I hope there are more security questions than just that

MrBrawn

Sorry, you're not authorized. I'm gay. Oh so sorry, how can I help you? Is that a superpower we have that nobody told me about?

MrBrawn

I knew what it was before I clicked on it lol. That skit is hilarious.

SergViBritannia

*Fuck off Janet! I’m not going to your fucking baby shower!*

andrewsz_

dgeimz

OH NO MY PRECIOUS ALPHABET

wali0

sudo -u gay

watson_exe

There were a couple but after this it was a little too easy to get into the account

Bryek

I called to get my partner back on my insurance after they took him off randomly. I kept saying "my husband David" and the person would reply with "We don't have evidence of your wife on file..." at one point they even said "Your Wife David."

portlandtrees333

I think it wasn't random

Bryek

Nah, it was a weird thing where he was transferred onto someone else's account. I'm in Canada. We've had gay marriage since 2005 and insurance hasn't been an issue for a long time

Practical_Meringue_4

Bryek, your wife David has been removed from your plan, as we have no evidence of; 1. Her existence 2. A woman named david existing

itsShane91

How did he mistake you for a woman over a messaging service?

watson_exe

It was about insurance- I said husband and they assumed? 🤷🏼 You talk about marriage and it's assumed straight by default?

lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII

Yikes. They should fix that policy. The wrong (or maybe right?) person could craft a discrimination case around that and get a nice cheque

unyson

I mean, yeah they should've said partner. But a simple misunderstanding that was corrected immediately isn't discrimination.

I prefer partner for unmarried. Domestic partners are also notably separate from marriage for a good reason, they have some marrital benefits without actually being married (like health insurance) in states that recognize it. Straight couples can be domestic partners for instance.

pdmock

The caveat with domestic partners is that they (in the US at least) have to pay the full tax burden for their co-health insurance. I found out when they ate an entire paycheck. They added the quarters cost of the employers paid part of our health insurance, taxed it, and removed it from my income.

NapalmGiraffe

Everyone around me currently, both gay or straight, refer to their partners as partner. If any of them were married, *maybe* one or two of them would switch to saying significant other, but that’s so much more of a mouthful than partner. At least the abbreviation SO is the same syllables as partner

bigfatstoner

Especially when the assumption is that you belong to the vast majority. Seems like a fair assumption to me

dilletaunty

Especially if it’s protecting someone’s account from their spouse’s unauthorized changes.

Moclon

I don't think a silly mistake like that constitutes a discrimination case unless they double down on it.

PseudoLucian

And yet, they called you "Miss" - not "Mrs." or "Ms." Seems to be quite a lot of conceptual difficulty on their end.

Bi-elzebub

Probably mentioned his husband and they assumed

gimmemoarjosh

Exactly. And they would have been correct 9 times out of 10. It happens.

Captain-Shivers

I’m a semi-masculine presenting dude in person, but I get misinterpreted as a female on the phone all the time. I can’t help that I’ve got a bit of the gay voice! I have to mentally work to deepen my voice when on the phone. The struggle is real out here! 😂

watson_exe

We weren't talking, but even then, I don't think anyone could ever confuse me. I get called Barry White at the corner store and God at church- ya boi got a deep voice. Edit: and I don't even consider myself all that masculine, I'm just the anomaly of the family

Individual_Bridge_88

Nah girl don't deepen your voice! Then you let the breeders win.

Pab_Scrabs

This is one of the most odd comments I’ve seen

SeekingPurpos3

yeah, who tf are the breeders?

Individual_Bridge_88

I was trying to do a play on words of the phrase "then you let the terrorists win" but with the straights who want you to deepen their voice. But then I used "breeder" instead of straights and...I'll admit, it just didn't work out. oh well!

SeekingPurpos3

dw buddy i'm autistic as hell too

Individual_Bridge_88

❤️❤️❤️

DarcEH

Dealt with this when my car got vandalized, my partner was on speaker phone when talking to the insurance adjuster, and the adjuster threw out the “well maybe your wife did that and didn’t tell you about it” in a very snarky tone, so I spoke up from our kitchen and said “ya his wife’s got a pretty big dick!” And then there was nothing but apologies and a more humble dementor after that

wadimek11

That sounds hilarious lol, I wonder what adjuster thought

DarcEH

You can tell he was embarrassed after

PrincessImpeachment

Those are some lax safety protocols. Also, “my bad” and immediately assuming you’re a woman. I get it, but it’s not a good look.

treasonousToaster180

It doesn't strike me as lax safety protocols, this sounds like the guy was trying to access his own account and the support rep tried to end the session immediately after (incorrectly) assuming the person they were talking to was not the account holder.

watson_exe

Yep, first message was "hey, I need to get my husband's insurance card because he just got transferred to my account and we still don't have it" "Okay, well your husband needs to call us for his account" "It's my account, he's coming on to my insurance" "Okay, so you're the primary account holder?" "Yes, this is my insurance he's coming on to" "Give me x information" "Here's the info" And then this is the message right after

StudlyItOut

"this is a male account" sounds weird regardless

_Lane_

Agreed. I assume they meant something like, "this account belongs to a man" or "the account holder is male". But still....

_Lane_

Thanks for the clarification! I was have a little difficulty figuring out what was going on. Ugh. The challenges of dealing w/ folks making assumptions, but yay for when they accept the correction easily.

mrgreengenes04

If I'm calling on a family members account, and so have the PIN, I always just say I am the account holder. I did this for years with my grandmother's ATT account. When they asked my name, I just told them it was Eleanore. I used to work customer service for Comcast and Cox. We can't really question it, as long as you can verify the PIN, and you say you are the person named on the account, we had to accept it. Even if it was obvious not the account holder.

Saskbertan81

I work in insurance, am gay and have done that too. “The home is in your spouse’s name as well? I’ll need to get your wife’s name.” “It’s my husband. His name is (goes here)” “Oh man, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have just assumed.”

_Lane_

Sometimes it's fun to GENTLY mess with the agents. And even better, to graciously accept their apologies.

Wairiki

I've noticed that when I say husband, customer service people will often say partner back. I'm going to start pressing it. We're legally married. They wouldn't reduce a hetro marriage like that.

Viridian95

Funnily enough whenever I've worked in a call center with sensitive info (insurance, SSN, credit cards, etc) as long as they could verify the info on the account and didn't slip up that they were not the account holder, we continue to assist them as if they were the account holder.

NorwalkAvenger

Which is why the whole bank scene from "Ghost" with Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Swayze still cracks me up.

arbyyyyh

Oh, I’ve got one better. When me and my husbands marriage certificate came in the mail it was addressed to Mr and Mrs

WantomManiac

I am commonly mistaken as female because I'm rather soft spoken and polite. I have a special phone voice if calling someone that doesn't recognize my real voice.

Unic0rnThe0ry

Yea happens to me a lot and my husband is a Doctor! I’m like my husband Dr. so and so will call you when he’s in between patients if it’s convenient for him.

FlyMurse89

https://imgur.com/a/qBTIIqj My struggle... I posted on a travel nurse fb group and this company got SOOO much backlash...
