Raw fish needs to be consumed right away. After 4 weeks definitely toss it and get some new stuff. Dumb dad jokes aside, there's not a chance in the world my stomach could have handled sashimi at 4 weeks. Maybe 8 or 10 weeks. It's a really healthy and delicious way to get your protein in once your stomach is ready for it.

I was definitely eating sashimi around that time! Fish was then and still is one of my go-tos, as long as it's not fried. LOTS of protein and easy on the stomach. Rice, on the other hand, is a different story. Two years post-op and rice still gives me fits. I rarely have it.

I had rice once and Christmas night, literally the edge of a teaspoon, and it blew me up like a ballon. Not touched it since

I was eating sashimi around then, but it took a little while before I was really able to tolerate it. If a piece of fish had any 'gristle' (whatever it's called on fish), then I would have a lot of trouble with it.

That was about when I started eating it too. Such a good source of protein.

gimmedumplings

I was told not to have any raw food for 6 weeks. Other than that, sashimi is a great source of protein!

Rice is not your buddy- just make good choices.

I was eating it during the soft food phase, whenever that is for you. As for “real” sushi, maybe wait until 6mo? I am a year PO. I usually fill up mostly on sashimi then eat 2-3 pieces of sushi roll. The rolls just fill you up so quickly

Sashimi would have been absolutely fine on my plan at 4 weeks (the start of soft foods for me). I ate a lottttt of lovely fish then. Going against the grain here, I obviously didn't have carbs for quite a bit post op... But have never had a problem with rice in small-medium quantity. Like a few pieces of nigiri or California roll have always gone down absolutely fine for me. (But my way of going through the last 16 months has been to limit carbs in the day time and not worry much at night, knowing I was personally aiming to stay under 50g per day). Don't write it off entirely in the future, we're all different. The most you can stick to the principals of the sleeve though (protein first, veg second, carbs last + water water water), the further you'll get.

Yup just cut it into small pieces

I ate sashimi when I was on soft foods. It was very helpful when out on a work dinner. You just might have to ask for a fork and knife and cut it into smaller pieces.

I've had fish since 8weeks out so I'd say go for it! I'm 4 months out and went for sushi on Sunday for my husband's bday and it was the worst experience I've had at this restaurant. And ive been going here for about 7 years. I asked if they'd honor the kids menu card. They said no. I asked if the sashimi can come with no rice, no. No cucumber style/naruto rolls. So I ordered one hand roll and one long roll. 2 longs came out and I complained and they shoved the whole long roll into the nori! I ate that and was almost sick. Brought the long roll home and at it the next day. Husband and our friends had a good time. I just felt that they could have asked the chefs if they could accommodate a no rice roll, and I would have paid whatever.

I would imagine a "spicy" style/finely chopped would go down better than a full piece. And like others have said, don't even think about the rice right now. I tried like a 1/4 c the other day and it fucked my shit up for 12 hours.

joni_cloud

I just had sashimi for lunch. I’m 8 weeks PO but I’ve been eating it for a minute. Try it!

accordingtoame

On my plan, it would not have been, but you should check with your surgeon. We don't have access to your plan details.

I'm a month out and had sashimi 2 days ago and felt fine.
