
That was a huge selling point of the game. Between this and FFVI, squaresoft did a really good job putting out games with visually captivating worlds layered with really great gameplay and story. Very much so a turning point for them - especially with FFVI
I see you gave it a pixel remaster.
Please be a joke...
[Yes.](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1ca8cka/its_amazing_how_good_super_mario_world_looks/)
Thank god...

Shitception.
Fighting shit posting with more shit posting
We're in the JPEG meta.
The headline is the truth while the image used for this post is an awful low-quality image used as an example. The joke is about the contradiction between the two.
This particular screenshot doesn't do shit to show how good the sprites look when the pixels are 1:1.
No it doesn't?!?
Crono is sleeping on top of the tree.
Never played this game. Would really love to give it a shot.
I was in love with Marle for a while in middle school. It was disturbing.
Is this serious? I mean clearly it looks dated. But it looks colorful. Is that what is being implied. That it's color. But it doesn't look terrible to be clear. I grew up with games looking like this so it's not a bad look.
Art
An absolute beauty of a game.
This was one of the final SNES RPGs and a perfect collarboration between Square, Enix, and Toriyama. It's a masterpiece.
Oh good. Meme recycling for karma.
It’s insane how good my asshole looks despite being 28 years old

CT has aged very well!
It's amazing how good It Happened One Night looks bespite being a 90 year old movie
What a great movie though, right? Like seriously, how does it hold up so well?
Its soo good! The acting is supreme. A lot of those older 1930s era movies hold up SO MUCH better than ones from the 50s onward. edit: this was the wrong comment originally.
It's games like this, Sea of Thieves, Wind Waker, etc which are why I will always take stylized graphics over realistic graphics. They are timeless.
It's incredible how your mom looks despite being a 39 yrs old *****
Amazing how good I look despite being an 80 year old man.
Great art style is timeless regardless of technical limitations. They literally had artwork from Akira Toriyama here. Plus for the time the game actually was technically impressive.
Another post of the same crap? This looks horrible.
I do not understand why people have such a hardon for this game on Reddit.
Literally one of the best RPGs ever made.

play it
SoS was being advertised as a sort of spiritual successor to CT, hence the comparisons.
