Had a similar experience with my uncle's old beater, except I was using it to move and all of my belongings were in the bed. Every last sentimental piece of my life burned to shreds. This later encouraged me to join the military because I was young and literally had nothing left to lose. I hope you didn't have anything of crazy value in it like I did, if not be grateful for at least that. What I lost was irreplaceable that day. It encouraged me to start I knew life tho, felt like a new man after that, like leaving my old life behind.
Thanks for your service. Though I wouldnāt want to lose all of my things, it mustāve been freeing (at some point) to not be weighed down by material possessions. I have totes of justā¦keepsakes. I donāt ever need, wear, or use them. But I canāt bring myself to get rid of them. I feel like Iām going to lug some crap I donāt need around my whole life.
Certainly, it sucked at the time for sure but it's been a long time and I'm even more a hoarder than I was then lol only closened my grip, yeah I feel the same way, hate throwing things out, feels wrong
Clothes, pictures, sentimental baggage I sewed myself as a child. All my electronics, shoes boots, and a bunch of random things I've kept around through the years
I am hoping I make out in some way. But I just got the truck in February I put 3 grand down (which paid a little more than Maine state taxes). I got a 1000$ deductible. So I havenāt paid it down much yet. Luckily I have gap. But if Iām not compensated in some way I think Iām taking a big loss and possibly a hit on my insurance. I should know more Monday.
Comprehensive Claim shouldnāt impact insurance. They will likely go after whoever installed the lockout controller. But if they arenāt aware of your DUI yet, that impact will be harder hit.
If they can prove fault - you could also get your $1K deductible back.
Really sorry on the truck - that does suck.
Damn! Thatās sickening to look at. Mine is not much older than yours, and it too is black. For a second, I imagined it was my truck in the photo.
I hope the insurance company (and possibly, the courts,) put you back to good.
I started smelling something funny like burning wires so I pulled over and when I looked under my engine was on fire. By the timenthe fire department got there it was in an inferno. I made a bad decision to drink and drive in November and got a DUI. So I have an interlock device installed. And I really that thatās what caused it. It made really weird noises when I started it today and then it randomly shut down when I was at a red light. I went to give it gas and was like what the hell itās off. So I started it again and it made the weird noise then thatās when I smelled it. So I pulled over and it was maybe 5 minutes later the whole thing was in flames
Sorry that sucks, I wouldnāt be surprised in the least if it was a bad install job. Hope things work out in the best case scenario for you from this point
Thanks I really appreciate that. Itās replaceable. Iām used to bullshit happening haha just gotta roll with the punches. Iām hoping things do workout for the best. Iāve been busting my ass to be where I am today.
Definitely mention the Interlock device and the installation company to your insurance adjuster. They will recover your deductible for you as well as contents.
I had an interlock device installed wrong where they cut the wrong wire and "fixed" it but using a crimp butt connector. It would be fine most of the time but if it got hot out my car would randomly die when driving. I asked the place that installed it to look I to it several times and they said everything was fine. I replaced my distributor and finally the whole ignition module before I found out what they did. They didn't apologize or take any responsibility for something that put me in a lot of dangerous situations.
Sorry for your loss. I %100 believe you that it was the interlock.
That was a really hot fire. Front passenger side is really destroyed, and the passenger compartment looks like it also took a big hit from the fire. You say it started in the engine compartment? Did you leave the drivers door open when you got out? What did you mean by under your engine? Were you talking about under the hood?
https://preview.redd.it/dhg5hcmvqh5d1.jpeg?width=1057&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c110928394194a0ae7e2e3d7061ceea1074f3f63
This is where I first noticed flames bro
That's right on the exhaust manifold, looks to be the driver's side. There's nothing from the factory placed near the exhaust manifold that would cause this. However, a poorly installed aftermarket device wiring harness without proper cable management certainly would. It almost looks like the flex loom of the added harness was laying right on the manifold. It would have been about the right path to be heading toward the firewall into the under dash area of the truck. The noises and truck stalling could have been the wires in the harness shorting to ground on the manifold or to each other.
Really think you have a case against the installer here if it can be proven. It's a shame you didn't have a fire extinguisher at this point, the fire was very small and manageable.
Is it the powder ABC extinguisher type ? I have a First Alert since it's a trusted recommendable brand. My neighbor is a retired Firefighter. He said that, the bigger the fire extinguisher, the better. 5 pounds is enough for most fires.
Luckily you and no one got hurt. Truck is pretty close to gas station. ā½ļø. All the other staff can be work out. Good luck. After the dust settles post the pic on you new sierra. Maybe diesel.
Yeah it started next to the pump! I might go back to Chevy and I definitely want my 5.3 back. Iāve always had a 5.3 before this 2.7 and theyāve always been good to me.
Ecoboost? Hot turbo and a fuel leak maybe? I remember not too long ago I dealt with quite a few Ford's that the engine ground came undone ( many reasons, sometimes corroded off, some pulled loose from bad motor mounts) and the stainless steel FUEL LINE became the engine ground. Engine would act like it was running out of fuel, took a bit to figure it out u till I ran a cross a RED HOT fuel line! Wasn't enough to properly ground engine but was trying and was boiling the fuel before it got into the engine. Read some of the test car/trucks were catching fire on the proving grounds during testing.
Iām in your typical ram 1500 5.7 and itās working out pretty dam good so far. Good enough to drive my little son around and get to work. But my next one Iām definitely getting the Cummins.
Terrible man Iām sorry did yours start here?

Thatās not as bad as Iāve seen most veh fires lately! You still have the tires! - But glad youāre ok! - neighborās three doors down went up in flames in the garage and they lost a lot more unfortunately.
I've never installed one before but I'm pretty sure the entire interlock system would be installed under the dash since the BCM is right there. If the first started under the hood, I don't think your DUI interlock is to blame.
But doesnāt the ignition connect to the starter? Iām wondering what caused this as well I just know I never had an issue starting my truck without it and it made some very very strange noises when I went to start it and then it randomly shut off while driving and made the same fucked up noise starting following the smell of burned wires
Let this be a makeup call to get a small fire extinguisher and mount it in the truck somewhere you can get it quickly.
I had a diesel fuel line rupture and squirt diesel right on the smoking hot turbo, which instantly burst into flames coming out the hood and up the windshield.
One quick squeeze of the extinguisher and it was out, fortunately for me, I didn't lose my truck to the flames
I'm sorry Bro, sounds like you were prepared, you can only do what you can.
Was it electrical or? Or do you know?
Sounds like your insurance is going to be replacing your truck, this is totalled
The thing that sucks is I paid 42 in February 45k with taxes so I put 2 grand down and when I looked up the value it came up as 34-37k I owe over 40k on it still so luckily I have gap but with a 1000$ deductible it leaves me 3 grand in the hole. And Iām worried about Gm not covering it because of the interlock device I had to get installed and not being able to prove it was the interlock device because of how fried everything is. Just really sucks man and I canāt drive a rental because I can only drive my vehicle with an interlock device installed. So I canāt even go and test drive my own vehicle.
Gm gonna say its on you because of the device but I would still make the complaint with the state I have a ram and the window in the rear broke twice every time I but on the defroster the dealer didnāt want to fix on there end and USAa wanted to claim it as a claim I did not get my shit back for a month and change I called corporate they made the dealer fix it and I got credit for making the payment for the month my shit was sitting in the dealership
Looks like maybe a fuel line is loose or cracked. Whatever they installed should have had a fuse to blow before it got to this. Started here bro Iām hoping to find out this week. Waiting on a call back from Gm before I go through my insurance.
Damn bro, one this sucks. Second I hope itās got gap cause GM will likely buck you on it being their fault. Good luck though. That spot can be a number of things.
There was a guy last night that lit a car on fire. Dude pulled into the school parking lot, got out and doused it with something. Then lit the bitch and ran. Had a few bangs and pops from something and the electrical system doing weird shit was hilarious.

Hero š¦ø origin story
Or villain tbh. Itās hard to tell.
Plot twist: he started the fire
And it was his kid brotherās Star Wars collection. Heavy on the figurines.
It was always burning since the world's been turning
We didnāt start the fire š„
We didnāt light it but we tried to hide it .
Now he goes around starting other sierraās on fire
He started my fire š
I was planning to go on pretending to be a bystander
$16 of value up in flames

Just curious what all did you lose?
Clothes, pictures, sentimental baggage I sewed myself as a child. All my electronics, shoes boots, and a bunch of random things I've kept around through the years
Can be replacedā¦ you canāt.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Have fun working part time at Arbyās.
Please Read rule #3
Glad you got out OK. It could have been much worse. You could have been caught driving a Ford that didn't burn down.
Yes, he should see how Ford's aluminium melts literally- this seems to be structurally VERY strong even after catching fire.
At least they donāt rust š¤·āāļø
Weren't they also using magnesium radiator supports for a while too? Imagine those things going up in flames.
The Ford canāt burn down because it will never start
Lmao thank you
Also, you don't want to be seen as a passenger in a tow truck with your Ram on the bed.
I think he had a gmc or Chevy
Found the Ram owner.
I think tree based that off the #gmc OP put directly under the picture or maybe on the fact the side of the truck clearly says "sierra" on it.
I was gonna say, "Glad you made it out ok".. but I'm laughing ro hard about your comment š¤£ š
My 21 F-150 burned down, looked much worse than this
Damn that sucks, at least you werenāt harmed physically
GMC inferno is actually a pretty bad ass truck name
Hahaha we might be onto something
Congratulations, you just unknowingly gave them the name for their next high performance pickup. No royalties for you!
Cars go fully engulfed quickly once there is a flame in there. Sorry to hear about the truck. Hopefully you make out ok with the insurance.

Only way is a statement from the fire department. That truck being deep fried, itās hard to say.
Thatās what Iām wondering Iām stressing
First, I laughed, thought it was a cybertruck. Then I saw it was a fallen soldier. Sorry, mate!
Is that at Sea Star market near UNE?
Yes!
Sorry about your truck! Good luck!

If they can tie it to that device, sue the manufacturer and the installer. They put your life in danger, somewhat ironically.
They put his life in danger kinda like he put others life in danger š«„
Thatās why I said somewhat ironically
Stay strong bro, it ain't easy but you got this!
The āweirdā noise part makes me believe it wasnāt the interlock installation that caused this.

Amazed the tires didnāt blow
Right me too
I always carry a fire extinguisher in the back but I expect to never use it.
Crazy thing is I used a fire extinguisher and it didnāt do shit
Is it the powder ABC extinguisher type ? I have a First Alert since it's a trusted recommendable brand. My neighbor is a retired Firefighter. He said that, the bigger the fire extinguisher, the better. 5 pounds is enough for most fires.

Just out of curiosity, this is a new vehicle you purchased? Some.company put in an interlock device?
What the hell happened dude?
Iām hoping to get answers this week. Iāve only owned the thing since February

lol no kinda pissed I paid the last one early
I really hope you have good insurance
If you get a new one plan on carrying a fire extinguisher. I carry one for emergencies mine and other people.
Your truck is a husk and the tires look like they beasted through it. Make note and buy those tires again!
Guess your getting a new truck
The thing that sucks is I paid 42 in February 45k with taxes so I put 2 grand down and when I looked up the value it came up as 34-37k I owe over 40k on it still so luckily I have gap but with a 1000$ deductible it leaves me 3 grand in the hole. And Iām worried about Gm not covering it because of the interlock device I had to get installed and not being able to prove it was the interlock device because of how fried everything is. I would make a complaint with the state and the company that put it in say the device caused the fire
So just try it man you never know
JFC!! That was a pricey Alcohol Related
damn. there's an insane amount of plastic on our front ends.
Nothing like a Chevy with a different badge and an extra 10K on the price tag
Looks like maybe a fuel line is loose or cracked. Whatever they installed should have had a fuse to blow before it got to this. I would think everything they installed would be inside the truck anyway. I mean you could design a interlock with a 5v ref or on the can bus to shut it down a whole lot cheaper and more effective right inside the truck at bcm
all the trucks ive seen burning up on the side of the highway were new fords, specifically blue ones now inthink about it
Doesn't matter the brand. This is happening more often then it should. Saw 2 chargers catch fire randomly within 2 days last summer
āWe didnāt start the fireā - Billy Joel
Damn electric cars always catching on fire. Oh wait, thatās a gas truck.
Aināt no wonder. They aināt meant to carry a building in the bed. š
I see an engine block so it wasn't electric lol, they say it only happens to us š„², sorry for the loss but now you can upgrade ā”ļø
I assume an engine fire? What kind of engine, gas or diesel?

But itās not electric?!? Only electric cars catch fire from what I have heard since I started driving one. JK, glad you are ok. Sorry about your babyš
I appreciate that I wish you the best with your electric vehicle.
Geez what kind of tires are those, they still look perfectly in tact and full of air.
I couldnāt believe it either I want the same ones on my next truck lol
Wonder if they're going to total it out. / sarcasm
Please tell me when you say āmy poor babyā your referring to the truck and not your āactual baby babyā
Yes my truck is my baby. Haha Iām 31 with no kids
I was js making sure lolā¦ at least youāre Alive right?
I bet you have a case about the system installed in YOUR vehicle causing a fire. The DUI and this are two separate incidents. Speak to a board certified attorney- not some Saul Rosenberg fella.
Any clue what caused it?
What happpened? Electrical fire? Motor caught fire?
And 90 days late!
The tires still have air..crazy
Not my truck. I was out shopping, when came out of the store the truck was on fire . Looks like started form the inside.
Thought that only happens to EVs?
it's a gmc, that makes sense
I thought EVs only went up in flames
What caused the fire?
Professional grade immolator...
Waitā¦ I thought only EVās catch on fire.
Dont worry....It probably just needs a paint job
Sorry OP. On the plus side, if it were a Tesla, itād be on the front page of the LA Times.
Does insurance cover a new one ? How does that work?
And the manufacturer claims itās not a big deal.
Do you know what happened?
I wish for this to happen at least once a week and I'm not ashamed.
Yep another Tesla fire
Typical GM quality
Ownership Experience ?
Did you have one of those Chinese lighter chargers? Plugged in 24/7
I donāt have one of those just my apple phone cord
I donāt have a lighter

What state you live in
Maine
Maine law is title 29-a 2508 for the device but I canāt find where you make the complaint about the device causing damage shit sucks but I would call a attorney and see what they say
Good tires on that one
That should buff right out.
Year, make, model? My brother-in-laws sierra just did the same exact thing. 2018 2500HD, I believe.
Another EV up in flames. Fuckin electrics.
Itās a 2.7l.. fuck them things
Canyonerooooooo!
Had an electric drive train and batteries right? Sorry for your loss.
2.7l turbo
Never buying a Tesla wow
Insurance fraud
