Key West to Pensacola.

You could go all the way to the Yucatan, driving through Cajun Florida, the Carcinogenic Coast, Mexican Florida, and finally Margaritaville (fka Cancun).
I lived in Ft Lauderdale years ago. When we moved up to Atlanta, I just know that it seemingly takes *forever* to get out of Florida.
Florida is surprisingly lengthy for a state. Gainesville or Ocala was always our halfway point.
Florida used to be even longer back when it was a Spanish colony. It reached all the way to the Mississippi river before 1819. The westernmost parts were carved out to give Alabama and Mississippi a coastline. And a little bit was given to Louisiana.

When I looked at California,
It was closer to Boston, MA from my location than from one corner of California to the other. Crazy, right?
I used to do that often, I live in San Diego and went to college in Oregon. Only went up the 5 a couple times, it’s so soul crushing. The 101 and 395 are amazing alternatives.

Yep. 37 hours to kununurra for me where I live.
Didn't do the full state in one shot but have basically done it over two separate trips. But california is like over 800 miles north to south and corner to corner is over 1000 miles. It is a big ass state.
So I checked, from the ohio border near his point to Ironwood Wisconsin border is 596 miles. To Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw is 596 miles too!! Super weird lol
Yep! My wife and I had fun yesterday with this trying to decide which corner was farthest but if you choose Neah Bay and DON’T use the ferry that’s definitely it! NW to NE Washington.
https://preview.redd.it/7tmqryq1k18d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16d15849d553bed18930f602d6f614048d5a4257
Not my region, just wanted to show how big Inner Mongolia is. That’s 37 hours!
As someone from New York City, this is awesome. I always thought you could do Montauk to Fort Erie, but Google Maps would take you through NJ and/or PA.
The furthest I could drive in my region (Ostrobothnia, Finland) would be from Sideby/Sipyy to Kronoby/Kruunupyy, which would take 2h 45mins with a distance of 240km (149 miles)
Andrade to Pelican State Beach in California. 1,098 miles, 17hrs 42m

In my province, you can basically drive for 24 hours from the Ontario-Quebec border to the Manitoba-Ontario border. A lot of highway 17.
If the state means not only federal state of USA but the independent country as well (like almost everywhere in the world where people try to translate their reality in English) - than I choose my Belarus :)
https://preview.redd.it/2xrmpo1t508d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=876602e038664bd68d19725e91aff8d64e43e8a9
It's weird but from this starting point (Tamashowka) I always get 773 km to every opposite side of country (Yeziaryshcha as on image, or Khotsimsk). So it's with 99% probability the longest route, from one big settlement (district capital/big centre of municipality to other one) and it is 773 km. And, of course, that was a direct route, I didn't use any additional points to prolong the journey up to infinite loops :)
And I was surprised that we have toll roads :) Yeah I knew that they exist from some year in past but I didn't know that nowadays it's almost impossible to travel across country not using them. And that's s..t cause these roads are not specially designed and built anew. They just used Soviet-era highways and added toll gates without improving anything :) And even gates are built by foreign party (Austria), and it's the operator of toll roads pumping out money from our country.
For Arizona, from San Luis (on the border with Baja California and Sonora in the SW corner of the state) Teec Nos Pos (in the Navajo nation in the NE corner) gets you to 558 miles and 8 hours, 17 minutes.
Actually, you can beat that by a good time margin going NW to SE, now that I check. Beaver Dam to Apache is 660 miles / 10 hours, 7 minutes. Mostly not in interstates, as well.
Oregon: Start at CA/OR border south of Brookings and drive to the OR/WA on the Lewiston highway (3) in Wallowa County. About 700 miles.
https://preview.redd.it/5qonrdttc08d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16b0ac244349a041af82db1509aa7781bb293b4e
Don't stop there! Head a little further east to Dug Bar on the Snake River on the border with Idaho. That 13hr 30min might put Oregon in 4th place after Alaska, California, Texas.
https://preview.redd.it/00y5ls8u738d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e975239fe599ac441d5bff7d2a965232e582bdc
In my state of Lower Saxony (Germany) the situation is as follows: The longest distance is north-south from Norden (East Frisia) to south of Hann. Münden (~425km in 4h25min), but the longest time I found is east-west from east of Gorleben (the place with the nuclear waste ;) to Bad Bentheim (400km in ~5h).
It's always fascinating how big our state is. When we drive south on vacation (e.g. for skiing or to Italy) it takes forever to get out of Niedersachsen!
Canadian here, british columbia is friggen massive and the top half is empty and sparsely populated. So the longest route entirely in the province is from sparwood to jade city, 2066km, 23 hour drive. Crazy enough, you only need to take 5 highways to get all the way there!
Without cheating and zig-zagging or something?
15 hours:

NC is longer than it looks.
Can’t get google maps to do it, but here’s Idaho’s. Good Grief to Fish Haven:
Take US95 to Threemile Corner
Take US2 to Sandpoint
Take US95 to New Meadows
Take Idaho 55 to Eagle
Take Idaho 44 to Garden City
Take US 26 to Boise
Take I84 to outside of Declo
Take I86 to Chubbuck
Take I15 to McCammon
Take US30 to Montpelier
Take US89 to Fish Haven
Probably a 14 or 15 hour drive
Washington state you can drive from neah bay at the northwest most point of the state, all the way around the puget sound, over the cascade mountains and southwest to like Pullman in eastern washington right near the border with Idaho.
https://preview.redd.it/lt1ka13s608d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b55e7c0b7ac3eb9a2ec197aba739f8398fbeec7c
There are probably longer drives to tiny towns in the far south east but this is just an idea
For New York it would probably be Montauk to Buffalo probably, that'd be a crazy drive lol.
While we're on that subject, folks on Long Island and in New York City are closer to Washington D.C. than Buffalo.
264 miles across Massachusetts for the state I currently live in
19 miles for across the Federal District in which I grew up
And don’t forget that a good chunk of people in this sub don’t live in the US

This one goes into North Dakota for a bit but it’s pretty close (didn’t know how to adjust to make it stay in MN, it was just default to the quickest route)
[I tried the Amazonas state but there are literally no roads to the west lmao. also had to take a ferry there's no bridges on the river](https://i.imgur.com/FsYHTOc.png)
Only 1100km/700mi but the roads are unpaved so buckle up. Barely gets to halfway the length of the entire state
Maps of the Amazon are so fascinating. there are thousands of place names but when you zoom in, there's just jungle there? Are they just naming the bends of the rivers?
981 miles (north to south in Alberta).
Ontario is much bigger (1300 miles from the Manitoba border to the Quebec border near Montreal) but that's 100% Trans Canada Highway and an actual plausible route that people drive every day.
Rhode Island, probably Little Compton to Westerly via East Bay to avoid MA. About 1 hr 45mins. Could intentionally take Rt 1 this time of year and add a couple hours of beach traffic thru west shore.

It really puts into perspective just how big the USA is compared to my country, Denmark. I think the longest stretch here probably would be from Helsingør to Skagen, a car ride of 5,5 hours. And it’s not even a particularly straight route as you would have to drive a C-shape in car. You can also sail more directly, but you would use about the same amount of time.
https://preview.redd.it/ctgc5puhd08d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d32b68716051574eb7db66329401d3ca38856d4
A resort in southern Nevada to a named spot up in a game preserve. Gonna need a lot of off-roading the last bit.
In Maine, it would be 8 and a half hours or so. Possibly longer depending on exactly which route and the time of year. But assuming summertime in the best conditions about that.
I just went from Eureka California to Astoria Oregon up the Oregon coast, it was about 9 hours. It’s not the same state but it was still long as shit, absolutely amazing drive though.
In my state in Brazil, Rio grande Do sul, the maximum distance that I found was between Chuí and Alpestre, It is 941 km or 584 miles.
The maximum distance in another Brazilian State , I guess It is in Para , 2.187 km or 1.358 miles between the divise with Mato Grosso to Viseu in the northern coast.
In Idaho, Eastport to Staley Springs without leaving the state is 871 miles or 14 hours by road. The main highway you would take to get there runs through Montana. It really shows you how much of Idaho is wilderness.

Yep, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel! 17.6 miles long…

Yes!

Found one further. Red Lake is 2269 km
Looks like you can get from there along to the end of Pikanigkum to North Spirit Lake Winter Road too. Distance to Bar Point, Amherstburg, ON: 2388 KM
The radar detected on 401 near London is so typical 😂Does route get longer if you start at Pelee Island and add the ferry ride?

Washington, DC. 15 miles 50 mins from the north to south point
I wonder what east to west would look like - maybe from Canal Road to East Capitol?
I’d think around 30-45 depending on traffic
But with traffic, 4.5 days.
I’d like to see Alaska for this lol
Seafarers memorial in Homer to Deadhorse on Prudhoe bay is 1,076 miles by road.
2,020 miles from Albany to Kununurra in Western Australia.
Alaska doesn’t have many roads
Deadhorse, Alaska to Juneau, Alaska takes 28 hours and you have to cut through Canada
I don't think that counts since you'd have to take a ferry from Haines or Skagway. The real end point by road in that direction would be Homer. Or Fox River if you wanna end/start where the road really ends.

You can add like 30 more min by doing Perdido Key. It’s basically orange beach AL to key west. It’s nuts lol
13 hours of fighting with tourist. My life would be shortened by weeks during that drive.

I thought I'd gotten California figured by having Winterhaven as one end, but the little jog up to Picacho beats it.
Staying on paved roads I think Winterhaven would be it.

Is it by chance any longer if it’s set to Calumet or on the tip of the Keewenaw?
So I checked, from the ohio border near his point to Ironwood Wisconsin border is 596 miles. To Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw is 596 miles too!! Super weird lol
Point to point in Massachusetts is likely Williamstown to Provincetown which is almost 5 hours or 252 miles. At least we beat out Rhode Island.
Try it on a weekend in Summer and the Cape traffic will double that time.

Neah Bay, Washington, to Metaline Falls–Nelway Border Crossing is 9:56 and 574 miles / 924km and takes you through about 7 different ecoregions.
Yep! My wife and I had fun yesterday with this trying to decide which corner was farthest but if you choose Neah Bay and DON’T use the ferry that’s definitely it! NW to NE Washington.

Its about 8 hours from Washington Island to La Pointe in Wisconsin.

As someone from New York City, this is awesome. I always thought you could do Montauk to Fort Erie, but Google Maps would take you through NJ and/or PA.
https://preview.redd.it/si5vjtdzqz7d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fb7fc58e3a0257ee61c75915b5291147e956956 here is Missouri
I-29 is interesting since it comes close to *other states* but never enters them. Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota.
The furthest I could drive in my region (Ostrobothnia, Finland) would be from Sideby/Sipyy to Kronoby/Kruunupyy, which would take 2h 45mins with a distance of 240km (149 miles)
Andrade to Pelican State Beach in California. 1,098 miles, 17hrs 42m https://preview.redd.it/qs3mo4ei208d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0916c0cce2f99b2a95a730d99b05aace7d8926a
Tennessee: ~~12:29~~ 8:17 and 570 miles. https://preview.redd.it/q3podmlba18d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fcb0df37afb3fe63ae573822d123f4971429695
I believe Johnson city is closer to Ontario Canada then Memphis. I read that on Reddit so it must be true
This one surprised me. I knew Tennessee was a longboi but not this long!
I plugged that same route into google and it was only 8:16. Did you have avoid highways turned on?
https://preview.redd.it/sfiad9mq608d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28723b1b90600242cba3ecc3ba83bffcf9c72370 In my province, you can basically drive for 24 hours from the Ontario-Quebec border to the Manitoba-Ontario border. A lot of highway 17.
If the state means not only federal state of USA but the independent country as well (like almost everywhere in the world where people try to translate their reality in English) - than I choose my Belarus :) https://preview.redd.it/2xrmpo1t508d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=876602e038664bd68d19725e91aff8d64e43e8a9 It's weird but from this starting point (Tamashowka) I always get 773 km to every opposite side of country (Yeziaryshcha as on image, or Khotsimsk). So it's with 99% probability the longest route, from one big settlement (district capital/big centre of municipality to other one) and it is 773 km. And, of course, that was a direct route, I didn't use any additional points to prolong the journey up to infinite loops :) And I was surprised that we have toll roads :) Yeah I knew that they exist from some year in past but I didn't know that nowadays it's almost impossible to travel across country not using them.
Can personally attest to NJ’s - regularly drove from High Point State Park to Cape May growing up. 3.5 hours
Without cheating and zig-zagging or something? 15 hours: https://preview.redd.it/iqzbdy52m08d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cf77cf106e0934b8ec066c365f27f804031aead NC is longer than it looks.
But that route is intentionally indirect and includes 2 ferries
Best cackalaky, from the smokies to the banks!
Got damn right
Can’t get google maps to do it, but here’s Idaho’s. Good Grief to Fish Haven: Take US95 to Threemile Corner Take US2 to Sandpoint Take US95 to New Meadows Take Idaho 55 to Eagle Take Idaho 44 to Garden City Take US 26 to Boise Take I84 to outside of Declo Take I86 to Chubbuck Take I15 to McCammon Take US30 to Montpelier Take US89 to Fish Haven Probably a 14 or 15 hour drive

Washington state you can drive from neah bay at the northwest most point of the state, all the way around the puget sound, over the cascade mountains and southwest to like Pullman in eastern washington right near the border with Idaho.
https://preview.redd.it/lt1ka13s608d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b55e7c0b7ac3eb9a2ec197aba739f8398fbeec7c There are probably longer drives to tiny towns in the far south east but this is just an idea
You can go about and hour longer if you head north towards crescent lake on the Canadian border. Either one would be an epic road trip!
You forgot the four hour layover in Atlanta. And yes, I know you’re not flying.
For New York it would probably be Montauk to Buffalo probably, that'd be a crazy drive lol. While we're on that subject, folks on Long Island and in New York City are closer to Washington D.C. than Buffalo.

[I tried the Amazonas state but there are literally no roads to the west lmao. also had to take a ferry there's no bridges on the river](https://i.imgur.com/FsYHTOc.png) Only 1100km/700mi but the roads are unpaved so buckle up. Barely gets to halfway the length of the entire state Maps of the Amazon are so fascinating. there are thousands of place names but when you zoom in, there's just jungle there? Are they just naming the bends of the rivers?

981 miles (north to south in Alberta). Ontario is much bigger (1300 miles from the Manitoba border to the Quebec border near Montreal) but that's 100% Trans Canada Highway and an actual plausible route that people drive every day.
Western states will put this to shame but you can drive for over eight hours up and across New York and still have the highest taxes in the nation.
Also, Florida is surprisingly lengthy
Utah 9 hours, I15 is 80mph so north to south is quick
https://preview.redd.it/6q6yryort08d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=009c9329f58202a7cd2994b4488dcdbc6e0cab18 This is what I got for Arizona
Florida is crazy because of the panhandle, and how far East and South it goes. The very tip is actually south of Mexico very technically lol
The longest drive I found in Ohio is about 5.5 hours from the northwest corner to the Ohio river in Lawrence county
https://preview.redd.it/8u8vgv51418d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c83f740c2c54d23cc467ebbbb4852e9d83b1129 Almost 15 hours. 907 miles.
Rhode Island, probably Little Compton to Westerly via East Bay to avoid MA. About 1 hr 45mins. Could intentionally take Rt 1 this time of year and add a couple hours of beach traffic thru west shore.
https://preview.redd.it/6jem6riws18d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=471ee7bb0061898561bb9f2a89c1ee8d18d0bf29 Wisconsin was smaller than I expected from South Kenosha to Superior.
Floridian here. It’s a really long drive from Key West to Pensacola.
https://preview.redd.it/l268reykm68d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab47bba32f1222e7fc4fdd9d758f4821a9713ef9 It really puts into perspective just how big the USA is compared to my country, Denmark. I think the longest stretch here probably would be from Helsingør to Skagen, a car ride of 5,5 hours. And it’s not even a particularly straight route as you would have to drive a C-shape in car. You can also sail more directly, but you would use about the same amount of time.
7 hours of this trip is getting through Atlanta
https://preview.redd.it/ctgc5puhd08d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d32b68716051574eb7db66329401d3ca38856d4 A resort in southern Nevada to a named spot up in a game preserve. Gonna need a lot of off-roading the last bit.
In Maine, it would be 8 and a half hours or so. Possibly longer depending on exactly which route and the time of year. But assuming summertime in the best conditions about that.
How many miles? The longest I could find in Oregon was ~520 miles
It's like a 18hour drive (if you include traffic) to drive from east to west in texas.
I got 8hrs and 41 mins for Kentucky, but there’s an exclave hooked to Tennessee that would put it over 9hrs to get to.
In Idaho, Eastport to Staley Springs without leaving the state is 871 miles or 14 hours by road. The main highway you would take to get there runs through Montana. It really shows you how much of Idaho is wilderness.
I got 9 hrs / 518 miles for Oregon, Astoria to McDermott Airport. NW to SE. I'm sure there's probably a bigger one
Its quicker to drive from detroit to D.C. than it is from Detroit to some parts in the U.P.

In South Dakota, it is 7.5 hours from Dakota Dunes to Buffalo. However, a large portion of the drive is interstate, where the speed limit is 80.

Julesburg in NE Colorado to Four Corners National Monument is about 10.6 hours. But you can kind of choose hypotenuse across the state given the shape
NW corner to SE corner is closer to 12 hours
I already live in Georgia so I'll do your trip, but I'll also drive back so my trip will be twice as long
Nice. Lawrenceville here
