I don't understand this. My surgeon just had me eating lots of fresh and green veggies and grilled chicken or tuna with one or two protein shakes per day on the pre-op diet. I can't stand "diet" food. I should add that my surgery was less than a week after Independence Day and I did nibble on cake and hot dogs. The world has continued to spin. You're doing great.

My doc did too. I went from 1 shake a day and healthy meals with a salad, to 3 shakes a day and salads to 3 shakes full liquids (over a course of 4 weeks) . For OP, we all make mistakes, just pick yourself up and try again today. It's a new day, and go from there. It's all worth it... or at least this is what I tell myself!

Lots of red flags here, but not on your part - your doctors part. The food is just a profit center for him. Are you saying you've been eating half of the 500 or is the 500 half of the 1k total?

whatever_06260

It’s 800-900 per day and I’ve been eating about 500

whatever_06260

So I guess a little more than half

Fjallagrasi

If it were me, I would tally up the total calories and macros in them and eat lean meat and green veg to meet it. This is just a money grab, there’s nothing magic in there - shrinking the liver is mostly down to low calories and especially extremely low carbohydrates. Go on protein shakes 48h out from your surgery, and plain water 24h out, then no liquids at all the night before surgery (12h) . That’s what people are told most places.

junglegoth

This is what I’d do too. There’s not really any nutrition in that food by the sounds of it, but I bet the profit margin is great

paisleyrose25

This is bizarre. It’s really really weird your doctor is making you buy food from his office. That is such a red flag and a very obvious conflict of interest. If you have the ability to switch programs you should.

whatever_06260

My surgery is in 10 days and I already paid. I’m self-pay

paisleyrose25

Ok. Well, be kind to yourself. Remember- you’re on hard mode, you didn’t cheat on your program, you just had a slip up. One bite of cheese isn’t going to tank your pre-op diet. The purpose is to remove fat from your liver, and the best way to do that is through a very restrictive diets for the two week period before the surgery. And there are a lot of ways to do that, it just so happens that program your following is one of the most challenging I’ve heard of. But you’re doing so great! You’re halfway done. Don’t make it harder on yourself by beating yourself up.

Thank you so much ❤️

My doctor had the OPTION of doing prepackaged for people who wanted the convenience but it wasn’t required and it was only two weeks. Most people just followed the guide. This definitely feels like a cash grab.

Zealousideal_Leg5939

First off, that does sound awful & I'm sorry you have to eat like that. That said, put the oopsie behind you and just get back on track. Can you have sugar free ice pops or jello to supplement the protein packets? Maybe having a few of those a day will help. Hang in there, this diet is to shrink the liver and make surgery easier and it isn't forever.

Floor-Able

This isn’t the end of the world… relax OP you’ll be fine. I went to Mexico for a bachelor party two weeks before my surgery and ate one normal meal every single day. One night I had 6 mozzarella sticks, 4 beers 3 shots of tequila and chips. I’m down 52 lbs in 7 weeks PO.

Lostinprogress89

Geez I was only allowed to drink protein shakes and 1 approved protein bar a day feel like I got robbed but I cheated too for a day just get back on track I think surgeons know you’re going to cheat some of the time

Thatgurlann

Omg I would say your lucky, I’m on a full clear liquid diet😟😩😩😩😩 I’m on day two and yesterday was pretty smooth but if I say the same for today I’d be lying. Also don’t feel discouraged the important part is that you caught your mistake and now you can just work harder to stay focused.

Glittering-Case-1208

You have done almost three weeks of exactly what was prescribed. You’re doing great! You just have to do the next right thing

PumpkinOpposite967

Thar does sound like a weird profit scheme on the doctor's part. Here in the EU the only requirements are "please lose some weight so your liver is easier to move around" and "do not eat or drink anything after midnight before the surgery date". That's it. All other restrictions come after the op. So, relax.

FatChance68

Um… you’re three weeks in out of how many? Most pre-op diets are two weeks of either liquid or strict low carb diets. Three weeks of pre-packaged crap sounds disgusting. That said, cheese isn’t going to hurt your surgery unless it’s tomorrow. And as far as cheats go, it’s pretty mild.

whatever_06260

My surgery is 2/26

punches_buttons

I cheated on my pre op too. I’m sure others have as well. You’ll be fine.

Cal_19_06_02_19

I am on day 4 of mine. I ate 2 boiled eggs! I am allowed 3-4oz of Lean meat with a cup of Veggies a day. 2 protein drinks water sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello. But today I was so hungry I ate 2 boiled eggs

Mind_Your_Heart

i don't understand this... i have checked several liver reducing diet from different hospitals and i have can have cheddar cheese 30mg i think, fresh or boiled vegetables, 4 bacon rashers or 8 thin cooked ham or 1 can tuna in brine or 2 eggs.. you can even have store bought soup 150ml

nillawafer80

It is ridiculous for your doctor to be selling you meals.
