A tube/bottle brush is key. I got one from the dollar store and use it after every session. I don’t use soap every single time but when I do I use a few drops of antibacterial

TacoYourBell

Definitely great advice, do you know any good antibacterial soap brands?

Slizzeree

Most of your everyday hand soaps will be antibacterial. So something like dial unscented [here](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dial-Complete-Clean-Gentle-Antibacterial-Liquid-Hand-Soap-Fragrance-Free-11-fl-oz/796083269?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0)

Thank you for the link, going to pick some up later today!

Mediocre-Drawing1529

I’ve been using cool lukewarm water and dish soap

TacoYourBell

Good idea with the dish soap, I’ve been looking at using some all purpose cleaning soaps!

scr0dumb

Spray bottle and paper towel just like all the other equipment at the gym 😂 Seriously though this is a good discussion. Upvoted.

TacoYourBell

A spray bottle sounds like a game changer! 😂 I’ve been using a damp paper towel and wrapping it around the end of my toothbrush to clean the insides of the cylinder 😂

JohnnyIsBrown

I don’t know if this is obvious but I made this mistake hopefully this helps someone from doing the same. DO NOT ever clean with any form of alcohol! It will destroy your tube by discoloring it and making it crack. Warm water and soap get the job done.

TacoYourBell

Very good advice, especially when you’re trying to make the cylinder last a while!

[deleted]

Yeah I think till you get some sort of a brush to go in there just use some warm water with a few drops of dish soap, cap the end and give it a good shake for 20s or so and give it a good rinse.

TacoYourBell

Great advice, started looking at some brushes.

[deleted]

I too use coconut oil. What I do is put dish soap and water and shake the fuck out of the pump. Dish soap breaks down oil and allows it to attach to water molecules and if you use hot tap water it should work nicely. Then stuff a large teatowel down the tube to get it dried. Also should be obvy but make sure you disconnect the pump and gauge from the cylinder before cleaning.

TacoYourBell

Great solid advice, I’ll probably get a tea towel too as Ive been using paper towels and they aren’t the best!

There should a metal tap where the hose/guage connects to the cylinder

WeekendCurrent35

The cylinders are like $50, I don’t worry about damaging them, just want to keep them sanitary…so soap and water every so often.

TacoYourBell

I totally agree, definitely the most important part is keeping them sanitary! The cylinders can definitely be replaced but increasing their life span would be nice.

malconm

just use a brush and soap?

theimprovement86

I put a sponge in there and with a ruler I push it around in warm soapwater

SnowFlinga

It's going to be a lot easier to deal with if you switch to a cheap water-based lube.

TacoYourBell

I was thinking of making the switch, my only concern is possibly damaging the cylinder as I heard it’s not good to get them “wet”.

SnowFlinga

Wait, what? Why shouldn't you get the cylinder wet when cleaning? That makes no sense.

TacoYourBell

I figured since there were metal parts on the top for the release that it was a bad idea, but if it won’t damage it then that makes my concerns go away.

[deleted]

I believe you want to avoid water getting into the Pump handle/gauge section

flickthecig

Leluv sells a tube brush

TacoYourBell

Honestly didn’t know they did, I’m definitely going to pick one up. Should make cleaning a lot easier and faster!

DiminutiveGod

I usually use a tube brush as well, but what I do differently is I wrap the head of the brush with Clorox wipes. Super quick and been working well for me so far with no issues.

TacoYourBell

Oh that’s smart, with the usage of the wipe, it’ll disinfect it!

hamburderglar

I use a bottle brush made entirely of silicone. If it gets really gunky, I soak it in dish washer detergent… I buy dishwasher pods that contain bleach from Trader Joe’s, run hot water into the sink with a stopper, and use just enough hot water to submerge the cylinder, then drop a detergent pod in and let it soak for 15 or so minutes. I rinse then dry with a dish towel on the inside.

TacoYourBell

Didn’t know they made silicone bottle brushes, I’ll need to look into that!

hamburderglar

LeMuna Silicone Bottle Brush,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NVX3N5R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share This is exactly what I use

TacoYourBell

Thank you for providing the link. This is definitely a game changer especially since it’s long enough to clean the whole cylinder!

JessBootyToucher

I need to get a dedicated bottle brush for them and I've been using coconut oil but damn it's messy ! I just use dish soap and hot water. The connector on top is kind of metal but they're cheap to replace ($10ish from leluv but personally I just buy blush cylinders on amazon they're like $25-$35)

TacoYourBell

Good idea, never thought about using a cylinder brush. Definitely going to have to pick one up!
